@nnaelilak Oh my gosh, what a day! I'm glad that everything turned out okay.
@galentine I'm sorry to hear about the cyst, but I agree that the NIPT testing should give you peace of mind. Your little one is perfect!
I had a very weird dream last night that I met a hybrid of @galentine and @lillywonderland IRL and we were trying to make it to the movies to see Sleeping Beauty. Not quite sure what that means, but I was so happy to "meet" you!

I’m looking to buy a gift for our friends’ daughter who is turning one. She has a sister who is just over a year older than her so I really hate to buy any toys or clothes! Any thoughts, moms of multiple girls? Thinking around $20-25...
ETA - I just realized you asked for advice from moms of multiple girls, sorry!
@melanier26, my go-to birthday gift for 1 year olds is a nice piggy bank. If I know the bedroom/nursery theme, I usually try to get one that ties in with that. For example, my niece's nursery them is owls, so I got her a porcelain owl bank. Then depending on how close I am to the child, I either put $1 in the bank, or a bigger check for college savings.

I know you said you prefer no toys, but my go to is legos, or due to their ages, duplos. There’s no such thing as too many legos, and they can store them with their current stash.
Im exhausted. Drove 3 hours south to do an inspection, got lost, had my gps try to drive me into the river, and it kept trying to bring me over the state border which is a huge no no for my state. Blah, but I got it all done in one day instead of two, so I get to return home in the morning since there was no way I was making it back tonight

Oh how I wish that were true with DD. She had no interest in Duplos, and what did people buy her? I had gotten 5 sets in one year. I saved them and gave them away.
We recently bought her, her own lego kit after DH took her to a lego event at target. She really seemed to enjoy it hence the kit. She barely plays with it now. Her interests change so much. Thankfully one thing she's always interested in is play dough, drawing, and dress up.
As far as I gift alot of our friends stick with registries even for birthdays. It's very helpful for when we need ideas. If I'm flying solo I do my best to pick something out and will always put that gift receipt in the card lol.
@malanier26 Puzzles and baby dolls were huge for my daughter when she turned 1. The Melissa and Doug chunky puzzles are great for that age, and it promotes learning more than just a "toy" so that's a plus. I also think if this little girl likes babies, having her own special baby doll would be great too-- and if DD is any indication, there can never be too many babies.
I have a baby shower this weekend and I feel like I'm paralyzed with wanting to give her the perfect gift, lol. I want to give her things that will really be useful, but also fun things, so instead of picking out a gift, thus far I have nothing. Looks like I'll need to go shopping since I'm running out of time to Prime and I have too many choices online anyway.
Ugh, we are keeping my in-law’s dog this week. It’s a long story, and I’m already not happy with them for many reasons, but I’m so annoyed with the dog. I feel bad bc I love dogs and she’s really old, but she smells so bad. And has pooped in our house 3 times (including this morning, 5 minutes after coming in from outside) and peed once that I know of. Since Sunday evening. My patience is already at an all-time low (I blame hormones) and this is turning me into a not-very-nice-person-to-be-around 😬
@melanier26 No. Just no. I hope your DH has the carpet stain remover in hand!
@SLou24 Does the mama-to-be have registry? I like to give the changing table pad, cover and/or diaper genie. It's not glamorous, but it's sooooo necessary and most people prefer to buy the cute baby things off a registry. Also, does she know if she's having a boy or girl? "Little Boy" and "Someday" by Alison McGhee are sweet books for a shower gift if the mom knows the sex of the baby.
@junebabyh He’s cleaned up all of the accidents but one. I’m sure I’m probably projecting some of my frustration with my ILs onto the poor dog lol but the fact that she’s not at their house right now is part of the bull$#!+ I’m mad about with them
I'm on cloud nine right now. I just went into Once Upon a Child for the first time and I think I scored some major wins, the biggest of which being a Halo sleep sack in awesome shape for $3.50 (the style that typically sells for about $22). I got four pieces of clothes for $11.50 total! I'm so glad I don't know the sex of my baby right now, because I definitely would have gone too wild in there.
For those planning to go into one, just know that not everything is in great shape, but most things appeared to be. The most worn items were the strollers and bouncers (obviously), but they still looked completely useable and even able to be cleaned up further.
Oh, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted by the $125 UppaBaby stroller they had there. 🙊😄
@obsessedwithoranges I cannot remember the brand name. It is from Buy Buy Baby and it is a soft, terry cloth fabric with a grey chevron pattern. I'd recommend getting two as they often have to go in the wash for obvious reasons. In fact, I started putting a burp cloth down under the baby when I did changes so that when poo leaked out of the diaper I could just toss that in the laundry instead of the whole changing pad cover. I also have one from target for my downstairs changing area (we set one up in our guest room so we didn't always have to run upstairs) that has a plastic, wipeable middle area. It certainly is easy to clean/wipe, but every time I lay DS2 down without a shirt on he cringes from the cold plastic on his back. For a newborn I think an all fabric one is better with a cloth under their booty just in case.

I have 3 Halo sleep sacks in perfect condition, two from the hospital gift bags from both kiddos and one I got in a bundle of clothes I bought second hand. I never used any of them. Personally wasn't for me. But glad you found a good deal, they're expensive 😂 I love our once upon a child but it's an hour away 😔
@SLou24 for first time moms I like to do a restaurant survival kit. All the things I found really helpful when eating out with a baby in tow: scoop bibs, oxotot fork and spoon set, indestructible books, pipsquigz toy set (these are great for anchoring restaurant plates to the table), the munchkin miracle cup, snack container, etc.
I’m sorry I’ve been MIA this week. We did finally get to do our anatomy scan. She’s still a girl and she has all her necessary organs and limbs. It feels insensitive to post in the anatomy scan thread right now so I’ll just leave that here.
Yucky news below in spoiler.
FIL, on the other hand, had a swollen lymph node at Christmas that I couldn’t move in his neck. I told him he needed to go to the doctor and he did but he held off on testing till May “to wait for my Medicare to kick in”. We offered to pay for the CT but he wouldn’t let us. It came back as probable soft tissue sarcoma this week and is in his lymph nodes which is an automatic stage IV. He has an appt Friday to discuss treatment options. However 5 year survival is very low. DH is taking it so practically right now, making plans for his disabled mom, figuring out caretaking for his dad, getting their house in order, etc. I know he will break down soon though because his dad is the most important person in his life.. If things start to go quickly we will have to temporarily close our house to foster care. Neither of us have had a loss of a parent so I’m unsure how to best help him and I’m so sad for him while still trying to plan for the arrival of a baby.
@quidditchcapn1120 I'm so sorry to hear about your news. As someone who has lost a mom to cancer, all I can say is that nothing can prepare you. Just be ready to listen if he wants to talk, and don't provide him any advice simply to fill gaps in conversation (in other words, if you don't know what to say, it's better to admit that to him than to try and come up with something; giving random advice comes across as insensitive and uncaring).
He may handle this well, and that's okay. He may struggle, and that's okay. Just continue to live life the way you normally would, and if/when he needs you, do your best to be available to him.
@quidditchcapn1120 I am so sorry 💚 I lost my dad when he was young. Not cancer, but it was slow and so hard... I echo @meagan-t's advice and I'll be sending lots of love and hugs your and DH's family's way 💚💚
@quidditchcapn1120 I’m so sorry your family is facing this. I lost my dad to cancer and it was the hardest, most painful experience I have ever been through. Best advice I can give is just to be with him and support him and his family however you are able. One thing I learned is everyone copes and grieves differently and it’s all normal, albeit awful. Sometimes it was helpful to be reminded of that.
For STM+ Am I the only person in the entire world the prefers buttons sleepers!? I keep seeing article after article says go zipper. I always found it so much easier to just unbutton the bottom half. The zipper ones I hated the fight to get the leg back in the un-zippered side. I also felt that is restricted size and they out grow them so much quicker. Maybe I should have saved this for UO.

I just got DS a whole new wardrobe (growth spurt) for about $30. I really only look at the clothes and never the equipment.
