  • EDD/Weeks + Days: 12/6 14+3

    FTM/STM/TTM+: FTM

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Blue

Upcoming Appointments: 16 week appt. on the 18th

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): Pretty good, though I felt really off/gross a couple of nights ago followed by a super intense nosebleed. Craving-wise, it's still all about the fruit.

Rants/Raves: Gotta rave about the song Marigolds by Kishi Bashi. Check it out if you can (^: Pregnancy-related, I'm jazzed I've stopped gaining weight at the pace I did in the first trimester. It feels so good to finally not feel like I'm starving all the time.

    Questions: None (^:

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? We didn't have many traditions, but I did always like how my parents and the other grown-ups would play Shanghai Rummy together after Christmas dessert while the kiddos did their own thing. It was extra fun when I was old enough to play, too.

  • EDD/Weeks + Days:  12/8 14w1d

    FTM/STM/TTM+: STM

Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Finding out in July

Upcoming Appointments:  This week wednesday, OB intake appointment with a different practice. I used this practice before for a pregnancy that ended up a miscarriage, but seems each new pregnancy gets an intake appointment, before scheduling with a midwife or doctor.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms):  Feeling good. Much less nausea and feeling less tired. I still a appreciate a nap in the afternoon though. My appetite is back and I want to eat everything! Enjoying spicy foods before the heartburn starts up.

Rants/Raves: It was surprisingly very easy to switch practices, and the practice I am switching from didn't even ask why I was switching. They are such a big practice and my whole experience with them was very impersonal, so I guess I'm not surprised.

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? Can't say we really have any family traditions. Thinking we need to start some.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): Still spotting 😒 I don’t see an end in sight at this point. Other than that I feel pretty great.

Rants/Raves: I was pruning my rose bushes this weekend and got stung by a wasp for the first time ever. It got me twice, on the wrist and butt, holy crap it hurt so bad!

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? Putting up the Christmas tree after Thanksgiving  dinner while we watch Christmas movies.

@k_mama91 Ack!  A wasp?!?  Those things are scary!  I'm sorry!!  We get them building nests around our area all the time.

@Megz1902 I hope things go well with your new practice!  I know that if we switched, nobody would even notice either.  At the moment, unfortunately, this is my best coverage option money-wise, so I guess we're sticking with the big guys.

Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Pink!  Oddly not my favorite color as a child, but it seems to suit me well now 😉

Upcoming Appointments:  16 weeks appointment on 6/19

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): I’ve been feeling pretty good!  Some days I have a pretty rockin’ headache.  I’m usually really thirsty, and I’ve been restlessly sleeping, but that could be heat related, too.

Cravings:  I’ve been loving fruit, too!  Frozen, fresh, it’s all good!  I’m with @veganelise on that one!  Peanut butter has also been a favorite.  Unhealthy choices- 7-11 cola slurpees, especially on these hot days!

Rants/Raves: I got a brand new FREE stroller from a sales rep that works with my parents bike shop!  Some bonuses of working a sucky job...

Questions:  I haven’t really started slathering my belly with body butter yet- has anybody else gotten that into it yet?  I'm still not poking out that much yet, except after big meals or something.

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition?  One of my favorite traditions is on Christmas- my husband took this from my MIL, he writes a letter from Santa in pretty script that talks about everybody's year, like "Bailey was a great girl this year- congratulations on becoming such a good reader!"  It's both cute and sometimes hilarious, particularly when my MIL writes it (which she still does)- you can tell it has some of her personal opinions rolled into it.   Anyway, it's cute, and my husband loves delivering an element of Santa magic still on Christmas.

  • @cpk3535 I didn't use any special body butters or lotions last time. Probably won't this time. I am not a big lotion user normally, so I just don't think to do it. If my belly starts getting itchy from stretching skin, I probably will try to moisturize occasionally.

  • @cpk3535 I started using a combo Palmers coco butter lotion and Burt’s bees mama bee cream on my belly. I have super dry skin and already showing quite a bit. Last time around I used coconut oil and palmers. I’m debating adding in the coconut oil and this time as it stains clothing.

Also, my dad wrote letters for us too from Santa! I seriously didn’t put it together until maybe 5 years ago that it was his handwriting!!
  • EDD/Weeks + Days: 12/3; 14w4d...but will need to have a scheduled c section, likely around 11/15, due to a previous uterine surgery

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: pink

Upcoming Appointments:  16 wk OB appt on 6/26

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms):  So hungry and thirsty!  And lots of soreness/stretching feelings in my lower abdomen (what I assume is round ligament pain)

Rants/Raves:  Lots of anxiety hitting me lately (day care, finances, job security, having enough support once the baby arrives).  My worries have a tendency to snowball so I have to make a conscious effort to catch myself and do some affirmations/meditation.

Questions:  Pregnancy pillows:  worth it or waste of money?

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition?  On my side of the family, we dont exchange Christmas gifts as adults and we buy for the kiddos only.  We find that it cuts down on the stress of holiday shopping and we really dont miss the material items.  I know it's probably easier said than done, but I hope not to get too carried away with an excess of Christmas presents for my little one, either.  I dont want that to be the focus of the holiday for her.

  • @blueskychicago12 I’ve been debating the pregnancy pillow thing, too!  I’ve been thinking of just getting and using a yoga bolster instead.  I’ve heard people say that the huge pillows are particularly annoying, because you have to completely resituate every time you get up to go potty in the night.  Since I get up an average of 10 times a night, I’m thinking I may not be a good candidate for that! Haha
  • @blueskychicago12 and @cpk3535 I recently broke down and got a less expensive pregnancy pillow and I like it so far. Mine isn't super bulky, though. It's one of those C- shaped tube ones.

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: finding out

Upcoming Appointments: tomorrow! But it's just a routine check up. Looking forward to the doppler, though.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): nausea is a lot better but still flares up when I miss my meds.

Rants/Raves: I'm helping sew costumes for a community theater production soon and Jo-Ann has patterns on sale this week! Hooray!

Questions: Anyone else noticing colostrum residue? I stopped nursing DS a few weeks ago and now I think everything is switching over. I noticed it super early last time too but it was still later than this.

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? I dunno. I'm super tired this morning and can't really think of my favorite. Last year Christmas started with DS projectile vomiting so I hope that doesn't repeat...

@cpk3535 ive been using palmers already. With DS I only got stretch marks on my breasts and I’m superficial and really don’t want any on my belly, the ones I do have make me so self conscious.

@nothingbuttherain every Christmas without fail DS is either in the midst or coming off of a stomach virus. Every. Single. Year.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): pretty good. My nausea had been gone since 10 weeks, but I threw up for the first time this pregnancy on Saturday. Hopefully it was just a fluke.

Rants/Raves: finally in the second trimester! 🥳

Questions: best pregnancy books? Or just happy summer reads to stay positive while pregnant ☺️

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? Everything with Christmas! Usually we fly out to see my in-laws for Christmas, but obviously we can’t this year. So the in-laws are flying out to us. I can’t wait for my baby to have her first Christmas!

Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: We'll schedule that appointment at our next one :)

Upcoming Appointments:   I had one today, I waited 25 minutes past my appointment time to see the doctor for all of 5 minutes :P  I got to hear the heartbeat and didn't have any questions or concerns.   The next appointment will be at 18 weeks.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms):  Still nauseous but at least my energy is coming back :)   I only napped on Saturday not Sunday

    Rants/Raves: none

    Questions: None

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition?    We have been starting our own little family traditions, my favorite is decorating for Christmas.   We put on Christmas movies, have hot chocolate and decorate our tree together.    We also have traditions for which mass we attend for holidays and different things we do for each of them.

Upcoming Appointments: 2 weeks- regular check up

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): still very tired. Not as many aversions to vegetables so that’s good. Not sure if my bump is starting to show or I’ve just been eating too many carbs haha

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? Champagne and chocolates for Christmas morning!

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Pink!

Upcoming Appointments: 6/18 for our 16w appointment

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): So much better!! I sort of feel like myself again. I started working out again doing pilates and yoga which feels great. I still get tired out easily and am taking lots of naps but I can feel my energy coming back which is encouraging! i am also SO hungry the last few days. I also feel my libido returning!

Rants/Raves: I’m so curious when my bump will truly show! I can def see it growing week to week but I can still cover by how I dress. I feel like I just look bloated in the midsection which is not attractive! I finally had to buy maternity jeans because my jeans won’t button anymore!

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? On Thanksgiving when we go around the table and say what we are thankful for.

  • Had my intake appointment with the nurse today at the practice I switched to. They have a high VBAC success rate, which is why I switched to them. Overall was just a medical/pregnancy history appointment and it went well. Even got to hear heartbeat on doppler.

However, the moment the nurse started talking about how they may not let me go past 40 weeks and then will start talking induction and/or scheduling a c-section, I lost it and started crying. I am mostly blaming hormones but also the fact I really do not want another c-section, unless it is absolutely medically necessary. I am 2.5 years out from my c-section from my daughter, and apparently am still struggling with it. I have an appointment with their perinatal mood disorder specialist to talk through my anxiety of another c-section and possibly be referred to a therapist closer to my home (the practice/hospital is about 45+ min drive).

Anyone here had a VBAC or also planning a VBAC?

  • Hi ladies, I have a question regarding amniocentesis:  If we had negative test results on the NIPTs testing and everything looks good, do we have to (or sometimes have to) take an amniocentesis also?  I just wonder, because I’m an older mom (38).  I’d really rather not if I don’t have to, but do the two tests check anything different?  Is there reason to take both?
  • @cpk3535 I'm 37 and my understanding is that invasive testing, like the amnio, is only recommended if screening tests suggest something might be wrong.  You can definitely elect to do it in any case if you want to, but I would be very surprised if they required it.  I dont plan to do it myself, in spite of my geriatric age 😉, and my doctor hasn't recommended it for me.
  • @blueskychicago12 Great!  I know, we’re so old, right?  Haha 😂 I’m relieved to know that I shouldn’t have to do both- I was just reading that amniocentesis does have a slightly higher accuracy level, but that looks to be about it.  Awesome, we should be set then!
  • @cpk3535 from what I have read/understand NIPT is not actually a test - it's a screen, so it's not confirming a diagnosis, it's just stating the risk level of a possible diagnosis. Amnio is an actual test and confirms a diagnosis. That being said I think if you're low risk on the NIPT your dr wouldn't want to push an amnio.
  • @anniemarie887 that’s what I was curious about, if it was really a true test or what.  Good to know, thanks!
  • @k_mama91 wasp stings really hurt and the sting lasts quite a while! Hope you’re feeling better now.

@cpk3535 I have been doing the cocoa butter too. I used Mustella last time but it’s so expensive. I didn’t get stretch marks but hoping that’s more because of my genes than the lotion. It did smell really good though.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): overall pretty good! And I agree with @veganelise - I want all the fruit! It was like that when I was pregnant with my daughter too!

Rants/Raves: We are going to Michigan for a Father’s Day weekend getaway and it’s going to rain. 😢 We’ll still have fun, but it’ll be a bummer!

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? All of them with Christmas- decorating the tree, baking, and Christmas movies. I am so excited to have a baby during my favorite time of year!

@sunshineandlemons it seems like it’s rained everyday for a month where I am. It’s depressing.
  • Out here in CA, somebody just flipped the switch from epic rainy winter to insanely hot summer.  No nice transition weather this year!  Plus, over the winter, I’m pretty sure the weather service made up the term “Atmospheric River” to sell t-shirts or something, because I’ve sure never heard that used before.  Was that thrown around where you guys live?  I think El Niño was just losing steam 😆
  • @veganelise @sunshineandlemons yes i can’t get enough fruit!! started with berries early on and now i’m craving all sorts... pineapple, peaches.. pears!

@cpk3535 i’m in CA too! which area are you in? I’m in LA. I really hate the recent heatwave! Pretty worried it’s going to be an uncomfortable (PREGNANT) summer, lol
  • @moonriver_and_me we’re up in the Bay Area- we lived in Los Angeles area prior to baby 1, and now we’re aspiring to get back down there in the next year to two years.  The Bay Area is fine, but not really our place or type of people...

I’m a fruit addict, too, I’m so happy that nectarines and peaches are coming back into season!  I also love watermelon.  If it’s good, I can practically polish off one by myself, even non-pregnant, haha!
