@emeraldcity1214 that's what I've heard, I just have no idea where. It's definitely not out in the plant where I work, unless I just hang out in the bathroom.

  • @angieeeeee Never ever reduce yourself to nursing in a bathroom! EVER! I have heard of managers having to give up their office space during pumping breaks. That may be an option. I would start looking into this now. Maybe contact your HR and see what they say. They may need time to figure out how to arrange this for you. You are entitled to it though.

All our offices have windows into the plant, and our main office is closed at night... guess I could give everyone a show 😂😂

They can put a curtain up or something. That’s what happened at my last job- all the offices had windows and there wasn’t anywhere else closed to pump, so HR put up a curtain you could close while pumping.
  • Some states provide more rights than others, but federal law says that they’re 100% required to provide a private room for pumping and the room has to be solely dedicated and have a lock on the door.  The only “downside” is that they can make you clock out if you’re hourly, but they are required to provide you with additional breaks beyond the typical paid and unpaid breaks you already get, as well as coverage for your position if your job requires it.  It can’t just be a corner somewhere, and never pump in the bathroom, I did it in the San Fran airport before and I promised myself then that I’ll never do it again 🙅🏼‍♀️🙅🏼‍♀️.  If you get the Spectra portable pump (the blue one), it’s battery operated, super quiet, and so easy to tote around.  I would pump on the way to and from work to get in some extra time too to make it a bit easier on yourself.
  • I just want to echo, again, about pumping or nursing in the bathroom. Do not ever let anyone make you feel you need to hide while you feed your baby. You have the right to feed your baby wherever and whenever. No one can stop you. You don't even need to use a cover. If someone has an issue, they can move. Or better yet, tell them they can go eat in the bathroom stall. See how they feel about that.

I have learned to nurse in my ergo and it is so convenient because I never have to stop and sit down. I can keep chasing my kids and doing whatever it is I'm in the middle of. It has helped so much since my 3 year old is a bit of a wild thing and would never sit for me to actually sit and nurse.
  • The ACA is the legislation that guarantees your rights to a pump and a space to pump at work.  Talk to human resources about how your employer complies with federal law.  They can get in a lot of trouble if they don't, as the fire department in AZ recently found out.

Pumping was my least favorite part of breastfeeding.   I stopped pumping right at 1-year but extended breastfeeding.  You won't know if it's for you or not until you get there.  Breastfeeding worked for my family, it saved money and I found it easier.  However, due to my son's size we had to supplement at first and we supplemented throughout the year.  Some people continue to breastfeed morning and night and supplement rather than pump.  There are lots of options.
