Hi ladies!
Dessert... that's something I like to think about

It's hard to pick just one. I'd say a decadent chocolate cake is probably my favourite, but gelato or apple crumble would be close seconds lol
AF came yesterday, which was pretty hard to take on mother's day, so I think I'll be turning to dessert for comfort tonight

@sara_tory AF has the worst timing sometimes!

QOTW: What’s your favorite type of dessert?
My absolute favorite is tiramisu. But ice cream is also at the top of my list. And cake (but it needs to be the right kind of cake).

AFM, I had my SHG (or saline sono I guess) this morning. Nothing looked wrong except that the RE said my lining is irregularly shaped. It's supposed to be smooth. She wasn't concerned about it right now, but I made need surgery for them to go in and "clean" it so my lining is smooth. She's having me do another SHG at a future date (probably sometime during the FET cycle I think). She said if a transfer were today she wouldn't do it. Mostly because they like everything to look perfect.

*Sigh* I did ask if lining like that can make implantion difficult and she said they don't know. There have been a number of things for us that are like "that might be why but we don't know". So no real definitive answers on our infertility. Who knows... That put a bummer on my day but I think I'll be fine once I see DH again today 🙂

@inthewoods23 Are they talking about laparoscopic surgery? I had one done back in November, it's pretty quick to bounce back from. Sorry to hear you didn't get much in the way of answers though...

AFM: Husband surprised me with this necklace: https://soulcystercreations.com/products/i-am-a-warrior-hand-stamped-necklace yesterday and made me waffles for breakfast. It was nice to be spoiled.

Technically supposed to wait until next Wednesday to test, but may test this Saturday morning (shot should be out of my system by then; we're going to goto a music festival that day that will have beer.) Taking precautions, but still wanting to live my life, especially if this round ends up not working anyway.

QOTW: Pumpkin pie. I could probably eat that any time of the year.

@inthewoods23 - I’m sorry to hear about your SHG today and how you didn’t get any confirmation or the greatest news! It would have been nice to get some more definitive answers, like even what type of surgery it would be. I find that sometimes clinics think we know all the answers already or don’t need to clarify things for us. For me at least I need to confirm things at least twice to have the info stick in my head. Are you still proceeding with the next steps with IVF or now waiting to get more answers from your RE regarding your lining? Hope the rest of your week is better! (Sending you an electronic form of tiramisu!)

@sara_tory - so sorry to hear about AF showing up! And on Mother’s Day as well! UGH!! Hope you do take the time to enjoy some sweets or anything else that will make you feel even a little better (I know nothing can take away all of the pain). Are you heading straight into another round of IUI?

@chiblackhawkie - props to your husband for spoiling you yesterday! Love the necklace! Also major FX for testing this Saturday!!

@blackrose-9 - I think you had/have an appointment today with your doctor about this cycle and how the Femara is going? (If I’m remembering correctly?) If so, hope it went/goes well!

@cigaline - how’s the Clomid going for you so far? Any side effects?

AFM: US went well on Friday. Have three follicles that are looking good and thinking that most likely I’ll be getting a positive OPK tomorrow or the next day, so thinking I’ll have the actual IUI on Wed/Thurs. Both excited and nervous, but mainly excited.

The one thing that really annoyed me on Friday though was before the US even began. The clinic does US and BW at 7:30am before the clinic technically opens at 8:30. The building itself where my clinic is doesn’t open until 7:00 (my clinic is on one of the top floors of this big office building). It’s “first come, first serve” basis so I arrived at 6:30am to be one of the first people seen. There was one other woman waiting outside the locked doors before me. A third and then a fourth woman arrived a little while after us. The four of us stood around quite a while before a bunch more people arrived. We were standing around waiting for the door to be unlocked, when the fourth woman decided to go up and test the door. And it was open! Even though the first woman and I had tested it earlier on, but whatever. The thing that pissed me off was that the fourth and third women pushed their way through the door even though they very clearly saw that myself and the first woman were there first. I tried to get in as soon as I could and ended up riding the elevator with the first woman who was quite upset about getting there first and now being in the middle of the line. The clinic ended up being very efficient with getting everyone seen and I was able to get to work before my start time, but it really bothered me. It’s bad enough that all of us women who were standing outside are in this shitty boat called infertility, to then just clearly shove your way through the line so to speak not caring about the other women who were before really ticked me off. Anyways, end of rant...phew.

QOTW: Classic New York cheesecake is one of my faves, but I will literally eat any dessert.

My clinic doesn't do fresh transfers so I don't have to worry about the lining right now. She's going to have me do another SHG at the beginning of the FET cycle (I estimate sometime late June/early July)

@sincethelastday 3 follies is a good number for your IUI. FX for you. And that is so rude that those ladies pushed their way in front of you. I can't stand behavior like that and I'm sorry that you had to deal with that.

@sincethelastday ohmygod, I would have blown a fuse. like excuse me?? I remember one morning when I was at early morning monitoring, I arrived around 6am (they open 5:30am) but the phlebotomists were late so everyone was silently seething in the waiting room. Terrible vibe.

@littleredm Have you schedule an egg retrieval or FET yet? I'm thinking of cycling in June to prepare for an egg retrieval.

@inthewoods23 I wonder if she's doing a hysteroscopy? When are you starting your IVF medications for egg retrieval?

@nancinator I haven't scheduled it yet. I just moved to a new RE so I could take advantage of their shared risk program financially and I'm trying to get all my medical records transferred over from the old RE so they have everything they need. After that the new RE said she wants to do an SHG and then I'll get to schedule for IVF. My hope is for an ER in June but realistically it'll probably be in July.

Well I took a pregnancy test this weekend and it was a BFN. When I went to see my obgyn she asked me if I had started and I said no. So she told me to wait a week and test again. If it was still negative then she'd give me something to start my period so we can just start the next cycle. She wants to up the Femara and see me on CD 12 to see if it's working. So now I'm waiting to test again.. I'm on CD 29 so we will see

@chiblackhawkie your hubby is awesome! That necklace is beautiful, what a nice way to make the day into a positive. My hubby couldn’t even figure out why I was feeling blue.

AFM: I’m on CD 32 which I wasn’t supposed to get to on clomid, but the Ovulation test wasn’t positive until CD 24 so I’m holding out some hope still.... I told myself I will not test until 2 weeks post the positive ovulation test (CD38) so waiting! These long cycles are super frustrating though.

QOTW: Dessert! I love them all, but especially chocolate. Snickers or dark chocolate especially but any chocolate candy — I love it! Weirdly I don’t really like chocolate cake or ice cream.

inthewoods23 we had a lot of maybe this, maybe that also and it's so frustrating to hear! You do really want to have an answer even though you don't obviously want something to be wrong! Hope that your next steps go well- Fx for you for starting meds and upcoming ER!

sincethelastday I had a slightly similar thing happen at my appointment yesterday, the bloodwork clinic was really backed up and when my name got called this one lady jumped up and threw what can only be called a temper tantrum and demanded she was next. Luckily they took both of us but I was dumbfounded! We are all there for the same shitty reason we don't need to be nasty to others!

nancinator hang in there on your TWW! That terrible vibe you were talking about was exactly what I felt in the waiting room yesterday too. Ugh!!

2dogsmom almost there to test, just a bit longer. That's got to be really really tough. FX it was so worth it!!

PS using the quotes was a real easy way on the phone app to grab everyone's post and reply. Just hit quote and then I deleted the body and added my own reply!

AFM: FSH injections over the weekend went well - easy really. I did notice some mild bloating and tenderness, more like I was really aware something was going on down there especially in the afternoons and a little extra fatigue, but not bad. Nothing mood wise which was what I most feared. I had Day 9 US and BW yesterday and already have 3 decent size follicles so they had me do another FSH and HSG trigger last night for IUI Wednesday morning... tomorrow. Eek! I was so shocked as I thought for sure not until next week!!

I have a crazy work week this week and I know I'm going to be worrying about being too stressed. Stressing over being stressed is so stupid! Hard to not do! So I've got a couple days pegged for acupuncture after work to combat and hopefully this is it this cycle! FX and toes crossed for "magic cycle 22" as I call it.

QOTW: creme brulee!! Though ice cream in a waffle cone has been in my cravings lately. Just need a warm summer like day to indulge!

@sincethelastday and @hithertorue good to hear you both have got 3 follicles ready to go! Excited to hear how the rest of this new adventure goes... Btw I loved your plant pot story - I had been wondering how you managed to get the test and pot into the bathroom undercover, but that is genius!!

AFM, had my first injection this evening, which wasn't too bad. I must admit I was very glad I'd got a nurse to come round (a home visit! the luxury) after all - DH reminded me, as I'd forgotten, than the gynaecologist actually advised against asking a nurse to do it on the pretext that they generally don't know how! (Non-specialist self-employed nurses unconnected with the clinic.) I thought I'd want someone for moral support and when I saw the needle I did chicken out of doing it myself. We agreed that on Thursday the nurse will just observe me do it so I can manage myself in the future. I suppose I'll get to the point where it's second nature, but for now I'm just glad I don't have to think about it for 2 days!
Finished Clomid today too, glad that's over as I found it left a bit of an aftertaste and probably caused a bit of bloating, though nothing too bad.. ultrasound and blood tests on Friday - after your tales of crowds arriving from 6.30am my 7.30am appointment doesn't sound too bad! I'll keep my eye out for any pushy women (queuing is not a strong point here, but perhaps my British perspective is skewed ;-)

PS That's the second time this week I've heard the word 'props' meaning kudos, I'd never heard it before! Is it short for something?

Re injections: I bet once you do one yourself you will be a trooper with the injections. Just have to get the first one under your belt. I was shaking like a leaf for the first one I did solo last week. And then by last night doing my trigger it was no big thing. Still not the greatest thing to do and gross to be sure. But manageable. You can do it!!

I think Props is like Proper respect. Definitely the same as kudos. I'm Canadian and I would use either interchangeably!

And the flowerpot I think was @sincethelastday lol to hide bringing a cup and test to the washroom under guise of watering her plant each day so she could do her opk.

Yes I knew the plant pot was @sincethelastday - it was only the first part of that paragraph that was for both of you!

And as you’re now completely in sync, I can ask you both how the IUI went yesterday? @sincethelastday was it yesterday in the end or today? Hope it all went smoothly and wasn’t too stressful.

Just reread your chronology and realised that if my body works to a similar timeframe, the IUI will be Sunday (not sure if that’s possible) or Monday... quite a bit earlier than expected.... DH was banking on it being Thursday as he’s v busy at work at the moment and it’ll have calmed down by then. Hope his state of total exhaustion doesn’t affect the sperm quality 😬

@cigaline Haha sorry thought you thought I was the flowerpot genius!

I'm not sure about most clinics but I know mine likes to try to trigger on a Monday or Tuesday so they can do IUI's on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Probably just a scheduling thing for them. Monday I had 1 of 3 that was 2.0 diameter, so I don't think they wait til all get that size or just timing worked to do then and not wait... I'm not sure!

IUI yesterday was easy enough. Just some mild cramping with the catheter, like when you have a pap done. I had had a catheter twice during my investigative cycle so I knew what to expect. The lying down for 10-15 minutes was the most annoying part bc my bladder was crazy full and the lights were bright. It was an awkward wait. Haha

I had quite the backache and cramping on my right side yesterday afternoon (3 follicles were on the right). Never got bad enough to take anything for it but noticeable and a bit uncomfortable sitting at my desk yesterday. Quiet night last night, DH and I had a snuggle on the couch and some time together.

Confirmed Ovulation of 3 follicles this morning. 2 were mature size for sure probably not the 3rd. I start Progesterone and have BW booked for the 30th.

Now the wait.... cue dramatic: duh, duh, duh...

@blackrose-9 - glad your doctor is upping your dosage! Sounds like this is a good move to make and hope the increased dosage works better next time if you need a next time. Any news on the AF front? Really hope you don’t get it! The waiting just sucks!

@2dogsmom - ugh, I feel you on the crazy long cycles!! Since I started Letrozole, my cycles have been much more regular (before they could get as long as 45 days). My RE has said that they would up my dosage if I went longer than 35 days in a cycle. Do you think your RE will do the same? I’m really hoping this cycle will be the one for you though - not much longer until testing!

@chiblackhawkie - good luck if you still decide to test on Saturday! Major FX!!

@hithertorue - sorry you also had a crappy experience with crazy people at your appointment, but glad to hear your IUI went well overall and that you didn’t have too bad side effects (good to know what I may expect). Hope the TWW flies by! Also, creme brulee *drool*.

@cigaline - glad to hear the injections are going well and that you have the option of home service! Very nice! As someone who isn’t in the “injection boat”, I can’t imagine enjoying the experience, but hope it gets easier with time. Good luck with your US and BW tomorrow - hope you get some nice follies! (And hope you won’t need any combat gear for any pushy women lol)

AFM: got a positive OPK today so I have my IUI scheduled for tomorrow. This is the latest I’ve gotten a positive OPK before on Letrozole (CD 17), so I was kinda freaking out over the last couple of days that somehow I missed the surge even though I’m using two different OPKs for testing. So just relieved now and actually really excited for tomorrow! We were told by our RE that we have about a 15% chance each IUI of getting pregnant, so I’m trying to be level headed with my excitement, but I can’t help it.

Well the nurse has just left and guess what - when I did the injection myself I felt practically nothing! (She did tell me to pinch the belly this time though - which fortunately was easier than it should be for me too haha..) I can't say it hurt a lot on Tuesday, but there was a definite sting when it went in and a sharpish pain for a few seconds afterwards. Anyway, this time it was a total non-event :-)

@hithertorue glad to hear all went smoothly for you, I can sympathise with the wait with a bladder full - not nice!
I'm puzzled about the 3 follicles though - I thought only one (or two max, one on each side) could actually ovulate...? Good luck with the waiting game - I know it's going to be especially tough this time.

@sincethelastday ah I was confused for a bit as I thought IUI always involved injections, but when I read back I see you'd said the clinic had decided that wasn't necessary. I've reread the material they gave us about the procedure and it does say ultrasounds are done on a first come first served basis - eek! We'll see how that goes.

For the rest of the treatment, there's cetrotide - this apparently delays ovulation presumably if they think the follicles are not ready - before the trigger shot and then progesterone. Should find out tomorrow what the schedule is.

@sincethelastday I so get you with trying to manage the excitement, I'm completely the same! Keep telling myself the stats are not brilliant, but when you go through all this treatment you can't help hoping. My clinic claims their success rates are higher than average (20%), but that's still not that high. Will have to find some good distractions for the 2WW!

@2dogsmom My cycles have been 40 days for the 12 months before letrozole and the waiting drove me crazy. I hope your RE can figure out a med regimen to lower the number of days for you.

I think hope is the only way to get through this crazy process and probably helps stress levels, which is also helpful. Keep hoping!
I was shocked at how painless my trigger shot was too! Good for you to try the first one by yourself with the nurse there. Those needles look crazy. My husband hates needles and was trying unsuccessfully to not look like he was freaking out when I did mine. I made him stay in the room and read the instructions even though I think he wanted to be anywhere else. 🤣 He feels bad for being scared of needles and not being that helpful for me but it's so normal to be that way that I understand.

@inthewoods23 hope you get some more answers as to what treatments they would try to smooth the lining (D&C possibly?). More clarity would be helpful but I hope it resolves on it's own!

AFM I'm on my 3rd day of letrozole and the sweating is real for the first few hours after I take it. Just changing directly into my bathrobe straight after. Ugh! Not sexy lol
Day 12 US next week. So glad my RE took the day 3 BW and US off my required tests. I have chronic pain, including pelvic pain from endometriosis, and getting there so early after nighttime insomnia from pain is such a hassle.

@sara_tory that’s a funny image of you with YH getting squeamish about the injections! DH did not sound keen at all when I suggested that maybe he would do the injection (before I started them) which surprised me because generally he has a pretty ‘can do’ attitude! Sorry to hear about the chronic pain, that must be really hard to manage.

So, all went smoothly for bloodwork and US this morning. (Anyone not interested in queueing issues, skip the next 2 paragraphs!) At the hospital they generally recommend arriving 30 mins before the appointment so I turned up at 7.20 not realising that the admissions desks didn’t open until 8... Then I went up to the fertility centre which was also closed, before realising I needed to register to get my ID stickers so it was pointless waiting up there. However later on I thought I'd try it anyway to see what they said. There were already 2 girls in there. There’s a ticketing system (very civilised) so I took one and found I had the first ticket! Then one of them said the machine hadn’t worked for them which I found pretty funny in the context of @sincethelastday's experience! The other two weren’t there for the first time and already had their stickers, so we swapped tickets as I knew that by the time I’d been registered I’d have lost my place! However, there were two options, bloods and US or bloods only and the other girl had given me a bloods only ticket, so I ended up taking another as I was more worried about waiting ages for the US...

Anyway, all worked fine after all as I was no. 1 in the queue downstairs and back up there just before 8 and in time for my second ticket number! As it turned out they didn’t use the tickets at all for the US, the doctor just called ‘next’ and by luck the girl just after me looked at me and said I was first!! I take back everything I’ve said about the French not being good at queuing.

As for the follicles, the doctor looked and said "you've responded well to the treatment... too well really" and showed me 3 large follicles on the right hand side. Apparently they were all 18mm. Then she said "we'll have to look into it and if there's a risk of triplets, we'll have to stop the growth (she didn't specify how), and if you say you definitely don't want twins, we'll also have to stop it"! I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing, but said, "at this stage, I'll take anything!" (I think DH was amused when I messaged him to ask if he wanted triplets...) Frustratingly I can't remember exactly what she said about the stopping or cancelling business, and seeing as she was in a hurry I didn't get the chance to ask more.

Fast forward a few hours, and they've emailed me the next steps for the treatment: last FSH injection this evening (instead of tomorrow) plus the cetrotide (follicle-inhibiting thing as well, which seems pretty odd), and then go back tomorrow morning for another 8am blood test (whoopie!)

I'm confused. Everything I've read about IUI today says the aim is to ovulate 2, 3 or 4 follicles. If that's the aim, why is my having 3 large follicles a problem? I've read sites that say if there's a risk of multiples the cycle is cancelled or converted to IVF, but surely if the follicles actually ovulate then there's always a potential for multiples, even if it's very low? How do they evaluate the risk of multiple pregnancy? I must say that although my clinic seem very efficient and competent as regards administering these treatments, there's a definite lack of information and opportunity to ask anyone about what it all means :-(

For those of you who asked about my situation I want to thank you. Today is CD 33 and still no AF so I tested this morning like she said. *TW* there was a faint line like barely visible so I called her and told her. She had me come in for a blood test this morning and she called me about an hour ago saying that its early and my levels were at 9.38 but it is positive. I'm in complete shock. I've been trying since 2014 and this was my first cycle with femara. I did not expect this..but I'm so excited and shocked

@cigaline I think some doctor's just don't want to take that risk even though 3 seems like a perfectly good way to increase the chances of getting one of them.

@nancinator thanks! I hope they do too. The end of June would put me around 9 weeks or so ...and that's when they do new patient Appointments. I wish I could go in for another lab test to make sure my levels were rising before then though. Fingers crossed

@blackrose-9 Wow, so excited to hear your news! That's brilliant. Hoping those numbers start increasing rapidly. Sorry I didn't mention you in my initial post, I think I missed the week when you posted first and was a bit out of the loop.

I went back to the hospital this morning for bloods and this afternoon they sent me my instructions:
1) Today, Saturday: trigger injection this evening 2) another cetrotide injection, 3) Tomorrow Sun: do nothing (that made me smile

) 4) Monday morning: turn up for IUI! Eek! Wasn't expecting it so soon. This last week has been quite exciting after all, think the 2WW will seem especially slow now with nothing to do than wait!

@cigaline - Everything seems to be moving so fast for you! Sorry to hear your clinic isn't very informational... Is there any chance you could pull aside a nurse and get them to answer your question? (I know I've had to do that once or twice)

@sara_tory - Dang to all the sweating, haha! I can't say I've had that kind of side effect before. Hopefully your US next week brings some good news.

@blackrose-9 - That's amazing! Congrats and FX for a continued rise in numbers.

AFM: AF and cramping started up last night (CD 31), about the same time as last cycle. Disappointed, but also figured that was probably going to be what happened... And happy I jogged my 5K (instead of walking) and had a few drinks that morning. I think I would have been way more frustrated if I played it safe and AF showed up.

Starting to give up hope on IUI. DH and I talked, and while part of me wants to stop IUI and start IVF when we're in our new city, DH explained insurance and how it may be better to try just one more time before we move.

So onto the next (and most likely last) cycle of IUI. If this doesn't work, we'll start looking into IVF (and hopefully our next jobs have better insurance coverage.)

@chiblackhawkie I got AF early this morning too bahh. I agree! Better to live your life normally as infertility has already taken away so much enjoyment

I believe I am starting IVF meds on Day 3 of my next period so that would be around end of June... pretty excited but also expecting a bit of panic when I am confronted with the amount of shots.

@chiblackhawkie really sorry to hear about AF. Glad you enjoyed your run and the beer though :-) It sounds like you have a good plan for moving forward, waiting until after your move etc before changing treatment plan. Fingers crossed for the IVF coverage.

Went in for IUI this morning and all went smoothly (though they kept me waiting a good hour after the scheduled time and I spent an hour on the bed in the room itself, enough time to look at all the baby pics on the wall multiple times and count the twins (3 sets out about 30...) I asked the Dr about the 3 follicles and she said that the oestrogen levels indicated that it was more like 2.5 so no chance of triplets (phew). First beta is in 2 weeks’ time (I have to do 2 no matter what). Right then - better start thinking about something else now! :-)
