Re: WTF Wednesday 5/1

  • @mrosek91 I have sooo much trouble not saying "if only soooomeone had suggested that in the first place!" Haha

My WTF is ..wtf is with this never ending illness? I was feeling a bit better yesterday, but worse again today. And DH went to bed early last night feeling way worse again. He's been sick for over 5 weeks. Maybe it's time to head back to the doctor..

@lilmamabebe3 what a total dick!! I can’t believe he actually said that about the champagne. I’m dying to know, what was your response?
  • @lilmamabebe3 Ooooooh I'm salty about this guy. Please let him know that you have an army of August bumpers just rolling our eyes at him. I would NOT be okay with any of that... and especially with the current surging hormones, I'm impressed you've kept your cool so far.
  • mkrelmkrel member
@lilmamabebe3 Wow he sounds like a piece of work.  Where did this guy come from? Did you tell him it was a congratulatory gift on the pregnancy/baby?  I always think of good things to say in situations like that after the fact when it's too late.
  • My WTF Wednesday is also work related.
Since I work almost 2 hours away from the hospital where I will be giving birth (it is only 30 minutes from home) I thought it would be a smart idea to let my boss know I would be starting my maternity leave the day before my actual due date, just to be safe. People do it here all the time, it isn't the first time someone has picked there maternity leave start date instead of waiting until they go into labor. I was told that wasn't a very "convenient time" because we have a staff member on vacation. She also told my co worker, who was pregnant, if she went into labor during a certain week she best hold it in because it would ruin her vacation.

  • @emqbee I said something like I didn't ask for the gift, but thanks for the heads up that. In the moment I was so taken aback. It was so ridiculous. Like he had to put me in my place and let me know he was the boss or something. It was definitely more of a power move than anything else. Douche.

  • @lilmamabebe3 oh boy, that boss does not sound okay. My ED does not have any active listening skills and I hate that. It's so obvious that they're not actually listening. Hopefully as he gets more comfortable he won't feel the need to assert his power, but I doubt it.

@brianalee2984 That is ridiculous. What if you go in to labor the day before your due date, the person will still be on vacation. If they were so concerned they shouldn't have approved the vacation time, you can't not approve maternity leave.

@brianalee2984 - I’m guessing your boss has never given birth before...because I can’t imagine someone who has gone through child birth making an asinine comment about “holding it in!” Jeeze!

My WTF Wednesday...just had a guy here to perform our routine seasonal maintenance check on our A/C. They sent out a kid (seriously, he looked like he was 12) who, I kid you not, couldn’t figure out how to work our thermostat. He also made several comments that made it quite clear he had NO idea how our system works. He actually said there was “something with a fan” attached to the system in the basement, but he didn’t know what it was so he didn’t service it. So...yeah...I didn’t renew our contract.

  • @aecm That is some level of incompetence right there. I did lol at "something with a fan." Hopefully you didn't need any repairs. We had our AC serviced yesterday and need to replace a coil b/c it is leaking. DH told the techs, "we have to get it replaced; we have a baby coming in August." It was cute. B)

  • @brianalee2984 - WTAF.  I mean, I would tell someone who said something like that in my organization that it could be considered obstructing FMLA, and would they like to hear from the DOL??

  • +1 for being WTF to @brianalee2984 boss. In the vast majority of cases you have no control when you go into labor... and it has absolutely nothing to do with convenience....

  • @lilmamabebe3 Tell new boss dude when he pushes a kid out of his hoo-haa he too can have a cheap bottle of champagne... what an ass. Apparently he doesn’t value first impressions.

@brianalee2984 Pretty sure that’s breaking some labor/discrimination laws. I work in an incredibly small office (5 including our director) where one of my co-workers wife is due two days before me so our leave will have to overlap. You know what our boss said? Take the time you need and we will work it out because this is an important time for your family. I’ve also put them on notice that I’ll work as long as I can, but anytime after mid-July is fair game based on my last kid arriving early. Sorry boss-chick, these things can’t aleays be planned!

@Lotus_2008 No repairs, thankfully! Then again, I’m not sure this guy could have actually told me if there was a problem, lol.

My DH was all about the house maintenance before DD arrived too, it’s so sweet!

  • @lilmamabebe3 oh my gosh! What a tool! You totally should have been like "cool! Next time you get pregnant and grow a human inside you, maybe someone will get you a congratulatory gift".
    What a fucktard
  • My WTF is work related also.
Kiddo in my class has missed 35 days of school so far this year, which is 7 full weeks of school, not to mention almost the same amount of times they are late. It just irritates me because it is such a disservice to the child, who could be making so much more progress if they would be at school consistently. It's so aggrivating!

I borrowed my moms car to drive out of town today.  Hers gets much better fuel mileage over these hills.  I noticed the door wasn't closing smoothly but shrugged it off.  This car use to be mine but I sold it to her several years ago when we bought a new one. Anyway, when I gave it back to her, the door wouldn't close at all! The latch was stuck down and was just bouncing off the other piece it connects to.  I felt bad that I broke it so I gave her a ride to work in my big truck and took her on a couple errands before her shift.  Hopefully my husband can fix it!

Also I suggested a name to DH that I've suggested a couple times before.  Previously he wasn't keen on it but now says he loves it. I just can't even.
  • @lilmamabebe3, I hate peoplelike this. Why wouldn’t you want to start at a new job on a good foot? I like @chillycanadian’s response for next time.

I really don’t miss having a boss and hate working for people.

  • Our dog is 9y/o and has trouble controlling her bowel movements. This has gotten progressively worse over the last 6 months, to the point where it happens in the house almost every day. We took her to the vet, they told us she has some nerve damage in her back feet but otherwise thought it was behavioral. I disagree - she definitely doesn’t know it’s happening most of the time. We’ve tried feeding her less food more often, we got a bowl that slows down how quickly she eats, we take her outside at least twice as often as we used to. I just got doggy diapers to try. I’m running out of ideas, and it’s getting more and more difficult for me to clean up after her every day the bigger that I get. I feel bad for her but I’m also incredibly frustrated!
  • mkrelmkrel member
@agpandme your husband has zero recollection of discussing this name before? ha
  • @dogmomma096 I'm really sorry! Our 7 year old dog is also going a lot more in the house, but it's definitely behavioral. I understand how hard it is to constantly have to clean up and even harder if it's because your dog can't control it. Maybe get a second opinion?

We have a groupon to a restaurant that's about to expire but we can't ask my ILs to babysit so we can use it because they've already reluctantly agreed to watch DD from the 19-21 because I have to go away for work. They always seem to hesitant to agree to babysit that we have to save the asks for when we absolutely need it and can never just doing anything fun.

  • @hillaryo14 That is so sad. When the parents/guardians don't value education, there's no way the child will learn to value education. What grade are they in?
  • My late WTF is towards my coworker. Her baby is due any day and she said she hasn’t taken prenatal vitamins the whole pregnancy. She also talked about craving laundry detergent and I couldn’t help but say ummm probably cause your body is lacking nutrients. So cringy. I just feel like a vitamin is such a simple way to keep yours and baby’s health up and to not take one is so selfish!
  • emqbeeemqbee member
@newmamakt that is so crazy...I will confess, I've been less than consistent with my prenatal simply because I had to go through 4 to find one I could keep down...but I haven't had weird cravings, and I took what was recommended based on my bloodwork along with eating a lot of nutrient rich foods....I don't think I could admit to not taking one AND having detergent cravings. I guess common sense really isn't that common....
  • @EmilyA724 We normally bring her to the vet in June for her annual exam, so we will hopefully be seeing a different doctor in the practice that might be able to help more. I'm sorry that you're having similar issues with your dog! And I hate when people act so reluctant to do a favor - I'd almost rather they just say no! It makes it so awkward to ask. Is there anyone else that could babysit so that you could go out once in a while?

@newmamakt What the heck! I could understand forgetting to take one, or maybe being too nauseous to keep one down. The gummy ones are easy to take for people that don't normally take pills. I can't understand just choosing not to take one despite recommendations from doctors. The detergent craving is definitely a red flag...
  • WTF to the lady on the phone who said "all blood labs are drop in,  you can bring your referral paper and ID to any of the land under the same name" even when I clarified it was a 2 hour fasting glucose test not just a regular blood draw (in Europe they skip the 1 hour for everyone that they do in North America followed by 3 hour diagnosis test and instead screen you based on other risk factors and do a 2 hour diagnostic test if needed).

I fasted, went in,  waited in line for an hour even though I got there before it opened,  and then was told "you need to make an appointment and the only lab where you can do it is downtown" 😠 so now I have to wait a week, fast again,  take another half day.  Urrrrgh.

  • @BigBadWolf12 Ugh that's so frustrating. Why do people answer questions they don't actually know the answers to?? Sorry that happened.
  • @BigBadWolf12 ooooh my gosh! What a piss off! I'm so sorry! That's so frustrating!!
  • @flagchic Exactly. 1st grade, when we expect them to grow the most in reading, and this kid has been stagnant all year, parents obviously aren't working with them at home, truancy officer has made multiple visits to the home, and still tons of absences. And to top it off, I saw lice (not just eggs) crawling around in the kid's hair, again! Don't get me started on that either. Ugh.
  • @hillaryo14 That makes me so sad 😞. I have a first grader and he has absolutely thrived this year at school and loves to go! I can’t imagine a child being deprived of the opportunity of an education. Not to mention the home life is probably less than desirable...
  • @hillary014 Heartbreaking :( So young and they can't advocate for themselves. I have a co-worker who never graduated high school, dropped out in 10th grade and never got a GED/diploma. She said it was her mom who always made her/her sisters (nobody graduated) GUILTY for asking for rides to school. But now, I see a pattern with how she lets her stepdaughter out of school for any reason, any fake cough or cramp... even because her stepdaughter was "dragging her feet and late for the bus" so she wasn't gonna "bust her ass" to drive her there! She just let her have the day off. It's such a sad cycle.
  • @hillaryo14 That is awful for the child.  I would imagine their home life is less than idea.
