I was so surprised more important/main characters didn't die last night! I was prepared for at least half to go! That said, I was also pretty surprised by the ending. Is it really safe to say here....?? I do not want to responsible for spoilers!
I'm glad not too many died, but the scene with Jorah killed me, I mean he's been there since day one, but when Dragon came to Dany while she was crying, oh my goodness....I have soft spot for animals so when they get killed/hurt or are just sad it sets me off.
I'm very surprised at the ending, I did not see that coming.
@Cass005 Did you watch the commentary at the end with the writers? They said they've known for three years that THAT would happen (last night's ending). I never would have guessed, although I feel like I should have been able to guess given what a badass that character is. (I still feel like I have to talk/write in code).
I am of the opinion that spoilers are fine in here, since it's a GOT specific thread. So, readers be warned!
I was also super surprised at how few deaths we had, and especially that we lost 0 from the A-list and only 2 from the B-list. I was also a bit disappointed in the treatment of some of the deaths. I really only felt like Jorah's was meaningful. Theon's kind of felt trite. I'm glad he had a moment with Bran, but it was a really anticlimactic end to his story arc. I get the connection to Ned with an honorable death, and it's not like he was going to go on to have a happy married life, and I know that in real life people just die in normal, stupid ways, but after 8 seasons and so much development, he deserved better.
Also, Dany and Jon were dumb and wasted in this battle. Why not burn all the dead? Jon already knows he should do that! Why keep flying your dragons into extra-dangerous places with no real payoff? Jon, use your dragon to light the damn trench! Dany, good job saving Jon, but why did you even land in the first place? Why did you wait until you were overrun to try to take off again? Dumb.
@junebabyh Right?! They did an amazing job with it though because when she ran off earlier, I was like "where the F is she going?" haha. And then boom...out of nowhere...cause I mean I forgot about her by then lol.
Also, I think the best though was little Lyanna, it was like David and Goliath (I know spoiler but Jal said she wasn't going to come into the thread til tomorrow lol).
Dany is smart, but she is also driven by her heart. She ruined the initial plan to begin with by trying to help the Dothraki right off the bat.
The scene with her and Jorah was SAD!
Totally agree about the dragon just lighting up the trench for eff's sake. But I was trying to remember if there was ever something said about the dragons running out of steam or needing a break or something to recharge before they could fire again. It doesn't make sense otherwise why they would just not do the obvious. And clearly they couldn't SEE what was going on at all times (I barely could). It was so dark and smokey, I was like-- who is that, and that, and that?!
ALSO, now that the Night King is dead, I kind of feel like they are going to do a happy ending, which is going to ruin the whole show!

Yes, yes and yes. Huby and I were both like scolding her haha.
And when the red woman, could she go any slower??!?!?! You run your ass dont be walking, this ain't a stroll in the park lady! (sorry for the swearing).
- fucking love Arya. Though annoyed that she somehow magically flew over all the other un-dead to get to the NK. Was the dagger she used to kill him the one that Bran gave her?? Because if so, holy foreshadowing. We should have known it would be her to kill him. - Where TF is ghost. I am assuming he's not dead because they surely wouldn't just kill him off screen, right?! - Jorah's death was sad, but obviously expected. You knew he was going to die saving Dany. He lived to serve her. - agree that Dany was annoying at so many parts. Why was she just sitting there watching, letting Drogon get attacked by people? So stupid.

1) YES! My friend reminded me of that last night
2) I said the same thing when the show was over haha
@longhairdntcare Ghost was in a promo for next week's episode so he definitely made it.. *thank goodness*
Totally expected Jorah to die. He did it at least protecting Dany, which is probably the way his character would want to go anyways.
Loved that they had Arya kill NK, though also annoyed she was able to get by all the wights. Was super fast running and stealth one of her "no-face-no-name' skills? Since everyone basically survived this battle, I'm expecting that there will be more deaths in the coming war with Cersei. Or at least I hope they don't hold back, I love all of the characters but if it's their time and it makes sense in the storyline, bye Felicia.

I think Arya was, yes, stealthy and fast, but also allowed to get past because the NK wasn't remotely afraid of her. He was able to straight-up grab her out of the air, and he has never had any problems dealing with humans before. I figured he knew she was coming and the Craster Crew just let her come in because they didn't need to deal with her on their own. I liked that it mirrored Lyanna's scene, too, with the big bad guy basically underestimating her (although a zombie giant isn't really up to much analysis) and getting taken out mostly due to hubris.
So I have been under the impression that Dany will betray Jon in order to get the throne this whole time...but I just don't see how she can at this point. His 'family' just saved her ass and the asses off all her people. How can she possibly betray them now?!
I'm glad not too many died, but the scene with Jorah killed me, I mean he's been there since day one, but when Dragon came to Dany while she was crying, oh my goodness....I have soft spot for animals so when they get killed/hurt or are just sad it sets me off.

I get so upset when animals are hurt/killed in shows! It’s completely irrational. Last night I kept muttering “they’d better not kill the dragons” over and over the whole episode. And I made DH pause the preview for next week to make sure there were two dragons in the air.

Okay trying this again, sorry if i double post! On an airplane and the WiFi is iffy.
Anyway, I totally agreee about Dany landing and then not taking off the second Jon ran toward the keep. I get why they did it, so she could fall off, fight alongside Jorah, get him killed, etc. but it seemed lazy to me.
As for Arya, hell yes! That was amazing. I jumped up and yelled “Fuck yeah, it’s Arya Fucking Stark” over and over. I was not expecting her to be the one and it was epic!
BUT... I think Jon and Dany are both going to die, and their baby (guessing girl) becomes the heir!
Say what??? Did I miss something lol?
No, you didn't miss anything. They haven't revealed that she is pregnant or anything, but I think Dany's too honest to take the throne from Jon, and he's too humble to take it from her (even though he is the rightful heir). And since they have to do something super dramatic like kill off the main characters, then that's exactly what they will do, but not before Dany gets pregnant and gives birth to the future heir. And I'm guessing girl because it would be super predictable chauvinistic Hollywood to let a man win this whole game!

I agree that Jon is too sweet even though he is ultimately who would be best for the throne (even over my girl Dany). Your guess seems more plausible, but I would so respect if instead they made her more blood-thirsty and had Jon kill her out of love of country. That would be badass and he would be so conflicted.
I was annoyed at the plot armor for major characters, but ultimately was satisfied with the ending and length of the episode. Also, my heart rate didn't go below 100 for the entire thing so props to GOT.
Scenes I cried at yesterday:
Lady Mormont v. giant (ahhh)
Arya in that damned library for so long
Theon's end
Jorah's end
The dragon comforting her!!! (Was that the one that ran away in the first place though? That made me LOL when it shook her off and starting gyrating in the sky like she didn't matter)

But he was being attacked by white walkers, which is how Dany fell off in the first place, right?! He had to try to shake them off before they killed him.
@junebabyh I've heard that theory, but honestly, I don't know if it matters anymore. He's dead now, so maybe we'll learn that just to fill in a bit more color to the world, but I can't see how it would be at all relevant to the remainder of the story.

I totally agree with you here. Also #5 made me cry as well....so so sweet.

I know but shouldn't the dragon have wanted to die and fight to save her like Jorah? Maybe I'm being too idealistic but I thought that was the sort of relationship they had so I did laugh.
@junebabyh Yes I think for sure NK is Targaeryan (however it's spelled). I thought so based on the first episode of the 1st season and this one when the Targaeryan symbol was made out of dead people's limbs and so when she started blasting him I yelled "fire can't hurt him!" from my couch
@marbellie Ohhhhh! Hmmm, I completely missed that.
And yes, @steminist agree it doesn't really matter for the remainder of the story anymore now that NK is dead, but filling in the complete puzzle is nice nonetheless.

i just don't see how they'd draw it out for the 9 months to let her have a baby, and then she dies? So i am going to say this probably won't happen.
Just finished watching and waiting for my heart rate to go down... and I’m way past my bedtime (such an 👵🏻)
Great episode except when it gets so dark and I can’t tell what’s going on ah! My comments pretty much are all the same as above. I wasn’t expecting Arya at the end at all but thought that was a cool ending (besides her just appearing out of nowhere ha).
Also was surprised about the red woman. She seemed to just come back into play out of nowhere? (unless I can’t remember how it ended with her in past seasons).
Team Arya here too, though I don’t think she wants to be on the throne.
So many bad decisions! Not burning the bodies? Rookie mistake. Landing the dragon? Why would you do that? Hiding in a crypt? I did NOT see that one coming but there were a lot of people there with experience with white walkers. Someone should have thought of it.
I was was shocked that most of the main characters are still alive. Before the episode I wondered who they would kill off. 3/4 of the way through I was like “OMG they’re just going to kill everyone!!”
I loved the scene where Sansa and Tyrion had a moment behind the statue in the crypt. I loved the scene where Arya was being a badass fighting all the white walkers on her own. It showed how good of a fighter she actually is (even compared to the pros like Jamie and Brienne), and set it up to be plausible that she would save them all. I love that the Hound was too afraid to participate until he saw that Arya might be in trouble and then he jumped in.
The scene in the library had me half covering my eyes and clutching DH’s arm. It was a little too horror movie for my taste.
Arya is a awesome and I really thought she was about to die. Fun fact - before I was pregnant with my first DH and I considered the name Arya/Aria for a girl but when I was pregnant with DD, Arya was going through her mass murderer phase and we were like “Umm, maybe not.” She was my favorite character the first couple seasons and I’m glad she played such an amazing role.
@greenbean-2 I've always liked the name Aria too, but one of the characters in a horrid show (Pretty Little Liars, sorry to those who liked it) ruined the name for me
Arya and Lyanna, baddest bitches around!! TBH I'm over Bran and his moodiness. Dude, DO something!!
@marbellie@greenbean-2 I also have always liked the name Arya and in my culture it's actually a normal name so I've heard it since growing up. However now with all the GOT babies out there I don't think I could do it. There was a NYT article about all the babies being named Khaleesi!

Arya was our girl name since GoT came out. When we got pregnant I told DH I was hesitant to stick with it because I was unsure how they were going to continue her arc. After her scene I told DH that it was back on the table. :P

I watched the Behind the Scenes commentary on this episode and they were saying how they essentially were dividing the episode up into three acts, each one their own genre. The first was a suspense movie, the second was a horror movie and the third was an action movie. So if you were feeling horror movie during the library scene, you were spot on!
@Cass005 for some reason I’ve been thinking that Jaime will kill Cersei recently. I do like your theory though.
Even though it’s the most “obvious” outcome I still think Jon will take the throne.
I will admit there are many times I don’t understand what’s going on and have to read recaps afterward because there’s just too many characters and subplots when I typically work while watching. So I definitely am not the best person to make these predictions lol.
