Re: UO Thursday!

  • I don't understand beer.
I partake of and enjoy wine, cocktails, and liqueur. I do not enjoy, but I understand liquor.
I cannot comprehend the appeal of beer.

  • @lilmamabebe3 Agreed on the paper planner (and handwritten to do list). I’ll use my phone to set reminders sometimes, but I always have a backup copy! Plus I like the feeling of physically marking items off a list 🤓.
  • I don’t like the shiplap look/craze that Chip & Joanna introduced.
  • @heml I don't understand the whole Chip & Joanna craze. IDK, maybe I need to watch more HGTV

  • Probably only applies as UO for New Englanders, but coffee from Dunkin is terrible.

@mrosek91 whaaaaaaaaaaat? But what do you drink when it's a crisp fall evening by the campfire? Girl, you cray.

@lilmamabebe3 I love my paper planner! I will never give it up.

@lovelikestardust Dunkin' coffee tastes like burnt brown water. No thanks!

Chocolate cake is a waste of calories.
  • I am among great people, hahaha! Erin Condren for lyyyyfe! When I got mine, my nanny was super jealous so I got her one for Christmas and now she is obsessed. They are amazing. And yes--checking my to do list is what keeps me on task. I have ADHD but don't take meds and a paper planner is the best strategy I have for staying on task and organized.

Dunkin coffee is fucking nasty. So is starbucks, but I am always down for a latte. Panera coffee is where it's at.
  • @ElcaB Since I've sat at a campfire once in the past 10 years... and that was a family event.... I can't really answer that. But if I need a "causal drink" my go-tos are Smirnoff Ice, or hard cider. I really miss wine though... I do cheat and have a few sips every now and then, but only when we're somewhere with others, because DH (who really is crazy) won't touch the stuff, and I'm not going to open a bottle for half a glass.
  • @mrosek91 - go to Total Wine for all the mini bottles!!! They have mini bottles of good wine, not just the Sutter Home variety.

  • @peachy0709 The closest one to me is half an hour away, and it looks like they don't have any kosher wines in the smaller size. Oh well! I'm sure I'll get some good stuff at my parents over Passover, I'll just have to make it last me a while. In the past 4 years I've been drinking a lot less than I used to because I've been practically always pregnant or nursing, and even when I'm not it's not worth opening a bottle for just me, so I'm getting used to it.

@sourlemon My brother is a real beer guy, he loves trying all different craft beers. I used to have a few sips of his every time he would have one, because I figured so many people like it, I must be missing something. After a while he stopped letting me because he told me I was wasting his beer. But if you have a good recommendation that's kosher, maybe I'll give it another try in September.
  • @mrosek91 no idea if its kosher, but leinenkugel summer shandy is the best.

I'm a total wheat beer person. DH drinks almost any beer. I've made him buy summer shandy now just so i can steal the first sip from each bottle (1 sip a day on the weekends). It's everything right now haha.

  • Add me to the list of paper planner people. I tried to go with out one for like 6 months. it was a disaster.

There are 2 beers I'm sad I'm going to miss one is a local craft beer the other is Sam Adam's Cold Snap. It makes me sad when I see it in stores.

Another paper planner user over here. I would be lost without my Erin Condren planner. Also, fun fact, I misspelled my own name on the printed cover of my 2018 planner. 2018 was the year that "when it rains it pours and we are in the middle of a hurricane." When I got my 2019 planner I joked that we were already off to a better start.

@olivemomma I have never understood those either.  Especially since you have to pay more for them.
  • @olivemomma In VA I think it’s free to personalize, so way more people have personalized plates here than back home in MD. I’ve seen some pretty good ones but also some really weird ones!
  • I much prefer paper planning! I like being able to physically cross things off lists. Though I am sloooowly getting used to my phone calendar. But all my to-do lists have to be on paper! (Plus, if they are on my phone, every time I go to check what needs to be done next, I'll get distracted for an hour on my phone haha)

I also don't like beer. I've tried. Bleh. I enjoy some ciders, but I can't stomach actual beer. Last time I tried to be a grown up and suffer through one, I actually got super stuffed up for some reason.
Love me some wine though. I'll also drink coolers on a nice summer day, and liquor. I like girly drinks I guess haha. Or alcoholic milkshakes!
  • When we bought the minivan, we tried to get a customized plate but the one we wanted, including all variations that arent dumb, were taken. Since its DH's main vehicle and its been man-ified, he wanted "manvan". But yeah, he has a normal plate.

I'm totally okay with all you non-beer drinkers...more for me!

  • Ohhhhh I have one!

I never understand why people get a replacement ring to wear when their original stops fitting. It feels so ancient to be all “I need people to know I’m married.” And kind of insulting to unmarried pregnant people because there is nothing wrong with being single and pregnant or unmarried and pregnant.

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*

  • @AKuzReve , the fidgeter in me has an explanation. I spin my rings a lot. If my hands are idle, I’m playing with my rings. On days that I’ve forgotten them-which doesn’t happen because of this reason-it’s all out heart attack, panicky for a minute. I’ve never had to think about it before but if I do get to where I can’t wear mine, I can see getting a temporary ring just to keep me from the sense of nakedness without it, and panic when I feel for it and it’s not there. I don’t really care if other people know I’m married or not though.
  • @AKuzReve I took mine off a few days ago because my hand was swelling, but keep forgetting to put it back on. Like @emqbee, I keep panicking when I go to  with it and realize it's not there

I quite enjoy beer when not pregnant...maybe my UO is that stouts and porters are the BEST. I’m a winter beer drinker and switch more to wines for the summer.

I’m also a big fan of my paper planner. I love the way I can keep track of multiple things in one place. That said, I’m a Plum Paper fan over Erin Condren.

  • @mkrel I love fast food!

@wabash15 I’m the same way with paper books!!  I’m all about the feel of real books in your hand.

@ElcaB I’m alllll about the chocolate cakes, especially right now.

My UO is beer related.  I love beer with wings and watching the football game or at a party.  But the only beer I like is Bud Lite.  (Yup. Everyone rags on me for that one)
  • @AKuzReve DH actually said on my way out the door this morning (after I very reluctantly removed my rings last night) to “make sure people know I took my rings off because I’m pregnant and not because we are having problems”. Y’all. He was serious. What the what?!? First of all I’m pretty sure people won’t notice and if they do they can certainly tell I look like a stuffed sausage without me having to remind them. If he knew replacement rings were a thing I guarantee he would order them. 🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♀️
  • @sourlemon I want a summer shandy now ☹️ I also like wheat beers. Not into the IPA craze. I love red wine and the occasional white on a hot summer day.
  • Well now I really want a shandy. Or a hard cider. I don't dislike beer, but I don't drink it that much either. There are a few seasonal ones I really enjoy, but I'm more likely to go for a glass of wine or a cider, given the choice.

On paper planners, I feel like I like the idea of them more than I actually use them. I WANT to love them and get good use out of them, but I always end up using them for a few weeks before it starts falling by the wayside and I revert to making digital lists. I know a couple people who absolutely love bullet journaling, but that strikes me as way too much effort (at least to make it as pretty as they like).
  • I hate beer. Love hard ciders and vodka drinks, or tequila shots

I love my paper planner, but it's not fancy or anything and I mostly use it for budgeting.

I don't even wear a wedding ring, but I do have one tattooed on my finger, as does H. But wedding ring is beautiful. I stopped wearing it basically when we had our first kid because I washed my hands so much. But also, I'm not a jewelry person.

Idk if I have a UO this week.
  • @sourlemon right there with you. I hold off cold turkey 1st trimester but after that I will have a sip or 2 of wine most times DH has a glass - no guilt. I have once or twice even poured myself a very small glass of my own. I did the same thing with DS after completely restraining with DD. I’ve yet to meet an OB who actually thinks it’s problematic in anyway in such low amounts.

  • Add me to the beer lovers group. I run a plant and cocktail/craft beer blog and insta, and thankfully our city has seen a huge explosion in the craft brewing industry. My favorites are sours and IPAs, and DH loves stouts and porters. I didn't miss beer during the winter, but now that it's warming up and we'll start entertaining outdoors more, I'm sure I'll miss all of the new releases.
  • @purplg8r - DH use to rag on Bud Lite, et al until we moved down South and he realized you can't drink his snobby, heavy beers when its 100 degrees outside and you're at the pool all day.

  • @olivemomma yeah i held off until about 18 weeks for my sips of beer. FFFC: Because that is when summer shandy hit the shelf this year.

  • For those who like shandys I HIGHLY recommend Boulevard Brewing Lemon Ginger. It’s techically a radler, but it’s damn near perfect for the summer. I intend to buy some for August after this babe is born since August is still summer.

  • I’m on team no-beer! (When not pregnant) I’ll have some small tastes of sours or fancy craft beers and I drank a handful of lambics when I was in Belgium, but I’m a big wine geek and there’s a fundamental feeling I get from beer that I don’t like, regardless of how wine-like it is (like sours). I’ve also had maybe 2-3 glasses of wine this pregnancy.

And this is combo UO-response and FFFC, but last pregnancy I was actually looking forward to my fingers swelling because I wanted to buy a bunch of enormous fake rings just to pretend to walk around with 3 carat halo-ed monstrosities, and try out styles different from my actual wedding rings (eg I have round cut diamonds and wanted to try square), like putting on an alternate life. I fully enjoyed them.
