Infertility

2nd egg donor cycle

hi y’all...so a little about me....

**TW** while i was 7 weeks pregnant with my now 7 year old son, i was found to have rumors on my ovaries and underwent emergency surgery to have my ovaries removed. Thank God my son survived because this left me without eggs. Being that I was pregnant, i was unable to have an egg retrieval to have eggs frozen prior to ovary removal. ***end TW***

so now I was left with no choice but to use an egg donor. I am 36 and my doc fully believes that my body is able to carry successfully. In August 2018 we were matched with a donor, who honestly I had a gut feeling against, but my husband had declined 2 previous matched donors for stupid reasons...at least I thought they were stupid. So when he agreed to the 3rd matched donor I jumped at it. We ended up with 10 eggs(it was a shared cycle) which ended up with 3 embryos. we did not test due to the already insane cost of donor ivf. **TW*** the first 2 embryos resulted in chemical pregnancies, and the 3rd did not survive the thaw***end TW***
we were devastated! My doc believes they were just bad embryos and we got shit luck on this cycle.

After careful consideration we have decided to go through another donor cycle and were matched with a donor who I absolutely fell in love with. Got literal goosebumps and almost cried when I read her profile...completely different from the first donor profile experience. Also this donor is 22 and a proven donor with at least one live birth from her last donation. Previous donor was 30 and not prove . It looks like her egg retrieval will be sometime in May. I’m nervous, excited, scared, anxious and overwhelmed with the debt we are now in.

anyone else out there have experience with having to go through a second donor?

  • This sounds a lot like what my husband and I went through recently! I was only 26 at the time and was told I had virtually no chance with OE. So, we chose a donor (that was older than me) and ended up with only one PGS normal embryo to transfer after all was said and done. That transfer wasn’t successful and we were left with nothing. We went back to my clinic to discuss “what’s next” a few months later and was informed that my donor had donated again (my clinic does freeze all cycles so most of the times donors already have eggs banked!) and when we decided to use her a nurse came running out in the parking lot and told us that my RE had asked if we could please reconsider our donor because she had been selected a few other times since us and none were successful so they were looking into unknown issues with her! We took a very long time selecting a second donor and ended up choosing a 23 year old proven! ****TW**** I am now 19+2 with the first embryo we transferred from that cycle and have 4 more frozen! ***end TW*** Like you, we had a MUCH more overwhelming feeling when we chose our second donor and had a gut feeling it was right from the moment we left! I was devastated after our first transfer was unsuccessful but I am now so thankful that our situation turned out the way it did! I felt like i was one of the odd balls when my first DE transfer didn’t work (I know statistics say not to bank on the first one even in a perfect world but let’s be honest, we see it happen all the time!) I hope I explained that all well and I hope it gave you some hope! Any questions you have, feel free to ask!
