Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Daycare moms...

When and how did they drop your 1 year old from 2 naps down to 1?

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

Re: Daycare moms...

  • Because they have a group nap time from 12 to 3 she has been doing it since 9 month!  Once or maybe twice she napped in the morning but she keeps going and I get her up at 6:15!  I don't get it.  When she is home on the weekends she still takes two naps.  She does generally nap about 2 1/2 hours + most days.  They are magically at daycare!

  • In order to transition from the infant room to the toddler room (1-2yr), they graduallly decreased Anika's naps to once a day.  They nap from 11:45 until 2 or so.

  • In Owen's room if the kids need a nap in the morning, they just let them do it.  The only structured nap time is from 12-2,3 whenever they get up.  I think he is just on the edge of needing two naps, so is pooped by bedtime at 7:15 or so... He still takes two naps on the weekend, but i think we are more boring than his daycare room!
  • Ditto. ?J gets 1 nap for about 2+ hrs at daycare from 11:30 until he gets up. ?But he naps in the car on the way home. ?When he's at home with us he still needs 2 naps. ?

  • DS is in the pre-toddler room, and they are allowed to take naps as needed.  But in the toddler room, they get one nap a day.  So they try to slowly transition them during their time in pre-t.  I'm not quite sure how they do it.  I know when DS first moved into pre-t, he was taking 3 naps a day.  Now he takes one.  They have scheduled nap time from 11:30-2, and he sleeps then.  He is allowed to nap other times if he wants to, but for some reason he can stay up.  On the weekends he still takes 2-3 naps a day, depending on what we're doing.  They told me they don't make him stay up, so I guess there's just so much going on he does on his own.

  • They just did...LOL  i don't know how to explain it any other way.  I guess they just kept DS busy and if he truly needed it, they would put him down again, but so far 1 nap is all he has been getting and it actually has him going to bed earlier these days.  Usually in his crib no later than 7pm now.
  • Group naps at Daycare.  I dont' do naps except on the weekends, and then I dont' care if she takes two or not.
  • She takes a group nap from 11:30-1:30 and then has a nap at home from 4:30-5:30. So she is still getting 2 naps/day.
  • DS always napped HORRIBLY at daycare until they transitioned him to the big kid side of the infant room (this side gets them ready for the toddler room). There they have a routine where the nap on mats from 12-2. He was moved there at 10 months did fantastic on their schedule. He only goes to daycare 3x a week so there were days when at home he was insisting on a morning nap so he'd have a different schedule at home. There are still days now where when we were at home he insists on a morning nap and an afternoon nap and I let him because it allows me to get work done while he's napping. But most days he does only want 1 nap a day so on those days I keep his schedule as close to the one daycare does as possible.
  • Our son has done it on his own (he's still in the infant room, will transition this month to the Toddler room).  But like the PP, there is one group 'nap' so I think it happens in that way.
  • My DD's daycare worked with  her in the month or so leading up to her switch from infant room (where they sleep whenever and as much as they want) to toddler room (one group nap).  She handled it just fine and actually naps better there.  I think in the infant room if someone else was awake and playing she wanted to be too, but the group nap in the toddler room forces her to rest the whole time.
  • The baby's move from the true infant room and napping in cribs to the busy baby room at 12 months and they do a group nap after lunch and they nap on cots.  Starting at around 11 months, they visit the room but go back to the infant room for naps but they start keeping them up longer and longer in the morning so that the nap gets later and later.  They really keep the kids busy during that time that they get super tired.  Once they are a year, they just keep them in the busy baby room.  They have the lights on, music playing and do activities that keep them up and moving.  After lunch, they turn on quiet music and turn off the lights.  It works great and my older DD did great when she switched.

  • They have successfully done it in one week! I had a similar post a couple weeks ago concerned about this and to my surprise he's doing great. A couple days they allowed him to take an a.m. nap - but being in the room with all the other kids he just followed suit. This week (his official first week in the new room) he's napped 12:30 to 2:30. It's crazy. Good luck. It may be easier than you think.
