  • @emmasemm thank you, that is fantastic advice. The clinic just set my appointment for about a month from now and it's just a consultation. I couldn't possibly schedule it on purpose around my period to maybe get CD3 labs done, because I have no idea when I'll ovulate or what my LP will be. Every time I communicate with the office I cry and I have been doing it mostly through email with tears running down my face.

Can I ask anyone who reads this.. have you been open about your fertility with your friends and family? I don't feel I have to explain it to anyone, but I know it might get more complicated as things progress.

  • @flinstone-2 - I have been very open with my family about TTC and issues with fertility. We are a pretty close family though and talk about things like that.

@flinstone-2 I have been open with a few close friends/ cousins and my mom in terms of things going on. Several people in our families and some friends know we’re going through infertility but don’t know any of the details. DH doesn’t talk to anyone about it but I don’t think it really bothers him too much 🤷🏼‍♀️

Eta it doesn’t really bother me to talk about it, if someone asks I’m open. I just hate the “advice”
  • @flinstone-2 my friends know our issues and a couple of my sisters know as well. If I’m asked questions from other people, I’m open and honest about it.
  • @flinstone-2 3 of my best friends knew I was TTC but once we moved on to IVF I decided to tell 2 other friends and that's when we also told our families. It's nice for people to know, but at the same time receiving numerous texts each day asking about where you are in the process can be difficult if you're going through a rough patch.
  • @flinstone-2 our parents and few close friends knew about seeking treatment. I will say though, **tw loss** I told MH last night that I want to refrain from telling parents when we start trying/seeking treatment once we are ready to try again. I just can't handle the constant questions about it (mostly from his mom). his parents have already offered to get involved financially if IVF+PGD is our option once our genetic screening comes back  :|

  • @flinstone-2 we've been really open with friends and family.  I was very surprised how many people I know that have dealt with IF.  Even though the majority of people live far away the support they have offered is still felt.  One thing I was really surprised by was how many firefighters MH works with have gone through IVF.  I think it has really helped him to have other men to talk to about everything.  Like others have said we have received the occasional "who don't you just adopt" or "maybe it isn't meant to be" or "you just need to relax" but we've gotten very good at ignoring them and moving on.

  • @flinstone-2 so far I have only mentioned it to 2 friends with only 1 being updated since I'm a bridesmaid in her wedding later this year. I think the last time I told the other friend was before we had even had our first consultation with the RE. DH's family would understand as they spent 4 years trying to conceive him and another 4 with (I believe) IUI to conceive his sister however they have not been told either. As DH put it the other day, he doesn't want a pity party if we, as @lulu1180 put it, "come out" about it.

I have a large family and having to explain the same stuff over and over would get tiring and I really don't want people's opinions. This entire time I have stood at the position of - this is a journey between DH and I and no one else so they don't need to know nor do I want them part of it. That's just who I am by nature anyway. I'm sure sometime coming up it may get out that people are saying hurtful comments around us now that *TW* my sister has gone through an entire pregnancy and birthed a baby yesterday *end TW*. I think my parents are aware that we're taking a long time and may have an inkling that we've gone through IF treatments because my mom made the comment back in January that I had been having a lot of appointments lately and asked if everything was okay (she was referring to my FB post that it was my luck that I had a 2nd appointment on a day with a bad snow storm).

Sometime in the future I'll let everyone know, and that may be mostly due to beginning IVF soon, but we'll see. I'm playing it by ear.

That's my take on all this 🤷

  • @flinstone-2 Our parents and my closest family know that we are trying. Initially we told our friends that we are thinking about having a baby soon, but recently I've decided to say that we are not ready yet. Only a few of my friends are married, and none of them are planning to have babies soon. It's just not very useful to talk about infertility with people who haven't even started thinking about it... Also maybe I am narrow minded. *tw* I hate seeing my high school classmate posting baby pictures. Why can someone get KU so easily? In 2 years she gave birth to 3 babies including BG twins *tw* I am just very mad.

  • Thank you everyone. I have one friend who I talk to regularly as she went through IVF, but I haven't told anyone else in my family. Like @inthewoods23 they all just blink and get pregnant and I don't know how to even begin to explain it to them. DH doesn't really care to talk about it even with me.
