Re: Randoms week 3/18

  • Allergy season hitting anyone else? I’ve been up since 3am thanks to a bad dream and not being able to breathe. Going to pick up some Zyrtec first thing this morning. Ugh.

  • @mamanbebe yep. Here too. We have a couple huge live oaks that are blooming and everything is covered. It also doesn't help that our air quality is crap right now too because of an explosion and a bad chemical fire a few days ago that are a little bit north of us. :(

  • @mamanbebe I can't tell if it's allergies or pregnant rhinitis but I haven't been able to breathe at night and it's keeping me awake too. Sorry you're dealing with that! Let me know if Zyrtec helps. I've never taken it personally. I'm always afraid of meds making me more tired than I already am.
  • @Cbeanz It might be all of the above :( I was on the tail end up sinus infection #3 and then everything bloomed over the weekend. If you take a look at Pollen.com it tells you how bad your local airborne allergens are. You might like Zyrtec, it's non-drowsy and definitely took more of an edge off seasonal allergies than Claritin did during my pregnancy with DS. I was just reading this morning that you can even take Zyrtec-D now, which might be nice at night when laying flat seems to stuff up our noses something terrible.

@nopegoat Oh goodness, I hope some winds clear the air for you and your little crew soon. Are you taking anything for allergies or just dealing for now?
  • Thought y’all would appreciate this text exchange with DH this morning. 2nd tri rhinitis is real, y’all. I’d been warned, but it just hit me over the weekend.

  • @mamanbebe I've been sneezing constantly since Monday morning. I haven't had time to run out to CVS yet to grab Zyrtec, but I'm think it'll definitely happen tomorrow, this is insane. I haven't had allergies this bad since we moved here 10 years ago.

@nopegoat I hope the air clears up for you guys, especially with all the work you have to do outside. :(
  • @foodislove I hope you find some relief! I knew this was coming but I honestly did not think it was going to start for another month. I don't know how I'm going to deal when the redwood and cedar trees behind our house start dropping pollen.
  • @Cbeanz If you find that the Zyrtec makes you feel a little off, try taking it before bed instead of during the day. Finally, after 10 years, I've convinced my husband that he needs allergy meds. Shocker that he can all of a sudden breath... Why won't he just listen to me?
I take Singulair year round for Asthma, allergies, and Exercise-Induced Bronchodilation. In the spring, I add nasal spray (Nasonex) and Zyrtec when it starts to get really bad.
  • The pollen here has been terrible! It rained yesterday which was suppose to help clear some of it out, but definitely not enough.

We got the boys new bunks, and are starting to transition the youngest, he’s 2, out of the crib. I would prefer he stay in the crib a bit longer, but I also know in a couple of months my energy will be zapped again and won’t want to do it. We really want him settled before the baby arrives. Took him longer to go to sleep last night, but once he was asleep, he was fine the rest of the night. Hoping it gets easier as we go!

  • Hey ladies! I hope you all feel better and get some allergy relief.

Sorry I've been MIA. Just exhausted and overly obsessing over my hair (I have locs) and trying clean up the guest room so I can move my sewing stuff in there bc water is coming in there.
  • @shawnacrest FX things work out!!  I can't imagine how stressful that must be.

@nopegoat so you brought her eggs and she gave you shit for not climbing a ladder to check HER property's cameras? LOLOL people are so ridiculous
  • For everyone suffering through allergies--I have nonallergic rhinitis, which means my sinuses act like I have allergies even though I'm not allergic to anything, so anti-allergy meds do nothing for me. :/ If allergy meds don't help or you think it's pollution or an irritant that's bothering you, run a humidifier at night and use a saline spray twice a day. They also make decongestant shower melts, but I haven't tried them yet.
  • @mamanbebe just dealing with it. I'm not a huge med taker unless I absolutely have to but I do try to do local honey and lemon every day.

Thank you @foodislove it hasn't been nearly as bad here as they were expecting thankfully.

@quinniebear yep. So ridiculous. No more free eggs for her and I'm also done going out of my way to help her keep an eye out for her property. She's always been kind of needy but never flat our rude like that.

  • We're going out of town for Easter next month on my husband's side. I am so incredibly thankful that my sister-in-law just had her first baby, end of December, so people can love on the both of them, leave me alone and not touch my belly  :D They are great people and I got lucky with the in-laws pool. But it's a long, crowded, overwhelming weekend every time we go to a family event and it can be a lot. So yay for newborn-ish nephews!
  • Last night was sooo bad. I was in so much pain from sciatica and SPD on top of a whopping headache. I started tossing and turning at midnight, and after 2 hours DH finally got up to ask if I was okay. He ended up getting me Tylenol and that helped. And then I sobbed because I hurt so bad. I was not this emotional with DD, but apparently the pain hasn’t got me good lately.
  • Guys I don’t have the brain power to tag everybody but I’m trying to keep up! 😅

Not watching the kids for the root canal is really thoughtless and a shame. Sorry. Hope the surgery goes well and you feel ok!

The work stress thing is going on for me too- and I’m losing motivation by the day. It’s just hard to care about deadlines and the usual BS right now...

I’m getting ready to go back to the US on Friday and I’ve got to cram in all the baby shopping I can- last trip to the US before baby arrives! It’s going to be fun but I still have to work while there and the running around is exhausting! Will be good to see my family one last time with the bump. And to EAT all the things I miss/crave with vacation abandon! 😂

I have had a stuffy nose since becoming pregnant and have with each pregnancy. The pregnancy stuffyness is real and unfortunately medication does nothing. Allergy season isn’t helping much.

My participation has been drastically cut back since my husband was hospitalized for a week. We have a long road of recovery ahead of us and it’s me doing everything right now. So I’m either non stop busy or too tired to keep my eyes open, until I wake up at 2am to pee and can’t fall back to sleep.

  • @key33 How is he doing, girl? You know you’re a rockstar for taking over all the duties! You can do it! Keep your chin up, this is only a little blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things.
  • key33key33 member
He can do what he is comfortable with, which isn't much right now. They don't even have a clue on what caused all this so suddenly. It's just waiting to see how things go right now.
  • Dh just left for a 2 week work trip and this will be my first time solo parenting. Which also means vacation in 3 weeks.
  • Anyone else's NCAA team get the late (8:something p.m.) slot? No idea how I'm going to do it between the pregnancy fatigue and the caffeine limit...    :D

  • FFFC I've never been to a beach in my 30 yrs of life and we are going for vacation in 3 weeks. What type of clothes and shoes do you wear? Do the camping folding chairs work in sand? If it matters, we are going to Clearwater.
  • @greeneyedgirl12 yes!! Purdue doesn't play until 9:50!!
  • @asupernovablizzardstorm Never been to a beach?!? Girl! You’re missing out! I’m sure a camping chair would be fine. I’ve always brought lots of towels/blankets. Maybe an umbrella. It can get windy at times (at least in california is does.) that wind can be cold too, so depending on the time of year, you may want pants or maybe sweats...
  • key33key33 member
@asupernovablizzardstorm - I usually wear a bathing suit, cover up and sandals. If your not swimming some kind of light weight dress would probably be the most comfortable right now.

camping chairs do work, we have used them.
  • @asupernovablizzardstorm enjoy your trip! Clearwater is beautiful! It’ll be warm in Florida in 3 weeks so long pants won’t be needed like they are in Cali. You’ll die of humidity.
Bring an umbrella for the sun! Sunscreen, and lots of fluids! Also ziploc bags work great for electronics to keep sand and water off.

  • @asupernovablizzardstorm oh, and waterproof sandals/flip flops!

  • @asupernovablizzardstorm  It's not humid right now.... I'm like 45 minutes from Clearwater beach. I would pay attention to the lows, if they are still in the 50-60's like they are right now, you'll want a light jacket because it could be kind of windy in the evenings. You really just don't know what the weather will be like. Today is in the high 60's-low 70's and it's beautiful outside.

Are you staying at a hotel? Most have beach towels and chairs/umbrellas you can rent if you don't bring your own. Blanket also works too. They really have mostly anything you would want to purchase, but if you're staying in a house not a hotel, a cooler could be nice to bring drinks to beach. It really just depends on if you are saving money and making your food or buying drinks/food from the tons of restaurants everywhere.

I would bring a coverup, sun screen, flip flops, and sunglasses! A Yeti type cup will keep drinks colder longer too.
  • @asupernovablizzardstorm Have fun! I second the suggestion of ziploc bags for your phone: if you keep your phone in a sandwich bag, you can still use the screen and it won't get sandy or wet. I personally like mesh water shoes for the beach because they protect you from tiny rocks and shells, but they're a pain to take off.
  • @samanthak46 Guessing you’re talking ET, in which case my team (Michigan) is 9:20. I have the slight advantage of living in CST, so it’s not QUITE as late.

  • @asupernovablizzardstorm Are you bringing a kid with you? If so, a trick to get sand off of wet kids is to use baby powder. Dump a bunch on their legs and the sand will brush right off.
  • @greeneyedgirl12 FSU has the opposite problem, we played at 2, so missed the game while at work.

@asupernovablizzardstorm Clearwater Beach is great, you’ll love it!! We had our wedding down there almost 6 years. Everyone had great suggestions!

  • All the 6th graders in my school (majority of my work load) have full moon syndrome today AKA the are freaking NUTS. So I made one class do some prenatal yoga with me. 10 minutes, they actually managed to get back to work after, but damn did they laugh their butts off during :)
  • @indulgentgypsy Modifications and personal touches like that are what make an impression. I once shared the story of how DH proposed to me during class. A student went home and shared the story with his mom (single parent) that night. I then got a heartfelt thank you for being real with my students and teaching them more than just math. (She was a rockstar mom who raised a rockstar son. She even sent accolades on my behalf to the principal and my department head.)
  • Pollen has been out in full force for weeks and I've been surprised by my lack of reaction, until a few days ago. Holy cow- I'm a snottin' snifflin' mess.

Also, I am having pretty sever coning going from lying down to sitting up. I don't remember this happening last pregnancy. Any tips on repairing diastasis recti post partum without having to go to a practitioner? We are super rural so seeing a pt or physio mean hoofing it 1.5 hours each way and I'm hoping to avoid that...

  • Thanks ladies! @bear14+ we are staying at hotel. We plan on bringing our own snacks but eat out for main meals.

@Cbeanz our daughter is coming with us. This is pretty much for her since I won't be able to do much this summer. That's awesome. I didn't know that. We still have tons of baby powder from when she was little since we never used it on her.

  • @asupernovablizzardstorm kk, you can check with the hotel website or call and see if they offer chairs/umbrellas on the beach and find out how much to see if it's something you want to do. They are usually daily rentals, so you can come and go as you please and won't have to lug a bunch of stuff around. Depending on her age, I'd grab some beach toys! Buckets and shovels and stuff :) Hope you have fun!
  • @indulgentgypsy wow! That was really sweet of her!
