Hi ladies! We haven’t had a first time mom (FTM) check in for a while, so I figured we’d try a monthly one and see if there’s any demand for it to be weekly.

Re: FTM Check-In m/o March
Size of baby: Avocado!
How are you feeling? I feel pretty good, just starting to show so that's pretty exciting. Still anxiously waiting to feel movement from baby but I know it can be a while! I'm hoping that my pretty much symptom-less pregnancy (so far) isn't just going to result in a much worse recovery after birth!
What are you looking forward to next in this pregnancy or after baby is here? Definitely looking forward to feeling movement! We almost have a name picked out, but won't share with friends/family until we feel pretty definite about it. I'm also (selfishly) excited for our baby shower in early July so that we can figure out what we will still need to purchase ourselves and so I can successfully nest and prepare for baby!
Anything you are currently wondering about or researching? We just reserved our spot for daycare (even though we aren't starting until January 2020) so that took quite a bit of time to research and go for a few visits. I'm currently researching as much as I can about breastfeeding (plan to take a class through the hospital this summer) and postpartum recovery. I'm trying to prepare my H for what postpartum could be like so that he knows how to be the most helpful and sympathetic!
Size of baby:Oranges!
How are you feeling? So tired. I get 9-10 hours of sleep through the week which never feels like it's enough. I only feel well rested when I get 12 hours on the weekends!
What are you looking forward to next in this pregnancy or after baby is here? Looking forward to feeling movements!
Anything you are currently wondering about or researching? Not wondering anything specific, just feel like there are so many unknowns! I have been doing lots of research on twins. Sometimes feeling a bit alone as most of my friends/family all just keep saying how much work one baby is and that they can't imagine having two. Reading some good blogs written by twin moms has been reassuring for me. Overall, I feel that this is a pretty special experience that most people will never have. I am feeling grateful for the opportunity to have twins!
size: mango
how am I feeling? Feel better now than I did the first trimester. The nausea and vomiting has mostly gone away but now as soon as I eat anything I am miserable. Is like my stomach does not know what to do with food. Oh the the heart burn is no joke! I started feeling the baby kick at 17w6d and talk about happiness for me.. I relax and know the baby is okay every time I feel the movement!
Looking forward to.. having my gender reveal party this coming weekend!!! Getting caught up on stuff around the house.. I swear with working full time, online classes full time plus normal household stuff I am so busy. I want to do better at posting on here.
Wondering about doing cord blood banking. Any helpful tips or info would be great!
@twinmammatobe I'm jealous of your 9-10 hours of sleep! This stage of pregnancy is keeping me up or tossing and turning all night.
@janel3214 Congrats on your party this weekend! Do you and YH know the gender/is it a surprise for you or just guests?
EDD/Weeks + Days: August 29/16+6
Size of baby: Crunchy taco
How are you feeling? Tired! But good.
What are you looking forward to next in this pregnancy or after baby is here? In pregnancy, I think being able to feel him more routinely. I've felt flutters and some pretty small movements occasionally, but nothing big. Also for DH to be able to feel him. After he's here, I'm really just excited to see our family dynamic change.
Anything you are currently wondering about or researching? We're trying to decide whether or not we want to buy the Owlet system. I've heard very mixed reviews, from parents saying it's more of a hassle than it's worth to others saying they couldn't sleep without it. I think it's hard to decide right now because I'm not sure what type of mom I'll be once he's here.
Also trying to decide what to do for interim care before our spot in our first-choice day care is available. We are on the waiting list for our favorite care center, but the list is 12-18 months out for infants and we will need care beginning Nov. 1. From the time we got on the list, that puts us needing care from potentially November to February 2020 or even into the summer. I really, really want to avoid a commercial day care. I worked in them in the summers in college and that's the last place I'd want to leave my infant
Size of baby: Pomegranate
How are you feeling?: A little tired but nothing compared to the 1st trimester
What are you looking forward to next in this preganancy or after the baby is here?:
In just over 2 weeks, I have my anatomy scan, where we will finally know the gender!
Anything you are currently wondering about or researching?
Nothing as of right now, but I definitely do have random questions that pop into my mind every once in a while.
@oklahomak luckily, I work in a childcare center so I was guaranteed a spot, however, I work an hour away from home. So it was either take the spot and gave basically free childcare but still be an hour away, or find a new job and risk not having childcare available when I needed it. I think finding quality childcare is one of the biggest struggles of becoming a new Mom.
@twinmammatobe I wish I could get that much sleep during the week. I’m lucky if I get 7 and that doesn’t count my insomnia!
@janel3214 what are you doing for the reveal?
@oklahomak I’m on the fence between the Owlet and Snuza, but leaning toward the latter. My bff has the Snuza with her first and then the Owlet with her second. She said the Owlet would go off easily, if the sick slipped down or the baby moved a certain way. She said she unnecessarily freaked out a bunch at the beginning, but then started ignoring the alarms, which she felt wasn’t good either.
@brianalee2984 daycare decisions are so hard!
EDD/Weeks + Days: 8/23. 17w3d
Size of baby: creme brûlée
How are you feeling? Pretty good
What are you looking forward to next in this pregnancy or after baby is here? Definitely feeling the baby and knowing it’s her! I’ve felt some flutters that I *think* might be her but I’m not positive.
Anything you are currently wondering about or researching? We’re going to tour 3 daycares tomorrow. I’m not excited about it.
Size of baby: Mango
How are you feeling? Pretty good, although with baby & uterus expanding, it isn't leaving much room for my other organs. I was super uncomfortable after lunch today. Guess that's what I get for eating a big salad!
What are you looking forward to next in this pregnancy or after baby is here? AS in two weeks! Looking forward to seeing him again and making sure he's healthy.
Anything you are currently wondering about or researching? I've been busy with work the last couple weeks, so pregnancy/baby research has been put on hold.
@oklahomak I bought an Owlet despite the mixed reviews. Obviously I have no prior experience, but I figured that I'd rather have it as peace of mind. If you do decide to get one, keep an eye on Amazon. I ended up buying mine for around $200 when it was on sale a few weeks ago.
@twinmammatobe congrats on your twins and I'd definitely love to check out some of the blogs you're finding helpful.. I agree it's a special experience to be expecting twins
@janel3214 I hope you have a wonderful party
@oklahomak I'm also really looking forward to more routine movements..at 20w with twins I feel like we're abit late to the party but we're scheduled for A/S on Wednesday and I'm really looking forward to the reassurance
@brianalee2984 I hope you have a great A/S
@purplg8r I hope you find a daycare that will work for you and LO
@Lotus_2008 that discomfort after meals totally sucks..especially when it's followed by hunger roughly 30 minutes later
Size of baby: Bananas
How are you feeling? Much better except for alot of bloating
What are you looking forward to next in this pregnancy or after baby is here? Filling up the house with all the cute baby items.. I've only bought a few baby clothes so far
Anything you are currently wondering about or researching? BF with my flat nipples.. I'm low key worried about whether I'll be able to do it
Size of baby: banana
How are you feeling? I've been having trouble sleeping, so it's been tough getting out of bed in the mornings. Otherwise, I feel pretty good.
What are you looking forward to next in this pregnancy or after baby is here? I'm looking forward to feeling the baby move and putting together the nursery.
Anything you are currently wondering about or researching? Breastfeeding techniques. I know I'll get frustrated an upset if I have too much trouble. I know it could really go either way, but trying to learn as much as I can to prepare myself.
@janel3214 Do you know the sex yet or are you finding out at the party? So jealous that you are feeling baby kicks!!
@oklahomak How do you distinguish between a commercial care center and the one that you are on the wait list for? Or are you looking at in home daycares? We only looked at day care centers vs. in home, mainly because we don't have many friends in the area with kids that I would trust recommendations for in home centers from.
@brianalee2984 If you have a spot at the daycare you work at, wouldn't you be there when baby is there? I'm wondering why you would need to drive an hour away to drop the baby off at daycare - it sounds super convenient to have baby at the place where you work, but maybe I'm misunderstanding!
@purplg8r I hope your daycare tours went well! The ones we visited asked like 10 times if we had any questions, but I feel like there's only so much to ask about for an infant? It's not like I'm worried about curriculum or how they handle behavior issues or anything like that. I had also already researched tons of reviews and looked up any violations online so I felt like I went in knowing a lot.
@Lotus_2008 Yes, I'm definitely feeling lots of stretching going on! Just waiting for some movements from baby as well!
@nimo-ad Does your hospital have a breastfeeding class you can sign up for before baby is here? I obviously have no experience, but I wonder if that will help to answer any concerns you have.
@sw1122 Right there with you on the trouble sleeping! I'm sure it will only get worse as we get bigger!
How is a waiting list for INFANTS 12-18 months long when leave is only a few weeks in the states? That is mind boggling to me. (In Sweden we put our son on the list at 4 months old for a place when he's almost 2, but babies aren't even allowed to go to public daycare until 12 months old anyways so long lists make sense here.)

Our long-term care will be at a big church children's educational center downtown close to my office. The employees are a little bit older (just not college kids, and they're all required to complete 60 hours of ongoing education annually), the infant rooms are really nice, and we loved their daily schedule. It also has really great security, and all of the classrooms have unique codes to get into. A big plus was that it's two miles from my office and they encourage parents to visit during the day, so I'll be able to run over and spend my lunch break with him when I can.
The wait list is pretty long though, so we are looking at some home day care options for the in-between period. A good friend of mine works at DHS and inspects the home day cares in our area, so she is helping us navigate them. My MIL is local and is at home all day, but hasn't offered, so I've kind of taken that off the table.
So sorry for the long reply!
Also, raising kids in Sweden sounds like the dream! How long is your maternity leave?
Sweden is great! You get 480 days between the 2 parents to claim (can give some of your days to the other parent, but 90 are reserved for you, if you don't use them you lose them). You don't gave to claim any days the first year of you don't want/need and after they turn 1 you have to claim 5+ days a week to get paid based on your salary (otherwise you're paid a minimum amount). With 2 months notice for claiming days your employer can't say no. (But the culture here is so "family is great, use the leave as you like" so no one gets mad when you do) if you claim 7 days a week you're looking at 80%salary with tax deducted off after that, but if you can live on less you can spread out the days. It's so flexible. Norm is mom to take off near due date until 9-12 months old and then switch off with dad who stays home for an additional few months (he also probably took 10 days at birth and some days in the first 3 months but worked the rest of the time) and then save the days to use to extend holidays, do trips, etc as the kid gets older.

@oklahomak I am very thankful I have had family and a good friend offer to babysit my baby so I will just pay them. Good luck to you on getting the place you are hoping for.
@sw1122 I feel you on the sleeping! My back hurts or my pelvic lower stomach muscles just ache and I have a hard time falling asleep. The only time I don’t have trouble sleeping is after I have worked night shift and am exhausted!
@Lotus_2008 I have to do very small amount of intake at meal times or otherwise I am absolutely miserable. My husband told me it was from me eating unhealthy food but he now knows it does that know matter what I eat.
Wishing all of us FTM’s the best of luck finding babysitters/daycares that meet our needs and getting rest at night lol.
@BigBadWolf12 WOW! That is alot of days..at my place of work and typically for most we get 90 days maternity leave on full pay, after that you can choose to either go back to work or utilize your unused annual leave days to top up if you wish to stay home for longer...but it's always better to save up some of the annual leave days for other situations that may require one to take days off after resuming work..
