Have we started a Facebook group for August 19 yet? That platform is just a lot easier to navigate for me then the discussion boards on here.

This is my third BMB and I've never seen a transition to facebook any earlier than the month before babies were due. There groups you can join that are already formed on facebook if that's an easier medium for you.

@mrosek91 Would you consider making a fake account just to be able to access the group page? That idea has been tossed around before by others that don’t use Facebook.

@dogmomma096 I've thought about it, but DH works in Internet security, and says unless you want Facebook to know every single thing about you, you can't use the phone app. Not sure how user friendly Facebook's mobile site is... Anyway I have a few months to decide, I may end up doing it anyway, because I really love this community.

@kmb7964 that's going to be a big nope from me.. not until we are MUCH closer to the due dates. Most people aren't even showing their faces on HDBD (did you know that...??) yet so how would anyone feel comfortable exposing their FB profiles?

I am probably nowhere near as cautious as I should be when it comes to social media/privacy but it’s def too early for this group to migrate. Last BMB we had two migrations, and the earlier one (still late 2nd tri?) had a major troll issue. The one that moved over near the end has not had any issues.

I mean...I look at how minimal my participation has been here so far and there’s no way in hell I’d expect y’all to trust me with your info! (I promise I’m trying to be more involved though!!)

@sourlemon that was such a mess. But I remember being suspicious immediately. I was a lot more cautious with that group. Still nowhere near as involved.

@ElcaB yeah, DH also says he works under the assumption that everything he puts on the internet will eventually be in the hands of hackers, so I should ask him why that's different than Facebook...

@moon1417 her profile basically consisted of a few photos, said she created that FB only for the group - fair enough, but still... she got outed when she started messaging some of the members very strange stuff, sexual conversation, etc.

I can’t remember but I'm sure there was more. Maybe @sourlemon remembers. I want to say she claimed miscarriage but can’t find any thread on it. Maybe deleted.

Funny thing is, the troll actually started a discussion about fake profiles and told us she had a new profile just out of caution but she wasn’t lying about anything 😂

also I stand corrected, looks like that group was started in the first Tri. I’m surprised at myself for joining that early.

@moon1417 something like only posting the same weird altered picture all the time, admitting the name on her facebook wasnt her real name, and some other weird stuff. Then i think she claimed *TW* she had a miscarriage but everything she described threw huge red flags *End TW*.

Most of the time, if things dont sound right, eventually its discovered that they werent right. I was also in the May14 BMB which had the "glider-gate" incident but that was before I was a very active member. But that board is remembered for it!

Ahhh yes the sexual messages too. She was totally nuts!

Glider-gate: involved fundraising and a glider. I think the money was being raised for a different mom who was struggling or had a miscarriage and they were gonna get some memory items made, but the person who collected the funds kept it and bought herself an expensive glider. I only caught the tail end of it so it's fuzzy. I bet it's still there but a lot of those people deleted their profiles which at the time deleted all their replies. So there may be lots of holes on the threads. I may go snooping lol.

Same here! I’ve been lurking and reading everything since December but have only just now started participating... I read where someone mentioned FB being invite only later on and only the most active members and when I saw this thread my heart kind of sunk because I figured I wouldn’t be included

very glad to know the concensus is to wait a bit longer!

My last BMB had part of the group move to FB part way through 2nd tri (if I remember correctly) and the rest of us who stayed active on the BMB started our own FB group, and it's a great group! It didn't actually start until after the babies were born. I agree that it's too early for a FB group right now.

Personally, there may not be a move to a FB group for me. The ladies here that I communicate with, we will eventually exchange that info anyway. I’m just not comfortable sharing my personal life with people I’ve never communicated with at all but maybe the feeling will change as time goes on. For now, TB is a clean and easy platform to use.

My last BMB moved to FB about 2-3 months before our birth month, because we had a pretty great core group of participants and still had new people joining the bump. We only allowed relatively active members to join and we didn’t allow people who joined the bump after the transition to join the FB group. There ended up being 58 women who made the jump to FB and it has been awesome getting to know those women even more since the move. That being said, I am in no hurry to move and I am cool with staying here until the majority is comfortable with a switch.

@mrosek91 I refuse to download and use the FB app so I’ll only use the mobile website (and don’t even do that often) because I’m likewise suspicious. I post very little on FB anyway. Instagram and twitter are my jams. (I realize IG is essentially FB but people are just less annoying on there...)

@suzycupcake - I totally get that. We had a person in my last BMB complain on facebook that she "can't say how she really feels" about things, and I wanted to remind everyone that even though we've all come together over a common point in our lives, we're all still relative strangers. I don't judge someone in the slightest for maintaining their anonymity.

My last BMB, we moved over to FB very late in the process. It gave us time to weed out the drama llamas, crazies and trolls. We had a thread that clearly stated that invitations to the private FB group would be to active members only who requested one, and there was a grace period for people who had been lurking to become active participants.

It was not a perfect or drama-free process, but it worked for us. We did lose some active BMB members who don't use FB and didn't want to start. There was also pushback against people creating second/dummy accounts just for the FB group because it felt like an unequal exchange of trust and information. We didn't have trolls in the FB group, but we did have some disagreements and arguments that caused some members to drop out. However, the FB group is still going strong, and most of us participate every day.
