I hated the mamaroo and loved the old school fisher price "my little snugga puppy swing". We sold the mamaroo after a week and I bought the other swing off a facebook page, huge win. We also have this activity mat which both my kids would play with forever. I will live and die by the rock n play. Total life saver. And yep, my kids slept in it until about 3 months.
We had a hand-me-down Ingenuity swing for the first five months. Was great until he was too big, we handed it down to another mutual friend, and we'll probably buy another Ingenuity swing or try to find out at a consignment sale. Wasn't bulky, was easy to move around and put in the car, etc. if we headed to a friends house.
When he got bigger, we had the Rock'N'Play, also a life saver. While M slept fine in his crib from week 2 on, his naps were preferred either in a swing, on someone, or on the ground (he napped in protest to tummy time constantly).
We saw our friends who have a 5 week old Saturday and they have a Graco swing, I think it was the Sense2Soothe? Seems to have a lot of nice options for music, sensing crying/sleep! But also VERY heavy, not something you can move around easily. Also kinda $$$.
Also, we had this swing last time around, and ended up selling it. The seat was way too big for our newborn, he was always slouched over even wearing the harness straps, it didn't "cradle" him well. It worked once he got older, but by then, we didn't really need it as much.
I second the Mamaroo swing dislike. My kids hated it. It was the biggest waste of money ever. The fischer price swing is a million times better. It doesn't look as pretty and definitely takes up a lot more room, but it's 100% worth it!
Kick n Play activity mat is awesome, a little piano on the end that baby can kick and also turns so they use their hands too.
LOVE the fisher price swing! Probably our most loved/used baby item. The mamaroo was average for my boys... they didn't hate it but didn't love it. It is really great for smaller spaces or to move around to different rooms/levels of the house. Same with the rock and play! I was adamant that we didn't need the rock and play with my first but on day 4 DH and I drug our bleary eyes to target and it was the best $80 we spent. DS1 slept in it for 5 months. DS2 didn't sleep in it, but I kept it in our bathroom and it was the only way I got to shower the first 6 months! One tip for the rock and play, if you are gonna get one, go straight for the automatic rocker!! The extra money it costs is well worth it. I also high suggest an activity playmat of any kind! I reallyyyy want to splurge on the lovevery one (anyone have it???) because it looks awesome, but the infantino one we already have has been a huge hit too.
We had the Fisher Price snugabunny swing for my first two. We are buying a new Snugapuppy for our new LO. Hands down our must have item, both my kids loved this and sometimes it was the only thing they would sleep in to give us a break. Our motor die due twice! Fisher price sent us a new one each time.
A exersaucer/jumparoo was also amazing when the kids got a bit older, and it would keep them entertained for some time in a contained area.
We didn't have a swing and DD HATED her bouncy seat. We'll see if this LO uses it at all. We had an activity mat...just a cheep one...so we'll reuse that
We have an O-Ball jumperoo and it was THE BEST THING EVER. DD still pulls it out and plays with it...and she's 5:) It is made for 4 months + so we started using it super early and got tons of use out of it.
@ccmama3 I've fallen for that Lovery one also! It's so much cuter than the jungle one we have 😂
I'm forcing myself to hold off though, once we're in the new house we'll see how much splurging we can really do... might not be off the table since all we really need new is a dockatot and a new convertible carseat... hmmmm....
Chiming in here to say, I highly recommend choosing swings that plug into the wall. Battery operated swings can run through soooo many batteries. Some have both - a plug for the swinging motion and batteries for the vibration. But anything that relies solely on batteries might die in the middle of the night when you need it most.
Rock and play was a lifesaver!
I also picked up some Ingenuity bouncers on consignment (~$20) which are nice during the day to have at least one on each floor.
FTM here so not a ton to add other than Mamaroos are for sale on Craigslist, etc. all the time if you want to give it a shot but don’t want to spend a ton of money on one. I got one in really good shape for like a quarter of the price. It seems like they’re something that some babies love and some totally hate so I figured since we don’t have a big space we’d roll the dice on it
