This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Diagnosis (if you've been): unexplained rpl

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): wto

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): not trying this cycle. A follow up appt from last cycle with the re on the 13th. I’d like to be able to get right into more testing ASAP.

How are things going?: fine I guess. Looking forward to my appt and getting my big list of questions answered.

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): Benched, WFAF

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Nothing, just waiting for post loss AF

How are things going?: Not great. A whole lot of waiting and frustration. But trying to remain as positive as I can.

Any questions?: Not right now

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): nope. RE appointment 4/5

How are things going?: honestly, not good. DH is in Cuba right now which has Zika risk so I assume (unless he doesn't get any mosquito bites?) that we will have to avoid for 3 months. I guess in the grand scheme of things, what's 3 more months when we're already on #17, but it just seems like forever. And I just realized today that if we do have to avoid for 3 months, my friend who decided to start TTC 10-11 months after us *TW* will have her baby a month before we can even try again *end TW*. I just wonder what good fortune is like in any aspect of life (minus our relationship and families) - I just feel like we've been hit really hard lately between TTC and finances. /This ends my pity party

Any questions?: nope. Need to start making my list for the RE even though now I feel like it's sorta pointless if we have to TTA. At least we can make a game plan for June, lol

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI #3 with letrozole, trigger, and progesterone suppositories, PNV

How are things going?: minus the huge rage I was in on Saturday, everything is dandy. Going out of town this coming weekend.

Any questions?: If I use ice packs to keep a few suppositories cold as I travel out of town, it should be okay for 12 hours right?

I'd love an owl or other kind of raptor or falcon. We already own an adorable hedgehog who is considered an exotic pet. Here he is being cute and grumpy

@b_1029 hope DH brought some bug spray! Being March though, maybe the mosquitos aren't terrible this time of year in Cuba? Or is that just wishful thinking since I live in an area that gets very cold in the winter?

@b_1029 I’ve found each clinic has a slightly different policy for treatment after being in Zika areas. So it’s worth to check with them. My current one insist on 6 months and a clean blood test... my previous one said 3 months.

@inthewoods23 do you live or are you going somewhere really warm? Or do your suppositories need to be refrigerated normally? Mine are fine at room temperature. Not sure I would want semi frozen ones!!!

Diagnosis (if you've been): DOR AMA Autoimmune rubbish and now a bloody fibroid causing a problem!

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): I don’t know anymore. CD2.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Benched I guess. But it’s all academic after 4 years...

How are things going?: In circles.
So last week I had my ERA and Hysteroscopy.
ERA went smoothly.
Hysteroscopy they stopped after almost an hour as I was no longer tolerating what they were doing and experiencing runs of tachycardia. They were in so long because they saw a funny lump on the Fundus on my uterus and were trying to see if it is subserosal or submucosal. They think it is the latter which means it will negatively impact implantation... But even if it’s not it’s causing my uterus to be mis-shapen. Because of this when they tried to remove the two small polyps at the end I started bleeding etc and they stopped. So we followed it with another hour of 3D ultrasounds which were also not able to conclude which type it is.
And now I’ve been referred to a surgeon who specializes in fibroids as well as for an MRI. We need to know what it is and what if anything we can do about it.
It will be a month before we see the surgeon so yep. That was my pretty crappy week.

GTKY: If you could own an exotic pet, regardless of how dangerous the animal is and cost to own and care for it, what would it be? I’d probably have a seal. But as it’s not fair to just have one then I’d have to have a few of them. And keep them in a nature reserve so in their natural habitat.

@emmasemm we're traveling to ohio. My suppositories require refrigeration. The pharmacy does 1 or 2 day shipping so I'm guessing a few ice packs for less than a day is enough. I just have to keep them from melting right? 🤷

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Just had my last hcg test last week and waiting for a call from my doctor to confirm I'm back at zero. I'm also in my final TWW wait while benched, so only 10 days or so until I have my US for a follicle count and labs for FSH and estriodol.

How are things going?: I'm so excited to be so close to doing something again. I'm getting a little nervous about results for upcoming tests since I'm "older." I'm not sure how I'll react if I find out my FSH is crazy high/low follicle count.

Any questions?: Nope.

GTKY: If you could own an exotic pet, regardless of how dangerous the animal is and cost to own and care for it, what would it be? Probably an otter, or a mountain lion.

Diagnosis (if you've been): PCOS, anovulatory, AMA

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WIVF

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Currently on BCP with my saline sono Thursday. Appointment with the RE next week and hopefully starting stims at the end of the month.

How are things going?: Much better now that my HCG was below 5 and we can finally get the ball rolling.

Any questions?: I know it's been covered before but any tips/advice for the saline sono? I had the HSG done and it was really painful but that's probably because I had a blocked tube so I'm hoping this is easier.

GTKY: If you could own an exotic pet, regardless of how dangerous the animal is and cost to own and care for it, what would it be? Good question! MH and I use to keep and breed snakes but got out because it was getting too expensive. At one point we had 12 snakes not including the babies. I would love to eventually get back into but I don't know how likely that would be. We both worked as zookeepers at one point so I think we had our fill of exotics and lugging around lots of food and poop.

@celticknotfire I had a saline sono and it was NBD. I took a Motrin ahead of time and it was over really fast (almost too fast, given the cost). FX yours is easy too.

ETA: My RE just called and my hCG is at zero! For some reason, I was expecting to take clomid and just have intercourse at home, but apparently we'll be doing IUI. That never occurred to me as a possibility. I don't know if I'm excited or nervous, but all of a sudden we have to get more testing done to get ready for next cycle. After being benched, it seems like things are moving really fast now. Anyone have any advice/tips for IUI?

@ruby696 Is this your first time taking Clomid? The IUI for me was really easy but the worst part was having to lay there with a full bladder after the procedure.

@celticknotfire Yes, this will be the first time I've taken Clomid. I'm hoping I'm lucky and skip the side effects. I was wondering, do they do the trigger shot or do I have to do it myself?

@ruby696 you'll do the trigger shot, but your RE should go over with you how to draw it up into the syringe and the location to take it. My IUIs have always been in the morning and the trigger is done 36 hours prior so that's always done at night. DH has enjoyed stabbing me since mine was done above the butt. The needle is quite small so you won't feel much but the smallest pinch.

I know lots of people do them and it's really NBD, but I'm still wrapping my mind around the fact that I'm not just getting an rx and then HIO after I get a positive OPK (I was even going to spring for the expensive ones, lol). I guess that was pretty naive. You should have seen MH's face when I got home last night and told him about the sperm wash. 😂

@ruby696 the process isn't too bad! I think I would love to watch how they do the sperm wash. I'm not sure which method my clinic uses, but there's 3 different ways to separate from the good and bad sperm.

Sorry. I'm just jumping in, but I've been through this before.

@ruby696 - It's really not a bad process. They might give you a trigger shot. My first medicated cycle, we did Letrozole and timed intercourse. No trigger shot. Second round, we did a trigger shot. I did it myself, with a good friend there for moral support. Then we did our third round with IUI, and trigger shot. It was a very surreal day. Be sure to pick up a treat for yourself that day. My partner and I went together for his part, then got breakfast together before we went back to the clinic for the actual procedure. I asked for my actual RE to carry it out, as I didn't trust the nurse that was going to do it (just because I was super superstitious). Then I stayed there for about 20 minutes after (they said 10, but I wanted to be REALLY sure). Then partner went to work and I went home. I stayed put most of the day with my legs up, again because I am so superstitious. I enjoyed my "treat" of ordering myself lunch and a movie off Amazon.

@inthewoods23 I would love to know how they do it, too. And I'd love to know how much "good stuff" is left after they do it. Fascinating stuff.

@binkiesandbiceps I hadn't really thought about making that day a "me" day, but that's a really good idea. I'm kind of nervous about the whole process, but more so because I wasn't planning for it. And to go straight to IUI from being benched feels like things are moving really fast, which is exciting after so much nothing.

@ruby696 - It was very nerve-racking for me, too! I thought we were going to have one more cycle for timed intercourse, but I went in for a follicle check on Monday they were so excited about the sizes of the follicles, that they wanted to take advantage of it ETA: we had the procedure on Thursday. It felt totally out of nowhere, but it was the right decision, looking back on it. FX!

@ruby696 I'm curious for a guy with no problems how things fare from the wash. MF is the biggest factor with our IF so he loses quite a bit. The first 2 IUIs we had around 70mil/mL pre-wash and less than 10mil/mL post wash. The 3rd IUI after having him take a multivitamin the last few months we had 59mil/mL pre-wash but 35mil/mL post-wash! So I'm wondering what guys get when MF isn't an issue at all.

I'm also wondering about timing. I'm assuming there really isn't any flexibility, so I wonder how that will play out with work. Hopefully I don't have anything that can't be moved around.

@ruby696 My triggers shots have always been a pre-filled syringe and I just gave it to myself in the belly. It all depends on what your RE prescribes. I second what other have said about just relaxing and making it a you day. We also went to breakfast after MH did his job and that took the longest amount of time. At my office the PA does the procedure and I had no problem with her doing it because she does them all the time. Honestly for me the whole thing wasn't that big of a deal and was really easy to do. I did injectables with my IUI so I had more US and blood draws than normal but that's just so they could change the dose of my injections or schedule the trigger. I did one monitored TI with Clomid but it was cancelled because my lining was only 3mm but everyone is different. Sorry for the novel!

@ruby696 - I just wanted to add to @celticknotfire's comment that the trigger shots can vary. Mine were two containers. You mixed the two medicines in the little bottle, swirled it around (not shake to avoid bubbles), and then filled the syringe. I don't remember the name, sorry. The first time was so scary (for me), but by the second time...I was a pro. Hopefully you won't need a second time, though. 😉

I didn't think an OB could perform and IUI, but perhaps some have some fertility background and can do them? 🤷

@littlesheep123 I've personally never heard of an IUI being done by an OB but if they have all the proper resources I guess it would be ok. Is there a reason why you are doing an IUI without a diagnosis? I would recommend more testing before starting any treatment. Also if you are doing an IUI you would want monitoring to be done to make sure you don't end up with multiples. Just my opinion on everything but these are things I have learned along the way through my own experience and what everyone else has shared.

@littlesheep123 Agree with what @celticknotfire said and wondering what your history is (if you feel like sharing). Have you had any labs done yet? My saline sono wasn't bad at all. I'll be doing IUI at my RE's office and from what I understand it requires close monitoring for timing purposes. Does your OB have an RE in their office maybe?
