So big windstorm came through our area last night and through today. It was so windy (65mph gusts) all night that it kept waking me up bc we have so many huge tall pine trees right near our house. I was just in a meeting in a room with skylights and it sounded like the roof was going to come off.

I have to order a dress for a wedding in April. We are wearing burgundy and I feel like it's just going to look very handmaid's tale. And I'm not looking forward to being 24 weeks and trying to get a dress to fit and not look weird.
I am just so grateful. My husband started his new job today. Of course we have to wait 90 days to get medical benefits but I will only be around 6 months along by then. What I am concerned about is our friends that are at the hospital right now with their 4-5 month old who just had heart surgery . Hes doing REALLY WELL. Apparently it was a genetic condition that his dad as well as other relatives have. It made my husband a little scared because he is going to be a dad now and may very well be in a similar situation.
@Beauxbaton my BIL is getting married in May and this is going to be the third wedding at which I am 5-6 months pregnant, somehow my siblings, and siblings in law keep scheduling weddings for that period. I'm still waiting for the bride to pick a color but I'm hoping it's the same color as one of the gowns I already own... I don't know if the bride is making you buy from a specific place, or use a specific pattern, but I really liked the gowns at pinkblushmaternity.com they have a nice selection, and are reasonably priced.
@Beauxbaton I am terrible about having an UO or FFFC early in the week and then forgetting them by the time the day rolls around. @agpandme It can be hard not to worry you might be in a similar situation when you hear of a sick kiddo but it is super uncommon. plus if it happens you just cross that bridge when you get there. Glad to hear your friends son is doing well.

@agpandme if it makes you feel better, current stats are 1 in 110 for congenital heart defects when there's not a direct relative with one.
It's about 5% when a sibling has one. Still low, statistically speaking.
But I get it the concern. My older daughter needed heart surgery for a CHD and my younger one has a CHD that won't need surgery. And I have a genetic heart condition that is 50/50 to be passed on. We don't even know if my girls have it yet because they can't be definitively tested until they can undergo a stress test. And even with these challenges, my girls are thriving. Medicine and medical technology is great.
My husband has known about a job that is opening up that he wants since November. He currently has a great job, but this would be an awesome part time job for him, that would essentially double the amount of money he makes. He just had his second interview the other day and one of the guys said, “you should hear from us within a month.” Another freaking month. Someone he knows there says he should know sooner, probably by the end of the week, but ugh, the possibility of this dragging out for another month is killing me.
@thirdtimesacharm2019 I always think the size comparisons are a little off. @Beauxbaton I try to write my UOs and FFFCs in a note on my phone, so I don’t forgot. But I also feel like I never have any good ones. @agpandme praying for your friend’s LO!
@cmessamore fingers crossed he gets it! The wait is the worst. In November DH heard about an opportunity at another company that would offer better pay, better benefits, and a more family friendly company. Also, it would be work he would enjoy more and have more room for growth. He had interviews in Nov and Dec that supposedly went great. Finally had a third interview 2 weeks ago...and we are still waiting to hear.

I feel your pain @cmessamore & @Allycat11! My DH also put in for a new possible promotion. He applied almost 2 months ago, finally got a really great interview, and the manager has even said "just waiting on HR to tell us what we can offer!" And that was 2 weeks ago. The wait is the worst. If they could just tell us, yes you're the candidate we're going with, at least then the suspense wouldn't be so bad.
She's said several things like the HR comment that make us think he's in, but nothing official.
We're going up to NJ for a family weekend with DH's family. His parents, siblings and grandparents know, but I don't know if the extended family does or not. I hate saying the words "I'm pregnant" I find it so awkward, and I don't want to have to share the news a million times. I wanted to video DS#1 saying "mommy has a baby in her tummy" and send it out to the family WhatsApp, but DH vetoed that idea. So now I'm looking for another way to casually drop the news to as many people as possible in one go...
@mrosek91 I feel the same way about saying I'm pregnant. We got DS a t shirt that says "Big Bro" and had him wear that to announce to family. It was kind of fun to see how long it took for people to notice.
Good luck to your hubbies @Allycat11 and @cmessamore! Mine just started his new position this week so we just went through that transition period. We are SO excited for the new opportunities his new job presents.
Also my friend LO just came home yesterday Doing well!
@Amdogger82 that sounds so cute, but this is baby #3, I wonder if I put DS#2 in that shirt if people would realize, or think I just put him in a hand me down and didn't care. Also, I'm not sure what the schedule will be/when we will see people. We are going up because DH's grandparents are being honored at a fundraiser Sunday night. So I know most of the family minus really little kids will be there. But for the rest of the weekend I have no idea who we will see when... My MIL is one of 6, and 4 of them still live in the same town they grew up in. We're going up early so that DH's grandparents can spend time with the kids, but I assume that there will be visits with the various aunt, uncles, cousins who live in the area.
DH is home sick the last couple of days so I am on kid duty until he feels better. 🤷♀️ So looking forward to the weekend when we have our next appointment and get to hear the baby again.
@heml That is so annoying. I'm glad that they left a note so hopefully it will be easy to deal with them.
The same thing happened to me a couple years ago. I found out about it the morning of the second day of my bar exam. Needless to say, it did not help with my stress level that morning!
@heml That stinks. I had someone back up into my bumper at the grocery store and just left, no note. Even if minor, those situations get annoying and inconvenient to have to deal with them.

@mrosek91 I loathe telling people I’m pregnant!! It is the most awkward thing! I probably wouldn’t do a Facebook announcement at all but I feel like it covers so many people at once so I am planning on doing that. I also tell my parents that they are welcome to share the news with extended family, their friends, etc to avoid the awkwardness.
@jmesue1030 Yes! I don't have facebook, but I keep bring up the idea of doing a mini WhatsApp announcement, not even making it a status, just sending something cute out to our extended families, but DH is a very private person, and every time I bring it up it makes him uncomfortable. The problem is he's not the one who has to deal with all the people staring and wondering if I'm pregnant or getting fat. He keeps telling me that even if they do think I'm getting fat I shouldn't care what other people think. He really doesn't understand women. I think I'm just going to wear a super tight maternity dress to the event, and wear the belevation band that someone recommended in another thread. My bump is still pretty small, but hopefully from the fact I'm really emphasizing it like that people will catch on.
Just had a co-worker lecture me about how "we young people leave nothing to be surprised about" when I told her we already knew the baby's sex. Just because you didn't have the ability to know the sex of your babies 30+ years ago doesn't mean I don't want to know!
@Lotus_2008 I’m an attorney too and I still remember bar exam PTSD. Would’ve flipped if that happened to me the morning of the bar exam. UGH. I think plenty of having a baby will be a surprise, HA! I find the “your generation just doesn’t...” lectures so very annoying.
@MollyH1987@Avrilmai I talked to the guy last night, and he was super nice. Already emailed me his insurance info. Still annoying to deal with but def could be worse!
@Lotus_2008 Ugh. A family friend went on a rant at my baby shower for DS (everyone knew boy) about how finding out the sex before birth was like opening a present before Christmas. 🙄 1) I like knowing bc it helps me bond more 2) I liked telling family bc it helped them connect more with the pregnancy (other than our one visit home they had no tangible connection with the pregnancy) 3) I know people who waited for the magic moment in the delivery room and their birth plan went out the window and they were so out of it they don't even remember the magic moment anyways and while admittedly rare, I'm happy to know ahead of time and guarantee a happy "it's a boy!" moment
it's literally not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, so idk who people have such strong opinions one way or another.

Unless it's their kid, their opinion doesn't matter... I hate when people judge others for something so innocuous as finding out the sex of the baby. Or not.
Can we talk again about maternity wear? I got my order from ASOS (I think @jrm_14 and someone else was curious about it). Admittedly I ordered mostly basics but I'm not loving the quality, and the only professional looking thing I got (a pencil skirt) they only had in a size smaller than my usual size and sure enough it fits right now but it won't last long enough to be worth keeping. Where are ladies who have to dress very professionally getting their maternity wear? I can get by a lot of the time with a business casual look but sometimes I need to be in court or meet with older more conservative clients and I'm not finding much that will work for that. Someone the other week said Pea in the Pod is kind of disappointing in quality as well. I just ordered a Stitch Fix box with very specific instructions and I'm hoping I can find something in that but it will probably be $$$ if so.
@zamora_spin I just got my first maternity stitch fix box. They did ok... However, they included a non-maternity vest that was basically pointless to me. I mean, sizing was off so I wouldn't even be able to zip it up without a bump let alone later in pregnancy. I left it a bit open but they sent a few other things I liked.
@zamora_spin@velvetskyy, I've been using StitchFix for about 2 years, and I have to say that it goes very hot and cold. There are months that I love it, and keep everything in the box. I actually just pulled out my maternity bin, and found a few items from them that I loved with my last pregnancy, that I had forgotten about. Other times it feels like they are not listening to me at all, and picked 5 things with their eyes closed. The funny thing is every time it's 2 or 3 boxes in a row that are meh, I say this is it, I'm giving them one more box, and then cancelling, but then the next box is amazing, so I'm still with them... You do have to be prepared to spend with them though, but I hate shopping so that premium is worth it for me to not have to go to a store. Also, full disclosure, I did cancel at one point, and they invited me back with a year's worth of unlimited boxes for $50, so I don't have to worry about loosing that $20 styling fee if the box is really awful. @zamora_spin to answer your original question, I am in the same boat, casual attire at the work place, unless I'm going to the client. I bought 2 or 3 really nice skirts at a boutique shop, and just keep wearing them. They were pricey, but I've worn them through 2 pregnancies, and my sister has borrowed them, and worn them through 2 pregnancies, and I just pulled them out and they're still in great shape. For work/dressy tops I mostly did Motherhood, with a few supplemental items from StitchFix. I also got some of my more causal stuff I did Old Navy.
@zamora_spin I recently ordered some dresses from Seraphine. The dresses by themselves probably wouldn't work in a professional setting, but I plan to wear (non-maternity) suit jackets for a more conservative look.
@mrosek91 Yeah - a couple good quality skirts and a nice pair of dress pants would get me a long way I think. I initially thought I could just find some cheap-ish stuff and dress it up but in looking at the quality I am seeing (and especially imagining how big and therefore stretched clingy items will be) I think I do need to spend a bit more on some key pieces. I am a FTM but we do hope for a second so (with fx and some embryos on ice) I am hoping if I find a couple of nice but spendy items I can use them one more time after this. It's not an emergency yet at 14w but I noticed my most generously sized work skirt is about to be too snug this week and I want to be prepared. @velvetskyy What types of things did you get in your box, did you get professional clothes or was that a miss?
Re: Weekly Randoms 2/25
Week 20 = banana (6.5 inches)
Week 21 = endive (10.5 inches)
No way the baby is growing 4 inches in one week?!? But the other measurements follow on either side...
Also, what is an endive? Looks like romaine lettuce.
