Re: Group 4 Check In (Aug 24-31) - W/O 02/24

  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: Aug 26 / 14 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): pear

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): Blue

Upcoming Appointments: Tomorrow! I can’t wait to see him again.

How are you feeling?: Pretty good. Allergies suck, headaches are rampant, and back pain is there but I have energy and I can eat again so yay!

Rants/Raves: I am currently finalizing my registry and it is so much work. There are so many different kinds of things out there. Also my knowledge of babies is so bad. I worry for him, lol.

    Questions:

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)?

I would buy a house back home and then take a long beach vacation. I need the beach so badly. But also houses are so expensive in Toronto so I’d like to buy something for when we eventually move back!

  • @AKuzReve I keep tweaking my registry too! It’s hard to know what you’ll need, what baby will even like, and what will be practical for you to use regularly. We live in a townhouse without a ton of storage, so I really don’t want to register for a ton of extra gear we’ll never use. Good luck! Enjoy your appointment tomorrow!!

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 8/31, 13+1

Baby is the size of a(n): lemon

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): Hopefully getting NIPT results this week!

Upcoming Appointments: Tuesday 2/26 for our NT scan! It has been rescheduled TWICE, last minute (like too late to remove my leave at work) because of two separate MFM doctors that were scheduled to be there and couldn’t be. I guess my OB’s office requires a MFM to “read” the ultrasound for the NT scan. I’m getting to the end of the window where they can even do the scan (I’ll be 13+6 on Friday), so they will be fitting me in on Tues whether they like it or not!

How are you feeling?: Still good! Not exactly showing “baby” yet, but my gut is definitely larger so I look different, especially in maternity clothes!

Rants/Raves: My obvious rant is my OB’s office and not having my NT scan done by now. Rave: I finally told work (well, one of the schools I work at) so everyone knows there which feels good. I’m planning to tell the other school this week, it looks like the weather should cooperate. Almost to second tri!!!

    Questions:

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)?

I would love to quit working full time and find a part time, WFH teaching job for the years that our babies are home. I enjoy teaching but I want the flexibility! I would also want to sell our house and move to a larger single family.

  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 8/24, 14+1

Baby is the size of a(n): beet

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): will find out

    Upcoming Appointments: March 8th

How are you feeling?: Good, finally starting to get my energy back

Rants/Raves: DH woke up not feeling well. He even took Advil which he never does. I really hope it's nothing serious or long lasting.

    Questions: none

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)? Pay off the mortgage and car, and then anonymously donate to the expansion our synagogue desperately needs, and has been trying to do for the past 10 years.

  • @AKuzReve I am the youngest and grew up without really ever being exposed to babies, I was really nervous for my first, (honestly I'm still nervous). I feel like in some ways the moms who know they are unprepared are better off than the ones who think that they've read everything and can handle anything. The hardest part of being a mom is learning that "normal" is different for every baby and what works for one doesn't work for all.
  • @mrosek91 I hope your H feels better soon!! Mine tends to get the dreaded man cold but rarely actually gets sick.
  • @AKuzReve Do you think your allergies are worse since being pregnant? I think maybe mine are. I’ve had to take Claritin every single day this winter. With the registry I try and just do a little at a time. I figure it won’t need to be finalized until shower invitations go out. I have the Baby Bargains book and have used the website some. The categories that Amazon has is also helping.
@dogmomma096 @AKuzReve The thing I’ve gone around in circles on the most is the crib mattress because of all the considerations.
@dogmomma096 That sucks that they keep rescheduling you! I hope you get in this week.
@mrosek91 I hope your H isn’t too sick. This time of year the flu is so scary! DH has been sleeping in the other room because he’s had a cold.

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 8/29 / 13w3d

Baby is the size of a(n): Pea pod (?) honestly the fruits and veggies don’t make a lot of sense

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): Blue

    Upcoming Appointments: Tomorrow!

How are you feeling?: Tired sometimes and struggling with insomnia on and off, generally good. Some headaches.

Rants/Raves: Rave - we have an appt tomorrow and I’m actually excited about it. Usually I have a lot of anxiety but having the Doppler has helped a lot with anxiety.

Questions: People mentioning struggling with their registry - what are you struggling with? I find I can make quick decisions on a lot of things but there are a few categories I keep changing my mind.

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)? Pay off debt (school loans, etc), make some gifts to certain family members and a local charity, travel, maybe buy a slightly bigger house.

  • @peachy0709 I saw your update in the NT/NIPT thread - does that mean all is well? Is there more testing you have to do?
  • @zamora_spin, perhaps? This is my first spring here so I’m not sure if it’s the pregnancy or that’s just how they are with all the flowers and pollen here. I do feel extra congested which may be pregnancy. My shower is beginning of May so I gotta finalise pretty soon haha. My biggest problem is I need to research every single thing so it’s time consuming. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow!

@mrosek91, thank you for saying that. I’ve been around a ton of babies when I was younger but i never learned anything substantial. I Hope your H doesn’t get too sick and it’s nothing serious.

@dogmomma096, we have a similar problem where we are expats in a foreign country in a smaller apartment with no storage. We plan to repatriate so I don’t want to have too much to take with us. Good luck with your NT scan! I hope it finally happens! And I hope you get your NIPT results soon!

  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 8/24, 14w + 1d

Baby is the size of a(n): peaches

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): Blue and ?

NIPT confirmed that there is at least one boy in there!

    Upcoming Appointments: Nothing til mid-March

How are you feeling?: Slowly getting better! Nausea isn’t as bad. Of course, as soon as I think I’m over it, it comes back a bit.

Rants/Raves: The twins are making my symptoms feel “mismatched” from my first pregnancy. Like, my bump looks like I’m at least midway through the second trimester, and I’m starting to have a bit of reflux, which I didn’t have until the late second tri with DD...all while still having leftover nausea / fatigue from my first trimester. It’s very weird!

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)?

I’m a penny-pinching fuddy-duddy....so I would make sure our retirement accounts were stocked, load up all three (gulp) college funds...and then maybe take a vacation or two, and splurge for childcare (either to come along with us or to stay at home with the kids). Oh, and to be practical I would probably get DH a second vehicle b/c his current little sports car can’t fit a single car seat *eye roll*

    BabyFetus Ticker
  • @AKuzReve My baby knowledge was basically non-existent before my first. Like, seriously, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to figure out how to change a diaper. It’s shocking how fast you pick up on everything once they arrive. Trust me, you’ll be fine!
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • @AKuzReve Wow! That’s soon!
  • @AKuzReve I feel like I can likely keep a baby alive well enough... Diaper changes and dressing and holding and health care...the basics of survival anyway. But getting pretty nervous about the fact I have no idea about when things are "supposed" to happen/be done. It sounds like there are a lot of rules/expectations. Like, baby must be fed every X hours. Baby should nap X times for X length at X age, and then X amount at X age. Should be bathed every X days. Should have X amount of tummy time starting at X age...and a bunch of things I don't even know that I don't  know haha. It's kind of overwhelming...

@zamora_spin I hope that appointment goes well tomorrow!!

On the registry front...I started one. But I find it hard to do it on line. I want to see, feel and try out many of the products before I chose them. Like car seats and strollers. Want to make sure they are intuitive and easy to use.
  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: Aug 30. 13w2

Baby is the size of a(n): lemon

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): Green I think?

Upcoming Appointments: March 11 for another OB appointment. Hopefully will get off bed rest.

How are you feeling?: Starting to get excited. Hopeful. Occasionally nauseated still. Pretty sure I've developed SI joint pain in the last week. Not being allowed to stretch it out is proving quite painful.

Rants/Raves: Rant....I miss sex. So much.

Questions: people who have to pay for your ultrasounds, how much does a routine US cost you? We have an option to go to a private business that does non-diagnostic US for a cost. Gives us a chance to see baby and have some pictures. They have various price points for different packages. Just wondering what's reasonable

GTKY: I guess it depends how much the winnings were! First I would pay off our new house. Then, before I told anyone I'd won, I would ask my close friends, and family who wanted to go to Disney World. Anyone who wanted to go, or would go but couldn't afford it, would get a free trip. (If anyone answered that Disney is lame, they can miss out haha).

Parents and siblings would also recieve a chunk of money.

We would take another trip to Australia and New Zealand. First class flights 😂

I would likely go to part time at work to make sure we always have a parent home with baby.

I'd put some into the children's chairty that I started 2 years ago.

The rest would go into savings

  • @zamora_spin *TW CONTAINED IN RESPONSE* Unfortunately, no, all the Panorama did was mean that they could just fast track the chromosomal testing for only SMA and skip the other things they test for (which the Panorama stated were very low risk).  **BEGIN TW** I got a CVS, which is like an amnio, but earlier.  What they are testing for is SMA, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which the baby has a 25% chance of having since me and DH are both carriers.  Unfortunately, despite some medical advances, if the baby is affected and we make it to delivery, it can still be very very serious for baby.

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*

  • Sorry for being quiet in the weekly check-ins lately, ladies! I've been lurking and loving your responses but have just been feeling very "blah" the past few weeks.

@AKuzReve Yay for your appointment today! Hoping all is perfect. I don't know about the rest of you, but I love US pics.
Where are you registering? We're having the same problem. Both DH and I are product research geeks and registering without seeing things in person is proving to be much harder than I thought. I put up a FB status over the weekend asking other new parents for their registry advice, and it was so varied. Some things that people swore by, others said were a total waste. Not much help there, lol. But yay for an early shower! That seems so nice to be able to get a plan of action of what you'll need to buy afterward while still having plenty of time before your LO arrives. Did the person(s) throwing it for you suggest it, or did you ask for it to be in May? My BFF and older sister asked to throw us one, but I'm not sure when we'll schedule it.

@dogmomma096 Fx for your NIPT results to finally get here! It seems like you've been stuck waiting so much longer than normal. Are you going to do anything special for finding out the sex?

@mrosek91 I hope your DH's crappy symptoms aren't anything serious! Is your March 8 appointment an ultrasound, or just a regular OB visit?

@zamora_spin Agreed on the fruits and vegetables sizing. Does anyone else feel like TB app's sizing updates each day are off, anyway? One day it will say baby is the size of one thing, then the next day's comparison item seems considerably smaller. Oh well.
Fx for a great and uneventful appointment today! Which doppler are you using?
On registry items, I personally find myself struggling with diaper brands (I know we want ones that don't have chlorine bleaching, latex, fragrances or lotions), convertible car seat models and monitors.

@aecm Congrats on [at least one] boy! What's the schedule for your AS, with twins? I hope your symptoms settle down soon and allow you some rest!
Also, I love your GTKY question responses.

@chillycanadian When is your pelvic rest period ending? That started pretty early on for you, right?
On US costs - it depends. Our early scans were labeled as OB - limited on our statements and they were $90. Our 12-week scan was labeled OB - early and it was $120. Not really sure why they were different, because honestly it felt like the exact same US.

    AFM, nothing too exciting.

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: August 27 / 13+6

Baby is the size of a(n): Lemon on TB or "Large Laduree Macaron" on Ovia.

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): Blue

Upcoming Appointments: Nothing until March 14

How are you feeling?: Pretty decent. Still exhausted all the time, but nausea is basically gone. My abdomen feels "tight" at night especially. Kind of like if you ate way too many carbs and your stomach feels like it's pushing out.

Rants/Raves: My MIL is telling everyone our name ideas, so we're getting a ton of opinions on that. It's not the worst, I just know I can't hide my thoughts in my facial expressions and people are probably starting to think I'm a real B when they're sharing their opinions with me.

Questions: Anyone else feeling "flutters"? Still unsure if it's baby, but at night when I'm lying on my back occasionally I'll get this funky little bubbling feeling where my uterus is.

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)? Build a house (nothing over the top, but we've had a house plan picked out for a while now) on the land we bought, fund two college accounts (this is our first, but hopefully we'll have another in the future), fund our retirement accounts and build a house on our land for my parents. Also I would love to say I would give a substantial amount to a charity, but in all honesty, I would probably just give money to family members who needed it. I know that's probably bad.

  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 14w + 2 d / August 24

Baby is the size of a(n): Peach!!!

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): Blue (still absolutely in shock.  Both DH and I figured we'd have a third girl and we were happy with that.  We are of course happy with a boy too but we just really were not expecting it).

Upcoming Appointments: I think my next is at 16 w + 3d for an early glucose test because I've been feeling pretty terrible after eating ANYthing sugary (more details below)

How are you feeling?: Besides the mental health issue (as detailed above), I'm okay.  I had gestational diabetes last time and I think I might have it again - I ate a Cadbury egg and felt faint within 30 minutes.  I also am having some first trimester type symptoms - I smelled some string cheese this morning and I almost vomited from the smell.  Rude.

Rants/Raves: We've spent many years (including for this pregnancy initially) think of girl names! I'll probably put this in the name thread as well, but we THINK we have a boy name determined and I've started to bond with the name - Charles Alexander (nn Charlie).  My daughter's middle names also start with As (and mine, for that matter), so it'll be cute matching initials <3  We had originally planned to make the baby a Junior with DH's name, but as we started to think about logistics (including what we would call him), I just was like, forget it.  I'm out.  A backup name would be Walker, which is a family name (as is Charles).

Questions: Anyone else still vomiting? Because it SUCKS. I had HG (yes, HG AND GD, my body hates pregnancy) last pregnancy and so far this is better, but I'm still getting sick from time to time.

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)?: DH gets so annoyed with me when we discuss this question.  We have a good friend (who we want to ask to be the baby's godfather!!) who has a whole "lottery fantasy"  that includes jets and wine.  I would pay off DH's law school loans, our house, fund the kid's college funds, and THEN see what's left.  I also told DH he has to keep working even if we win  :D

  • @oklahomak - 1. I've felt flutters!! I am convinced I only know that they are flutters because it's my third pregnancy and I've gotten confirmation that I have a posterior placenta, so I will end up feeling more movement.  2. My mom is the worst with her opinion on names, and when I told her we liked the name Charles for a boy and she made a face and made rude comments, DH was like, "That settles that - Charles is the name!" She hates our taste in names, which is interesting for a woman who named her kids ultimate 80s names.

  • @oklahomak, the appointment was great. He was having his little dance party in there and so cute. We got to see his face profile and he already looks adorable. She showed us so many things and it was really cool to see. I live abroad and I am going home to visit my friends and family (really to eat food I miss) so my sister and mom have decided to use it to throw a shower. I won’t be home again until after baby is born in December so it’s really the only chance. I tried to tell them it wasn’t necessary but they insisted and my friends insisted so I gave in. I’ve registered on Amazon and buy buy baby. I also did the advice thing and got super conflicting advice haha but it helped me narrow things.

Also so sometimes I think I feel flutters too but I have no idea if it’s real or if it’s the baby, so I usually brush it off.

@chillycanadian, most of the extras is about €55. Our package is expensive but consists of many extras including u/s every 4 weeks or so plus some other great extras.

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*

  • @aecm, that’s what I figured. You just pick it up. I hope.

@chillycanadian, also! Yes exactly. And making sure they’re the right temperature. Figuring out what they should sleep in based on temp. So many things to know!

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*

  • @oklahomak - my AS is at 20wks, so April. Twins get lots of extra scans, but the extra ones all come after 20wks...womp womp.

As for flutter...I’m in the “maybe, can’t say for sure” phase. With my first I didn’t feel anything til just before 20 weeks.
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • @peachy0709, my placenta is also posterior. Does this mean you’ll feel more movement?

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*

  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: Aug 26 / 14 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): house mouse

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green): still anxiously awaiting the NIPT results, hopefully today or tomorrow!!!

Upcoming Appointments: Not until March 18th and I have to wait until 20w for an ultrasound. Thinking of getting an elective soon.

How are you feeling?: Starting to feel better and a little less tired, but I think my weekend nap helped.  I've had a serious up-tick in headaches so that isn't fun.

Rants/Raves: I want to get a few things for babe, but I am still waiting to find out.  If it's a boy I won't get much if anything since I have the two older boys. If its a girl...  I may do a little damage.

    Questions:

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)?

I would probably take the family on a very long fun vacation, get a horse for myself, hire someone to finish some projects in our house. (if its a really good lottery I'd become a stay at home mom) ;)

  • @chillycanadian most of those Xs are guidelines, the ones that are really important your pediatrician will tell you about. But even then... My MIL is one of those you must feed the baby every 3 hours until they hit 4 months, my mother is one of those you never ever ever wake a sleeping baby, so what I did was based on who was around, and my babies seemed perfectly happy either way. Another example, we went for DS#1's 12 month checkup and the doctor said, he only has 5 words? typically they have 10 by now. You may want to look at early intervention. I said something to my cousin who is a speech therapist, and she thought he was being alarmist. We decided to wait a few more months, by 18 months I was getting nervous, because he was only up to 20 words or so, and then one night it was like a flip switched and he was really talking with sentences and everything, and now he won't stop talking. I only get the US that the OB says are required so insurance pays most of it, but I have a $50 copay (which went up, for my previous pregnancies it was $40, I'm still annoyed at my insurance)
@peachy0709 praying for fast positive results.
@oklahomak glad you're feeling better. This is just regular OB appt :( next ultrasound isn't until A/S at 20 weeks, but FX they'll pull out the doppler. This is my third time, and I don't remember, I think they used at every appointment there wasn't a scan...
I agree with all of you that TB's baby is the size of are totally wacky.
Thanks all for the good wishes for DH. He's the type who thinks it's a sign of weakness to be sick, and tries to power through everything. So I'm a little concerned that he took the day off work... But I'm hoping that since he's actually taking care of himself this time around it will clear up faster.
  • AKuzReve said:
@peachy0709, my placenta is also posterior. Does this mean you’ll feel more movement?
YES. I use caps because it's crazy the difference.  With DD1, mine was anterior, and I thought I felt normal movement.  With a posterior for DD2, I felt EV.ER.Y.THING.  It's a bit more painful, but I have to be honest that it puts your mind at ease a lot more, too, because you feel so much.

  • @peachy0709 I am the same, I felt what was a bit of a flutter then when the doppler was there I think the baby must have been flipping around because I felt it and then the noise on the doppler was crazy loud. But this is also my third pregnancy as well.  Also, we don't tell our name until baby arrives to avoid some of the comments people make. I feel they are less likely to do so when there is already a kid attached to that name.

@dogmomma096 I hope you get word back on your NIPT results soon, I am so frustrated waiting for mine as well.  At least your OB is giving you the NT scan as well.  I tried to advocate to have that done since by the time I get my NIPT results (since this was a second draw) I will be out of the window and they are not giving me the scan.  So frustrating. I am not telling work until I know all is ok with babe.

  • @peachy0709 that is so frustrating!!  I think my mom dislikes DS2s name, its pretty rare and people have been using it for girls more, but I could care less. It totally suits him.  My au pair has been acting like its the Spanish inquisition finding out what names we do/don't like. She really wants to know but we refuse to tell her which names we have picked out. (at least I know she wont guess them)

  • @peachy0709 I’ll continue to hope for good results from the other testing. I love the name Charlie - that would be in contention for us except I agreed a long time ago that a boy would be named after DH’s late father.
@oklahomak I have the Sonoline B. So far it has been easy to find his HB every time. I do feel like the fruits and veggies are weird. I think they go by length and not weight in any way which is why on one ticker baby was a lemon last week and a pea pod this week. But some have lemon for 14w. You figure fruits are also a range of sizes - like when baby was a lime he must have been a key lime because he was only a little more than 2 inches long, but it just said lime.
  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: Aug 30 - 13wks 3days

Baby is the size of a(n): lemon

What team are you on (Blue, Pink, or Green):  we will find out at anatomy scan

Upcoming Appointments: next appt with a provider is mar 25

How are you feeling?: my lower back is aching and I am sleeping horribly, so I'm feeling pregnant lol.

Rants/Raves: my toddler is sick, and I'm just tired and achy and my husband works evenings so I have little to no help. So I'm also grumpy.

    Questions:

GTKY: What would you do if you won the lottery (let’s assume that we all actually play the lottery haha)?

Pay off student loans and the stupid debt we still have, and set aside savings and college funds, dream house & whatever $ is left for travel and fun.

  • @oklahomak My H and I wanted to find out together, so my doctor called with the other results and posted the sex to my portal. We did the Hershey bars and colored in “He” or “She” to send to family and had them guess!
@velvetskyy I really had to push to get both the NIPT and NT. My OB thought I was crazy for thinking I’d want both, but I wouldn’t get a 12 week ultrasound if I didn’t do NT and we really wanted the blood test. I checked with my insurance and they cover both so I just called back and said I wanted to schedule both.

Our NIPT results came back normal and we’re having a little girl 💕
  • @dogmomma096, yay!!! Congrats!!!

@peachy0709, that is really good to know! I thought it was too early but maybe not because of the posterior placenta!

Also, I found out that I’m RH negative. Anyone else? I didn’t realize what this meant until I googled 5 mins ago.

  • @dogmomma096 ahhhh!  You had yours drawn 1 day before me. I’m so anxious to have mine!  What test did you use?
  • @AKuzReve Yes - I am O- and therefore RH negative. We’re lucky to be born when we were because only a couple generations back they didn’t have a way to counteract the antibodies. I’ve had the RhoGam shot before and it’s not bad, might cause minor soreness.
