Re: 3rd Trimester Check-in | week of February 18th
- How far along? EDD? 34 weeks
- How is everyone feeling this week? Overall, not too bad, just slow and feeling like my belly has no more room!
- Any upcoming appointments? OB on Friday, then weekly appts start with GB test next week.
- GTKY: Anyone do anything fun over Valentines / President's Day weekend? MH was out of town for Vday, so we went to dinner for a late valentines / early bday dinner Saturday.
- Don't forget about HDBD or PIP your nursery!
Anyone heard of the superstitions around full moons and babies being born? My BMB just mentioned it and apparently there are 2 big one's coming up on Feb 19th and March 21st.June 2016 - CP

The full moon thing is a really phenomenon in general for hospitals -- they get busier for whatever reason around that time! And I wouldn't be surprised if it affects pregnancy hormones/etc since menstrual cycles were traditionally seen as centering around the moon and its phases.
34 weeks I remember feeling like I couldn't eat anything because my stomach had no more room! A really strange feeling!

I don't even remember what we had on v-day haha But my husband did get me an Anne Boleyn mug to replace the one he accidentally destroyed of Henry VIII's 6 wives. Very fitting valentine's day gift >.> And no, I did not name my little girl Anne after Anne Boleyn! Everyone asks me that when they realize I'm a little British history crazy. She is actually named Anne after Anne Neville, Richard the 3rd's queen who I loved the portrayal of in the historical fiction book The Kingmaker's Daughter. And Anne of Green Gables, of course!

@kristimh80 I agree with @mbradfo2 about hospitals being busier in general around full moons. Also, *TW* when I went in with my ectopic, they were saying they’d had a lot more of them than normal lately, and said something about a full moon around the time I’d have conceived or something. *End TW* so who knows. I didn’t appreciate hearing that at the time, lol.
And I can relate to the going from stuffed to starving - I felt like that happened all pregnancy to me! I’d be starving, eat until I was full which I felt like ended up being too much because then I’d be SO UNCOMFORTABLE, and then I’d be straight to starving as soon as I felt ok. Not fun!
@scikap I swear maternity shirts are made shorter than they were when I was pregnant with my 3yo - these were constantly riding up and showing my belly!

Sorry I've been MIA kinda. I've been way more active on FB. Just easier there than here. But wanted to check in. I also stopped commuting and going into the office which has been amazing but challenging as well because it's so hard to work with a toddler around. I don't have help since I'm home. She goes to school twice a week so that's a huge help and i cant get a lot done then. can't believe I'm next on the list. yikes!! Will try to respond to everyone soon. but if not don't hate me!!!June 2016 - CP

My doctor wouldn't talk about it yet when I brought it up around 34 weeks but I ended up going that next week anyway. I definitely read alot about not wanting to go past due date with IVF pregnancies -- mostly because the dates are extremely certain and there's no benefit to going past 40 weeks in any pregnancy. There are some studies that bring up concerns with faster than usual aging of the placenta in IVF pregnancies, hence another reason to not go past 40 weeks in one if you believe the studies' findings. And your doctor is being a little more aggressive than she might be with a non-IVF pregnancy, but that's because she understands what you went through to get to this point and doesn't want to take any unnecessary risks - going past 40 weeks is an unnecessary risk, imo. Both my OB and MFM said that they made some decisions when I was dx'd with pre-E that were a little more aggressive than normal but that's because they didn't want to take a single risk.
I would have done it if offered, personally, but that's just me liking to have some certainty in this uncertain process!

@mbradfo2 the 40 week mark is an average of gestation. It is far from a hard and fast number. Even if you know your specific dates some babies need/choose to cook longer. There is a reason the birth window for a term baby is 38-42 weeks. Also the majority (>95% of babies are born by 41 weeks). Each woman should have a talk with their provider about their individual risks but just because you reach 40+0 does not mean the baby needs to come out that second. I have not done IVF but dates with IUI are fairly exact also and it was never an issue.

@persnickity
Some doctors recommended induction at 40 weeks in IVF pregnancies because of some (older) studies that showed that the placenta appeared to age faster in IVF pregnancies than other pregnancies. So there were concerns of placental insufficiency happening faster after 40 weeks in tandem with knowing that the 40 week mark was very accurate. It's not clear whether or not this is actually true and even if it is, it's likely not an issue in most pregnancies. There are some studies that show that vascular structures have more issues in IVF pregnancies but they are not sure why.
