A) a gentle, fragrance free face wash that can help with breakouts. a fragrance free, light weight, non-oily, 30spf face lotion? Not a make up product. I wear exactly zero make up except for family pictures. But I'm having a hard time finding something with SPF for the face that won't break me out, make me itch, or make my eyes water.
Basically I have incredibly sensitive skin and I'm pretty sure plaquenil makes it even more sensitive. And most fragrances give me a headache. So over the past year or two I've had trouble finding a good facial skin routine and I'm at a loss.
Does anyone remember which thread someone asked about good questions for day care centers? I know there were a ton of good responses but it was a while ago and I can’t find it from searching. We have a tour scheduled for Tuesday and I want to at least narrow down the most important ones to ask.
@Beauxbaton I prefer sunscreen from Asia since they are a lot lightweight than ones in the US. Also, Asians are obsessed with sun protection.
My favorite is the Biore Aqua Rich watery essence from Japan. I get it from Amazon. It’s a light gel that absorbs quickly. I use it over my regular day cream. It’s really affordable.
If you want to stick with US sold products, Missha has great skincare products that are also very lightweight. It is a Korean company but they sell directly in the US. Misshaus.com
@dogmomma096 They are going to go over so much information with you and probably answer most questions. I think getting an overall feel for the place and seeing what you think about the director says a lot. I would make sure to find out about ratios, sick policies, what days they are closed, how long the infant room teachers have been there, policies for sending breast milk or formula, do they follow your LOs lead with a schedule or do they make all babies conform to one schedule even as infants? What kind of training do they receive on safe sleep? Do they check in them when napping? Those are some that come to mind.
The questions are important, but also do a gut check. How do you feel talking to the director and teachers? Do the kids seem happy? If you get to experience a tantrum/upset baby, how do the teachers handle it?
Sadly our daycare is closing, so we went to look at a new one in December, and what made me decide a lot more than what everyone said, was how they acted. You could tell the kids were happy, and the teachers really cared.
How do daycare waitlists work? There’s an in home daycare that several of my friends go to and I planned on using. But a couple of the parents already there just had a baby or are having one over the summer so I’m the first on a waitlist. Sadly, one of those babies is having major medical issues and may not go. So I need to tour daycares. Will I have to put down a deposit or anything for the regular daycare?
@purplg8r If I remember correctly with ours, they make you put down a deposit to hold your spot essentially. We had to move our DD to another daycare when DH and I got new jobs and fortunately, the daycare we liked the best had an opening around when we would need to move her. Since we were still paying for the previous daycare at the time, I asked if the deposit could be credited towards her first week of tuition and they happily obliged (or maybe they already do that, who knows) so that may be something to ask as well.

@dogmomma096 I copied and pasted all of those questions into a word document and brought it on my tour. The director answered most of them before I asked, but she also made me feel really comfortable with asking any and all questions. I agree with @mrosek91 as well; trust your instincts.

@dogmomma096 It’s kind of like buying a house... you will know as soon as you walk in if the place could work. Then you can worry about details like price and amenities. Although a lot of daycares will talk about “infant curriculum” it’s really just a holding pin at that age, so safety is number one. Don’t worry if you don’t get your first choice, the educational and social benefits don’t start until around age 2 (in my experience).
Wow thank you all for the help! I already got some info on pricing and their schedule via email. This daycare is flexible with part time and drop in care, even for infants, which is awesome for us since my H works shift work and we wouldn’t have to pay for full time. Looking forward to tomorrow!
@purplg8r I think deposits, waitlist fees, etc depend on your area and how tight the market is, so you’ll probably have to ask directly what their policy is. I live in a very competitive childcare area and wrote countless non-refundable checks when I was pregnant with DD just for the privilege of being considered to be on waitlists. I got into exactly 0 of them by the time I needed childcare, and none of the money back.
Ok so... I have a question for STM+ who have had a c-section. I have scar tissue in my uterus from a surgery 9 years ago. I only have been pregnant since the surgery and have never carried farther than what I'm at now.
C-section can cause scar tissue in the uterus.
I'm just wondering, did you notice any difference between growing /stretching pains in your first pregnancy, vs pregnancies after your CS?
Basically, Im curious if there was a noticiable difference for you due to possible scar tissue.
@dogmomma096 I plan to ask about vaccination requirements when I go tour a daycare next Tuesday. I’m in Texas and, unfortunately, my area is one that has had an uptick in non-vaccinated kids so it’s a concern for me.
@Beauxbaton I have sensitive skin and love the belif creamy cleansing foam and their moisturizing bomb moisturizer.
@chillycanadian This will be my third c-section and although the first pregnancy was 14 years ago I don’t think I’ve felt anything different in the scar tissue area (surgeries 6-7 years apart). My doctor said she would be more concerned if my scar was newer (less than two years). Is your scar similar enough to warrant VBAC vs C-section considerations? I had the option of VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section) with DS2 and declined. From what I understand the risk is fairly low (without other health problems) and they would insert a monitor during labor to make sure there is no rupture.
@chillycanadian I had a C with the twins and a VBAC with my last. I did not notice a difference. as long as things are well healed there should not be a difference or a big issue. The only question to ask your OB is would the consider you a "VBAC" and if so do they allow/support VBACS. there are some increased risks but since your surgery was not due to a dystocia or failure to progress I would think you would be a candidate for a vaginal delivery.

TTC 1/2012 Diagnosed : unexplained infertility 6 rounds of IUI and a MC 2/2014, rainbow twins 4/2015 TTC #3 5/2016 Restarted Fertility tx IUI 2 rounds, baby girl 12/17
@chillycanadian The only thing I've noticed in pregnancy after c-section is that the scar tissue itches, but the size, color, etc have stayed the same.
Also - again, if you’re close to one and looking for natural products Whole Foods has 100 ingredients they don’t allow in skincare/beauty products and I find it’s a good place to find new products.
I noticed a difference in my second pregnancy with my c section scar. It was only about 2 years apart and I felt more pain along the scar. The Dr said it was scar tissue outside the uterus being stretched and broken. I've already had a few instances that feel like that and my new doc said the same thing.
Thanks ladies! I had an Intrauterine septum rescetion (my uterus was heart shaped, which would have prevented carrying to full term). So there was no cut through the entire myometrium so I don't have to worry about VBAC concerns at least. Just a PGAL brain concerned about the pains, and hoping it's either normal, or explained by the scar tissue haha
@chillycanadian I had my septum removed last June! Mine was a partial septum, though. I had several other things taken out/corrected at that time, too. I hear you on PGAL brain & all the extra aches, pains, & pulls in the ute.
@chillycanadian & @jrm_14 Now I have definitely experienced pulling sensations & general discomfort, but I had those last time too! I think your uterus is growing a lot right now, so that's pretty par for the course. PGAL makes you question everything, I know - but try not to stress too much!
My PGAL loss brain only worries when I don’t feel anything. I get excited with the pulling/pinching because at least stuff is still happening 🤦🏻♀️ Can’t wait for our appt next week, no reason to think there are issues this go round, just ready for some piece of mind. This is the longest we’ve been between appts this pregnancy.
I realize nobody here is a medical professional (well maybe some are!) and I can ask my doctor, but I want to know your experiences! My question is: I know frequent urination is common, but HOW frequent are we talking about? When does it become a concern? I feel like I almost CONSTANTLY have to pee. Like sometimes multiple times in an hour. (Currently 13w + 6 days).
@law_and_little1 depends. Any other urinary symptoms? Foul odour? Burning or pain? Feeling like you can't empty your bladder? Are you actually peeing? Or just feel like you have to and then get there an not much happens?
@chillycanadian -- All good questions, I should have clarified! No other symptoms, odor, pain, etc. And yes, I am actually peeing, but sometimes it is far less than I would expect given how much I feel like I have to go.
@law_and_little1 there are times I pee, I will swear my bladder is empty and by the time I walk from the toilet to the sink I need to pee again, and stuff really comes out!
I'm peeing a lot too. UTI is a possibility but not likely if the only symptom is increased urination while pregnant. I would assume it's pregnancy related. However, technically can't say for sure without a test. For me, the last 3 days I've been having frequent urges with little output at times. But also having cervical pressure. So I'm assuming it's due to my body adjusting to the slight increase in pressure my uterus is putting on my bladder. If I had any other UTI sypmtoms I would ask my doc for a test, but as it is I'm not concerned .
@law_and_little1@chillycanadian I had the same issue a few weeks ago, but it felt like I couldn’t empty all the way/ extra pressure. No infection, but my NP said concentrated urine (not enough water, early morning) can irritate the pregnant bladder more than normal. I didn’t ask why, maybe the hormones? That was about the same time my nausea started letting up so I’ve been drinking more water and the pressure has gotten better, but not the frequency. Try leaning forward when you pee, it supposedly helps to empty. BUT it’s probably a good idea to rule out a UTI as it can easily spread to your kidneys if not treated.
For your STM+ Is anyone else's bump NOT showing more quickly the second time around? I feel like I look almost identical to my first pregnancy. I have been exercising more so maybe that has something to do with it, but of course it worries me slightly. Just curious if I'm the only one.
@mkrel I think I've mentioned this on other threads but I always carry small, and pop late. This is baby #3, with number 2, I think I popped around 5 months, but it stayed pretty small most of the pregnancy. I'm 13+5 now, and still not much there. Everybody carries differently. Whenever I worried that I was "too small" DH would tell me that with #5 his mother didn't show until her 9th month. (He was 11 at the time, so take that for what it's worth.)
Thanks @mrosek91. I'll be 17 weeks this Saturday and there is a little bump there (noticeable to me), but I guess I just figured that I'd look more pregnant by now.
@mkrel I was smaller with my second than my first and I did absolutely nothing different. Just ended up smaller and with a [very slightly] smaller baby. For my third, I popped before the end of the first trimester. I wish we understood all this stuff better!

I really like Pacifica brand! I’ve used this facewash:
I have also used these & like them:
Simple brand has a moisturizer that is lightweight, though is SPF15. I have several Simple face products & love them all.
However, I also have used this:
