This is a thread to connect Moms who have already chosen to plan a homebirth/birth center birth. (Feel free to jump in if you're doing an unmedicated hospital birth as well.) We'll need some good support when it comes time!

Note: Please don't come in this thread and bash people who are choosing out of hospital/unmedicated births to judge us or scare us with your horror story. To the ladies in here, this is also not the place to judge those Mamas who don't choose the route we are choosing.

What type of birth are you planning (home, birth center, unmedicated at hospital)? Unmedicated at a birthing center.

FTM? STM?/ Have you had an unmedicated birth before? FTM aka I know nothing!

GTKY: Have you found any good resources/books on unmedicated birth? No! I’m trying to research now so looking forward to suggestions!

GTKY: Have you found any good resources/books on unmedicated birth? For my first I read A Labor of Love. It's specifically geared towards Jewish women so there's a lot in there about G-d and faith, not sure how many people that will interest, but I found it very informative. It went through each of the stages of labor, what to expect and strategies for dealing with it. And interspersed throughout the book were other moms' birth stories.

@mrosek91, thank you! I will add to my list. All my friends here who have had babies are Jewish and/or from Israel so I don’t mind that if it’s also informative!

GTKY: Have you found any good resources/books on unmedicated birth? Two books that I kept seeing recommended when I was pregnant with my first are Ina May's "Guide to Childbirth" and "Birthing from Within". I did not read both fully, but late in my pregnancy I began to read birth stories from Ina May's book. A lot of them didn't totally resonate with me BUT they were empowering (reviews on amazon echo this). I personally am most comfortable in a hospital setting, I'm not anti-intervention or anti-meds, I simply just don't use meds very often so I preferred to try without (with an open mind), and I didn't find as much to read about my situation. This isn't a book, but one thing that I think helped me was to look up different "labor mantras" online. I'll be honest, a lot of these didn't resonate with me either but I found some that I liked. I wrote a few in a small journal on different pages and brought that with to the hospital in case I needed to look at it. I ended up not needing it, but I do think that having thought about some of the statements that helped other women did help me. Things like "this is temporary" or "the contractions are not too much for you because they ARE you", etc.

Just an update. Since this a summer baby, I decided to contact my doula early. Good thing I did! They were thinking of taking summer vacation around that time. They are still finalizing plans, but they will either move it to July, or move it up a little to get back the week before I'm due, and she'll have a backup available for me in case I go early. I feel guilty interfering with her vacation, but she was so amazing, I can't image going through another birth without her.

Hello!
currently 18+2. We are planning an unmedicated birth center birth.
I am a FTM, and questioning my sanity a little but I am super stoked about the center and the midwives I’ve met with.
I have not found any books yet but I’m open to suggestions!
