Baby registry thread

Can we all post our baby registries here for ideas?? Is this allowed? :) thought it might be helpful! I haven’t had a baby in over 4.5 years and I know there is so much new stuff out there!

  • I agree with @lilmamabebe3. This is why we really have the weekly threads on gear. I’m okay if we want a separate thread on registries too but I’m not sharing and would caution anyone against it. It’s also a little early for an actual registry...

  • Make that 3. No way, but I'm totally down to talk about registries as well because as a FTM, I don't know how many onesies I might need or when they grow out of things, etc.
People think we become mothers when we give birth but the truth is we become mothers the moment we start calling our babies to us in our thoughts, dreams and prayers. Some paths are short and some are so long that you can easily forget where you were headed.

How I feel all of the time.

  • I haven't even started thinking about registries! I need to raid my older brother's stash of baby gear first. :)
  • Question: Is it obnoxious to register for a third child?

My boys are 6 and 13, and we got rid of almost everything after number two because we thought we were done. I’ve heard you shouldn’t register after the first, but we have many new people in our lives and family who I think will want to give gifts.

    My thoughts are:
    1. Only register if it’s a girl, because saving stuff wouldn’t have mattered as much anyway.
    2. Make the registry in case people ask, but don’t “advertise” it.

@thirdtimesacharm2019 - Don't be so concerned about what people say or what is "proper." I think there are things that pop up after you have your first or second that you didn't realize existed or was over-used or outdated and you just want another one. Like you said, it can be something you do and only share with those who ask. But certainly not gauche or "needy" as some would have you believe. I think this is especially true with a large age gap or a new gender (though, TBH, most baby stuff is interchangeable in the early days). It's your special time ... do what ya like :) I don't know if you've ever used Amazon as a registry before, but I highly recommend it. I loved that so many of my friends, family, and co-workers were comfortable giving gift cards because they come in SUPER handy at 3a when you realize you're about 2 days out from running out of butt paste and baby is just miserable. It will also show you a bunch of cool new stuff that may not have been around 6 or 13 years ago.

    **History in Spoiler**
    Me-35, DH-36 - TTC since 08/10
Me - anovulatory, non-Insulin PCOS, DH - low end of "normal" sperm count
       IUI#1   - 02/15 - Cancelled due to scrubbed sperm count <1MM
       IVF#1  - 08/15 - 13x5-day blastocysts (ranging from AA-BB, most are 5 or 6), not PGS, on ice
       FET#1 - 10/15 - 1 emb - BFP (DD 07/16) (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
       FET#2 - 07/17 - 1 emb - BFN (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
       FET#3 - 08/17 - 1 emb - BFN (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
FET#4 - 10/17 - 2 emb - BFN (changed to estrace + prometrium because of allergic reaction to PIO sesame oil)
    ERA Testing - 12/17 - window moved (-1 day)
       FET#5 - 03/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
    Karyotype Testing - 04/18 - Negative (we're ok)
       FET#6 - 06/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
       FET#7 - 10/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
FET#8 - 11/18 - 2 emb - BFP; looks like one baby is going to make it, DD is due 8/16 (though likely to be 8/9)

  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 To my mind you can certainly register for a third child. There are advantages to registering like free samples and completion discounts. There's no reason you shouldn't take advantage of that. I would lean towards only sharing it if asked, though you could make it public in the sense it's searchable as well. I think the thing some folks find tacky is a full-on second (or third) baby shower. Sprinkles are often deemed more acceptable, and the registry for those are smaller items like diapers, rather than strollers, car seats, etc. Usually the invite list is only very close friends and family. All that said if someone offers to throw you a full shower it's up to you what you want to do.
  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 I would register but not advertise it unless someone asks.  With my second I created registries at Amazon and Target for the perks and to give myself a list of what I wanted...but I never shared it with anyone. Showers are not common in my family after the first kid so no one asked, they ALWAYS happen in DHs family except for when we had our second, and my friends just do diaper parties for 2nd,3rd,4th, etc... If your circle always does showers it may come in handy.
    11/2010 Diagnosed with PCOS

  • I'm planning to register for the welcome box and completion discount.  Then if close family or friends ask, I have somewhere to direct them as well.
  • I'm on my 3rd and totally created registries just for the discount and goody box! But it won't be public. My registries for kid 2 were also private.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • Thanks y’all. I forgot about the completion discount. That seals the deal.
  • Oops sorry. Forgot about all that personal info stuff ;) I just need ideas for the fun new stuff that’s out!

  • To add - this is my third child but I’m creating registries so I can get the discounts :) and use it as a checklist! I know there are a few people in my fam that will ask so it will be easier to direct them there !

  • The best best best book I read when pregnant with DD was Baby Bargains. I cannot recommend it enough when trying to figure out what to add to your registry and then which products are best. They do a breakdown of every category of best by price point and outlining what the differences are.

  • @EmilyA724 I second that book! I basically complied my whole registry from the advice of a few trusted friends and that book

  • @EmilyA724 @olivemomma I stumbled on what I think is a website by the same folks from that book when folks were talking about sleep surfaces. They are very candid about the dangers of certain products. Added the book to my Amazon cart!

  • @zamora_spin @EmilyA724 and @olivemomma Thank you for posting that book and website! I had no idea they existed!
