Re: Group 2 (August 8th-14th) Check-In: w/o 2/3

  • Est. Due Date / Weeks + Days: Technically I'm 12w3d and EDD of 8/16, but I will be scheduling my c-section somewhere between 8/9-8/14

Baby is the size of a(n): plum

Upcoming Appointments: normal OB appt on 28th with a quick gender scan

How are you feeling?: good, except with a weird presence of nausea (have had zero so far)

Rants/Raves: Rants: BRAS! It's too early to be sizing up :(  Raves: Slowly telling a few more friends and family the good news, which feels really good to share.

Questions: Are there any larger-chested ladies in here or someone that the hookup on some good quality, short-term bra finds? I don't mind spending $40-50, but it's killing me that everything is $70+. I gained 2.5 cups last pregnancy (and it didn't go down, despite losing all the weight) and I have no idea where they're going to land this time. My favorite maternity bra (Bella Materna Sexy T-Shirt Nursing bra) no longer carries my size. Ugh.

GTKY—Who is your favorite fictional character of all time?: It's kind of a toss-up between Disney's Belle and Olenna Tyrell (Game of Thrones).

    Lemon

    16 week in early March

Feeling pretty good, still tired but hoping to get some of my energy back soon.

Rant: We told MIL about the pregnancy this weekend and for the most part she was excited and happy. However, she asked whether we were going to circumcise and disagreed with our decision. She would not let it go and it got real awkward really fast. DH was very annoyed.

Rave: I got to see baby at my 12 week appt. on an ultrasound! Unfortunately it was bc the nurse and doctor both had a hard time finding baby's hb via doppler. Baby's fine but it was still stressful.

Has anyone used Stitch Fix for maternity clothes? It's kind of pricey, but I'm dreading shopping for maternity clothes and would rather have someone else pick out clothes for me.

Lisa from The Simpsons and Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones.

  • Est. Due Date / Weeks + Days: August 14th / 6 weeks 6 days

Baby is the size of a(n): plum but lemon tomorrow

Upcoming Appointments:  we had our ultrasound confirmation today which made me cry happy tears.  I had some issues with my period and haven’t had one since September sothis was really our first time knowing due date or how far along I really was (hence I haven’t really posted)

How are you feeling?: I would say I’m nauseous 90% of the time I’m awake, also experiencing some heart burn. This is my fourth pregnancy (2 DD and 1 MC) so the whole not feeling well is pretty status quo

Rants/Raves: rants: I wish everyone wouldn’t say they hope I have a boy when we tell them.  I just want a healthy baby and if we end up with three girls that’s cool.  Raves:  Just thrilled that I have an actual due date and can start following along with how big baby is and everything.  Also - no guilt already pulling out some maternity pants tomorrow.....

    Questions:

GTKY—Who is your favorite fictional character of all time?: Honor Herrington or Eve Dallas (points if anybody recognizes these characters)

  • EDD: August 13, 13 weeks

    size of a lemon

appts: next week on Valentine’s Day. ❤️ 14 week appt.

how am I feeling: still nauseated most of the time and dry heaving over random stuff like grocery store smells. I have DH go in and buy stuff cause it gets old dry heaving in random aisles. Am hoping the nausea gets better within the next week or so.. just this week my hips started aching like crazy. I can’t get comfortable in bed. Also my boobs went from achy to painful! Enjoying a bit bigger boob size lol.

Questions: At what point do I need to stop sleeping on my back and what is the best pregnancy pillow. I have been trying to sleep on my side now but is so hard to get comfortable with my sore hips.

    GTKY: Alice in wonderland lol

Baby is the size of a(n): weighs as much as a slice of bread

    Upcoming Appointments: end of Feb

How are you feeling?: stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill nauseated but I haven’t thrown up in a week? I’ve been taking anti-nausea meds when I get nauseated and it heads off the vomiting. I feel guilty for taking meds when vomiting (probably) once or twice a day isn’t *that* bad (like I can stay hydrated and I’ve had much worse stomach bugs) but I HATE throwing up and worrying about throwing up and feeling blah because if I move too quickly I’ll throw up...so I’m taking the meds.

Rants/Raves: Told parents/siblings/parents in law/siblings in law and it was nice to have people so excited!

    Questions:

GTKY—Who is your favorite fictional character of all time?: Jane Eyre

ALSO I like Game of Thrones but I read the first book when it came out...when I was TWELVE. Daenerys is 13 when the first book starts (I think?) so I loved her character but the child marriage plot line always made me feel 🤮 (which I think you’re supposed to be squicked out by it but I just REALLY identified with her character being the same age as me at the time).

Update a few hours later: It has been 0 days since I last vomited. 😛

  • I’m with you on day 0 @krb99

im trying to figure out what I can eat for breakfast since I wake up starving but keep down... Frosted Flakes is a no go apparently
  • @Lotus_2008 - Wow, what an absolutely awkward and unnecessary conversation your MIL decided to drag you guys into (i.e. your baby, your decision) ... hugs. Also, I love Tyrion, but that's one of DH's nicknames for me, so I had to go with Olenna because I can only hope I'll be as strong, smart, and badass as she ever was.

@mama1824 - Don't feel any guilt! TBH, I never left maternity clothes after I had DD (even though I was back at pre-preggo weight almost immediately) ... she's 2.5 ;) #noshameinthismamagame

@janel3214 - Are you normally a back-sleeper? If so, I would highly recommend the Snoogle (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000635WI/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1). I was solely a back and stomach sleeper before DD, and this helped with the transition. Worst case: if you just *can't* sleep on your side, this provides enough support and elevation that you can lay mostly on your back without the risk of causing direct pressure on your vena cava (the major blood vessel that provides bloodflow to you and the baby).

@krb99 - Awww, I'm sorry you had to reset your vomit clock :( Hoping today is a little better.

  • Est. Due Date / Weeks + Days: August 12 / 13w2d

Baby is the size of a(n): Matchbox car

Upcoming Appointments: I have to go to a "genetics class" Monday before they'll do any NIPT...which I'll be too late for the NT test at that point so I'll only get to do the Quad screening. Whatever. Next appointment won't be until 16w on the 25th, where I HOPE they'll do a quick scan to see gender?

How are you feeling?: Better than I was. I'm now on Zofran, Reglan, and b6 + unisom for the HG... Now the vomiting is under control but the nausea is still in the background. But I'm getting daily headaches and insomnia now :(   My headaches disappeared and I was never this sick with DS!

Rants/Raves: Rant: Um...can I Puh-LEASE get my prego boobs now? No boob growth yet, and I'm not hot, just a hot mess! Last pregnancy I felt so pretty lol    Raves: Today I can feel my uterus above my pubic bone, so even though it's really just my guts being moved around/outwards, I feel more like I'm getting my "bump".

    Questions:

GTKY—Who is your favorite fictional character of all time?: This is a totally difficult one.
    Favorite Harry Potter: Luna Lovegood.
Fave GoT: Sansa. Tyrion. Almost all of them have been my fave at one point.
    Disney: Maleficent
    I mean....I guess I'm just indecisive.

  • @aevan011 - Why would your OB send you to a genetics class before they do an NIPT? Are you high risk? Also, are you AMA? I feel genetics screening is something that happens much earlier and before the window closes on the NIPT (especially if there is a risk). Love your character choices!

  • @MamaK225 - Apparently at this military hospital the midwives/Dr don't send referrals for the NIPT/Quad, the genetics department is in charge of it. It's really effing stupid, because this class is the only reason I couldn't do the first tri NIPT...they only offer it once a week and by the time I was told to schedule it, there was a holiday, then I was out of town, and now it's too late. I'm not high risk or AMA, it's something everyone here is forced to do.

I feel like it's extra dumb because this isn't my first pregnancy, so they're not going to "teach" me anything new.

They also do this thing called "centering" where they basically do group appointments that are 2 hours long, with other women with similar due dates. In theory, this is great for first time moms. But thankfully it's not required for me (it is for some patients depending on service branch...why?!?!), and I do individual appointments. I do not have the time or patience for them to force me through guest speakers and seminars at every appointment.

  • @aevan011 - Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek. As a Brat, I can say that a lot of practices in those facilities is positively primeval. You can still do the Quad screen (if my fuzzy memory serves me, I did it around 15-16 weeks with DD, before I was considered "elderly"), and I would push to do NT if you do have concerns - though it doesn't really sound like you do. That's absolutely insane "counseling" is required for STM+ moms. I don't know if you're overseas or not, but have you checked surrounding hospitals for TriCare acceptance? I know many practices will take transfers (especially if you're already receiving care) up until 17 or 18 weeks, if that's something you want to consider. Many civilian practices require a $500-ish retainer fee that covers all testing and U/S through birth (then you have to file with the admitting hospital), but I would think TriCare would cover most/all of that. I know pregnancy is seen as kind of a non-event for many, but something to contemplate if you're already unhappy with your care.

  • @MamaK225 Yes, I'll still be doing the Quad, and I don't really have concerns. I'm just more pissed off at the stupid policy. For the most part I'm actually pretty pleased with the practice/hospital so far, it's just these little things that irritate me because they make no damn sense. Also I was pretty spoiled at our last base because they didn't even have an on base facility so I got to choose my amazing OB and had an awesome experience from beginning to end.

Right now, I've seen 3 different midwives and only been disappointed in one....mostly her attitude and her negative outlook on VBAC attempts. The hospital is fully equipped and other midwives are supportive of an attempt but she just was a negative nancy. I've heard she is actually great during L&D but I'm just going to hope the rest of my experiences are positive.

I am overseas, and I could have transferred to the German hospital but absolutely nothing about it sounded appealing to me. But I heard TriCare just changed and pregnancy  isn't a qualifying life event to switch from Prime to Standard (where I could go off base). So either way I'd be stuck.

  • Well boo on that! Oddly enough, I was born at Landstuhl American ... when they were transitioning from the old facility to the new (present one). Hope that midwife shapes up, while we all know the delivery process is chaotic, a mother's request shouldn't be met with that kind of attitude, especially so early and without them being present during your last birth. Glad that you're happy with the care you're receiving with everything else :)

  • That'll be my hospital. My bff was born there as well. They're currently building a new facility as well, actually!

Yeah my main issue was her negativity without any discussion whatsoever. Had a perfectly acceptable and realistic talk about risks with another midwife.
