Re: Randoms- week of 2/4

  • Was informed of a meeting at 4:30 today. SO is OOT and both of my babysitters can't do it. My job has a family room for when kids are too sick for school/nursing or pumping moms but I don't think I can just leave a 5+2 year old in there by themselves for 2hrs.
    Fun!

Oof! I’ve had to bail on inspections before due to similar things. Any local friends who owe you a favor?

  • Is it weird that I still consider my youngest the baby? She'll be 2 soon but because DD1 was 3.5 when DD2 was born and DD2 will be 2.5 when this one comes I'm like "but DD2 will be so younnnngggg when she gets displaced as the babyyyyy" *insert teary eyes here*

  • @grapeskittles4lyfe my son will be 2.5 when this one comes along too!! He will forever be my baby. We switched him to his “big boy” bed last night and 😭😭😭
  • @grapeskittles4lyfe nope! I was like that with DS1 (27 month age gap) and predict i‘ll be this way with DS2 (28-29m gap if things work out)

  • I have an inspection conference call soon and considering bailing on it. They’re so useless 95% of the time and tend to involve our regional staff arguing with those of us in the central office. I have better things to be doing with my time than listen to bickering lol

  • Happy Monday ladies! I visited another daycare this morning for DD and fingers crossed we can get her officially into the open spot today because I really liked it and spots go quickly around here! I’m waiting to hear back from work that I can push my start time to 8:30 instead of 8 (daycare doesn’t open until 8), so as soon as they *hopefully* give me the ok, I’m going to go drop off my deposit this afternoon! If this works out it will be such a HUGE weight lifted off my shoulders.

oh,also, my symptoms ramped up so much over the weekend. So much nausea and vomiting 😩. I didn’t have any of this with DD!

I have to share this funny story from this weekend. I put it in a spoiler because it's long-winded 😂

When I called my obgyn last week to set up my first prenatal appointment, I was disappointed with how anticlimactic it felt. I know these are medical professionals and they do this every day, but I am a FTM and am really excited/nervous/feeling all the feelings, so I was bummed it was a very cold, straightforward, professional interaction. We literally scheduled the appointment and that was it. No congratulations, no sorry for your prior loss, no "until your appointment make sure you are doing xyz," just.... see you in February. Lame! Then this weekend, I was out with a couple friends when my H texted me a photo of the mail he had just brought in from the mailbox. On top of the pile there was what looked like a huge manilla envelope with a return address of my obgyn doctor. I got SUPER excited, and was like, "YESSSSS! I bet they sent me some kind of new-mom orientation packet with pamphlets and timelines and lists of things to eat or not eat and do or not do. I CANNOT WAIT TO READ ALL THE INFO!" I was bursting at the seams the whole day while out with my friends, counting down until I could finally get home and rip open my giant info packet. When I finally got home, I barely acknowledged my H before turning my undivided attention to the mail pile. And there on top, was not a huge manilla envelope bursting with info packets like I expected. It was a tiny, half sheet of paper sized manilla envelope, with exactly one piece of paper in it. No new mom orientation, no packet of info, no pamphlets, no timelines or lists of to-dos. It was a reminder of my upcoming appointment.

  • @galentine I totally understand what you mean! With my first pregnancy I was floored to find out that I didn’t need a blood test to confirm. That they just believed me when I said I got a postive test lol.

  • @ceclarlinetlo, LOL exactly. Like, you really believe me? And you really trust me to just.... know what to do? Thank goodness I have internet forums to teach me how to be pregnant 😉
  • @galentine When I was PG with DS (had Kaiser for insurance), I went in around 5-6 weeks for a "confirmation of PG" type appointment. They made me pee in a cup so they could take a test and after they got the positive, they straight up gave me the biggest folder of info ever! I totally know what you mean about wanting to know everything. I still do this time around too! I've forgotten so much. I'm sorry that your doctor/nurses weren't more enthusiastic. Mine were either this morning when I first called.

  • @stephanie123456, I'm jealous! I want a giant info packet so bad! Maybe I will finally get one at my first appointment. I feel ridiculous because I can get all the information I need from books and the internet, but I just irrationally want it to come from my doctor. 😂
  • @galentine Maybe that's why they don't give it anymore? I think they should at least give you the option.

  • @geminigirl16 good luck with the house!! So exciting!
  • *lurker*
@stephanie123456 I had Kaiser for 1/2 of DS’s pg. I remember they gave me the big packet of info!! I also got monthly (or bimonthly?) magazines about being pregnant. They weren’t that bad, IMO. Lol!!

I feel you @galentine though because this time after my pee-in-a-cup to confirm I’m KU appt they gave me like 4 single sheets of paper. No nice magazines or quiz or fill in the blanks, LOL. Do you want me to send you a packet of special new mom information?
  • @geminigirl16 how exciting!! 🤞🏼 For you !
  • @galentine with my first few pregnancy they had me go into an office with a lady who’s whole job was to get a bunch of info from me/H and answer any questions I had. She gave me a HUGE packet of stuff. Like a bag full. It was so much fun! Now they’re all “you’re a pro, no need to see___” Bogus!
  • @grapeskittles4lyfe I love that idea! Building off your previous announcement. How fun!

you guys....🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I realized in the middle of yoga this morning I didn’t take my son to speech therapy yesterday. Just a straight up no show. This is like the 3rd time in 6 months. I hope they don’t fire (him) me as a patient 😔

  • Anyone else already tallying up their PTO/sick time for the rest of the year to see what's available?

As of tomorrow (payday), I will have 56.58 hours. If I don't use any until maternity leave, I can accumulate 125.88 hours. I really hate living in a country where PG women/mothers are so undervalued that we have to worry about saving hours to use when we need to birth a child.

But also lucky that my company offers 1 month of paid leave at 100% and a state (California) where we have some partially paid leave available.

  • @stephanie123456 yes and no, but not for maternity leave. I need some saved for when I return due to snow (I won’t drive in it) and sick kids. I also plan in taking a week off for
moving purposes, so my time dwindles fast.

  • @cmbt2 once a week. This only happens when our usually schedule is disrupted. For example since MIL is here this week I went to the gym without him and then went home when normally we would go to therapy from the gym. I think last time was the Monday after thanksgiving or Christmas, I forget now which one, but DH was off work so that threw things off.

  • I'm Canadian but now live/work in the US. While I miss the opportunity to spend more time at home (both reimbursed and protected), I don't miss donating 55% to federal/provincial income tax and 15.5% GST and sales tax.
  • @grapeskittles4lyfe that photo sounds adorable. I always say if I actually could choose I would love to have 3 girls and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy, do you get that reaction too?
  • @stephanie123456 I've thought about how many sick days and PTO I've got too. Luckily, my firm's fiscal year starts October 1st, so if everything goes well the new year (with all refreshed leave days) will be when baby arrives. Also, luckily bonus cut off is Oct. 1st too, so I'm hoping to make that too.

Well, nobody knows that we wanted three kids, most people think our family planning is done. But SO is definitely gunning for a boy this time. One of the J13 moms from my other BMB has 4 girls and while 4 is definitely too much for me I love love love their pictures.

  • So, despite making an offer over asking we still didn’t get the house we liked. There were two other offers and someone else outbid us. Here’s hoping that another gem of a house comes along. Our current two bedroom is technically enough for a second child in the short term but certainly not forever.

It it also looks like I am working from home today since my son has a 102 F. Poor kid and poor me as I will now be hosting a conference call with 10 people from my cell phone.
  • @geminigirl16 I’m so sorry! Housing hunting is hard but I just know your perfect house is still out there. Hoping your little gets better quickly!
  • @grapeskittles4lyfe We are the opposite. Have two boys and I am secretly hoping this one is a girl. But I have a friend with three boys and the pictures of them together are so. damn. cute. that now I’m like—maybe I do want three boys 🤔
