What did/will you serve at bday party?

I am struggling what to serve at C's bday party. It is at 4 in the afternoon and the only thing I have so far is my sister is bringing a honeybaked ham and doing a sandwich board type of thing. Of course we will have cake and ice cream but what else? I am at a loss, I wish our families liked pizza - this would be so much easier.

  • 4:00 is a tricky time.  Unless you just want to have a lot of food I think you could get a way with just cake/icecream and maybe something easy like chips and dip.  It's too late for lunch but kinda early for dinner.  Or you could do something like  chicken fingers and a pasta salad.

  • we had BBQ catered so we had sides with it too.  sorry I'm no help.

  • if you are serving ham you could do mac & cheese, pasta salad, potato salad, fruit, veggie platter w/dip, chips, etc.
  • not sure if you are a good cook or even like too, but there is a pasta salad called Suddenly Pasta which is really easy to make and really yummy. its a great side dish. I think for a party at that time, sandwiches and sides would be good, nothing too heavy though since it is so close to dinner time

  • We did small yummy pizzas from a pasta place, pasta salad, meatballs, and a fruit display. sandwiches are a good choice with a veggie platter.

  • We had ours from 4-6 pm.  We rented a room at the Smynra Community Center, so it made it hard if I wanted to cook and transport food etc.  Also, her party was right after the holidays so I didn't have the time to cook even if I wanted.   We ended up getting it catered by Maggiano's, we got 5 different trays of pasta, salad, and bread.  They delivered it and set it up which was worth the expense to me not to have to worry about it.  Also, Olive Garden and Carrabba's do party pasta trays which are cheaper, but they do not deliver. If we had done it mid-day, I was thinking of chik-fil-a platters or something along that or sandwiches.  We also had cake and cupcakes and drinks too.

  • For Grant's 1st birthday we grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, with pasta salad, coleslaw, chips, baked beans and fruit along with ice cream and cake. For his second birthday I was 9 months pg (his party was my due date) so we ordered pizza's and had cake and ice cream. Both were nice.

  • We are doing Gavin's at 2 pm- so also kind of a weird time, but I thought it would best with his nap schedule so maybe he'll wake up and be in a good mood!  We are just doing a few appetizer type things- not really sure what yet.  Maybe a party tray or two from Chickfila, some chips and dip, whatever looks good at BJ's that week!  Then of course cake and ice cream.  I'm actually trying to keep this on the small side b/c we have a ton of family and these things tend to get out of hand and really expensive if you're not careful.  Basically, I know they'll all just be happy to see him smash his cake so I'm not too worried!

  • We actually did lasagna, salad and breadsticks. It was setup buffet style and worked great. Looking back now I guess it wad kind of a weird thing to serve but I think it worked out fine. I think the chik fil a platter is also a good idea or a chicken tender platter and cheese and cracker platter from publix.
  • We did Chick Fil A and it was a big hit!
