Product Spotlight: Nursery Decor and Furniture

Re: Product Spotlight: Nursery Decor and Furniture

  • @maggiemadeit congratulations!!!
We moved when DS was almost 2, and worried a lot, but it went fine in the end. I loved painting and decorating his room (never did in the first house because we knew we wanted to sell it soon). Just take your time to pack and plan in advance. The baby will most probably not notice the change at all.

  • @maggiemadeit Congratulations!! That’s so exciting!
  • @maggiemadeit it’s probably a lot easier than moving with a toddler will be. I had a friend of mine come help me unpack, which made it quicker and easier. Regardless, it takes twice as long to unpack as without a baby. I find that babies become much more aware of their surroundings at 4 months, so getting them settled in their room/crib by then made for a really smooth transition for us.

@catlady2015 we reused an old ikea dresser for DD (6 drawer wide malm) and honestly it is holding up just fine. We’re getting another ikea dresser for this LO (hemnes, which I think is a little nicer).

    Congrats @maggiemadeit!!

  • Congrats @maggiemadeit! We moved when my oldest was 8 weeks and it was fun setting up the nursery at the new house once he was here and I had a better idea what I needed. As far as tips for moving with a newborn, I did a lot before he was born. Anything gifted to us that was for after the itty bitty stage (0-3 months or so) just stayed in the boxes and right into storage and I tried keeping things organized by age and season... We weren't sure when exactly we would be in the new house so I needed a system for finding stuff fairly easily.

On the actual moving day my mom helped by watching the baby so I could help. Give yourself some Grace with unpacking. It will take longer with an infant, but everything does I suppose! Good luck!!
  • @lelkcot So pretty!!! Love your nursery colors!

  • @kristimh80 thanks! They’re largely inspired by tying DS nursery colors (because we’re too cheap to replace the PB curtains and DH refuses to paint) into something cute for baby girl.
  • @lelkcot I don't blame you there! PB curtains aren't cheap...I'd be doing the same thing! :) I looked at those kind of flowers when I was 1st trying to figure out what I was doing, your nursery will be so cute!

  • @kristimh80 they aren’t, but the do a darn good job both blocking light and helping insulate the room - we have single pane windows and those curtains make a huge difference in the temperature of the kids rooms (we’re too cheap to have them anywhere else 😳)!
I’m hoping I can figure out a cute arrangement on the wall for the flowers, I’m not most creative!
  • @kristimh80 @lelkcot Ok, I asked the Google and I'm not sure it helped me. What are PB curtains? Google says 'Pottery Barn curtains' but from the context it sounds like you're talking about blackout curtains? Or are you talking about curtains specifically from Pottery Barn?

@mayoduck Yes, PB = Pottery Barn. And yes, curtains :)
On that note, I will say I got some in from Amazon today and like them better than the one's I was looking at PB and a fraction of the price and are blackout. Not sure if you are looking or not.

  • The pillowfort brand at target also makes really nice blackout curtains. I have them in both kids’ rooms now and they are much better than the expensive ones I got from land of nod (now crate&kids).

  • @kristimh80 Ok, thank you for clarifying! We have a few blackout curtains, all ordered from Amazon and we really like them. Darker colors do best for blocking out the light.
  • @mayoduck yep, sorry! Pottery barn blackout curtains, have them for DS’s room and the nursery. I tried to find something less expensive when we did DS’s big boy room, but ended up returning both other options and going with the pottery barn blackout curtains again.
