Fit Friday (Saturday/Sunday?) 12/28

Hey, ladies!

I feel the need for more accountability with all this holiday junk food still laying around. I’m resurrecting the Fit Friday thread!  I know it’s almost Saturday for most of us, so let’s not be too picky 😉 about days, shall we?

Tell us all...

- What did you do this last week to keep moving?
- What are you planning on doing this coming week?
- How have you been doing with water intake/nutrition lately?
- What is the biggest battle you are facing when it comes to exercise this pregnancy so far?
- GTKY: What workout/exercise is 100% completely intimidating to you but you still would love to try, if you could talk yourself into it?

Re: Fit Friday (Saturday/Sunday?) 12/28

  • - What did you do this last week to keep moving? I’ve been on skis Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, and today this week but I’m instructing so I’m not really getting a workout in 😞 but at least I’m moving!
    - What are you planning on doing this coming week? I have two more days on skis and then after New Years I’m hoping I’ll be able to get to the gym a couple days in the morning before school starts back up again Jan. 7th.
    - How have you been doing with water intake/nutrition lately? Horribly! I am trying to drink enough water but it’s hard out on the snow with clients because I don’t want to drink a cup of water and have to pee a run afterward. They pay a lot for lessons and I feel I really need to cater to their needs and not my bladder. I also have sucked at meal planning (totally bumping when I should be working out what to eat for dinner tomorrow before I’m gone all day again)...
    - What is the biggest battle you are facing when it comes to exercise this pregnancy so far? Time and potty training! It’s a combo problem. I really don’t have much time to get things done and when I do I’m responsible for DS. I should just take him to the daycare at the gym, but I don’t want him to feel bad about himself if he wets his pants in a chaotic daycare space. I know I could put him in pull-ups or something, but he’s just been so good without them lately! I’m thinking I’ll bite the bullet and attempt it this week. FX
    - GTKY: What workout/exercise is 100% completely intimidating to you but you still would love to try, if you could talk yourself into it? CrossFit! It looks so cool and people seem to get great results but I feel like I’m totally a wuss and wouldn’t succeed the way I’d like as quickly as I’d like.

  • - What did you do this last week to keep moving?
one prenatal Pilates class and one trip to the gym.

    - What are you planning on doing this coming week?
one prenatal Pilates class (I love them and it feels like so much more of a workout! They are just expensive!), hopefully two trips to the gym, and committing to getting my steps up much more than this week.  I’ve been extremely lazy with the holidays and haven’t been commuting to work.

    - How have you been doing with water intake/nutrition lately?
Fine on water intake, terrible on nutrition.  I’ve been getting healthy foods in but am also eating too much crap.  I need to cut back on sweets.

    - What is the biggest battle you are facing when it comes to exercise this pregnancy so far?
Finding time to do it.  Compared to my last pregnancy when moving/doing any kind of exercise was near impossible because my body just couldn’t handle it, I don’t actually have a hard time doing (relatively gentle) workouts.  I just don’t have time now because I have kids.  And the weather is gross so I don’t want to take long walks outside which would usually be a way for me to sneak in some activity.

    - GTKY: What workout/exercise is 100% completely intimidating to you but you still would love to try, if you could talk yourself into it?
ive never been to a spin class like Flywheel/Soul Cycle before and would really like too, but I’m totally intimidated by the shoes and clipping in and all the people who are SO into it!
  • @MaggieG183 we are in the midst of potty training here too. Finally had a breakthrough this week where he is actually asking to go. I am struggling though with what to do when we are out and about because I can’t lift him on to the toilet seat.

@anonellis I love spinning! Best workouts of my life were on a spinning bike. I remember the classes being intimidating at first, but sometimes you just have to go for it. Dh and I are actually getting ourselves a spinning bike (used) for the house so that we can use online classes and do them at home (i just don’t have time to get to the gym).

What did you do this last week to keep moving?
I managed to walk with the dog a little over 2 miles every night.

    - What are you planning on doing this coming week?
We are travelling the next 3 days but i am hoping to stay on track with walking when i get back. My goal is 10,000 steps and a walk with the dog everyday.

    - How have you been doing with water intake/nutrition lately?
Water intake isn’t bad when I’m home or at work, but I always forget to bring water out and about and that’s when I don’t get enough. Nutrition has been terrible, but once the holidays are over I plan to get back on track. Baby craves fried foods all the time! Thankfully dh got me an air fryer for Hanukkah and it is definitely helping to make those cravings a little healthier. We made deep fried pickles the other day and they were amazing!

    - What is the biggest battle you are facing when it comes to exercise this pregnancy so far?
one is time. Working full time, then having two kids to feed and play with in the evening (not to mention sports and activities). Means I don’t get to walk the dog until after 8:30 most nights. by that time I am usually lucky to still have my eyes open, but lately I’ve just been forcing myself to do it and feeling so much better because of it.

The other issue is pelvic rest. I was on pelvic rest for 8 weeks, off for 2, and now I’m back on pelvic rest again. This really limits my options to walking (I ran/jogged until 7 months with ds2 and did tons of prenatal workouts), and I miss the intensity of higher impact exercise. Plus since I can only do light exercise like walking I have to devote a lot more tome to it, which I don’t really have.

    - GTKY: What workout/exercise is 100% completely intimidating to you but you still would love to try, if you could talk yourself into it?
i like the idea of taking an aerobics class but I am so uncoordinated in those types of situations that I think I would just embarrass myself
  • - What did you do this last week to keep moving?
two OTF classes and one prenatal yoga class
    - What are you planning on doing this coming week?
hopefully the same. Walking outside has been difficult due to icy conditions.
    - How have you been doing with water intake/nutrition lately?
not as well as I’d like to be!
    - What is the biggest battle you are facing when it comes to exercise this pregnancy so far?
having energy leftover to do everything else that needs to get done. But I really want to keep my weight in check since I still have 20lbs leftover from #1
    - GTKY: What workout/exercise is 100% completely intimidating to you but you still would love to try, if you could talk yourself into it?
the aerial circus stuff with the silks hanging from the ceiling

  • - What did you do this last week to keep moving? Nothing! Ugh! But I literally just did 2 different pregnancy strength videos and that felt fantastic!
    - What are you planning on doing this coming week? I want to continue the strength videos and I'd really like to get back to swimming. It's been hard between colds and just finding time
    - How have you been doing with water intake/nutrition lately? I've been doing much better with the water intake, but those Christmas cookies and other sweets have really done me in.
    - What is the biggest battle you are facing when it comes to exercise this pregnancy so far? Finding time. I'm a triathlete and got my IUD out the day after I finished my first half ironman, so it was a nice break from all the training, but now I'm not forcing myself to find time for working out.
    - GTKY: What workout/exercise is 100% completely intimidating to you but you still would love to try, if you could talk yourself into it? I think Aerial silks are so cool, but look scary! I don't think I'd ever try it while pregnant lol I've been wanting to try paddle boarding or Bogafit. Maybe this summer!
  • @MaggieG183 I wouldn't recommend trying CrossFit now, but don't let it intimidate you when you're ready to try after baby comes! It's such a community and welcoming to any and all skill levels. I've done it (off and on, but really consistently the last 2+ years) for 7 years and it's really tough for me to do anything else anymore. I just love it!!! This is from this morning when we, collectively as a box, did 2019 tire flips! It took 3 miles and 2.5 hours 😆

  • Just got cleared for yoga!! After 11 weeks of not being able to do anything but light walking, I'm so excited!!! Anyways, don't have enough to fill everything out but hoping to participate in these if we keep doing them. I was very active last pregnancy and just want to go on a run or to Barre but I'll take what I can get 😁

  • Had my prenatal yoga class today and it was great! The studio was closed last week for the holidays, but I was so glad to be back today. Pigeon pose for my left hip was a killer, but it eventually eased up. I used to do yoga all the time about 10+ years ago and haven't been going or working out at home. I really miss how good it feels to be moving and stretching.
  • Nice work, ladies!! I will try to remember to post again on Friday this week too. I have just been soooooo forgetful lately. I’d 100% lose my head if it weren’t attached 😂

@imrachellea I’m totally down for a CrossFit class when this pregnancy is over....I think. I have so many friends who swear by it. I feel like I already have the workout/endurance for an intense session like that built up, but I’d rather play it safe than sorry when it comes to starting something new during this pregnancy, just in case. Plus my doc might kill me...I mean I’m already skiing on a regular basis without doc’s recommendation (not because of health, but because they are worried about a random Joe Schmo from Texas running into me on the slopes). Regardless, I’m so impressed that you are continuing with it right now!! Such a beast! Love it!

I know you're a grown woman and can make your own decisions, but please be careful @maggieg183 while you're skiing! both my SIL's and I have gotten taken out by either the crappy skiier from Texas (or NJ or Long Island), or by a-hole kids not paying attention. I also had a coworker who locally raced and skiied all the time (he was very good). 3 weeks after retirement, he was standing still waiting for a friend on the side of a tra and got taken out by someone out of control and is now paralyzed from the chest down. It seems it is like always the other people who suck who hurt you when skiing!
  • @knarlytaurus I am being incredibly mindful on the slopes. Thank you for being nervous for me; I appreciate the life-check at times as I can be overly confident in those around me.

One thing that plays in my favor is that I am skiing at a private ski hill. Literally, people must have $3 mil in liquid assets just to be considered as a potential member. Due to this, the trails are almost completely empty, even on busy weekends/vacation times. Even when they aren’t, the trails that are “more congested” are easily avoidable. My clients prefer to ski on less busy trails as they tend to be highly worried about other skiers as well. Makes for easier lessons but also helpful in the long run with this pregnancy.
