Re: Unpopular Opinion 12/27/18

  • Oh man. @mcewen3 Where does one get Kinder advent calendars? I am very picky about my chocolate, but I’ve always loved Kinder.

Also, I’m definitely more of a cat person, but I have no desire to own a pet. Kids are enough work and expensive enough on their own. I am not a fan of dogs at all. Their smell alone just makes me gag. And the thought of being slobbered over is just ick.

  • @jarethinafrock I saw them everywhere this year.  DH just picked them up at Walmart.  HOWEVER, we live in Canada.  Day 24 had a Kinder Surprise egg, so maybe they weren’t available in the U.S. Aren’t Kinder Surprises banned down there?

  • @mcewen3 I think the kinder eggs that they have everywhere else are banned  but I think they make a specific one for us markets (at least I've been seeing them sold around in stores). That may make the advent calendar unsellable here.
  • @mcewen3 ah, that probably explains why i haven’t seen any... :) yeah, in the US, they have this poor excuse for a kinder egg called Kinder Joy. It’s so messy and just not as good as the regular egg.

  • America: kids might choke on toys, Kinder Eggs banned.
Also America: kids die during school shootings but guns don't kill people, people kill people, so guns are fine.

Sorry not sorry for getting political. It IS UO after all 🤷
This meme flies around my FB all the time, particularly after a shooting and always makes me shake my head.  I was honestly beyond shocked when I found out that Kinder Eggs were banned in the U.S.  Especially since Canada typically has much more stringent standards when it comes to baby/kid stuff (like, baby walkers are banned here, different bassinet type things are not available because they don’t meet Cdn safe sleep standards, etc etc) but I can’t say I’ve ever heard of a choking incident with a Kinder Egg, and if it did happen ppl probably wouldn’t make a big deal out of it because it was likely user error.  Like, don’t give a Kinder Egg to a baby.  They’re for 3+ (I think) for a reason.  Just like LEGO and other small toys that are readily available everywhere.
