Re: What are you watching, reading, and listening to? - December 2018

  • Forgot my current read: It's super interesting, but I'm having a hard time picking up the books these days. I don't know why! (Sorry the pic is HUGE)

  • @kvh22 exactly. I've read so many different articles that mention them and debunk them, but it seems like a pretty strong coincidence to me. I would never discourage someone else from doing it, but it's a real concern for me this time. I know WAY more now so I feel a lot better taking baby home regardless of what we do, both medically and being a STM but it was a lot of stress I don't want to go through again and with a 5 year old.

I almost bought a google home hub for my kitchen, (mainly wanted it to watch tv) but then I realized it only plays youtube. It's awesome that the Echo plays hulu, i wonder if it does Amazon as well? It seems like it should be compatible. I hate mixing and matching things though. We have so much google stuff, I don't want to mix in Alexa and others.

  • @kvh22 I just pre-ordered Cribsheets and I will definitely look up that other book you mentioned.
Now that I finished Expecting Better, I'm reading Ida May's Guide to Childbirth (a midwife's take on childbirth). I'm noticing a theme to my reading choices lately.

damn, now I totally want one. I need to get over my fear of mingling brands of smart devices. Or wait til google home hub comes out with a reasonable update.

  • @knarlytaurus you're a few months ahead of me with my last pregnancy reading but those are all on my bookshelf (or in my audible downloads) lol. I took Ina May's with a grain of salt as there were some obvious exaggerations in stats - high-risk women wouldn't be cleared to give birth anywhere but a hospital so I don't care what your numbers of people transferred to a hospital are if you can't compare it to the broader population or at least provide a clarification so it isn't so misleading. It's still one of those books I feel like everyone should read, though, I just know I needed a NICU nurse on hand at my delivery for something as simple as meconium. I also read/have the womenly art of breastfeeding which I didn't read cover to cover but it serves as a good reference/troubleshooting guide.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds in Expecting Better, the author reviews the scientific literature to see what studies have been done well and what they tell us. For delayed cord clamping, she says there appears to be a benefit to babies born before 37 weeks (increase in red blood cells and iron outweighs the potential downside of bilirubin and jaundice). She said that the more recent literature doesn't show too much benefit to full term babes, but showing still a benefit as alo g as jaundice isn't a concern., and understanding that jaundice is a more likely result.
  • @knarlytaurus thank you. I wish I'd done more research the first time regarding full term/pre term. I sincerely wonder if that had anything to do with it. He was 5 days late, so very full term.

But realistically, he's just one of those kids that if it can happen medically, it will. He's just had it all. And I feel bad for the doctors sometimes because they have made comments, like that doctor with the jaundice saying there was no way his numbers would be 20 only 16 hours later, that for MOST are completely accurate, but Colin really liked to prove them wrong. Doctors telling me "it's just a cold, it might get a little worse before it gets better, but there's no reason to admit him" and then he's in the ICU 2 days later. He just really likes to test those medical theories 😂 I'm really really hoping this baby is more cooperative and follows the crowd in that regard. I may talk to my ob and if he's preterm, I'll delay and if not I probably won't.
  • @sleepy33 how do you get yours to play Netflix? I haven't been able to make that work...

  • @robyn2201 Those are all my shows too! Hoping they all make it to another season before I get too invested!

@ElleJDubs I started Outlander this weekend!!! It is so good so far! I can't stop watching!
  • @brie_and_almonds I just downloaded it as an app like any of the others, I guess? I don't think I did anything special. I can look more closely when I get home, I honestly don't remember the details of setting it up that much.

  • Haven't had much time for either lately, but if you haven't watched it, Ozarks on Netflix is good.
  • @sleepy33 hm... maybe you have a different one than I do... is your device an echo show, or something else?

  • @brie_and_almonds it's an Echo Dot I think?

I'm reading Pregnancy Day by Day. Even thought this is my third pregnancy, I always love to read what's happening now with my body and the baby.

  • Just started 'An Innocent Man' on Netflix. Based on the only nonfiction book that John Grisham wrote. I'm obsessed with true crime/wrongful conviction stuff though.

  • @lovelybabybumpz YES! I cannot wait to start that one- I was just reading about it, In fact, I am thinking about starting it right now as I work from home.
  • @chloe97
This is an "us" show, so it will take longer for me to finish it, since I have to wait for DH and can't just binge it when he's out. You should totally start it now!

  • I just pulled up Netflix to look up an innocent man, but saw Fuller House Season 4 is up, so that's happening 😂
  • I saw the trailer for Roma on Netflix this weekend and it's definitely on my list. It's got great buzz and I love Alfonso Cuaron.

  • I feel like this show just gets cheesier and cheesier every season 😂 full house was cheesy, but not the same.
  • I just started watching salt fat acid heat on Netflix and I recommend NOT watching the fat episode (Italian cuisine), because it's all stuff we can't eat right now and I'm just so craving it all!
  • And do not watch the salt episode. They bust out sashimi which I am craving so so so much lately.
  • Just started reading "The Feed" this morning (different from "Feed" which I read several years ago). It's pretty interesting so far... I was almost late to work this morning because I was sitting on the floor in my closet reading 😆

  • @lovelybabybumpz OMG Innocent Man is sooooo good. I managed to binge the first 3 last night. DH was annoyed with me b/c it's a "me" show and he kept walking in to see if I would turn Mrs Maisel on, but I just couldn't get myself to turn it off. I feel like this show makes itself a binge show by ending each episode with a new twist in the case!
  • @brie_and_almonds just placed a hold on the audiobook at the library. The reviews sound good!
  • @knarlytaurus that one has been on my list. What Italian food can we not eat?!

  • @sleepy33 All sorts of sausages and wine. They were eating all sorts of amazing salumi and I'm just craving prosciutto!
  • Netflix Movies - Fundamentals of Caring & Dumplin'

Netflix TV Show - The Great Interior Design Challenge

Baby Dad's Collection TV Show - Avatar The Last Airbender
  • Somehow managed to finish Fuller house already.. It went by fast and I was so sad when the whole series just started over and I realized I'd watched the last episode 😭.

H and I are in the process of watching the Good Doctor. I love it, but also cannot stand the inaccuracies of medical shows. I miss being ignorant to it all but now I know I annoy the shit out of H. I'll just be sitting there whispering "they can't do that" "omg that would never happen" and one time screaming "WHY ARE YOU SHOCKING HER?! DO CPR!!!" I was losing my shit during that episode. But I like the show overall 😂
  • @knarlytaurus my DH and I had a trip to Italy planned for March 2019 before we found out I was pregnant. We cancelled because I couldn't bear to go and not eat all the meats and drink all the wine!
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I LOVE Good Doctor! It gives me so many feels.

  • Anyone reading Liane Moriarty’s newest book Nine Perfect Strangers. It just came off hold at the library and I’m trying to find time to read it. I love her books!
  • @chloe97 I'm going to try to buy it and read it soon! I've read every single other book of hers.

@cwell2016 I can totally understand! So many delicious things, but so many things pregnant women can't have (or at least according to the US recommendations).
When you're in Italy, do you get to follow the recommendations from Europe?
  • @DuchessOfCambridge @eatinwatermelonseeds I cry nearly every episode! How are we supposed to wait another month to watch a be episode?!?
