- How far along? EDD? 24 weeks 3 days today! I feel like time is FLYING.
- How are you feeling this week? Overall feeling really good still, though the hip pain at night is still annoying. Some night the pillow helps, other nights it doesn't.

- Rants/Raves/Questions? No real rants or raves this week... but question for anyone who has either done a VBAC or is considering one (or just happens to know a lot about this): does the risk of rupture/complications go down with the amount of time that passes? I ask because at my OB appointment Thursday we talked a little about my plans, and I said I'd like to try for a VBAC if possible. So my OB went over the risks, said that if there aren't complications it can be just fine (sort of a "duh" statement? ha) but then mentioned that one of the concerns is with previous C-sections, the scar could rupture. So I asked him if that risk went down with time at all and he sort of shrugged and said, "Not really" - which doesn't seem to make sense to me?? So I was just curious what others have heard/know about this.
- Any upcoming appointments? Next OB appointment is January 3, and I'll do the 1-hour glucose screen then and have a growth ultrasound as well - so that'll be a jam-packed appointment!
- GTKY: Any special holiday plans / traditions this year? Christmas Eve we usually do at my father-in-law's house, but we are doing that on the 23rd this year so I'd like to do something fun as a family on Christmas Eve (though my husband probably has to work so we'll see how that goes). And then Christmas morning, my family comes over and we do gifts around the tree & breakfast. Then we have Christmas dinner at my parents' house with my dad's side of the family, and it's always so nice. We do a secret Santa with my cousins and it's usually a really fun time!
Bump picture from last week.@bkatp Yes, they prefer you to sleep on your side. I'm a back sleeper also so has been a challenge. Best side is your left one to sleep on as it helps circulate blood flow better. As the baby gets bigger, it's more of an issue so you don't lower circulation & nutrients.

How are you feeling this week?
Heavy, but overall really good.
Rants/Raves/Questions?
Anyone starting childbirth classes soon? I just registered us for a set of 5 classes starting in January. They're taught by a nurse at the hospital where I will deliver. They have a special one-afternoon class for dads so I signed DH up for that too
Any upcoming appointments?
OB check-up yesterday, which was very quick (doppler, BP, weight, that's it!). Also did glucose test, so I'm hoping to get good results from that.
GTKY: Any special holiday plans / traditions this year?
My sister and her family are coming up for xmas for the first time in a long time. We have a ton of family stuff planned. I get two weeks off over the holiday, so will be a good time to paint the nursery and start decorating too.
@bkatp I'm also a back sleeper but I've been trying to adjust to side sleeping. I put a pillow between my knees and wedged a bit beneath my butt, which makes it harder to roll onto my back.
Here's an article that helps put this in perspective. TL;DR: Back sleeping is associated with a very small increased risk of late stillbirth (probably from compressing a vein that runs by the uterus, when your uterus starts to get heavier later in pregnancy). However, this contributes a small fraction to something that is already really rare, so don't panic if you wake up on your back. Just putting a pillow under your right side to tilt you off your back a bit removes the risk.

@northbeach3 congratulations on the good results and on having a baby girl. So your doctor was right. My husband wanted a girl so bad, he was disappointed for like 5 minutes but back to normal after 15 min. Even if your husband is disappointed it won’t last long.
uterusdreams I think my appt is on the same exact day as yours and also a glucose, growth scan and regular OBGYN appt. I was considering VBAC too because I hated the c-section recovery. I mean there were no complications but hated the restrictions. But then re-thought it again and looks like were doing a scheduled C-section now. Love your bump! So cute!
bkatp I try to sleep on my side, lay on my side even on the couch always while pregnant just because I heard, read to do this but no idea if you really HAVE to.
northbeach3 congrats on your NIPT test. That’s awesome news! And your trip sounds amazing. Where do you live now? And awesome news about a girl!! Girls are awesome! My DH was a tad disappointed to have the girl. Now we have a girl and he actually can’t imagine having a boy now and was hoping for a girl this time too. We’re having a boy. He’s happy but so funny how he went from disappointed to so much love for her!
scikap I never took birth classes mostly because we just didn’t have the time for it but I would’ve liked to. Somehow I managed anyway but asked the nurses when I was ready to push how do I do this?? Lol. They told me in one minute and we were in business. Unfortunately, my daughter was too big and wouldn’t come out.
so i wanted to surprise the DH with a onesie that said "daddy's little girl" but couldn't find anything close at target and i was already off work way late... so i just bought a thoughtful card that discussed being glad to "share the journey" with him. i wrote a letter thanking him for his support through the IVF journey... then i joked that i was glad he was accepting and loved me as a "strong independent woman" (it's a whole thing... my female colleagues and i can definitely be a bit much in terms of our rampant feminist ideals -- LOL). so then i said "i know you'll be a great daddy and love your TWO strong, independent women". (and just in case... drew and arrow to turn the card over "P.S."....---> "IT'S A GIRL").
So i'm watching him read it in bed and then the "two strong independent women" doesn't seem to register with him immediately, so he flips the card over and then says "OH!!!" and gives me a kiss. My DH is a bit sarcastic, so he says "well... i guess it'll be much easier until she hits middle school." (he's an assistant principal in an elementary school and used to teach middle schoolers. he says all the disruptive kids are boys. haha). He seemed excited, but i said I understood that he wanted a boy and said his mom would now have THREE grandaughters (no grandsons). He paused and said... "yeah, no one to carry on the family name". THen I joked, "Hey, maybe your daughter will want to keep her maiden name when she gets married" [b/c i kept my maiden name, but the kid will have DH's]... he laughed. We had some preliminary discussions about possible names and he seemed to be excited by them.

@Drove2u, we both have an exciting January 3 planned, then! Haha. And I guess we'll see where we land with the VBAC/C-section thing as we get a bit closer... I found out that through work I'm only allowed to use 4 weeks of sick time with a vaginal birth, but can use 6 weeks with a c-section - which sucks because they consider anything after those specified recovery times "baby bonding time" and don't allow it to be covered under sick time. So I guess if I do end up with a c-section I can use 2 extra weeks of sick time, but the recovery will be harder so that's not necessarily a "woohoo." Thankfully I can still take more time beyond that but I don't have a lot of vacation saved up so I was hoping to stretch out and use all of my sick time - so I'm annoyed that there's such a set limit on how much I can use. (Sorry, this turned into a sub-rant lol) Overall I'm really not opposed to a c-section and the idea of scheduling it really appeals to me, too - but part of me is like, come on, try for a VBAC! But then I'm also terrified of the idea of a vaginal birth because I've never done it and it seems so scary. Weird? lol
@uterusdreams i feel the same EXACT way as you. But..my first labor was 72 hours. And even though I would do it all over again, we just don't have that time. Meaning who's going to take care of my 2 year old for a week? We don't have that kind of consistent child care. And there's no guarantee that even if I did it vaginally I wouldn't get a 3rd or 4th degree tear. and ive heard of people who have had 3rd degree tears AND a csection would prefer c section over a third degree tear. It's a risk either way and you can't plan it THAT much. So i've been on the fence but I really do think a scheduled c section is the best for our family, even if it's not my #1 option.

AFM,
I just finished my second OB appointment it was Doppler, BP check and urine sample. They also drew my blood to check for some spinal cord abnormalities. They said it part 2 of NIPT tests. She said because of IVF I need to have level 2 scan for anatomy scan in 5 weeks, Which will be mid January
I had the same spinal cord abnormalities test. interesting about a level 2 anatomy scan. I never had one of those. but i'm so over tests at this point. lol.

@mrsyng yes my original due date was 5/31. I am still counting my weeks by that date. My hospital assigns a gynecologist who is available that day and they have 8 gynecologists. So most probably I don’t see the same doctor twice and so far that’s what happened. Some say keep 5/31 some say move it 5/27. I am ok either way cos I am it’s going to be some other date in reality
my OB said I would be a good candidate for a VBAC if I wanted to try- we are leaning toward a repeat Csection based on the complications that could arise and being able to schedule someone to watch our daughter.
