    • How far along? EDD? 24 weeks 3 days today! I feel like time is FLYING.
    • How are you feeling this week? Overall feeling really good still, though the hip pain at night is still annoying. Some night the pillow helps, other nights it doesn't.
    • Rants/Raves/Questions? No real rants or raves this week... but question for anyone who has either done a VBAC or is considering one (or just happens to know a lot about this): does the risk of rupture/complications go down with the amount of time that passes? I ask because at my OB appointment Thursday we talked a little about my plans, and I said I'd like to try for a VBAC if possible. So my OB went over the risks, said that if there aren't complications it can be just fine (sort of a "duh" statement? ha) but then mentioned that one of the concerns is with previous C-sections, the scar could rupture. So I asked him if that risk went down with time at all and he sort of shrugged and said, "Not really" - which doesn't seem to make sense to me?? So I was just curious what others have heard/know about this.
    • Any upcoming appointments? Next OB appointment is January 3, and I'll do the 1-hour glucose screen then and have a growth ultrasound as well - so that'll be a jam-packed appointment!
    • GTKY: Any special holiday plans / traditions this year? Christmas Eve we usually do at my father-in-law's house, but we are doing that on the 23rd this year so I'd like to do something fun as a family on Christmas Eve (though my husband probably has to work so we'll see how that goes). And then Christmas morning, my family comes over and we do gifts around the tree & breakfast. Then we have Christmas dinner at my parents' house with my dad's side of the family, and it's always so nice. We do a secret Santa with my cousins and it's usually a really fun time!
Bump picture from last week.

    • How far along? EDD? 15 weeks 3 days
    • How are you feeling this week? I am feeling more normal as each day passes.
    • Rants/Raves/Questions? I saw online that it is preferable to sleep sideways from starting of second trimester. Is that true ? I am able to sleep on my back with no issues
    • Any upcoming appointments? Regular ob/gyn appointment this wed
    • GTKY: Any special holiday plans / traditions this year? We have started on our decorations and hosting a Christmas potluck lunch
  • @uterusdreams nice bump picture !!
    • How far along? EDD? 17 + 5. 5-15
    • How are you feeling this week?  Good but have a headache - trying to drink more water
    • Rants/Raves/Questions?
    • Any upcoming appointments? Next appt 1/2 and waiting for the call to schedule my level 2 ultrasound.
    • GTKY: Any special holiday plans / traditions this year? No plans- just low key.
  • @uterusdreams You look so cute!! I agree, time really is flying! I told MH today...hmm we only have like 100 moe days, what the heck?

@bkatp Yes, they prefer you to sleep on your side. I'm a back sleeper also so has been a challenge. Best side is your left one to sleep on as it helps circulate blood flow better. As the baby gets bigger, it's more of an issue so you don't lower circulation & nutrients.

  • How far along? EDD?
    24 weeks, 1 day

How are you feeling this week?
    Heavy, but overall really good.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Anyone starting childbirth classes soon? I just registered us for a set of 5 classes starting in January. They're taught by a nurse at the hospital where I will deliver. They have a special one-afternoon class for dads so I signed DH up for that too :)

    Any upcoming appointments?
OB check-up yesterday, which was very quick (doppler, BP, weight, that's it!). Also did glucose test, so I'm hoping to get good results from that.

GTKY: Any special holiday plans / traditions this year?
My sister and her family are coming up for xmas for the first time in a long time. We have a ton of family stuff planned. I get two weeks off over the holiday, so will be a good time to paint the nursery and start decorating too.

@bkatp I'm also a back sleeper but I've been trying to adjust to side sleeping. I put a pillow between my knees and wedged a bit beneath my butt, which makes it harder to roll onto my back.
Here's an article that helps put this in perspective. TL;DR: Back sleeping is associated with a very small increased risk of late stillbirth (probably from compressing a vein that runs by the uterus, when your uterus starts to get heavier later in pregnancy). However, this contributes a small fraction to something that is already really rare, so don't panic if you wake up on your back. Just putting a pillow under your right side to tilt you off your back a bit removes the risk.

  • @kristimh80 @scikap thank you for the tips. I should start using them, every time I wake up I am on my back always.

@northbeach3 congratulations on the good results and on having a baby girl. So your doctor was right. My husband wanted a girl so bad, he was disappointed for like 5 minutes but back to normal after 15 min. Even if your husband is disappointed it won’t last long.
    • How far along? EDD? March 23
    • How are you feeling this week? Fine. Major constipation though. Lol I was like I’m so achy this and that. And then I took a laxative and feel so much better. Lol. The ‘aches’ went away.
    • Rants/Raves/Questions? I don’t think so? Just got back from Vancouver this week which is why I haven’t written. It was not fun traveling while 6 months pregnant. Mainly because I was running to catch my flights, had to pee so bad, was hungry etc. Kinda miserable. But the actual trip went well and got to visit with a friend after all the work stuff.
    • Any upcoming appointments? Not till the new year
    • GTKY: Any special holiday plans / traditions this year? Not really. Just hosting Christmas Eve for family. And we’ve been doing this holiday light show tour in a car which has been fun for the last 4 years so planning on doing that again.

uterusdreams I think my appt is on the same exact day as yours and also a glucose, growth scan and regular OBGYN appt. I was considering VBAC too because I hated the c-section recovery. I mean there were no complications but hated the restrictions. But then re-thought it again and looks like were doing a scheduled C-section now. Love your bump! So cute!

bkatp I try to sleep on my side, lay on my side even on the couch always while pregnant just because I heard, read to do this but no idea if you really HAVE to.

northbeach3 congrats on your NIPT test. That’s awesome news! And your trip sounds amazing. Where do you live now? And awesome news about a girl!! Girls are awesome! My DH was a tad disappointed to have the girl. Now we have a girl and he actually can’t imagine having a boy now and was hoping for a girl this time too. We’re having a boy. He’s happy but so funny how he went from disappointed to so much love for her!

scikap I never took birth classes mostly because we just didn’t have the time for it but I would’ve liked to. Somehow I managed anyway but asked the nurses when I was ready to push how do I do this?? Lol. They told me in one minute and we were in business. Unfortunately, my daughter was too big and wouldn’t come out.

  • @Drove2u i live in las vegas. but we live in a neighborhood away from the Strip. haha - lots of people wonder how you "live" in las vegas... you actually never have to go near the Strip if you never want to. (but me and the DH actually do enjoy a "night on the town" every once and awhile).  So all of the fancy casinos get all decked out for the holidays... so there's tons to see and do. :)

so i wanted to surprise the DH with a onesie that said "daddy's little girl" but couldn't find anything close at target and i was already off work way late... so i just bought a thoughtful card that discussed being glad to "share the journey" with him. i wrote a letter thanking him for his support through the IVF journey... then i joked that i was glad he was accepting and loved me as a "strong independent woman"  (it's a whole thing... my female colleagues and i can definitely be a bit much in terms of our rampant feminist ideals -- LOL).  so then i said "i know you'll be a great daddy and love your TWO strong, independent women".   (and just in case... drew and arrow to turn the card over "P.S."....---> "IT'S A GIRL").

So i'm watching him read it in bed and then the "two strong independent women" doesn't seem to register with him immediately, so he flips the card over and then says "OH!!!" and gives me a kiss. My DH is a bit sarcastic, so he says "well... i guess it'll be much easier until she hits middle school." (he's an assistant principal in an elementary school and used to teach middle schoolers. he says all the disruptive kids are boys. haha).  He seemed excited, but i said I understood that he wanted a boy and said his mom would now have THREE grandaughters (no grandsons). He paused and said... "yeah, no one to carry on the family name".  THen I joked, "Hey, maybe your daughter will want to keep her maiden name when she gets married" [b/c i kept my maiden name, but the kid will have DH's]... he laughed.  We had some preliminary discussions about possible names and he seemed to be excited by them. :) I was a daddy's girl... so i think he'll definitely come around to the idea of a girl. :)

  • @northbeach3 congrats on your NIPT test results, woohoo! And girls are so much fun. :)

@Drove2u, we both have an exciting January 3 planned, then! Haha. And I guess we'll see where we land with the VBAC/C-section thing as we get a bit closer... I found out that through work I'm only allowed to use 4 weeks of sick time with a vaginal birth, but can use 6 weeks with a c-section - which sucks because they consider anything after those specified recovery times "baby bonding time" and don't allow it to be covered under sick time. So I guess if I do end up with a c-section I can use 2 extra weeks of sick time, but the recovery will be harder so that's not necessarily a "woohoo." Thankfully I can still take more time beyond that but I don't have a lot of vacation saved up so I was hoping to stretch out and use all of my sick time - so I'm annoyed that there's such a set limit on how much I can use. (Sorry, this turned into a sub-rant lol) Overall I'm really not opposed to a c-section and the idea of scheduling it really appeals to me, too - but part of me is like, come on, try for a VBAC! But then I'm also terrified of the idea of a vaginal birth because I've never done it and it seems so scary. Weird? lol

  • @northbeach3 I watch 90 day Fiance and one of the guys on there is from Vegas--outskirts--and his future wife was very disappointed that he didn't live on the strip. lol.

@uterusdreams i feel the same EXACT way as you. But..my first labor was 72 hours. And even though I would do it all over again, we just don't have that time. Meaning who's going to take care of my 2 year old for a week? We don't have that kind of consistent child care. And there's no guarantee that even if I did it vaginally I wouldn't get a 3rd or 4th degree tear. and ive heard of people who have had 3rd degree tears AND a csection would prefer c section over a third degree tear. It's a risk either way and you can't plan it THAT much. So i've been on the fence but I really do think a scheduled c section is the best for our family, even if it's not my #1 option.
  • Reading all of this makes me want to schedule a c-section! lol I've always been freaked out by the actual birth part as it is  :s

  • hahaha @kristimh80 no no. honestly if it's wasnt for worrying about child care i would NOT want a c-section. I would totally do labor all over again even if it took 72 hours. it was sooo worth it!! all of it!
  • Wow 72 hours is long @Drove2u My friend had similar experience after long hours of labor baby didn’t come out because his head was larger so they eventually had to do c section. She eventually had 3rd degree tears and c section.

    AFM,

I just finished my second OB appointment it was Doppler, BP check and urine sample. They also drew my blood to check for some spinal cord abnormalities. They said it part 2 of NIPT tests. She said because of IVF I need to have level 2 scan for anatomy scan in 5 weeks, Which will be mid January
  • bkatp oh geez. Right, see, you just never know what will happen during labor. but that's just double awful. I pushed for 3 hours and nothing was moving so I yelled to the nurses "C-section time" I had no tears but it sure was sore down there for awhile.
I had the same spinal cord abnormalities test. interesting about a level 2 anatomy scan. I never had one of those. but i'm so over tests at this point. lol.
  • @bkatp I had the level 2 anatomy scan....it was probably my favorite ultrasound so far. Usually, they are done at a MFM doctor so they take their time and really do in depth. I remb asking "are you sure I don't need to come back again"? lol I had it done twice b/c 1st was at 19 weeks and baby didn't act right so did again a couple weeks later and was amazed at how much better the 2nd one was.

@northbeach3 love your gender announcement for your husband.

    Cute baby bumps @Drove2u @kristimh80
    • How far along? EDD? 16wk 1d
    • How are you feeling this week? Still pretty fatigued in the afternoons. My energy seems to fluctuate very few days - i do ok then I get waves of exhaustion. Not enjoying it but manageable. I’ve also developed some pain/muscle tightness or whatever it may be in the past few days on the right side of my buttocks to my lateral thigh. Hopefully, it just needs more stretching?  Otherwise, I’ll have a conversation with my PT for some relief next week.
    • Rants/Raves/Questions?
    • Any upcoming appointments? Awaiting my call from the prenatal specialist for my anatomy scan!! Hopefully, I’ll hear from them by Friday.
    • GTKY: Any special holiday plans / traditions this year? Christmas breakfast and open presents at my moms house.

  • Love the bump pics ladies!! You all look great! @northbeach3 CONGRATULATIONS!! I wanted a girl really badly so I get being excited about it! @uterusdreams I don’t know why the risk of rupture would go down - I think (but could be wrong) that the actual risk is during labor itself. But, again maybe I’m wrong!

@kristimh80 yes I am waiting for that scan and for it to go well because I was planning on announcing it to my closer family after that scan. They scheduled me for that around mid January.

@mrsyng yes my original due date was 5/31. I am still counting my weeks by that date. My hospital assigns a gynecologist who is available that day and they have 8 gynecologists. So most probably I don’t see the same doctor twice and so far that’s what happened.  Some say keep 5/31 some say move it 5/27. I am ok either way cos I am it’s going to be some other date in reality
  • Great bumps @Drove2u and @kristimh80. I am starting to get a little bump but not photo worthy yet.  FInally scheduled my level II u/s- December 31. I am hoping all is good!

my OB said I would be a good candidate for a VBAC if I wanted to try- we are leaning toward a repeat Csection based on the complications that could arise and being able to schedule someone to watch our daughter.
  • @bpietronicco Exciting!! AS will be here before you know it! How many weeks are you now? I don't feel like I started showing until really this past month. Don't blame you about scheduling a c section esp if you had one before, it seems smart due to things that can some about. I'm a FTM and if my doctor gives me the option, I am leaning towards it for many reasons.

  • super cute bumps and dresses @Drove2u and @kristimh80!!  i'm hoping my bump reveals itself over the holidays while we're travelling... i want to come back to work next semester with a surprise! :)

still just my belly fat, though my one co-worker who does know "swears" she can see it after i wore a dress with spanx.  i told her the spanx was smoothing out my normal fat into a more bump-like shape. lol :)

  • @Drove2u @kristimh80 cute bumps I think it would take a while for me also to get that kind of bump. I am showing a little but I’ll have to point out that I am showing. People who don’t know can take it for fat. I guess I’ll be safe for another 5 weeks, let’s see
  • LOL I looked like I just had too many tacos for a long time!! It's weird, when it happens, all the sudden one day it's just there! Up til a couple weeks ago, MH was complaining some days that I didn't look pregnant. Even now, the size depends on how much water retention or if I ate not so good it tends to show more.

  • Finally got around to posting a bump pic! I agree @kristimh80 how big I lookreally depends on what I'm wearing and what I ate recently! This pic is maximum bump - just ate lunch and I'm wearing a tight shirt lol.
