STM+ Registry

STMs - for those who have a lot of things already from previous child(ren), what kinds of things are you planning to get or wishing/wanting for new baby?

Re: STM+ Registry

  • I've been debating a changing pad/scale combo but it's expensive. Also debating the Halo bassinet in case I have a RCS, but also expensive. I know I'll buy new clothes even if it's a boy because I have a problem. There's not really much else I can think of, but wondering what other people are wanting.

  • Loading the player...
  • Replacement nipples for our bottles
    New pacifiers
    A few fresh burp cloths
    Additional car seat mirrors
    Double stroller or sit-stand stroller
Stock up on fresh baby shampoo, lotion, buttpaste
We need another baby gate or two because we’ve remodeled our house since #1
May put some big kid stuff on the registry I set up mostly for the completion discount
    Probably a few new toys/books so #2 doesn’t have everything hand-me-down
  • Things I didn't get for DS but wish I had: sound machine (got one already), car seat canopy, boppy, tummy time mat (versus one that has him on his back). Otherwise we're pretty much starting from scratch and just getting similar stuff.
  • @minnemiska Your list pretty much encapsulates everything I’ve been thinking. Though I feel
like there are a lot of things that to know that you won’t know as a STM. In theory, we should be good on bottles, swaddles, rock and play, swing, play gym, etc, but I also know that just because DD did well with all of the things we have now, this LO May be completely different and hate all the things that DD loved.

We are actually more looking for stuff a big girl room for DD right now-trundle bed, dresser, night standing etc. Though I have bought 9 sleepers and 9 onesies. I actually thought at the time I’d be one and done and got rid of DDs Nb/3 month clothes. But since I’m having a boy, it really doesn’t matter anyway.

Also-are people doing registries as STM? I’m torn. I may do a private one that I will share with my mom and MIL to pass to people who ask. We barely had anything purchased off our registry for DD, so I feel like it’s a moot effort any way. I would love for someone to buy us the $600 double stroller that we want 🤣🤣
  • I'm doing a private one that I'll only share with people who ask, but it's mostly going to be for the completion discount. We kept all of the stuff DS hated just in case future kids will like it! I don't need a double stroller but I DO need the adaptor to make our single into a double. I forgot about that.

  • @chloe97 we will do a registry snd put everything on it just to get the discounts to complete it afterwards. I don’t plan to share it unless someone specifically asks.

We are 3 years between kids so still have a lot of the baby stuff but we need a few things:

    a new bucket car seat
    bottles
Basic baby necessities (shampoo, rash cream etc)
excersaucer (our old one was scuzzy so I threw it away)
highchair or some equivalent I hated the one we had and threw it out too (not anticipated a pregnancy any time soon lol)
    crib mattress protector
i am also anticipating the need of some clothes and halo sacks that are for warmer weather. The boys were both winter babies and everything newborn through 6 months is cold weather gear.
  • We need new newborn clothes (lots were ruined by spitup/diaper blowouts and the good stuff was given away), and a mamaroo/rock n play (regretting giving those away).  We may upgrade to something like a halo bassinet because I know I’m having a c section, but we have a regular bassinet still. Eventually we will need a new crib but I’m hoping not to have to get one for awhile.  My older kids are still in convertible cribs that I hope they stay in for a long time, but even if they start climbing out we’ll just convert them to toddler beds.  I also didn’t have a dock a tot last time and would like one this time.

I agree with others about the private registry for the completion discount. We live in a city where space is at a premium (hence we gave away so much baby stuff), so I have a feeling we’ll have plenty of friends willing to loan us a lot of this stuff (aka make us store it for them).
  • On our list of things to get is
    - a bassinet (we didnt use one with DS and I wish we had)
    - a new playpen
    - another crib mattress, protector and sheets
    - sound machine
    - a new breast pump
    - a double stroller
    - an extra carseat base for our bucket seat
And then some smaller things that we currently still use for DS like diapers, wipes, cream, bath stuff, etc.
  • There there will be six years between DS and the new baby, so I will be completely starting over. I have started a registry that’s mostly for me but I have shared with my MIL and friends who have asked
  • @chloe97 we are planning to transition our son to a big kid room too, but a little bit closer to May since we have a lot of work to do to clear out the room which is currently used as office/storage.

I forgot that I also plan to get a second baby monitor. Our bedroom is on the second floor, the kids’ rooms on the main so I will still want a monitor in each room. Baby will be in our room for the first 3-6 months but we may still use the nursery for naps.
  • I need to move into a new house and go get allll my baby stuff from my mom's basement to take stock of what I need. It's been so long, I have no idea what I still have, what she's given away, what size clothes I have in what season. I do think I'm gonna get a new travel system that has an infant seat and a sit n stand stroller.

  • Pretty much starting from scratch here too.  After DD2 was born we were so certain we were finished that I sold/gave things away as soon as we were done with them.  I do have a registry, but I’ll only share it with family.  My mom has a group of friends who buy a big group gift for every grandchild born into the group so ‘I hope’ she’ll share it with them rather than leaving them to their own devices but I’m not going to encourage it.
Since this is DEFINITELY our last baby this time, I’m not super interested in buying a ton of new stuff.  We’ll either get a used crib from friends of ours if they’re done with it, or buy an inexpensive IKEA one. I’m keeping my eyes peeled on the B/S/T pages for good condition used items too.
Splurges we didn’t have last time:

Nuna Leaf Curve.  Love that it’s not motorized and also that my older children won’t break it since it will fit them too

A better high chair.  I’ll get this used if I can find the right one but our first high chair was awful.  It was reasonably expensive and looked really nice but there were so many cracks and crevices that every day I was scraping it out with a butter knife.  Not practical.  I’d also like one with close to a full recline so baby can be up at the table with us during meals from a young age.

I’ve also been emailing all the car seat companies and think I’ve determined that both the Britax and Maxi-Cosi infant car seats will give me a fair bit extra shell height from my old Peg Perego.  I’d like to check them both out in stores since my first time around I found that I really disliked the Maxi-Cosi and the way it clipped into the base.  But yay!  Because this means either of these seats should get me through the whole winter with this new LO.

  • My daughter is 3 and will be moving out of her room and into a big girl room before the baby comes. We find out sex on Monday. If we are having a boy, I’ll get some sheets, wall hanging, etc to transition nursery to a boy room. We gave away all our newborn stuff to a friend who fostered an infant so we’ll have to replace that. Also, I want to get some new pump parts and storage bottles just because I’m not sure that stuff will hold up being in the hot/cold garage for 2-3 years. Other than that I don’t anticipate getting much else because we kept so much stuff with our first.

Anyone have tips for car seat canopy for warm weather? I had a winter baby last time so ours was a fleece blanket type cover.
  • We are doing a registry, but like others said it will be mostly for me to keep track of what we need to get and for the discounts.

    We need:
    Double stroller
    A carrier (probably a Tula)
    New pacifiers
    New bottle nipples
Better diaper bag (lmk if you love yours)
A second high chair or booster
Either a second crib or a bed for DD1
New nursing bras and tanks for me

@teesmee I bought a bumblito bee covered for the car seat this time after hearing good things about it. We had a winter baby last time too so this is all new!

    we need/have bought:

fisher price on the go dome
    a new baby bathrub
a new carrier (more of a want then a need haha)
    new pacifiers
    new bottle nipples
second crib or a bed for ds, depending on if he starts climbing out
    new high chair

thsts all I can think of for now... I’m sure other things will come up!

ETA fisher price sit me up seat!
  • I'm having twins so all I know is I'll need a double stroller with matching car seats, thousands of diapers, and gallons of formula. People are donating a ton of stuff to us too (who are done having kids) so we'll have extra baby-holding contraptions. My parents are giving us their old sectional couch so between that and getting a nice, thick rug for the floor we'll all be comfortable hanging out in the living room.
And of course we're going to need fresh bottles, nipples, teethers, and pacifiers. My friend is giving me all her old pumping supplies too since I gave most of mine away with my firstborn. So we're good :)
  • I need to get:
-a small infant bath (something compact to store
    -Clothes
    - a nose Frieda (My last FC came with one of these and it was amazing)
-Swaddlers and sleep sacks (has anyone heard of the Zen Swaddles - I saw them on a facebook ad this morning and was intrigued)
-I might get a new infant carseat if I find a good deal. Mine doesn't expire until July '20, but I hate the way the straps tighten on it.
    -Pacifiers
    -A hand pump
-I might get a bassinet, but will probably just find a used one.
    - I might replace a few cloth diapers in my stash.  After our last FC, I noticed the elastic was wearing out on a few, and if its a girl, I'd like a few sweet girl prints.
  • Our list is similar as many here. I'm making a private registry mostly for the completion discount.  We need:

    - a new crib with mattress and/or bed for DS;
    - a new bassinet (hoping to find this used);
    - double stroller;
    - clothes (regardless of sex, DS was an October baby);
    - an additional camera for our monitor;
    - high chair

Then we'll just need the incidentals - diapers, wipes, pacifiers, maybe some burp cloths, etc.

  • The only thing I know for sure we want is a halo bassinet. The list will definitely be longer if we find out we're having a girl at the anatomy scan. If we're having a boy though I have so many clothing items my son never wore because he was so big. I've also been picking up some newborn sized cloth diapers here and there since I never used that size with my son.
  • @fuscok88 are you afraid this baby will be even bigger? All my friends kids were bigger than the last. My son was 8.5lbs and 21.5 inches so barely on the cusp of the max in newborn clothes and I'm afraid to buy too many in case this guy is even bigger.
  • I did a registry on Amazon, but set it to private. It’s more so that I actually remember what we need to get 😂

    -bassinet
    -new diaper pail
    -sit&stand double stroller
    -new nipples and pacifiers
    -a second Hatch nightlight
    -a second convertible seat

thats all I have right now. I’m sure once baby is actually here I’ll be ordering more things that I didn’t think of.
  • @fatmonica I'm wracking my brain and can't figure out what FC means in your post.

@teesmee I had an August baby last time but living where I do in California, it rarely, if ever, dips below freezing, even overnight. I did buy one of those fleece zipper covers for the carseat for our trip to NH at Christmas but it was below freezing the entire 3 weeks we were there so used it like twice. The other 11 months of the year, I used nursing covers that fit over the carseat - just simple cotton ones although I have tons of patterns (I kind of have a problem lol). My favorite brand is Milk Snob - looks like they're at target and buy buy baby although I've always bought direct from their website when they're having a sale - I probably have 3 or 4 of theirs at least plus one from the carseat canopy company I got from a work shower. I also have one from Milkmaid Goods that I love.

I had a running list for baby #2 on Amazon before we even got pregnant that I just moved over to the registry when I created it. It's pretty similar to what others have said. Planning to use it for the completion discount and free gifts for registering. Will send to people if they ask but not expecting much since my shower was less than 2 years before this LO's due date and everyone was very generous.

I already bought our double stroller and a hiking backpack when they were on sale around Black Friday. Those were the two "big items" on my list (wanted the hiking backpack for DD so we can put this LO in the carrier we use for her).

    My registry has:
    • New bottles and milk storage cups for freezing milk
    • New manual pump (they do NOT last long IMO)
    • New diaper bag (I bought it on sale already - my current one was $35 and just not as functional long term plus it looks worn out after 15 months of use since it wasn't high quality)
    • New wubanubs
    • Books (lots, should have put more on my registry the first time although they aren't completion discount eligible on Amazon)
    • A couple of toys (like 3, total)
    • New digital thermometer
    • Another humidifier
    • Accessories for the stroller I bought (cup holder, child tray, car seat adapter)
    • Canvas book shelf
    • Need to add the baby essentials everyone's already mentioned (lotion, soap, etc.)
    • Potentially a new wrap - need advice from ladies here as I had 2 stretchy ones but people said the woven wraps were great - is it too early for that thread?

    Items for DD:
    • Bigger sleep sack that goes up to 3yrs (Woolino one which is $$$)
    • Booster seat (so we can use the current high chair for this LO when it's time to start solids)
    • Kid utensil sets
    • I might add the toddler rail to put on the bed we have although that's most likely a ways away
    • After Christmas, I may move some of the items I have on DD's list over so I can buy it with my completion discount and save it for her birthday or something.

  • @anonellis did you see the rock n play deal I posted yesterday? Ugh, I just checked and it's already over. It was $38 yesterday for the auto RnP on Amazon.

I realized I'll HAVE to buy new clothes even if this one is also a boy because DS was born in cold weather and this one will be born in warm weather. I'm not mad about it!

  • @kvh22 sorry for the abbreviation.  FC= Foster child.  I'm used to it from other communities I'm involved in and forgot that won't necessarily translate here.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I have seen a lot of second babies come out bigger than the first, but have also seen just as many be around the same or smaller than the first one as well.  DD2 was 1oz smaller than DD1 and even though they’ve grown at very similar rates (their growth charts, both height and weight, are almost carbon copies of each other) she has always been more petite in how she fits her clothes.

  • What is everyone’s favorite humidifier? I never bought one with ds because I couldn’t find one with consistently good reviews, and he never really got sick. I feel like I should have one now though just in case!
  • @aels12
we have this one and it's great. Cute, holds a lot of water, doesn't make a puddle on the floor. Highly recommend!

  • Do most places do a completion discount?  We registered at Babies R Us last time (RIP) and I don’t remember that being a thing.  What’s the discount typically?
  • @teesmee I remember Target did it last time around, and I want to say it was maybe 10%? Not huge but it covers tax at least.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds my kids have different fathers so I'm not really concerned about size this time around. My son's dad was 10lbs at birth and I was nearly 9lbs so I expected a large baby last time based on our sizes. My son was 9lbs 9oz, 23 inches. My husband was a much smaller baby, not even 7 lbs. We are hoping our combo leads to a smaller kiddo. We shall see🤷🏻‍♀️ I have noticed I am not as big this pregnancy than I was with my son, if that even matters lol. My size last time could have been due to the stress of my ex bailing about 8 weeks into the pregnancy he asked to start trying for🙄. We'll see how this baby is measuring at the ultrasound next week.
  • @fuscok88 I'll be interested in seeing how that factors in. H was about 6lbs something at birth and I was 8lb13.5oz lol. I'm way bigger this time and he's measuring ahead so I'm expecting a massive kid 😂 I've bought a couple newborn things but not many, mostly 0-3 and bigger. I'm going to laugh if he's smaller because I'm not prepared for that 😂
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds same! When I was pregnant with my son my OB insisted the baby's size will follow my mom's pregnancies. My older brother was 6.5 pounds so that clearly wasn't the case for me. They underestimated my son's size by over a pound at an ultrasound 2 days prior to his birth. I'm taking everything size wise with a grain of salt this time. Baby's size doesn't matter a whole lot since there really is no controlling that but I want to be prepared with the newborn cloth just in case since the father is different. I also bought Blueberry newborns so far which have a weight range of 6-16 pounds so they'll work for a little bit if I have another 9+ pounder.
  • I work at Target on the apparel & accessories team and my coworkers are dead set on throwing me a baby shower. I’ve got a massive registry but honestly a lot of it is:
    - different kinds of toiletries/laundry detergent as not everything works for every baby
    - a couple of outfits because DS was a winter baby and all his newborn outfits are fleece/sweater knit
    - car seat bases because we got a new infant car seat (DS’s old one was traded in at a target event for his convertible seat)
    - new parts for the bottles and a new paci
    - a mamaroo because DS never had a swing (planning on buying used as I can get one for about $100 locally, I’ll mark it as “purchased” whenever we get it)
    - new breast pump because the one I used with DS was gifted from my mom’s friend, 4 years old already when I received it, and insurance won’t cover a new one

Target does have a 15% registry completion discount that stacks with my TM discount which is nice, and even though my registry is massive I’ve marked specifically 20 things we really want/need, and then the rest are just fluffer items because people like to give blankets, clothes, toys, etc. that may not be needed but I thought I might as well register for what we liked in those categories rather than let it be a guessing game. It’s also just a visual for me to be able to mark “purchased” on things we get so I have a list of what we still need.
  • I already got my Amazon registry box, and it's really good this time! There are 2 bottles, one really nice one, a swaddle, a pacifier, a onesie, and some other little stuff. It's great for being free!!!
  • @ashleaf2018 If I worked there in apparel, I'd be broke. Especially in the toddler department haha

  • Sorry, spamming my posts after catching up. My registry has:
-New onesies since it'll be a summer baby instead of winter
    -double stroller
    -noise machine
    -pacifiers
-car seat protector (saved my car with DD)

Hoping for DD to be in a full bed and potty trained for when we need the changing table, diaper pail, etc. so I don't have to double up.

We conveniently (not so conveniently) broke the screen of our last monitor and had to buy another one. We have two cameras now, and it does split screen for two rooms. Stoked I don't have to buy another monitor even though I kinda did when we broke it haha.
  • I still have a lot but I'll need another high chair, a bassinet, a car seat, a double stroller, new bottle nipples, boy onesies since I have mainly girl onesies (but tbh, he'll probably be rocking a lot of pink hand me downs), a new bath towel or two...I mainly do it for the completion discount as well.  This time around, I'd really like to have a rocker.  Other than that, I had to start over with my daughter, so I kept everything this time.  I only really need to get stuff that she is still using.

Also, I am LOVING this thread because I am sure there are things I haven't thought about.

DS1 is 7.  DD is 1.  DS2 is coming in late April.
