@ki1244 i think he was joking... somewhat but i am so not. Lol when is a full name really used. When you are screaming at them down the street... my brothers given name is a variation of our last name. A norwegian tradition. He goes by a nickname (his middle name shortened)
@canuckbaby, oh, absolutely, I’m the keeper of The List. I love my husband desperately, but I am so, SO picky about names (especially girl names). There is so much pressure to do right by your kid - this is a pretty major decision and it has a lasting impact on a huge part of their life in the future. I get anxiety thinking about it too much. So his list is quite a lot longer than mine, which means mine is the “official” list.

@ki1244 nah doesnt have same ring plus would have to explain it lol. I am sure we will go with something else but for now its fun to harass him.
@KissMeImScottish i work in mental health and associate a lot of names with clients. And when he suggests a name immediately i think of the actor or athlete called that so i veto lots based on who i think of them as a person lol
@canuckbaby, yes! I don’t work in mental health (more power to you - that is a HARD field), but I was a preschool teacher before I married my husband and I associate names with the kids at the school all the time. I don’t want to insult anyone’s sensibilities, but there were three little girls named the same thing, and all three of them were SO poorly behaved. It ruined the name for me.

@KissMeImScottish lol no kidding i think that would be worse associated with a kid then an adult sometimes. I even think of people i knew in school in general
I definitely associate names with people that I don't like, or kids who are poorly behaved! It has ruined a lot of names for me.
@KissmeImScottish I'm the same with girl names. I only really love one, and I used it on DD! I could name a hockey team full of boys though. We won't bother talking about names until the second tri, when we'll also know what we're having, but I have a short list on my phone. My DH's list is ridiculously long, so I'd rather only have to deal with narrowing down the list for one sex!
@KissMeImScottish I LOVE the name Emory (for a boy or a girl!). I actually know Emory's or Emery's of both genders and I think it works either way. It's funny that you have a much easier time with boy names--my husband and I are the opposite, it took until the last minute to choose our son's name and if baby #2 is also a boy I know it will take just as long or longer to come up with another one. Girl names though, those we can agree on.
We are also thinking grace for a middle name since DD’s MN is Noelle.

Eeek! That’s so exciting, @srscott3! I was torn on staying team green or not for this last baby, but there’s something so amazing about the connection I feel when we finally settle on a name and start associating that name with the baby - I makes it feel settled in my mind. I love that we have a named baby in the group - Amelia Grace is beautiful!

Thank you both! @meatballs37 Grace is such a classic and beautiful name. I love it! And Noelle is SO PRETTY too!
@KissMeImScottish That’s exactly how I feel too. I already feel so much more connected to her. And we talk about her by name to DD, which I think will help her understand what’s going on when the baby gets here.
@antera23 I love the name Jacob. DH is not so on board. We are deferring name talk until we find out the sex. Too hard to pick two names instead of one. I have always loved Amelia. I was super into Amelia Earhart growing up. I have been turned off by the popularity, but I'll have to re-examine it and see how truly popular it is.
@antera23 Jacob is my favorite boy name ever, I have loved it since I could plan my kids’ names with baby dolls! Unfortunately for association reasons with DH it’s out of the running. I love the way it sounds and I love that it’s a strong traditional name but still cute for a little one. For living vicariously reasons, I hope you get to use it!
We are waiting to discuss till we get our gender results in (please hurry up) but I have a small list of names that I already like. @eleven_ mentioning you bc Rowan is one of my girl names, I dont think DH loves it as much as I do so I'm hoping for middle name on that one. I only know one Rowan around my age (30) so I don't think it's quite taken off yet, which is awesome!
@ShadeofGreen816 we were a bit worried about the popularity of it right now too. But H made a good point about names being popular versus names being trendy. Amelia is a name that is classic, so it’s bound to have times where it’s more or less popular. But it’s not a name that is “trendy”. No one will look at her name and know she was born in X year. I think trendy is what we were trying to avoid.
We are between Harper Quinn and Finley Rose. I think Harper is too common/trending so it will most likely be Finley which is also kind of a trending name. Oh welllls..ya like what ya like.
We don't really have a set 1st name picked out, but we know the middle name for a boy will be David (for my Dad, who passed in 2010).
For a girl, we want to do a middle name ending in -elle (DD1's middle name is Noelle & DD2's is Michelle). I think we have decided on Gabrielle for the middle name if baby 3 is a girl, but my H likes to change his mind (a lot), so can't be 100% sure.
@srscott3, that’s a really good point (trendy vs. popular). For what it’s worth, James have a tendancy to settle on a person like a second skin - once baby is born, it’s just a part of them. We have a tendancy to quibble over the minutiae of them before we actually meet baby, but once they’re here, the name usually just fits. Even the super popular names - people don’t question it when they meet someone names x, y, or z. An example, I’m not personally a huge fan of the name Robert (mostly because it always seems to become Bob, which I really don’t like). It’s my father in law’s and grandfather’s name, however. While I don’t love the name on principle, I don’t think twice about the fact that both men are just called Bob. 🤷🏼♀️
Right now, we have a William Alexander, a Harper Grace, and a Colton Miles. Though my kids will certainly not always be a unit, I can’t help but feel like I kind of want the names to go together a little bit? It’s why I’m struggling with some of the classic names I might otherwise gravitate towards. I love Charlotte, but I feel like it doesn’t flow with my other kids’ names. I feel like Emory does. We’re talking about Emory Quinn if it’s a girl right now, and Jamison Bryce if it’s a boy, but I have such a hard time commiting and I’m frustrated with my husband because he is pressuring me to commit before Christmas and it’s starting to annoy me.

Amelia was also a name that I love but one of my best friend's daughter's name is Amelia and I know she wouldn't care if I also used it but it has made us consider other options as well. Right now, Isla Capri is the top of our list since we found out we are having a girl. However, part of me is just concerned it will be pronounced wrong her whole life and then part of me isn't worried about it. I grew up with a name I always had to spell and it bothered me when I was younger but now I'm used to it and don't care because I love the way my name is spelled. Isla would be pronounced eye-la (like how the 'is' is pronounced in island). I have seen an increase in popularity online for this name but know no one personally that has used the name so maybe the somewhat increase in popularity will help people know how to pronounce it from the get-go?!
@r_k I think Isla is seeing enough of a resurgence that people wont mispronounce it ALL the time. My cousin named their daughter Isla about 5ish years ago and it was new to me then, but I have seen it peppered throughout birth announcements, etc. since then!
@r_k, my sister just named her little girl Isla Emerson (born a little less than a month ago). They heard so many compliments while they were in the hospital about it and so far, they haven’t had any issues with it.

Quinn is on our girl name list for middle names too. Our first date was at a place called Quinn’s, so it has meaning for us too. Ava or Isabelle right now for a first name. For me anyway, we won’t actually talk names until we know what we’re having!
Anyone have any gender neutral names they love? Hubs and I are leaning toward a fun gender neutral name for baby girl. I love the idea of a neutral or just boy name for a girl.
I really like Scout, Ryan, Tatum and Piper (maybe not so gender neutral on Piper) but hubs doesn't "love" any of those.
@gta4334 we had ryley number one for boy or girl until we realized my cousin named her daughter that. Boy or girl ryder will be middle name. Have some names floating around for first name. My DH likes jespar for a boy. We had a dog named jasper so I am waiting for him to get over it lol.
@KissMeImScottish I love all your kids’ names! And fwiw, I think Charlotte would work! Emory is also so beautiful. But in case you want any unsolicited suggestions, I think Quinn Abigail, Abigail Quinn, or Margot James would be nice with the other names too! (I’m basically projecting some of my favorites on to you because DH nixed them 😂)
Popular trendy names are okay in my book, I just tend to sway away from a name when I hear someone close to me uses it! Like a family member or close friend. Popular names are popular because people like them after all
@ShadeofGreen816 we weren’t going to decide until we knew what we were having because we couldn’t agree. But I finally found one name we both love! Who knows though, I might change my mind again lol.
@Dcwtada I’m sorry your H doesn’t like the name! I wish both of you could use the name too!
@srscott3 I like your insight about classic vs. trendy. I agree!
@wendyann19 Reagan used to be at the top of my list (in honor of the president...) but I don't like the cadence of it with our last name. I still love it though. My mom still hasn't forgiven me yet that I would dare to name our future daughter after Walt Disney's wife (Lillian) over one of the greatest presidents in our nation's history. (I keep trying to point out that my actual top girl name choice -- Liberty -- is a Republican's dream name, but she's not having it. And I still haven't gotten DH to come around on it either anyway.)
@wendyann19 I do love Reagan but unfortunately I knew a girl by that name and it just kinda ruined it. I hate how that happens because I feel like that's a name I could really get behind if it weren't for this random connection I make with it with some girl from high school.
@gta4334 this is the exact issue DH and I are having with names. We think of one then one of us remembers a person from our life that has ruined that name for us.
@wearyfuzzball and @gta4334 same issue here. My DH really liked the name Sophia but it just happens to be the name of a crazy employee I had who I had to fire and it was just a totally miserable process. I don’t want to have that story in my mind every time I say my daughters name.
I think we are going to try to pick our Top 3 names and then decide when baby is born. Maybe her look and personality will inspire us to choose a particular name.
Re: Favorite Names
Edit bc my phone doesn't like to spell the word Ryder.
We toyed with naming a little girl Liberty (still my top choice), and toyed with Belle as a middle name...but those can't happen on the same kid.

I'd love to do a gender-neutral name, but none jumped for us! Reagan was one I liked, Glenn was another, Stevie would be adorable.
