Symptoms 11/29-12/9

hey insomnia. I’ve been awake for 3+ hours (it’s currently 5:15) and I’ve given up on sleeping and started working on opening and dealing with medical bills.

What are your pregnancy symptoms?

Re: Symptoms 11/29-12/9

  • @lyse01 I've been waking up super early (3.30-4.30) and not able to go back to sleep. So annoying and exhausting! Yesterday I also started hurting when sitting down. I was in meetings all day and felt like I was feeling the wood the chair. My butt and crotch still hurts, I don't know why! Maybe things are just growing in there?

  • Runny nose and congestion for the entire week so far! I don't think I've felt normal and not sick for almost 3 weeks at this point. Anytime my body can get back to a not sick state that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Headaches, nosebleeds, and aching hips over here. Oh, and rlp and Braxton Hicks lately. The glories of growing a human.

  • I’m sick (yet again) and I think this time it’s a full on sinus infection.

@wildcosmiclove so many Braxton Hicks! I’m actually going to ask my doc about it at my apt. I’m wondering how careful I need to be about trying to prevent them, and then when I get them, how vigilant do I need to be about trying to stop them. If I’m at work, do I need to go find a place to lie down? Or can I just ignore them?
  • Insomnia for sure. I am keep getting headaches!
    Me: 32 DH: 31
    TTC #2 since January 2018
    Baby #1 DD  Born 8/25/2016

  • Oh my goodness on the Braxton Hicks! I haven't had any yet but knowing you ladies are getting them already being so early makes me wonder when/if they'll start. I didn't have any until after 30 weeks with DD.

  • As a FTM I have no idea if I'm having Braxton Hicks or not, but I think not. Just bad gas :D

Also having ridiculous leg cramps in the middle of the night, been using tonic water and might start taking magnesium again.
    Me: 29 DW: 44
  • My legs keep sporadically falling asleep. I can be standing, sitting, laying, it doesn't matter. This didn't happen till way later with DS and I totally forgot about it.

Somehow I completely missed getting any BH with him and I haven't had any with these guys, so I'm kind of on edge wondering what they'll be like if/when they start!

  • I wouldn't say mine is insomnia right now but more constant tossing and turning. Restless legs, back pain, headaches.

I can't wait to sleep on my stomach again!
  • Everything wears me out, including taking a shower. The leaden feeling in my legs is annoying. I’m starting to get Braxton Hicks too. The frustrating part about having them with DD (I had them constantly from 25ish weeks onward with her, sporadically before that), was that the only thing that helped was drinking a TON of water, but then my bladder being too full also gave me BH. So I was constantly chugging water and going to the bathroom every half hour. I’m hoping it won’t be as bad this time.
Also my face is still breaking out badly. Ugh.
  • Ugh, yes @HGRich I have them every time my bladder is full.

I don't remember having them much with DD, so having them frequently & early this time around has me a little freaked out.

  • So unbelievably tired. Starting to have a hard time bending over and changing positions at night. Super out of breath all the time, especially when I’m sitting down. And today, a dull ache and some RLP on my right side.
  • Weirdest sensation ever, but I'm pretty sure I've felt babe kick down sort of into my cervix versus out towards my stomach (he's kicked out towards my stomach also, and that's what this feels like, just down).  He was feet down at my anatomy scan, so I'm guessing that's a possibility.  Oddest feeling though!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Well that comment somebody made last week about about moving and randomly having back pain and twinges has showed up here. Not fun. Also super tired. Tech confirmed a very active baby so all the sensations of rolling and such have been her moving around in there.

Also i'm pretty sure i'm going to end up on insulin again. The nurse i talked to at my class said that i was 50% more likely to end up on it if i was on it in my previous pregnancy. And judging by my numbers it's where i'm headed. I started the diet Tuesday night hardcore and i can tell it's helping but not enough.

And honestly from the moment i saw that i was positive for GD i knew this was a probable outcome. I'm not happy about it, cause it really really super sucks, but i do know how to handle it at least.
    this is my backup acct.

  • @kangstadt this one is kicking (or head butting?) into my cervix too. It’s kind of nice when I think I haven’t felt him for awhile and then I realize he’s been busy poking into my cervix. Sometimes it’s a dull thud, sometimes it’s a sudden “omg I have to pee! Wait no I don’t.” Lol. It’s so weird.

@thatbaintforbetty I’m sorry your GD has been and might be severe enough for insulin. That has to majorly suck. I’m so glad you’ve been through it before at least, and know it’s manageable. But still.
  • I feel like my symptoms right now are pretty mild relative to some of you guys...

Aches and pains generally - I keep my heat pad accessible for usage as much as possible. I have nights of insomnia intermixed with nights where I sleep like a rock for 9 hours. Baby seems like it's always moving - recently I was eating and start just throwing up mid-bite and I want to blame it on fetal movement because my nausea has otherwise been gone. My left ear is blocked like 75% of the time. Minor, but so annoying. I don't need to hear my voice echoing around in my head so loudly!

I also finally cut off most of my hair because it's just been horrible and dry, and if it's going to be like that there may as well be less of it. That may be the LA water or weather though? Moving and pregnancy were too close in time to suss that one out.
  • @HGRich, it's definitely weird!  My sister called it "lightning crotch," and said it happens more often second time around.  I've heard people mention lightning crotch but I don't think I would have ever associated it with this.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kangstadt I think for me with my last pregnancy lightning crotch and cervix kicks were different sensations, and I had a lot of both. BUT I do think cervix kicks could cause lightning crotch too.
  • I feeling pretty smug that my braxton hicks hadn't started yet (had them a LONG time with DD). The universe knocked me off my high horse real quick.
  • @mesweettea, I'm ready to cut my hair too, it's just been irritating me lately.  I hope the blocked ear clears up soon!  My sinuses are almost always clogged, and it's definitely annoying.

@gollygeeitsamy, I've read that Braxton Hicks can start even earlier for second pregnancies.  I didn't even consider that's what mine are until someone on here mentioned it.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @lyse01 add me to the insomnia list too, except I wake up around midnight, fall back to sleep around 2 am, and wake up at 5:15am for work.
Also I am losing my hair, I never lost my hair with any of my previous pregnancies so this is a super fun/new symptom...
My lungs feel crowded already I feel like its waaaayyy too early for that (21 weeks sunday).
  • Well, not that I wish any of these symptoms on anyone, but I'm glad I'm not alone! I thought the 2nd tri was supposed to be the best? I'm still throwing up as often as I did during the 1st trimester (which isn't too often but still). Horrible gas pain still going on and now my back is starting to ache. And definitely +1 for insomnia. I can't find a position that's comfortable - especially lying on my side. Blah.
  • Hopefully this may help those of you dealing with insomnia, my OB suggested taking Unisom tablets and I take a 1/2 tablet every night. It really does help and I notice that I wake up for a few hours if I forget to take it.  I asked her if it was ok to keep taking it regularly and she said it was fine and that its not habit forming. It has also been studied and shows no increase in birth defects so is generally pregnancy safe. Of course, always talk with your doctor about your particular situation.

@rennie1108 maybe talk to your doctor about the nausea and vomiting? I don't know if you are taking anything but B6 supplements really helped me get through the worst of it. When I have bad spells I take the preggie pops with B6 from Target.
  • @rennie1108 side sleeping is totally not doing it for me! I've been thinking of bringing up this topic because it seems like current advice on whether or not back sleeping is truly a problem is pretty mixed -- but I can't sleep on my sides at all right now. It's definitely on my back or nothing, and actually getting some sleep seems like a priority. But even then, is lying on my back comfortable? Maybe "less uncomfortable"...
  • @mesweettea I was told by one of my midwives that back sleeping is ok as long as you feel fine doing it. I think there comes a point when the uterus is too heavy, and when that happens you'll actually start feeling nauseous so you can't sleep on your back anymore (like, your body will tell you). What I'm trying to do is put 2 big pillows on each side of me and sleep half on my side - kind of "tilted" to the side if that makes sense.

@gollygeeitsamy Thanks for the tips! I don't know how much is too much vomiting to start taking something. I maybe vomit like 2-3 times a week - I think I'm just being a wimp! But I am still nauseous quite a bit. I'll ask her about B6.
  • I’ve been having difficulty getting comfortable at night and I wake up regularly trying to find a better position. I was a back sleeper for 20 years, so switching to my side (even with pregnancy pillow) has been a struggle. And my sciatica keeps coming and going, which also makes it hard to walk at times. Otherwise I’m doing alright, and I just started feeling little baby movements this week which is such a cool and strange sensation... I love feeling her!
  • Is anyone having tingling in their toes or experienced this? Im really hoping this isnt a sign of preeclampsia. I thought it was just from shoes being too tight but i started paying more attention and its happening occasionally without shoes. Calling my doc on Monday.
  • Yes to lots and lots of Braxton Hicks, especially after working out. Got a bit worried this week after a bath, lying down, and lots of water didn’t slow or stop them, but I figured I would just go to bed and in the morning they were gone.

My most annoying symptom is that my boobs are incredibly, annoyingly itchy. I think it’s the skin stretching? I don’t remember this with my first three pregnancies, but I had a boob job in between the last baby and this one (thinking we were done) and do maybe that has something to do with it?
  • @ciaobellat no tingling here, but I think tingling in extremities is also a symptom of diabetes so good to let them know about it.

@catherineclaire78 it could also be your skin is less elastic than previously? Dunno. I’d try drinking water and applying lotion 🤷‍♀️

As for me, I am pretty sure this is NOT a pregnancy symptom but I still want to complain about it. My back is a disaster - the tweaks have graduated into full blown constant pain while moving/shifting weight/going around corners in cars/getting up and down from the floor/sitting/standing...basically anything but lying still on my side on the couch or in bed. DD is a chaos agent and so my house is a disaster too and I can’t move quickly enough to catch or stop her. My primary care doc saw me on Friday and thinks I injured a facet joint in my spine somehow and gave me the encouraging news of “there are lots of treatments but none of them are really available to a pregnant woman”...except Tylenol, heat, and light massage. Which don’t really touch the pain. This is awful and I cry in self-pity. 😭
  • @catherineclaire78 My belly was crazy itchy from stretching because it dehydrates the skin. I just started using lotion and it doesn’t itch at all now.
  • @catherineclaire78, my boobs are so itchy as well!  I think it's from the skin stretching, and even when I moisturize they still itch.

@lyse01, so sorry you're dealing with that!  It sucks not having normal pain remedies to fall back on.  Does a rice heating pack help out at all?

As for me, I've woken up every night the last week drenched in sweat.  And we keep our house fairly cool (electric baseboard is so ridiculously expensive, and our woodstove is downstairs and turned back at night).  Anyone else dealing with this?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kangstadt that's been happening to me too (most nights). I'm chalking it up to hormones.
  • @kangstadt Yes, a couple times. Used to get it when my thyroid was out of whack, now I agree with @rennie1108 that it's just hormones going crazy!
    Me: 29 DW: 44
  • @kangstadt my heated seats feel nice but don’t actually help, and I don’t think I have a heating pad/pack of any sort. Ditto massage by DH (finally). It did feel better for most of today due to sheer refusal to carry anything or get on the floor, but I got frustrated with DH not getting out my Christmas decorations (“I looked at the shelves and I didn’t know what you wanted so I didn’t get any of it.” “I want ALL of it.”) and not clearing out my car so we could get more stuff from the ILs’ house and overdid it. So now I’m letting Grandma play with DD and making DH come over with his emptier car to carry everything out.
  • My back is the same right now. I honestly thought I pulled a muscle or something. Mostly my lower back but literally every change I position from rolling over in bed to going from sitting to standing. Maybe it is pregnancy related? Besides insomnia that’s my only big complaint.
  • @mrssnow1215 I think the extra weight in front might be pulling things a little out of whack but also don’t think it would have caused this on its own.
  • To those who were talking about back vs side sleeping - someone mentioned that their MW said it was fine until your body tells you not to - that's what my OB said last time too. Your body will let you know when it becomes a problem. I fall asleep on my sides and 9/10 times I wake up on my back.

  • Ditto what @MRDCle said. Your body will tell you when to move. Sometimes laying on my back is the most comfortable. Plus, they mean lying flat. Most people have at least a pillow or two under their head.

Sciatic and back pain can kiss it. Along with headaches.
  • My two biggest complaints right now are heart burn and neck pain. Pre-pregnancy I already had chronic neck pain so this symptom isn't too surprising with this new and free boob job. The heart burn is unreal though! I'm starting some meds tonight that my doctor said was safe. Hopefully I can lay down peacefully tonight.

  • I have been so gassy lately.. It's disturbing... There were a few nights last week where I was up by 3-4 am and couldn't fall back asleep, no matter what position I was in!
