Re: Questions (m/o November)

  • @highsteaks I won't lie, things are rough. M refuses to be put down, screams when I do. For the last 2 nights, he's screamed and cried all night. Reflux and gas seem to be taking a toll on us all. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss the quiet days of NICU where he slept peacefully. When he does sleep, it's very fitful and he seems like he's in pain. Even when I'm holding him, he's not settled. I'm hanging by a thread. Last night, I got about 2 hours of sleep total.

I’m so sorry. My oldest was like this- reflux, very high needs. It got better around 8 weeks but oh was it tough before then. It felt like it would never end. Sending hugs. And wine.

  • @wildrainbow i am so so sorry. that is miserably tough, especially with the reflux compounding everything.

dd1 was miserably high needs too (d*mnit, she still is), so i know how constantly being “on” takes a toll. if you need to vent, i will gladly lend an ear. you will survive, and you’ll be a stronger person in the end for all your efforts. hang in there, and yes yes yes wine when the chance presents itself. i also recommend blasting music in the car when you’re by yourself. hugs  <3
  • @highsteaks Ds1 was high needs too. He still is as well. I was so hoping M would be my chill kid. No. Such. Luck.
  • @wildrainbow we went through the same thing with DD1, and a friend of mine had the same issue with her DD. It does get better once everything gets balanced out but the rough sleeping (when there is sleep) is so hard until then. My friend's DD ended up sleeping in a car seat for a few months until they got the reflux under control. Sending you patient vibes and hoping you get some rest.
  • @wildrainbow Tristan was the same, when he was in the NICU he slept like a dream through the night (just waking for feeds and then going back to sleep).  He was like that for his first week home (just to lull us into a false sense of security and then it was down hill from there.  Now from about 11 pm until 4-5 am he screams unless he is being held.  Then after 4-5 am he sleeps in his bassinet like a champ.  He just wants me to hold him all night so that he can sleep in his bassinet all day apparently...

@wildrainbow my apologies. i do remember now that you mentioned before that ds1 has a strong personality when we talked about the ones with tough beginnings grow to be strong people. i wish i could drive over and let you get a break today.

eta @marfi236 i’m so sorry that Tristan is a night owl. are you able to sleep at all?
  • @highsteaks I'm still on leave until the new year so thankfully, I can sleep in the morning.  I have been sleeping from like 5 am to 1 pm.  Gonna have to get off that schedule before I go back to work!  :D

  • @wildrainbow Oh, I'm so sorry it hear that things have been so hard with M. Has there been any improvement in the past few days? Sydney has reflux too and it's so difficult sometimes since we can't really lay her down. Sometimes even diaper changes seem to be painful for her since lying on her back makes it worse.
Did you get reflux meds for him? The doctors said it can take more than a week for those to really kick in, so I hope they start working soon.

@highsteaks How are the twins? How has the transition been to being a mom of 3? How is your oldest doing?

  • @offtoneverland very very loud. joking aside, it’s pretty fairly split between chill and chaos here. elise is very easy to please, emilia is a little more fussy but it doesn’t typically last long. dd1 is doing ok; pretty sure she’s over the hump of new baby in the house emotions. she is obsessed with her sisters though. she wants to do everything: hold them, feed them, put the paci back, inspect their diapers... sometimes she’s so aggressive about it that i have to remind her that she’s not their mom. i was not prepared for that level of sister love.
  • @wildrainbow - I'm sorry things are so hard with M. I hope things improve soon. I don't remember, is he on meds for reflux?

  • @mockingjay1 He is on meds (zantac BID). I dunno if they are working as he is still uncomfortable and cranky. Some days are worse than others. I've started swaddling him again at night and that seems to help overall, at least in terms of how often he wakes. That doesn't count his spit ups and grunting times while he tries to work out a toot.
