Any appointments? Questions? My next appointment is Dec. 19th to measure the head.
My nipples are itchy throughout the day. Are yours?
Rant: I ordered new air filters online for our air purifier and the package arrived about a week later. I got a different product than I ordered. After contacting the company several times for a refund or the correct product and each representative refusing to acknowledge their company made a mistake, I was called back and told, "We advertise [the product that you ordered] but we don't actually sell it." So false advertisement- cool. Then he said, "but I can offer you $5 of in-store credit and you can keep the item or you can return it to us for a refund." Well the company that shipped the product to me was so kind to send me a return label (the selling company would not) and they gave me the refund rather than the selling company itself (not sure why it's coming from them and not the company at fault, but whatever).
How are you feeling? I'm sick. We haven't had the air purifier running for about 2 weeks now so my allergies have become a sinus infection. Now I know not to throw out the old filters until we have the replacements.
Pregnancy related feelings: back aches and pains and excited to find out if baby is a boy or girl in a couple weeks
GTKY: How was your Thanksgiving? Great. We had stuffing with cranberries mixed in this year and it was delicious.
One of my SILs is vegan because animals have feelings too and she was very upset because one of my BILs shot a deer thanksgiving morning and the whole family helped field dress, skin, and quarter it. She wasn't here for the holidays, but it upset her to hear about it. I don't understand why everyone just didn't tell her about it because everyone knows how she feels about animals. She won't eat regular unfertilized eggs because chickens come from eggs- she has very strong feelings regarding food from animals- so why did anyone tell her? We probably won't see her again for a while.
Also, one of my SILs said she would take newborn photos for us! Two of my SILs are professional photographers with a major in photography and both have experience with newborm photoshoots so DH and I feel very happy one of them was willing to do that for us. We looked at the reviews for the in-hospital company and they were terrible so we weren't sure what we were going to do. I'm really glad we were able to talk about that over the holiday and we're thankful for her willingness to do something so special for us. My MIL volunteered to pay for the session as well.
Any appointments? Questions? Follow up to my anatomy scan (Ie more ultrasound) plus more shots!
Rants/Raves? Rave: I like feeling movement more consistently now
How are you feeling? Good! Achy back, and some crazy RLP when I try to sit up and chase DD, but otherwise highly functional.
GTKY: How was your Thanksgiving? Wonderful, other than a bit of MIL drama and cousin awkward comments.
I told DH’s second cousin (much older) about the pregnancy on the third or fourth offer of wine and his wife said “congratulations! That’s so exciting! Etc etc” while cousin said “again? How are you going to handle two of those?” Yeahhhh...tag teaming as usual? At least his wife smacked him into trying to walk that one back.
But I did enjoy a glass of cab sauv at dinner and man, I’ve missed wine. More vino in a few months, PLEASE.
And on Saturday, we got a super cute photo of DD with her third cousins, and a family friend waxed poetic about how he started coming to Thanksgiving with us when I was DD’s age, and isn’t it lovely to see a whole new generation forming?
@mighty_montgomery YAY for photo shoots you don’t have to pay for! And that was lovely of MIL to offer to cover the cost for SIL too.
Also, I 100% agree that it would have been extremely easy to just not tell SIL about the deer. Like “hey, we subbed in cranberries for sausage in the stuffing this year like you’ve recommended and it was great!” would have been a good recap that values her; “we killed Bambi and did a bloody harvest dance around his corpse” is so clearly NOT a good Thanksgiving recap...
Any appointments? Questions? Next appt is Dec 18, just a standard check up
Rants/Raves? Like @lyse01, I'm starting to feel movement more often now it's awesome
How are you feeling? Pretty great. Have had a few people tell me I look good, maybe they're just being nice, I don't know. Felt some weird sensations last night but everything is back to normal. Definitely experiencing pregnancy brain lol
GTKY: How was your Thanksgiving? Pretty good for the most part, just had some issues with how some things were handled, but I tried to let it slide bc whatever. I got to eat turkey and didn't have to think much the past few days!
Any appointments? Questions? Nothing until Dec.13th. Feeling grateful to be gliding through.
Rants/Raves? Nothing extreme.
How are you feeling? Overall, really great. I am a little shocked at how much movement I'm feeling because I have an anterior placenta. I'm feeling a bit anxious about our upcoming trip (with ILs for four weeks total overseas), but I know that's a first world problem.
GTKY: How was your Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving was great. We were up in the NC hills, relaxing!
@mighty_montgomery that's exciting about the newborn photo shoot! I'm jealous.
@lyse01 I had a glass of cab on Thanksgiving too. It was SO good and only made me want a second. Soon enough...
Any appointments? Questions? Had appt last week with midwives. Planning glucose test at next appt. I asked about subbing jelly beans for the orange drink and they are ok with it. But then I did more research and read the jelly bean test is not quite as accurate. So now second guessing the idea. Anyone have thoughts it experiences with that?
Rants/Raves? Happy to be feeling the baby moving. My husband can feel her every night too, and my mom got to feel her move the other day!
How are you feeling? Quite amazingly good! Did a lot of hiking over the weekend and hardly knew I was pregnant (until I got home and collapsed in a heap).
GTKY: How was your Thanksgiving? Wonderful- did our baby moon trip to Monterey. We also posted on FB finally with a cute thanksgiving bump pic about the pregnancy. I was overwhelmed by the number of responses and realized way more ppl than I thought didn’t know about the baby coming! Word of mouth is slower than I thought.
@laurainoakland I haven’t heard about jelly beans as a sub before. what’s the rationale for the substitution? The orange drink for me was not nearly as bad as I’d been led to believe.
@lyse01 I heard about the jelly bean test on a podcast and asked my midwife about it. I think the idea is that the orange drink isn’t v tasty and is filled with food coloring etc and that if you sub an alternate sugar source at the right quantity you can avoid the unpleasantness. It’s been tested in an academic study and gained some acceptance. I liked the idea of eating a bunch of jelly beans better than the orange drink, but only as long as it is as effective.
@laurainoakland sounds interesting! For what it’s worth, my glucose drink had artificial flavoring but no color. And honestly, it wasn’t unpleasant. Not my choice of drink, but more like something I’d be tasting in the middle of baking, say, the candy part of candied orange peels.
I have a gloriously appointment free week! I have been seeing a pelvic floor physio and counselor in addition to all the midwife appointments and tests so it just feels like I am constantly in appointments. I am really enjoying not having to run anywhere during my lunch or before/after work.
Rants/Raves?
I have been MIA from the board for the last couple weeks because we are house hunting. It blows, that is pretty much it. I have been lurking, just no time to post
How are you feeling?
The nausea and fatigue of the first trimester decided to return this week...cool, cool.
GTKY: How was your Thanksgiving?
Canadian here so no Thanksgiving for me. We usually go down to my parents in the States but have been experiencing a lot of family weirdness so we passed on it this year. I was super jealous of the tasty meals everyone was posting!
@lyse01 it seems like a crime that you had to miss the chateauneuf du pape
@BarefootContessa Fingers crossed you get your sips! I steal sips of my husbands beer and wine all time.
Any appointments? Questions? No appointments. 2 more weeks until my 20 wk anatomy scan and I am SO impatient! I've been pretty chill so far, but for some reason I am obsessed with this scan. I seriously considered calling and asking if I can do it early.
Rants/Raves? I'm feeling the baby move a bit every day now, which is wonderful. I can't wait until DH can feel it! I'm getting pretty tired of only fitting into one pair of pants. I finally ordered some maternity clothes, so I'm really looking forward to that.
How are you feeling? Still very few symptoms, although I haven't been sleeping well the past few nights. Also I occasionally feel a little out of breath. I wore my super comfy heels to work yesterday and realized the cute shoes ship has sailed.
GTKY: How was your Thanksgiving? Super low key, which was nice. Just DH, my sister, and me. I made a ridiculous vegetarian feast. There are still left overs in the fridge...probably time to throw those out.
Hey @a_midgarden welcome to Week 1 (due dates between April 1 & 7)! I love your Thanksgiving crowd, it sounds like it was intimate and stress-free. :-) I hope your anatomy scan goes well and that your ultrasound tech is able to see everything clearly. I know what you mean about not sleeping well haha I rarely get a good night's rest! I feel out of breath often too now, although it might be because I'm sick. I'm not looking forward to what it will be like trying to breathe next trimester.
Haha wrong thread! I've been doing stuff like this all month. The pregnancy brain is real. I'd delete the comment, but I can't figure out how. Thanks for the welcome @mighty_montgomery and other week 1 ladies
