Have you started stocking up yet?

Re: Have you started stocking up yet?

  • I didn't stock up for my son and there were a lot of sudden trips to the store to get more diapers, so it might be nice to have some stuff ready this time. So far I just got one little pack of diapers because they have cute pandas on them.

I think I tried stocking the freezer last time too and it didn't work out. My freezer is now tiny also. I might subscribe to a meal kit service this time around.

I'm getting a chest freezer at the new house. It is already decided.
    Me toooooo
  • I'm not going to stock up too much, but I really did like having diapers and wipes on hand. Pampers makes a hypoallergenic line, has anyone tried these? My son was allergic to a lot of his diapers (though, this might sound weird but I'm pretty sure he might've been allergic to his poop because I was eating eggs, he was pooping and getting god awful rashes).

I might buy some cloth diapers but I'm not sure. We did it for a short time with DS but I hate laundry. My son was 8.5lbs at birth and still wore newborns for a while. But that might have been a "first pancake" error lol.
  • As a first timer, I haven't tried that pampers line but that is what I plan to try first.  I am very sensitive and my husband had eczema so I suspect our baby will have skin sensitivities too.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds maybe, or maybe not.  I purposely didn't have newborn clothes because I didn't know if we would really need them.  DD1 was 8lbs at birth and wore newborn sleepers for a couple weeks.  But my mom just ran out and bought a couple once we knew we needed them.

  • I haven't tried the sensitive Pampers but we did use the baby dry and swaddlers for quite a long time. This baby will be getting Costco Brand diapers. They are essentially Huggies and I love the elastic in the back, it's saved us from some (not all!) blow outs. We don't have sensitive skin issues so I'm assuming it'll be fine but we'll adjust if not.

BTW, by not stocking up I mean I'm not buying boxes and boxes ahead of time. We will have at least one giant Costco box of both NB and size 1s on hand, just nothing more than that. Wipes we just buy all the time anyway, we'll buy more boxes at one time if we need to.

  • Also, I'm torn on postpartum supplies. I made padsicles last time but then didn't use them because C-section and it honestly made me really upset to have to throw them out. I'm trying for a VBAC but expecting a RCS so idk

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I'm going to be making padcicles this time. I recommend making a few at least on the chance you have a VBAC. I had them from the hospital but they didn't have witch hazel or anything on them. But they were incredible. I can understand it would be hard to throw them away but maybe you could give them to a friend this time if it doesn't go to plan. I would just hate for you to have a VBAC and not have them.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I guess that's true! It made me angry because it was a reminder I had a C-section I didn't want but since I'm expecting it this time around, it may not be so painful if I have to toss them.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I have never been through that, but have a friend who had to have an unexpected csection due to hellps (she wasn't even allowed to labor, just taken in that day and brought back). She really struggled with that on a regular basis until she had her second son and passed the 37 week mark (when she had to deliver last time). She was able to have a VBAC, but she had mentally prepared herself for if she couldn't. There is nothing wrong with a csection, but it's not the first choice for many people, and I created this beautiful picture in my mind of labor and delivery and honestly imagine I would've been devastated if it hadn't gone my way. So to an extent, without having gone through it myself, I get that. I hope you're able to have a VBAC this time, but if not, I hope that you and baby are safe and healthy and you can be at peace with whatever happens ♥️ but if vbac is on the table at all, I would prepare, even if just a little for that. The hospital will provide a lot of recovery items, but the padcicles with witch hazel and whatnot, they don't. So I would probably make at least a couple. But if it'll upset you, maybe just have dh toss them if needed. ♥️

@eatinwatermelonseeds @DuchessOfCambridge what's in the padsicles besides witch hazel? I had heard of freezing tucks with witch hazel - is that them?
  • @knarlytaurus This is what I found on Pinterest. I'm sure there are different recipes, so I'd take a look there.
  • I never stocked up with my last. I actually got a lot of diapers, wipes, lotion, body wash, sleepers etc from my baby shower. So once that stuff ran out, I brought as needed. So, that is my game plan again. Its hard to stock up because you don't know which diapers will work, which body wash/ lotion will work best with that babies skin etc. I remember so many people had got me huggies and I couldn't even use huggies. So its like how do you stock up.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds thank you! I didn't think to look on pintrest.
  • We cloth diaper so no need there. Scheduled C for medical reasons so we aren’t stocking up on padsicles. Freezer meals maybe. We have all the big things. Car seats, got the Veer wagon and love it but we’re also getting an Uppababy Vista at tax time. Have all the big stuff from when Rhett was little. Need a new bathtub maybe since regulations changed in 2017. May just do sink baths instead. Nothing else to stock up on for us really. Except maybe our favorite diaper rash cream and baby wash. Rhett didn’t start getting bad diaper rash until he started teething and developed a love of OJ but it’s worth having for sure.
  • @ashleaf2018 what diaper system do you use?
  • @knarlytaurus I made the ones from Pregnant Chicken. Very similar but lavender oil instead of coconut oil. I didn't use them though so I can't speak to how well they worked 😂

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds thanks ❤️ I think I'm mostly over it at this point since I am more upset about the stuff that happened with DS but I do think expecting a RCS will help me mentally. Fingers crossed for that vbac though!
