@mrsyng I failed the 1h glucose test by 8 points. I live with a diabetic and those 5 or 8 points are nothing and are not an indication you have gestational diabetes. However, because it is protocol, your doctor has to make sure and thus the 3h test.
I'm not going to sugar coat it (haha see what I did there!)- it was horrible. Longest 3h of my life and fasting for 12h before that left me miserable. BUT! You do it and move on with your life so know what to expect, bring entertainment, find a corner to get comfortable and don't hesitate to tell them if you're not feeling well (so many hours with no food or water is very difficult for a pregnant woman so if you need to lay down, do it).
I'll keep my fingers crossed everything goes well!
(And as expected, I passed that test because really, 8 points with none of the other symptoms basically means nothing).

    @mrsyng
Failed the one hour as well by a few points. The 3 hr stinks -- the drink is like corn syrup - and I was feeling giddy and sick by the time it was done. Bring good reading material or iphone games. It is BOOOOORING.  But most people who fail the 1hr pass the 3 hr without issues, especially if they were borderline on the 1 hr. The 1 hr just screens for anyone who "might" have GD; the three hour one is more specific.

@kristimh80 yes, MH also would like to start telling people during the holidays too. I feel slightly bad I told him not to but I’m just not ready for all that!! I’m comfortable sharing my symptoms & pregnancy with the few friends who know and that’s how I want it to continue for a bit. But I’ll wait and see how I feel after thanksgiving, I may allow MH to share just a bit. Lol

@more14 & @mbradfo2 thanks for reassuring that I may likely not fail the 3hr test. Fx! I also had to check my old labs for my glucose levels prior to pregnancy and they were normal so I think I’ll be okay. :) but oh man, tastes like corn syrup? So gross! I was already having a hard time pushing down the last half of the lime during the 1 hr. Wish my luck on Monday - since it’s a holiday I’ll be at the lab!

@mrsyng yes I understand what you are saying. I also feel I am going to be never ready but I don’t even want to think about it until week 20. MH is ok not telling anyone until then cos both our parents know. We will figure out at week 20 what to do next.

Good luck with 3 hr glucose test on Monday

@bkatp I am 9 weeks today. I plan to wait until January to tell people at work, but it has been hard to keep it from friends. My close group of girlfriends and our immediate family members have known since the beginning, but other friends are starting to find out too. We are very social and get out a lot, and the upcoming holidays won’t help that. It has been hard to hide my not drinking, so I guess people have speculated. I thought I was doing a good job of getting drinks like soda water with lime that look like alcohol, but I guess not. My husband is not great at keeping it secret either 🙄. If someone asks him he has a hard time lying about it. This is our first time being pregnant though, so he is just excited. I would ideally like to wait until after the first trimester or even after Christmas to truly announce though.
  • Options
@kfs825 even I am planning to tell at work (HR and managers who need to know ) in January after 20 weeks. This is our first one too and we are slowly getting excited. Both me and my husband are just apprehensive to get too excited.

@mrsyng hoping u passed 3 hr glucose test and survived the test.

@northbeach3 good luck with your ob ultrasound tell us if it is still a girl. In my last ultrasound I asked her to predict the gender but she said wouldn’t until 20 weeks.

@mrsyng I hope the 3 hr glucose test goes well for you. I did hear the drink is not pleasant, but hopefully not too bad.

@kristimh80 and @mrsyng i'm not planning on announcing at all. My close friends who have been with us throughout out journey already knows and both of our parents know. I will announce once i give birth in the hospital to the rest of my facebook group.

Sorry i've been MIA. Been really feeling nauseated and out of energy, so i've been just dragging along everyday. Just came back from my 11 week testing. Had a Sono with a Maternal fetal specialist that did a nuchal Translucency scan and a cell-free DNA testing. The Sono looked good. Baby's Heartbeat is 180 and measuring 2 days ahead of schedule. I am celebrating this miracle and every milestone we hit. I was so worried leading up to this and now this gives me some peace until 4 weeks later.

Anyone else already gaining weight? I hope it's from the pio, which i've stopped and is now slowly weaning with just suppositories. i just don't know how i'm going to keep the weight gain below 35 Ibs if i'm already gaining? I'm also already showing, not sure if its because this is my second pregnancy because i don't remember showing this early for my first.

I'm also dreading the holidays and all the stress that comes with xmas gift shopping. I can barely gather enough energy to get groceries after work, how am i going to do this? I do have a lot to be thankful for this holiday, i just wish i could be thankful for them while i hibernate lol

@babyhopeful442 glad u were able to get both the tests done. They told me that I had to pick either one. The cell free dna testing company has offered me a discount so now I am inclined to get that test done.  That will also tell us gender of the baby as husband keeps asking me after every visit if they told me the gender of the baby.

I think if I wear fitted clothes I’ll show but I guess all that is fat that I have accumulated over these 2 months with no exercise- resting mode and eating more because of gastritis.

@babyhopeful442 I hear ya on dreading the Christmas shopping! I think that most of my shopping this year will be done online. Thank goodness for Amazon prime!

I dont think I’ve gained weight yet, but I have actually been hungrier than normal rather than feeling nauseas. I haven’t been very active either because on top of being exhausted I’ve been having a lot of lower back/upper tailbone pain. I’ve always gained weight easily so I’m sure I will if I don’t change something. I plan to take a slow-go yoga class this week to hopefully help with the pain and get me back in the habit of going to the gym.

    Hi ladies,

i'm copying some of the text from what i posted in PAIF.

had "first OB" appointment today, but it was a faker appt with an NP. only did bloodwork and made referrals to high-risk scan center and full MD OB. was thankful to have gone to an RE b/c the NP didn't provide any information or recommendations. kept having to ask what to expect with people she was referring.

next OB appointment with MD is
Friday, Nov 30th (13+2) -- still don't expect a scan b/c it didn't look like they had any u/s equipment in the patient rooms... and NP was going to send me to ANOTHER location for my scans before upgrading me to high risk center. ugh... it'll almost be 5 weeks since my 9w scan. (pained face)

rant!  really wish my RE could have made a direct referral to high risk docs... there was a snafu with my OB office not receiving my medical records from RE and then threatening cancelling my appointment. was able to get high risk referral granted same-day, so when i called to make appointment for first trimester scan, the woman told me they passed me on kind of late and all the appointments were taken! she was able to get me in on one of the last days for the first trimester scan -- on Monday, December 3rd (13+5).

i still feel in the dark about what to expect re: upcoming genetic testing... and when is it typical to do the glucose test? i feel like i'm in prime time and am getting so little checks due to poor coordination from RE to OB. Wish I would have made my NP appt earlier. I'll almost be 14w before i get those initial post-RE checks :(

@mrsyng yes I ll know gender early but I guess it is coming at a out of pocket cost. But I am ok paying it for other reasons and knowing gender is a perk of that.

@northbeach3 my first appointment was also faker with NP and even for that they wanted records to be transferred so I had to follow up every other day to see if the records were transferred. But I think glucose test is done around 24-28 weeks unless there is reason to do early like family history of diabetes on maternal side. NIPT is done any Time after 9-10 weeks depending on which test you are getting done. But I was told the later the better accuracy of the results. 13+5 should be fine for NIPT if ur OB can order same day tests. I am also getting mine done at 13 weeks

missing ultrasound in between- that somehow looks like concern for us patients not doctors, I was worried and expressed my concern and doctor just ruled it out saying we don’t do too many ultrasounds without reason

Thanks for the reassurance @bkatp. I actually do have diabetes on my maternal side and my 23andme genetics test said I’m at higher risk for GD. What’s the earliest they would do a glucose test?

@northbeach3 as far as I understand it, GD is tested during second trimester. Usually in weeks 24-28 but if you're in a higher risk of getting g GD then they might screen you earlier than 24 weeks but probably after 14 weeks. Another factor is if you have any other symptoms. But all this really depends on your personal test results, history and what your OB thinks is best for you and your baby.
If your clinic is anything like mine, every visit you will give a urine sample to test for sugar and protein in your urine. This is done to see if you have any GD and preeclampsia warning signs.

Ladies, please remember that just because we went though IF treatments, doesn't make us high risk or is a reason for more check ups. Some of you will be high risk due to other factors, such as age, family history and previous history of MCs. Normal OB visits are every 4 weeks and US is usually done only twice during the entire pregnancy.
I know, it's very different from tyw RE visits and close monitoring, but really, most pregnancies are just about going through your days while your baby grows inside, kicks your ass and rearranges your inner organs.
For us, it's a precious pregnancy that we worked very hard to achieve but for your OB it's a regular pregnancy.
All that said, be informed and know what to expect! Know what is happening inside you and ask all the questions. And if you feel your OB is not giving you any answers or is slacking in your care, speak up and don't be afraid to switch to a different doctor.

@northbeach3 thank you I am glad to stop PIO. I guess everyone in this group should have graduated PIO by now. Sorry you are having to wait till end of this month for the appointment.

@mrsyng good luck with NT scan tomorrow. Hopefully they will be able to give some hints on gender too ? What are you expecting.

Does others know the gender of the baby ? What are you expecting ? Are you going by any old tales to predict

@northbeach3 <3  we all need to remind ourselves to breathe  :) I know how hard it is to relax and enjoy the pregnancy, but we have to try, right? Otherwise we will miss a pretty amazing part of our journey to motherhood.
I learned that from my dad's second wife. She was a real trooper in her IF journey (and it was a real bad one) and I think part of what gave her the strength to go through the shit that she had to endure, was the ability to enjoy what she had, live in the moment and always look forward. I admire her a lot.

    Hello all,
@more14 I'm still here, haven't moved over yet. I have 6 more PIO shots left, getting there!

Just back online after that two week long hiatus for our cruise. Waves were high with several Atlantic storms so I had a lot of nausea but I made it through, and it was easier to at least be on the ship where I could get any food whenever I wanted/needed it. Vomiting on a rocking ship is definitely an interesting experience, haha. As is having DH administer a PIO shot in the airplane galley with flight attendants pushing carts back and forth. We actually started laughing. IVF is truly an adventure!

Today's freakout I'm having is that I had two voicemails I missed from Walgreens before we left and then my phone was literally turned off and locked in the stateroom safe for two weeks. Those messages said that my RE clinic had called Walgreens saying that the generic estrogen patches I had picked up for the cruise needed to be brought back because they didn't want me using those as they haven't had as much success with those versus the name brand. So basically, I have been using the generic patches for 2-1/2 weeks, weeks 9 and 10, and now am praying they were effective enough at delivering the needed estrogen. I can't imagine how I would feel if this caused something to go wrong at this point. Has anyone else used the generic patches and they worked as a fine substitute for Vivelle?

ETA: I have a voicemail into my clinic and waiting for a nurse callback now.

Update: Nurse called back just now and everything is fine. The concern with the generic it turns out is that the adhesive doesn't work well and patients have found patches fallen off in their clothes. This surprises me because I've had the opposite experience where they are so hard to peel off and hurt like heck to get off. So that means I've been getting the estrogen just fine and all should be well. Whew!

    Hi everyone!

    Welcome back @Momifbysea!

My NT scan went better than I expected, it’s quite difficult to accept an u/s tech doing my u/s and not a RE/doctor. All my u/s have always been with just the multiple REs from the clinic other than the NP at the initial ob visit and even then I was anxious. But I’m slowing coming to terms that all will be well with tech or doc.

Back to my nt scan - oh is was no nice to see a more human form on the tv screen!!! :) and thankfully, my LO cooperated too! SHE/he was mostly turned facing down and when the tech almost gave up to have me release my overfilled bladder, LO decided to flip just long enough to get a measurement and we were able to see HER/his face (still alien like but it was so sweet lol). I’m so in love!! My heart is full, this baby is our take home baby! Tech also said LO was measuring about 4 days ahead? So we’ll see. NT results were negative.

I cant wait to find out gender but mh & I are both thinking this is a little girl and if not we will be glad take a boy too! Which ever, as long as s/he is healthy!

@mrsyng that's great that you got to see LO!!! I am excited for my next u/s. That's funny, all these visits to the RE and he's never done one single ultrasound, it's always one of the nurses on the team (who are all amazing by the way) but I only saw him for consults or ER or transfer procedures. I know what you mean, you of course want a dr to do it, but I'm finding that more and more seems to be transferred to NPs or other clinical team members. And of course this whole shift to OB vs RE care will be different but I will take comfort in the fact that if they're treating me like normal high-risk then that's a good thing as it means the pregnancy is 'normal'? Not sure if that makes sense but I'm trying!

@mrsyng so glad to see that your NT scan went well and that you got to see your LO! that's such a surreal feeling.

@Momifbysea YAY, almost there! i was so glad to be done with PIO and my buttocks are too. The egg sized knots are slowly disappearing.

I just had my NT scan and the full blood panel to measure for chromosomal abnormalities and everything turned out perfect. Sex is a boy, which i knew from PGS testing, but still good to know now for sure. My nausea seems to have gotten worse, which is weird now that i'm 12 weeks and 2 days. But all else is well and feeling blessed everyday to be nauseous and to have this life inside of me! God is great!

    Hi everyone!

@Momifbysea I’m glad to hear that you made it through your trip and that the estrogen patch scare turned out okay!

@bkatp how did your appt go today?

I’m still doing well, 10w+3 today. One more long week until my first appt at my OB. I’m still extremely tired and have started getting headaches almost everyday. They are manageable, but make me want to nap even more. I still haven’t had morning sickness or nausea exactly, but I usually have a couple hours in the afternoon/evening of feeling “blah” and not wanting to eat or do anything at all. My diet hasn’t been great due to food aversions... I’ve been doing okay with fruit but veggies and protein don’t sound good at all. I just seem to want carbs!

We don’t know gender but I’m dying to know before Christmas. I think that some sort of gender reveal will be a fun gift for our parents. I’m going to ask at my appt if they have any options for a blood test or if they would suggest one of the genetic screeners that tell gender. If not, we have a place in town that will perform the Sneak Peak test.  I know you can buy it and do it at home, but I would prefer to have it done in a medical setting to hopefully avoid male dna contamination.

Ive dabbled in the June 19 moms thread, and read through some of PAIF, but I haven’t  fully jumped over. Maybe I will after my next appt, but I just enjoy our small group!

great updates everyone!  welcome back @momifbysea. despite the nausea, i hope you had a lovely trip and spending time with your loved ones.

congrats on the successful NT scans/tests @mrsyng and @babyhopeful442! very jealous! i'm still 1.75 weeks away. hoping my little one is following in your LO's footsteps!

AFM, 12 weeks today. survived the 1.5h flight to DH's family's place for turkey day.  still minor nausea that comes on quick if i don't eat every few hours. gonna assume that things are moving forward appropriately.

i'm curious -- now that most of us are nearing the second trimester, what has your weight gain/loss looked like in the first trimester? i'd been maintaining pre-preg weight, but did seem to gain a pound or so in the last week or so. i read online that it'll be 1-2/week in 2nd trimester... but also read that it would be variable (more gain in 2nd tri than third tri)... i also was able to find lower weight gain per week (.5-.7) if overweight (which i am).

anyone getting a bump yet? i'm a FTM, so none in sight yet... but definitely feeling more bloated in my lower abdomen and maybe pants getting more snug. :)

@kfs825 I had to travel for work last 2 days so had to move my appointment to next Tuesday. I have been little crampy since I stopped progesterone so I checked for heartbeat today using Doppler usually I never had huge trouble finding heartbeat but today I tried a lot at lot of places, but I can’t find heartbeat anywhere. I dunno what to make out of it. I’ll try again tomorrow.

I just have to hope  that everything is going ok and I am just not catching the beat

I couldn’t find this morning too

    Edited to add below

I am such a stupid person I didn’t check if the cord is plugged all the way in or not and started to worry about the heartbeat. I figured out that the cord is not plugged in after trying to listen to my own heartbeat and having no luck

I went crazy from yesterday night. My brain is all screwed up finally was able to hear after plugging in properly
