Re: Subchorionic Hematomas

  • @kvh22 it makes sense to me that we would bleed more when exerting ourselves.  I remember during postpartum period with my daughter,  I would get gushes of blood anytime I walked,  stood up, bent over,  etc. I think the exertion just helps to force the discharge out,  but Im not sure if it actually CAUSES us to bleed more.

  • @kvh22 I actually find that when I’m slightly active, like taking a walk or even mild yoga, that I have less colored discharge. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Who knows what the relationship is.

  • 13 wks today and SCH has not changed.... fx for week 20. OB said it shouldn't cause complications with delivery despite it being over my cervix.  The appt was super rushed this time so I didn't get many details.

He said keep the exercise light and maybe try light intercourse in a week since I havent had spotting in 4 weeks. Yeeek.

Doing 30 mins of light cardio (like eliptical) as often as I can cause I have gained 12 pounds in my 1st trimester....

    Anyone else have any updates?

  • @Jess4us I know no change seems disappointing but at least it hasn’t grown! That’s awesome news! I’m sorry your appointment was rushed. That’s always really frustrating. I have a doppler appointment with a midwife next Friday. Hoping to get more answers as far as sex then, since it’s been 2 months without it and 2 months of consistent brown spotting. I have a feeling it’s going to stay my entire pregnancy.

@jess4us I'm not sure if I ever updated from my appointment with MFM last week.  The SCH are still there. They're the same size but at least they haven't grown.
Thankfully,  I haven't spotted in a while.  I need to continue taking it easy.  I've been picking up my daughter to much recently. I know I'll regret it if I start bleeding again.  Oops!

  • @mrskoz428 thank you! And I hope you have some solid reassurance at your next appt.

@expandcontract really glad youre spot free still...being able to keep up with baby symptom free is a huge relief!

  • @Jess4us while I'm sure it's discouraging to still have the SCH, yours is so small that I would think it'd be a non-issue, now. Your doctor's advice seems the perfect level of cautious yet trying to let you live your life.

    @mrskoz428 I'm sorry you're still spotting. It's got to be a mind f*ck.

@expandcontract glad you're spot free and they haven't grown. I'm in the same situation...spot free for almost 2 weeks now but trying to force the modified bedrest and it's SO hard with a toddler.

DD scoots down the stairs on her butt to leave for daycare so I don't have to carry her on the rare morning DH has to leave early (he had a 7:30 dentist appt today). He's started doing it too now b/c she loves it. Well...from the 3rd step from the bottom she stumbled and face planted on the landing. I was right next to her but couldn't stop it and still don't understand how it happened since she goes on her butt. She's been doing this fine for a month. Scratched her nose and finger and is going to have a bump on her forehead. I had to pick her up, carry her upstairs to get the hydrogen peroxide, then carried her back down to go to the car. So I feel like a bad mom to her and to this LO inside of me this morning.

  • @kvh22 omg so far from being a bad mom...

I also think pregnancy brains makes me feel down right boneheaded.  :|

  • @kvh22 can’t prevent all the accidents kids are going to have. Don’t beat yourself up over it. It’s so hard with little ones to never pick them up. I have had to pick up ds2 a time or 2 and I also feel guilty after. I just try to remind myself that I am doing the best I can.
  • @kvh22 oh, I’m so sorry! You are doing amazing! I had to carry a table the other day because I was at school alone trying to organize my classroom after conferences. The guilt is real but sometimes, we do what we gotta do. And yes, the spotting is a complete mind fuck. I seriously think it’s just going to stay this why my entire pregnancy. At this point, it HAS to be coming from my cervix, right?!?

  • @mrskoz428 I used to think the same...WHAT IF it is cervix irritation. I don't know if your OB will check but mine says expect more brown blood.. I thought...doesnt brown blood mean that red blood is still slowly coming. The questions never end.  So afterall, he said as long as baby is growing along well the SCH are not interfeing with baby's development, breathe. I know nothing helps like finally getting free of any spotting but I hope your baby's growth is a reassurance for you.

  • @Jess4us oh it is, and the SCH was non-existent on my last ultrasound. It’s just confusing at this point!

  • I KNEW this would happen!  Today I woke up with no headache,  I can actually talk without being SOB. I was in such a good mood! And then BAM I'm bleeding again.  It's no a lot, like last time,  but it's more than spotting. It's brown with some pink.  Serves me right.  The second I start feeling better,  I start doing too much.  I've been picking up my daughter a few times this week. 😑😑 FX it's all old blood and it doesn't get heavy.

  • @expandcontract I'm so sorry. I had rust colored blood 2 weeks ago exactly, the day before my NT scan. It sounds like it might be similar to yours. It was more than spotting for a few hours but in no way a stream or gush. It faded to spotting and stopped within a day or two completely. The doctor was like "if it's not bright red, I'm not worried at all about it getting worse." I had not been over exerting myself at all, either. Basically, the SCH hadn't disappeared so I was status quo for modified bed rest but any bleeding that isn't bright red doesn't change anything for prognosis. Our babies are getting bigger every day so the SCH, as long is it's not growing, is less concerning.

  • Yes,  I remember @kvh22! That's why I'm not totally freaking out or calling my doctor because of what you ladies have said. My last U/S was last week and it hadn't grown, thankfully.  My next one is not until 12/6 so I definitely need to calm the eff down with exerting myself.

  • Looks like I developed another SCH- had bright red bleeding with clots today- went to dr and Doppler was good- their u/s machine was down so they used an old one- couldn’t see much so referred me over to hospital- have u/s at 1:30 central- hoping all is well- could you some prayers and good thoughts.
  • I'm sorry @bpietronicco . Thinking of you.  <3

  • @bpietronicco all the good thoughts your way! Hopefully it's small and a non-issue. Had they cleared you for all normal activity when you got the all clear on the SCH a couple weeks ago?

  • @bpietronicco praying now for quick healing and no impact on the baby 💗  So sorry youre going through this!

  • @bpietronicco praying for you! I hope it's really small and will absorb soon. Are you having cramping,  too?

  • I keep checking back to see if you've updated and get excited every time I see a new post hoping it's good news (she says as she contributes to this for others).

  • @bpietronicco sending positive thoughts your way.

I had my appointment this afternoon. I will have to wait until tomorrow for the OB to review the US but baby looked good wiggling around with a heart rate of 154 so that’s a relief.

  • @Stormiewinter I was able to ask the tech how big the measurement was. Did you get anything like that to ease your mind? So glad to hear baby was doing great!

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • @bpietronicco So glad to hear there was no active bleed! In regards to the headaches,  I had them, too, for 3 days straight with no relief.  And then today I woke up and it was gone.  You bring up a very interesting point.

  • @bpietronicco glad there is no SCH. Do they think it's just your cervix being irritated?

@expandcontract hmmm I have had 2 periods of headaches, but now I can't remember if they lined up with my bleeding.

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • @kvh22 they could tell it came from the uterus and I had bright red bleeding with clots- she checked my cervix. the OB thinks it was an SCH but there is no way to prove it as there was nothing on the ultrasound and it was a pretty thorough scan.  I am going to be super nervous for hopefully the next 26 weeks
  • @bpietronicco it was explained to me that the active bleeding is from the burst blood vessel or whatever, and that the sch is the “bruise” after the bleed. Often times if all the blood comes out there won’t be anything to see on the ultrasound. So glad your ultrasound went well!

I have a monitoring question for you all. My OB office doesn’t do any ultrasounds at all in the second trimester unless there is a cause. My last two ultrasounds with them I have been told the sch is gone, however at the NT scan they looked longer and found my original sch. It’s so much smaller at about 1cm but still there. My OB office still doesn’t want to do any ultrasounds and today only did the Doppler. Should I push for more monitoring? I’ve been bleed free for 5 weeks but scared to resume normal activity because it’s still present.
  • @jkduer that don’t do an anatomy scan at 20 weeks? That’s really unusual. Honestly, despite the constant brown discharge, I’ve been satisfied with just having doppler appointments. I was even able to schedule an optional 16 week doppler appointment. That’s the reassurance I need every month or so right now.
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @mrskoz428 I am having my anatomy scan done at 21 weeks (they wouldnt let me schedule it before then - weird) but that is at a different office from my OB. I did schedule a 16 week doppler appointment, I am just anxious going 8 weeks without a scan to check on the bleed. I am sure a lot of it its ftm nerves combined with infertility brain but I am really struggling mentally with the 8 week gap.
  • @jkduer oh I get it. FTM as well going 8.5 weeks between my ultrasounds. We had the NT scan at 12 weeks and a doppler at 13 which was reassuring. Our 16 week doppler is next Friday and I scheduled it for the peace of mind. If baby is growing (by me gaining weight since I have yet to gain weight this pregnancy and I’m 15) and the heartbeat is strong, I’m less worried about needing an ultrasound.
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @jkduer agree with @mrskoz428, you won't get an A/S? Mine is scheduled at 18 weeks. If there is no active bleeding, I won't get another ultrasound aside from that one. I believe if mine hasn't grown by then, I'll be cleared for exercise but still won't have another ultrasound after that one either way (again, unless I bleed red). I think at that point, the baby will be big enough that it's much less of a concern.

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • @jkduer my OB said anatomy is between 19-21 weeks so wherever my 4 week interval appointment lands closest to. Mine happens to be either 20 or 21 weeks but it has nothing to do with me being out of 2nd tri. Wonder what your OBs rational is..

  • @jkduer my MFM specialist said that even with the SCH still there,  what matters more is that the baby has a strong healthy heart beat. For that reason,  I can understand why your doc doesn't want to do any unnecessary U/S. Also,  as long as the baby is growing and the SCH is NOT growing is also what's important.  Baby is safe as long as the SCH is smaller than the baby.

  • @kvh22 our ultrasound office is a whole separate department and they literally tell you nothing but heart rate and sex of the baby. I asked about the SCH but the tech just said to follow up with the doctor.

@bpietronicco happy to hear baby looks good. As if we don’t have enough stress when trying to grow another human.

  • @Stormiewinter I'm glad the SCH resolved but so sorry that you now have more questions. How is your next appointment over a month away? Shouldn't you be seen every 4 weeks? I would ask to talk to your doctor sooner if possible, just to get an update on the size, location, etc. and discuss outcomes so you aren't stressing over the next month.

And more rust colored bleeding today with cramping.  This time I did call my doctor just to be on the safe side. Nurse said she'll leave a message for the doctor and see what she says.  In the meantime,  if I get any bright red bleeding or increase in cramping to call right back.  Im going to be taking it super easy this weekend.

  • Fingers crossed @expandcontract that all is good.  Keep us posted!
