Distracted by politics this week, so enjoy the double effort this weekend! Even if you’re not planning on a nursery per se, you will need some type of storage for baby stuff and some type of seat to comfort baby in, and likely some place to change baby. Tell us about it!
Clothing Storage: Give us the pros and cons of what you have, or ask about what you want. Dresser vs closet vs baskets vs a drawer in your dresser vs ?? What do you do with clothes that don’t fit yet/anymore? How much space do you actually need? Is there other relevant info?
Toy/Book Storage: open shelves? Closed cabinets? Baskets? Playroom? Do you keep toys in different parts of the house, and if so, how do you make the public part of the house acceptable for visitors?
Diaper Storage/Changing Station: Drawers vs baskets vs a dedicated changing table vs top of dresser (or other household object) - what worked and what didn’t? Were certain sizes better?
Rocking chairs/gliders/couches: what do you find comfortable for feeding? For settling? Is there a trick to getting up from these without waking the baby? Is it helpful to have a storage pocket on the outside, or a nearby small table? Are you just using your current furniture?
Other non-crib furniture-like things: What other additions do you need for the baby - rugs? Soft lighting? Mirror? Montessori-type ideas? High shelves? Small tables? Laundry baskets?

Re: Product Spotlight: Nursery Furniture
Toy storage: I use baskets for toys and shelves for books. I also need to upgrade this. Everything is a mess. Lol. When DD gets moved out of the nursery I plan to buy a toy bin and some bookshelves for her new room.
Diapers: I advocate just using the top of the dresser with a changing pad. I’ve been doing it for every single diaper change and am still doing so at 19mos because she’s not very tall. There’s room for the pad, and a diaper caddy and a wipes dispenser. I keep the caddy full with diapers I store extras of in the closet. The pockets on the caddy hold the rash creams. I don’t think a separate changing table is necessary, and takes up space. It was your basic three drawer dresser from ikea.
We use this glider: Windsor Glider and Ottoman-white with gray chevron https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017UHYOCK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8qZ5BbMZNF80S
I liked it and the storage pockets on the side. Still use it for bedtime stories, and I’ll use it for nursing this next baby.
However, when I was pumping and supplementing DD who wasn’t getting enough from the breast only, I used the couch in the living room, so I could have a dedicated space on the coffee table for the pump and supplies, water bottle, snack, etc.
Toy storage we use this from IKEA. I want to get another one when we finish the basement
Both kids also have a basic bookshelf in their rooms
Diaper Storage: We have a basket in their room and another one in the living room. We fill them with diapers, wipes, and cream.
Toy/Book Storage: toys live in a basket, books and wooden blocks on a bookcase, both in the bedroom so it doesn’t strictly need to be clean. There are a handful of library books and toys that live downstairs, but strictly limited.
Diaper Storage/Changing Station: we wanted a changing station when DD was born to contain all diaper supplies, especially because tiny one-bedroom place with way too much stuff. Moved, and cloth diapers ended up in a second basket with diaper cream and all sorts of burp cloths/blankets/misc cloth for wiping up messes. I like how little folding is required with the basket system.
Rocking chairs/gliders/couches: none of the above - we co-sleep so the bed was the primary piece of furniture used.
Other non-crib furniture-like things: The more high shelving the better!
We had practically no space when she was born and couldn’t fit a lot of extra furniture or things.
Clothes were stored in baskets/bins in a shelving unit we had in our room.
We had one of those big plastic laundry tubs for toys.
We bought a changing table and basically never used it, just changed her wherever was convenient.
Books were in a basket in the shelving unit.
Never had a glider. I have an antique rocking chair from my great grandma that I planned on refinishing and using but never got around to it. We mostly just used the bed since we co-slept after the first couple months.
Currently we have bookshelves that have canvas bins in our living room that hold 80% of her toys/books/coloring supplies. We also have some canvas totes for stuffed animals. Part of her clothes along with some of mine are in plastic dresser/drawer unit in the closet, some are hung.
I cannot wait to move to actually have a room for her.

Toy/Book Storage: We have a nook in our living room where all the toys are. We will be finishing the basement and then a chunk of them will be moved. We don't really keep toys in her room. We got a toy box around 6-8 months (after her first Christmas) to contain the ridiculousness.
Diaper Storage/Changing Station: Diapers go in the top left drawer of the dresser; we put a changing pad on top of the dresser and called it good. If I'm in other parts of the house, we change on the floor (which is all we do now anyways since we stopped putting DD on top of the dresser around one year old because, safety). I will have the PnP set up down in the living room and it will have changing necessities there as well.
Rocking chairs/gliders/couches: We had a glider and had a love/hate relationship. You will need SOMETHING in the baby's room. You will spend countless hours overnight holding a baby, who for the love of God, will not sleep in their crib. So please, get a rocking chair that reclines. Do NOT get a glider. My DH had so many back problems as a result!
Other non-crib furniture-like things: Rugs are pointless unless you want them for decor. We had a bookshelf in her room until about a month ago, when she climbed on it and it fell down (no, she wasn't hurt Thank GOD and yes, it was bolted to the wall). So now, we will get my old childhood bookshelf in there that is light and only has 3 shelves. LO will not have a bookshelf in his room. We will probably do DIY ones that we have done in our living room nook, that have stayed in and DD has not tried to climb them. I would get a basket of some kind because you will end up with a crap ton of quilts and other blankets that do not fit into a drawer. It looked cute for decoration but it also serves a purpose (now it has stuffed animals in there. Don't even get me started on the obscene amount of stuffed animals you will get. I hate them and throw the ones DD isn't attached to away).

With no2 we have no space, so, baby gets a few drawers in our room for clothes and swaddles. Then the cloth diaper stash is going to be above the dryer in that storage space (changing space on the dryer).
Toys are in dd room and in bins in the living room. We will try to get a few more in her room before baby needs a bin too.
We have bookeshelves full of books I love books.
We will most likely to the same setup for #2 since it worked out well for us

Toy/Book Storage: open shelves? Closed cabinets? Baskets? Playroom? We keep most toys in our he kids closets and dresser, see above. Books go on book shelf in a family room. Do you keep toys in different parts of the house, and if so, how do you make the public part of the house acceptable for visitors? We do have some small wicker baskets in our entertainment center and under the coffee table that we store a small collection of toys in.
Diaper Storage/Changing Station: Drawers vs baskets vs a dedicated changing table vs top of dresser (or other household object) - what worked and what didn’t? Were certain sizes better? We have and use a changing table it’s saved my back! I have 5 bins on 2 shelves under the changing area. We keep it out until kids start climbing it then it moves to the garage for storage or is used as a bookshelf.
Rocking chairs/gliders/couches: what do you find comfortable for feeding? Love the rocking chair and ottoman we bought! It’s the most comfortable thing I’ve ever sat in!!! Keep in mind how tall you are, where you will want your arm rests for feeding are they too high or low etc. We did purchase a night stand for the room and goes next to the rocket very handy for water, snacks, books etc for the nursing mom. For settling? Is there a trick to getting up from these without waking the baby? Keep rocking motion going with your body as you get up, gently lesson rocking and transfer to sleep surface. In my case lay down next to baby and nurse some more then sneak away.
Other non-crib furniture-like things: What other additions do you need for the baby - rugs? Laundry baskets are nice anything will do, toy storage -seriously they will have so many toys you will drowned in them!!
