Lemon-shape head - Anatomy Scan

Today was our 20 week anatomy scan and the doctor sees a slight lemon-shape to our baby girl's head. She says she sees it clearly in some photos.  It is not visible at all in other photos. There are no other concerns that she sees in the spine, brain, face. I took the panorama panel blood test while there today and am scheduled to get those results and another A/S in two weeks.  Has anyone else ever experienced this kind of situation or have any insight? TIA!

Re: Lemon-shape head - Anatomy Scan

  • Long time lurker but, my now 8 1/2 yr old son had the same marker. He also had additional ones as well and ended up being diagnosed with spina bifida in utero. His cerebellum was also “banana” shaped. Was showing increased fluid in his brain and eventually we saw the defect on his spine. So if her spine looks good and everything else too fingers crossed it’s something minor/unconcerning! FWIW, my sons head looks totally normal. Lemon shaped sounds weird but in actuality it’s a non issue in real life.

  • Longtime lurker. No advice but had my doctor call me yesterday (2 weeks after our ultrasound) and say she just noticed the radiologist added a note that he had spotted a gap between the first and second toe (sandal gap) which is a soft marker. They didn’t notice anything else unusual. We’re going back in for another scan. May be nothing or could be a soft marker for downs. Just wanted to send hugs and hope yours turns out to be nothing as well!
