Hi Mamas,
I thought it would be a great idea to start a thread to keep track of everyone's first OB appointment.
Also for the STM+ , any suggestions us FTMs should ask/find out about that you recommend from experience or something else you had wished you had done differently?
Re: When is your first OB appointment?
ETA: I haven't made my first appt yet. My OB gave me a choice to come in and do bloodwork and I declined. I'll probably call next week and make one. They can get me in pretty quick.

I love my OB but when it came to my loss last month I hate how she kind of jerked me around and gave me false hope. I don't want to go through that again so I want to wait a bit before I go in.

That leads me to some advice for everyone. Don't assume you will automatically get an ultrasound at your first visit. I did with my first and was upset that I wouldn't have one until 20 weeks, even though that its pretty common, I just wasn't aware. When you call to schedule, make sure you ask what all is involved in your first visit!
I agree with PP, ask what other doctors may be in your rotation to deliver you. I had never met the OB who delivered my son (I started to push in the middle of a shift change, go figure) and although he was kind and wonderful, it was the first male OB I'd ever seen and it was uncomfortable at first. I just didn't think to ask and looking back I wish I would've.

They wanted me to come in early because of recurrent loss. I have an RE appointment next week (they are just going to check if there is anything else that they can be doing to support this pregnancy that perhaps we didn't do for the two previous ones). Just like @nopegoat I HATED the false hope and ambiguity of the early scans so I have asked to push mine as late as they will let me. So I go on November 29th. I should be 9 weeks by then. The RE wants to do an early scan next week so I don't know what I'm going to do about it...but I'm going to try to get them to let me wait until the appointment on the 29th. Waiting sucks but the uncertainty of the last 2 times and the weeks of waiting after a bad scan were worse for me:/
So looking forward to seeing and hearing the heartbeat.
I ended up making an appointment for 8 weeks and then again at 12 weeks to hear the heartbeat. After that I was referred to my OB (who i loved!). At around 16 weeks we booked a private ultrasound to see baby but did not find out gender (team green). So this time around I think I'm going to bypass my GP and just call the OBs office around 6 weeks to see if I can get in with the same OB. Hopefully will have my first appointment by mid December!
Edited to add- I thought everyone had a 12 week NT scan but I see some saying first US won't be until 20 weeks. Is the NT scan optional?
depending on your age, your history, your insurance, and your doctor you may or may not get a scan before 20 weeks. I will get one at my 7 week appointment next week, I will be referred for advanced maternal/fetal monitoring for being old, fat, high risk, etc... will get blood testing and probably 2-3 other scans this pregnancy.
