Re: Registry Recommendations w/o 11/4

  • @kvh22 just curious.. I didn’t know there was recommended age to switch from high chair to booster, what is the age?

  • @aels12 this isn't from the pediatrician, just my googling although now the first article that comes up says earlier than what I'd read. I swear I'd read 2 - 2 1/2 but a parents.com article says 18 months to 2 years. You technically can do it once they can sit up really well without falling over (9-12 months) but DD is almost 15 months and I don't feel like this would be a good idea yet. I like the tray and everything for now. We started solids on the early side, just to get her a taste, and didn't do BLW (I was overly concerned about iron as I was deficient at the end of my pregnancy and we couldn't do delayed cord clamping due to meconium - I wanted to mix iron fortified oatmeal with the purees to start). DD will be 25 months when this LO is 4 months old and we'd start doingi just a tiny bit of puree's once a day.

  • @kvh22 we decided we're just going to use the pack n play as a second crib. We just don't have space for another full crib. Technically we could move DS to the daybed we have in his room (for guests) but idk. I guess we'll figure it out! Our current plan is bassinet in our room, then PnP, and hopefully they will be able to share a room sooner rather than later and at that point we'll figure it out. BOY do I want to buy a house. So over apartment life, still at least 2.5 years away from having a down payment. Maybe longer. Who knows. WHY ARE HOUSES SO EXPENSIVE.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge yes, pack n play in our room, probably for the first year (DD was in our room for 11 months). I think we're in a similar situation as you. 2BR apartment. We'll have to move out of the area we're in to buy a house we want (The bay area is $$$). This makes sense for now but we'll hopefully move in a year and a half-ish and be able to afford something somewhere else. DH moved here for my job so he's in charge of where we go next (although I get veto power on geography, but we're on the same page). I can work from home remote with my job in theory, although if I get a new boss, this could change. We always figured we'd move before a second kid needs to move out of our room but we wouldn't move without DH having something lined up so we shall see if the 2 kiddos have to share a room. I also like the ~2 year age gap but no idea how I'll feel that way about a 3rd or want some more time.

  • @kvh22 thanks for the info! I had never seen anything on it, we used the space saver high chair and did blw, I got rid of the tray around 14 months just because I was tired of how much room it was taking up around the table! Ds had been being pretty clean with his food before that so it wasn’t too big of a transition at least.

Whattttt?? I'm so impressed. DD wants everything off of her tray when she's done eating (cue wiping yogurt ALL over her tray). She'll also turn any bowls upside down to empty them out when we use them. She's miss independent now so wants to use a spoon or fork and won't let us hold her yogurt cup for her so it's even worse. She's always been an amazing eater, daycare comments all the time, so I'm okay with it but she is an absolute tornado lol. I'd much rather clean the tray than the kitchen table every night. It also keeps her from grabbing at our plates/utensils.

  • Any TTMs have great double stroller recommendations? My only requirement is that it take an infant seat with an adapter is fine since I will want to walk a lot pp before it gets too hot out. DH wants the in-line version, but I’m more partial to the side by side. We did both like the City Select Luxe with extra seat- but the cheapest we found it for is $600 which seems like a lot for a stroller we will only use 2 years.... maybe 3. I suppose we could probably sell it down the road though.
  • @chloe97 I'm a big fan of our Joovy Caboose Ultralight. Depending on how old your older kiddo is, you can get a proper seat for it or use the bench seat that it comes with. There's also a standing platform/handles if your older kiddo just wants to coast for a bit without actually sitting/strapping in.

I have never had a side-by-side, but knowing how my DDs were with carseats next-to each other... it would not have worked for us.

  • @kvh22 obviously now your only choice is a mini van  :#

  • @chloe97 we love our UppaBaby Vista.  It’s pricey especially when you factor in the extra seat etc, but they make new models like every year, and you don’t need the latest model.  My friends with the MountainBuggy Duet all swear by it as the best side by side stroller, but they all have twins. I don’t know if it’s better with same size kids or what.

For what it’s worth, the heavy duty in line strollers generally aren’t wider than the side-by-sides, they just look that way.  The in line double strollers have wide back wheels in order to accommodate the weight.
  • @kvh22 if I have my way, we will probably space out these kiddos 4-5 years as I cannot afford full time daycare for two kids on our income. It’s just not realistic. Unless my mother retires in the next couple years, we’ll need to wait until we can get this LO in half day preschool before trying for a 2nd, which is why I’m buying a EVERYTHING dual purpose! We’ll see if my plan actually happens. 😂😂

  • @sleepy33 NOOO!! Don't say that! I can get one of those SUVs with the 3rd row option, right?

@chloe97 I don't think this is *that* helpful but I found that if you do the Baby Jogger City Select separately instead of as the double (buy the second seat kit and the infant car seat adapter for your specific carseat) I could get it down to $500. Hoping to get it even lower on any black Friday sales. My neighbors are pretty money conscious and have girls 2 years apart (youngest is 15 months). They recommend and love their Bravo for 2 but I don't like how DD would be a second class citizen with a very tiny seat on the back. It's only $200 though and you could probably find a better deal.

  • @kvh22 go for the SUV! I’m just not a mini-van person. Don’t think I ever will be! My sister has 5 kids and doesn’t have a mini-van. Anyone can do it!

  • @mrskoz428 ahh okay, carry on, your plan makes sense. Just didn't want others to make the same mistakes I did (although maybe I would have done everything the same...not sure).

  • @mrskoz428 we keep cross-posting...what SUV does your sister have?

  • @kvh22 They have a Subaru Tribeca, I believe. I have a 2015 Nissan Rogue that has lame third row seating but would be perfect for booster seats, as the regular seat sits low to the ground. I can fit all my nieces and nephews (ages 8-17) in it plus DH and I, which I love.

  • Another vote for the Infant Optics monitor. We’ve had ours for 2 years with no problems.  It also allows you to add a second camera which is convenient.

For an infant car seat, we had the Chicco Keyfit30 travel system and liked it. For a convertible car seat, we have the Graco Extend2Fit. I liked it because you can rear face up to 50 pounds.

    +1 for the SwaddleMe swaddles.

Would you all say a double stroller would be worth it for an almost 3 year old? He’s never been a big fan on being contained in a stroller, so part of me wonders if he’d even ride in one. Thoughts?
  • @megsb615 if it were me I’d look for a ride-on board to attach to your stroller rather than a double, especially if your LO already isn’t crazy about being contained.  If you were doing an outing that required a ton of walking and thought your 3yo may tire or need a nap I’d just put a baby wrap or carrier in your stroller basket and wear baby if big bro needed the stroller seat.  If it’s likely to be an infrequent occurrence I would personally opt for that route rather than shelling out unnecessary $$ on a double

  • @chloe97 I know you were looking for different recs but the only double we’ve had was the City Select (not Lux, it came out after I bought mine).  We love it.  The quality is amazing and resale value is very high in my area too.  I don’t actually need the double anymore since my youngest will be just weeks shy of her 4th bday so I am seriously contemplating selling it now and using the money to buy a new single that is maybe a little less bulky but still super solid.

@mrskoz428 I have to second that given the amount of times I've needed to wash feces off my carpet. Have also done the egg thing, but since he was allergic I was less concerned about the carpets. I couldn't even tell you how many different spills I've cleaned. Oh. If you really want a good investment.... Leather couches 😂 but this may be a bit much so soon.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds seeing that 90% of our flooring is carpet, it’s the first thing I did when she tagged me in the post! 😂😂😂 Sadly, no budget for leather couches, and dog nails plus leather scares me! 😱 Hipefully we spend lots of time on the floor! 😂

  • @mrskoz428 you might be way better at keeping food out of the living room than we have been but our microfiber couches were SO gross when we finally tossed them 🤢 but yes, we were worried about dog nails too. With real leather, it hasn't been a problem at all.
  • I just replaced my couch and I got one with removable, washable covers in preparation...I hope that is enough for sticky fingers!
  • @lappymom2019 we are in the market for new couches and I think we’ve settled on slipcovered sofas for now too.  I’ve read several positive blog reviews on the IKEA Ektorp series and while it’s not my absolute favourite look I think it more or less suits my modern farmhouse style and I can jazz them up with throw blankets and pillows.  Plus I love that additional slipcovers are quite inexpensive.  I’m buying a spare set right from the start so that we can trade them out when one goes into the wash.  I actually didn’t find that my kids were all that hard or messy with furniture in the early days, it’s been as they’ve gotten older that it is so much worse.
