Re: Nursery Planning & Ideas

  • In my head I’d like to think I’ll do some kind of modern travel theme. In reality I’m going to be super impressed if I manage to get a crib, dresser, chair, rug AND curtains all in the room before baby gets here.

The walls are grey if that counts for anything.
  • Loading the player...
  • I guess you'd call ours girly outdoors. The walls are going to be gray and pink. This is the bedding.

  • We painted a feature wall forest/90s green and the rest off-white. We have white and pine furniture (sitting in boxes) and white window treatment on the windows. I’d still like to find a new light fixture and get a little table for beside the chair.
Besides that, our decor is super minimal and neutral, so I don’t imagine the nursery will be any different
  • We are doing his room in a safari theme. We lucked out big time. Apparently a friend of mine also did safari for one of her sons and gave us a valence(just learned what that was!), Crib bumbers, night light and decor and sheet sets. So we just need to clean the room(it was a junk room/rescue kitty room) and set it up. And buy a crib. She also gave us matching high chair, swing, stroller and pack n play. Plus car seat and 2 bases.
  • Kids will share a room once this baby is sleeping longer stretches. Kind of a nautical theme - DS’s side is gray, navy, light blue and a little bit of green. This baby’s side will be gray, navy, blush and some of the same green. All the furniture is white.
  • No theme for me. Neutral, white walls, white furniture, white blinds, Lol!  Sister and my coworker are knitting blankets, so that'll be what's used in the crib. They are both gender neutral colours.
We've got a grey glider/recliner, white ikea cart, white double bed with a grey/neutral duvet, and a white dresser.
Getting the white crib this weekend, need a dim light, was thinking salt lamp, haven't decided, probably a rug and the change pad to throw on top of the dresser
Minimalist here I come!  Baby's sleeping in our room at first anyway, so the room will mainly be a guestroom til baby outgrows the bassinet/box.
  • @cass06_07 we used a salt rock lamp as night light for MOTN feedings and changings for DD and loved it. Such a peaceful, soft glow and it looked nice too.
  • I've decided on a tribal theme for the baby's room (which is slowly going to take over our home office). It was that or a Southwest theme.
I've been looking at a grey 4 in 1 crib. Originally wanted white crib, but thought that grey would be better in the long run.
    I've purchased NOTHING~! :-)

  • @megpants209 That is a nice lookin' crib!
  • LO will be sharing DS room which we did in blues and whites with gray elephant accents.  Same goes for this little guy coming along!

  • @megpants209 that crib is gorgeous.
  • @ohsunnydays and @BourbonBiscuits thanks! It’s not fully convertible (just to toddler bed) but it’s so classic and neutral that we’d definitely use it for future kids.
  • Keeping the nursery the same as we did for DD. Grey and white with elephants! It’s pretty boring but we’re team Green!
  • Our nursery is going to be dark blue with a sea animal theme. Working on getting all of the decorations together still. We are probably moving next summer so we want the room to be done nicely but not too hard to recreate in the next house!
  • Our nursery is going to be a bit eclectic, I think. A vague animal theme but that's about it. I hope it turns out cozy and functional.
  • @megpants209 I am having serious closet envy right now!
  • @changadee I was thinking about getting an ikea dresser too. Do you mind sharing what you’re getting? Need ideas. Like you I just want to add a changing pad.
  • Thank you @changadee this is helpful! I am on the shorter side so will check out Malm dresser :)
  • I have my eye on the single width Hemnes dressers @changadee! Have you built it? Does it feel good?
  • Joining Team Ikea Dresser! The one I’m considering is the Björksnäs.

Hoping to make it to Ikea sometime soon. H hates going so I’ll need at least a week to mentally prepare him!

    DD born 4/1/2023

  • @changadee oohhh I always forget how pretty Hemnes is!
  • @ohsunnydays , we got the malm one, just three drawer and plan to stick a change pad on top.  Height is good for me (5'6", and Dh is 6'1", also good for him.  We have the 6 drawer version in our bedroom, which is probably where the change pad will go first before we transition baby to their own room later on.
  • @ohsunnydays our house is decent in sq footage size but seriously lacking in storage space AND room size so for our sanity we have to finish our closets. It’s pricey but has been a life saver in our master and I know it will here too.
  • @megpants209 that is totally worth doing! We redid our pantry with the container store elfa sale recently and I’m obsessed!
Bummed I can’t redo the nursery/office closet because we gotta share it with office type stuff  :D
  • We're in an apartment and will be moving in July, so we're not doing anything permanent, but we're doing a loose "forest animal" theme. I have a red dresser from PBK that I'll also use as a changing table, much like @kayjay44. But those IKEA ones are so pretty!
Has anyone tried the cribs from IKEA? We're looking at the Gulliver.

  • We are possibly going to be moving in the summer so I think we are just going to paint the room a neutral color and not really much of a theme. Right now the room has a ton of junk in there that has to be cleaned out to paint and then set up with the bed, dresser with changing pad on top and chair that we used in DS’s room. Then we have to move an extra dresser from the basement into DS’s room. I still feel like we have so much to do in that room but for some reason I’m just not in a hurry like I was the first time
  • @hannahbananas11 I was curious about the Gulliver at  IKEA too. I am between that one and a Davinci one.
  • We are using the same teal walls as DS1 used. She moved to a new room so the nursery looks like a bomb went off... As does the hallway. Going with more of a color theme than anything since we are team green. Teal, grey, green and navy blue. Once baby comes, we can add to it. I'm refinishing a dresser that DH is painting this weekend so I can't wait to see it in the room!

My husband really wanted to build the crib and the changing table and got plans and back everything. Since he was building a crib I figured the natural wood inspired us to go rustic and from there it became somewhat a woodland theme. Seems very popular right now. We started fairly neutral with tan walls but one forest green accent wall. Once we found out that it was a boy, we were more bold about choosing more masculine decor but I don’t want to go get carried away. I’d like to be able reuse a lot of what we get even if we have a girl next. I’m so excited to get this nursery together though! My husband has a few house projects he is hustling through before we get to it though.
  • @becks_726 we bought the single width Hemnes dresser, it feels pretty solid.
  • @thechickendance I'm so glad to hear that! My Ikea shopping list is growing by the day.
  • DH and I chose a Jungle/Rainforest theme, which I still love although I'm finding it to be a bit frustrating that a lot of companies seem to think lions and giraffes live in the jungle. We have a crib that we got second hand from a friend and an old dresser that we've always had, which happens to be a great size and height for a changing table.
  • @becks_726 it is super lovely, sturdy and feels great. The drawers might show their cheapness with a few years of wear but hey, it's Ikea. I will warn you this is a BEAST to set up! It took us 3.5 hours and that was DH and I working together the whole time and not having to take it apart cause we made a mistake, we got lucky lol. Do some real good stretches beforehand and make a playlist lol you'll be working a while, even on the smaller version I'm sure.
