  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? 2 girls, 5 & 3

How are your other kids doing this week? They've been good.  We spent the Thanksgiving long weekend at DH's sister's house.  They love hanging out with their cousins (age 11 & 9) even if the cousins may be tiring of them sometimes, lol.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I am having the hardest time getting my butt in gear these last few weeks.  I am sure that I haven't ever been hit with pregnancy exhaustion to this degree.  I fell asleep with my 3 year old at 7:30 last night and didn't wake up until 7am.  I also napped for over an hour on the drive home from SIL's yesterday and took an earlier nap on her couch before we left.  Its out of control.  Needless to say, I haven't been super active lately, but I am going to try and drag myself outside for a good brisk walk or run every day this week and see if it helps boost my energy a bit.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D )  I really don't think anything.  We may have some big transitions come up (possibly 1-2 moves) but they won't be because of baby.  In my perfect world, move #1 will be right after Christmas and move #2 not until after baby, maybe August-ish.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? One DD- 3 1/2 years old

How are your other kids doing this week? She's doing okay. She's been under the weather though.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Nope- not much. Ready for my appointment on Thursday (finally!)

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Nothing really since my DD is going to be over 4 when the baby is born, she has already done all of those major transitions.
    DD1- Feb 2015
    DD2- EDD 5/12/2019
  • @coffeeislife That's so nice you have no more transitions to worry about and can just focus on your LO! Not to say you'll be ignoring DD, but you know what I mean.

@mcewen3 Hope you had fun at Thanksgiving! I feel you on being so. tired. I've found going for a walk after work with the dog definitely helps. But as soon as I come back in and lay on the couch, it's all downhill from there.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
1 DD who is 15 months

How are your other kids doing this week? She's doing really well. She's been sleeping in until almost 7 (usually up around 6:15/6:30) and it's been so nice getting myself ready before she's up. Once she's up, we snuggle and read some books in the glider and then she "chooses" her clothes  :D It's so cute. I've been trying to let her pick things (this book or that book? these shoes or those shoes? etc).

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Happy to have DH back home! He was gone all weekend. The French cologne guest is leaving Sunday thank the lord. Ready to have our house back to normal. Also, someone brought rice crispy treats into work today and I'm loving it. I haven't had these in years!

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. Definitely keeping DD in her crib as long as possible. She hasn't shown any signs of trying to climb out yet, so we won't be switching to a toddler bed for the moment. May work on the potty training  bit more when she hits 18 months, but not forcing it. Other than that, no real transitions that I can think of! I think having a new baby around will be more than enough to worry about.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 ds, 20 months

How are your other kids doing this week? He has hand foot mouth :( he mostly just has a nasty rash and decreased appetite, but he’s mostly acting like himself, just a bit more tired/moody. I think we are pretty lucky in how he’s handling it, taking care of him hasn’t been too rough, the hardest part was juggling our schedules since he is out of daycare this week from it.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Nothing really!

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Ds has been starting to do some potty training, we are just taking it at his pace right now. We will probablg hit it harder this winter when he’s closer to two, but I’ve heard about potty training regressions after a new baby so we will see how he’s doing. We cloth diaper so aren’t really concerned about two in diapers or anything. He will move to a new room but will stay in his crib until he’s climbing out, which he’s shown no signs of yet thankfully. Hopefully he stays in the crib until about 3, then we can transition.

    2 dds, 5 & 2.5

How are your other kids doing this week?
They’re doing pretty well. I love seeing how much dd1 enjoys school (she just started K). Dd2 is a wild child rn and is at that stage where she is climbing up on stuff and getting into things, any chance she gets. 🙄😆

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
Not sure if anyone can relate, but the marked differences in this pregnancy so far vs my previous two is really throwing me for a loop.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives?
Dd2 is going to get a twin bed too. She and dd1 share a tiny bedroom so I think the only way we’re going to be able to have two twins in there is to do a bunk bed. DH likes building stuff and has been looking at plans to make a low bunk bed (where the lower bunk is on the floor and the upper bunk is about waist-height) for them. Probably going to be a late winter project.

5 y/o has her first loose tooth and it has me really emotional 😭
3 y/o is at such a sweet age. She's just an easy going, happy kid 😍

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
Back pain and all day nausea 🤢😬

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom.

None really.  eventually the two older girls will share a room, but not until the baby is at least one or so.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? One DS who is 2yo

How are your other kids doing this week? Good! He’s been a lot of fun, but exhausting. I got him back in tumbling classes and he is loving it. We are having a hard time getting him to nap, but he’s a hot mess if he skips it.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? My MIL was in town this weekend and DS was up my butt the entire time. He would only interact with her if I wasn’t there. A small, tiny part of me feels bad, but the bigger part feels like that’s what she gets for being so uninvolved.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? We are going to start potty training this winter. We have a full sized mattress for DS, but he’s really content in his crib for now.
  • @secicc12 That's so cute she chooses her outfit!

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD just turned 1

How are your other kids doing this week? Pretty good, I have to thank everyone who chimed in on how to get DD to take milk!  She now is drinking it without a problem. Next battles: Bottle to sippy cup, and also trying to encourage DD to walk (she seems really scared to do it on her own).

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Not really at the moment, DD is just super cute at this age and it's really fun.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom.  We don't have any big transitions in mind for then, so I think we just want to get her bedroom (and our entire house, we just moved) set up.  I don't even know where to start.  I just want to get the walls at least painted but we can't even decide on that.

How are your other kids doing this week?
He's been having a few more problem behaviors than normal, and begging not to go to school in the morning. But he's okay.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I'm very nervous for my elective ultrasound on Friday. I've just been such a wreck that I need to know baby is safe.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom.

No big transitions really, but we are moving here soon. He's lived in this house for most of his life so that might be rough.
  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? 2 DDs, ages 5.5 and 2.5

How are your other kids doing this week? Going to school/daycare as usual. Trying to play outside and enjoy this Indian summer before fall/winter fully sets in.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Totally not pregnancy related, but is "Indian summer" an offensive term?

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D )
Hoping to potty train and wean DD2... will probably not work out like I am magically envisioning.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages?  2 boys ages 3 and 6

How are your other kids doing this week? Kids are good, they enjoyed the long weekend! DS1 got to spend some alone time with me today since he didnt have school but DS2 did. I felt bad I was kind of no fun :/

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I honestly just feel bad that I dont have the energy to do much. I've been so tired and nauseous and they dont know why since we haven't told them yet! Luckily we plan to tell them soon!

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom.- Luckily we already have the boys in a room together and DS2 was potty trained a month ago!

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 DS who will be 2 next month (Um, WHAT!?)

How are your other kids doing this week? He's good! We showed him a pic of the US and he said "baby" which was super sweet. I don't think he completely "gets" it, but it's still exciting that he said that!

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Trying to figure out how to save money more since I am only getting 60% pay while I am on leave so it will be interesting to see that goes!

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. We need to ditch the pacifier soon. It's going to be tough because he really loves it at bedtime. He calls it "fries" which just kills me. I am totally dreading it.

How are your other kids doing this week? They're good! We had a busy thanksgiving weekend, but have settled right back into the week pretty easily.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? My poor second baby is turning 2 on Saturday and I've planned NOTHING. We haven't invited anyone over to help us celebrate, no cake, not even any presents yet. I always want to make a big deal of my kids' birthdays, but last year, very few people were actually able to come for her first birthday, so I guess I don't want a repeat, which means I've just been ignoring it and now it's almost here.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D ) I definitely want to potty train DD2. It was so easy with DD1 and she was fully trained shortly after she turned 2, but I definitely think it's going to be harder this time around.

  • @mcewen3 the exhaustion for me too is unreal this pregnancy. I can barely keep my eyes open during the afternoon and I keep falling asleep putting the boys to bed!

How many kids do you already have? Ages?

    2 boys ages 5 and 2.5

How are your other kids doing this week?
They are constantly wrestling every time I turn around someone is whining or crying but then they run right back I to the fray. I am over it. On the bright side ds2 had his 6 month follow up with the pulmonologist (he was diagnosed with asthma in February) and they are really happy with how well his action plan is controlling his asthma. Since we had to drive into Syracuse an hour away we made a little date out of the day and he and I went to lunch and to the zoo. So nice to have some one on one time with him.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
My house looks like a bomb went off and ils are here this weekend. I just wish I had more time to clean!

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives?

we are in the process of potty training so hoping that is done by then. At some point the boys will need to share a room and ds2 will have to give up his crib, but not until the baby is 6 months +
  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 son, 15 months

How are your other kids doing this week? Great!

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I posted this In symptoms thread, but I'm worried bc my nausea went away at 8 weeks, and I've developed bacterial vaginosis. I thought I was keeping cool this pregnancy, but now I'm pretty nervous until my next US next week. Anyone have experience with bacterial vaginosis?

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D ) DS will stay in a crib and he won't be potty trained yet. But we will move him to a bigger room-- I don't think he'll care??
  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 DD who is 2 this month

How are your other kids doing this week? Grandma and Grandpa are visiting because daycare is closed, so she's in heaven.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Waiting for my panorama results is going to feel like an eternity. I turned in the blood work Monday afternoon, so soonest would be next Monday (5 business days), latest would be next Thursday (7 business days, starting from Tuesday)

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D ) We don't need the crib for Beta until they're 5 or 6 months, so we won't transition there yet. We'll only do potty training if DD is ready, with the understanding that there may be a regression, but she doesn't seem ready right now, so no rush. DD will stay in the same bedroom and Beta will join her eventually. Yay 2 bedroom house!

How are your other kids doing this week? good! She is cruising along furniture like a pro. Twice I've seen her let go of whatever she's holding and stand for like, 2 seconds. I booked an indoor playground for her first birthday in a couple months because all our friends have toddlers and our house isn't big enough to host, so I'm selfishly hoping that DD will be able to walk a little by then so she can enjoy herself.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? DH's brother is still shocked that we're having another baby while we still have a baby, and even had the balls to ask if this was planned. I'm just rolling my eyes. They have a 3yo and I believe they're trying for #2 now. He is very much in the mindset that his way is the right way. Whatever.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D ) Our master bedroom is massive with a lot of wasted space, so we're turning it into 2 bedrooms - so we'll have 3 all together. DD will stay in her room and baby #2 will go to his/hers. We'll move the rocking chair and changing table into the baby's room while we start slowly transitioning DD's room into a big girl room hopefully, even though she's still just a little one.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? One son- 2 years old.

How are your other kids doing this week? He’s been doing good. He’s got such a funny little personality. So a little back story, my son loves playing with my hair when I put it up and calls it my “tail”. He’s also obsessed with our cat and meows, but that’s a story for another day. Haha Anyway, yesterday when I was getting his dinner ready, he was screaming “no” about not wanting to eat his dinner because he wanted a Fig Newton. I told him we don’t yell, and to sit at his table and eat, and he could have one after dinner. Of course he wouldn’t, so I told him I was going to take out my tail if he didn’t sit down and eat, and what do you know. He did!  Husband was like, you’re seriously bribing our child with your hair? 😂 I guess so? No shame in my game. 💁🏼‍♀️

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? My bloodwork appt this week got rescheduled because of Hurricane Michael. So now I get to do that and have the Doppler done at 10 weeks all in one appointment like I wanted! Less time I have to take off work= win!

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D ) I’m praying we can somehow get this child potty trained by the time new baby gets here. He literally shows ZERO interest, so I don’t even know where to begin. He’s two.. I mean, it’s time! I plan on keeping him in the crib as long as he’s not crawling out.
  • @secicc12 Yay for getting your house back and not having to smell strong cologne anymore!!

@kbelly777 Glad to hear 3 has been a sweet age bc most people say it’s worse than 2, and that scares me to death bc 2 can be pretty terrible sometimes. 😂

@DressageDarling What all do they do at tumbling? Basically just run around? My son is obsessed with “big jumps” right now, and I feel like he’d enjoy something like that. And hopefully it’d get some energy out too!

@zuuls_mom  The 60% of pay on leave does suck, but it’s definjtely better than nothing. I think I only went one pay period unpaid once my PTO ran out, and that was rough! Reminds me that we need to go ahead and start trying to save too. Also bc 2 in daycare will be like a second mortgage 😩

@eatinwatermelonseeds Hope your ultrasound goes well!
  • @peachy13 lol at YH's brother! My brother apparently wants his kids 4 years apart so he doesn't have to pay for college at the same time. They just had their first in August and he also made the comment that all of his friends had an easier time getting pregnant with #2 so it will be easier for them. I gently told him his friends have kids 2 years apart...you're slightly more fertile w/in 18 months of a pregnancy but after that it's not easier most of the time. He seemed a little shocked.

    @aels12 sorry about HFM :(

    @eatinwatermelonseeds good luck on Friday!

@secicc12 OMG Love that she picks her outfit! I laid out DD's outfit this morning and then went into the kitchen to get a banana. Come back into the living room and her shirt is gone! She loves picking up clothes walking around with them, and leaving them somewhere else. Clothes are toys, not fashion statements. I had to go get a new shirt b/c I couldn't find where she put the first one  :D

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD is almost 14 months

How are your other kids doing this week? Good. A bit fussy but she has teeth coming in. We finally realized we need to give tylenol before she goes to bed instead of when she wakes up screaming in the MOTN. Lifechanging and perfect timing as I'm solo parenting today through next Wednesday.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? DH was so sad to leave this morning and is worried DD will think he's not coming back. I said she'd be fine which was apparently wrong

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D ) Haha I chose this GTKY and we won't be making any transitions. DD will be too young for any of this but I am thinking through what transitions we'll make around 4-6 months (booster seat so this LO can use the high chair) or later - trying not to buy a second crib but I don't know that the 21 month spread is going to allow that. DD slept in our room in the pack n play until 11 months so...

  • @kvh22 FWIW, we were planning to buy a second crib for DD2 once she outgrew the bassinet (there's exactly 24 months between DD1 & DD2) but DD1 ended up climbing out of her crib at 22 months when I was still pregnant.  If you plan on using the pack n play in your room to begin with then I would highly recommend holding off buying a new crib until the last second.  For us, neither one of our girls showed any sign of attempting to climb out of their crib until the day they did it.  22 and 24 months respectively.

  • @msb615 It ends up being a lot of running around haha A lot of it is starting basics (headstands, somersaults, jumping) with a huge emphasis on proper form, so it’s teacher/partner assist. They do a lot of cute little obstacle courses too. The biggest thing for DS is it’s helping him learn to take turns and to listen. It’s exhausting for both of us.
  • @DressageDarling I didn’t even think about the taking turns and listening aspect. Lord knows he needs so much help in that department. I’ll have to check into it. I’d probably be embarrassed with how bad he is with taking turns, but he’d probably enjoy it. 😂
  • @msb615 There have been many many meltdowns over waiting at tumbling, but he is not the only one losing it so I never felt too bad about it. It just gets to be kind of eye roll worthy after a few times haha
  • How many kids do you already have? 1 daughter, age 4

How are your other kids doing this week?  Doing well...definitely psyched about having a baby brother (she insists it’s a boy) and she’s named him Toby, which is the baby in the 80s movie Labyrinth with which she’s obsessed.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? So much harder this time around bc I can’t nap and rest when I want to! So many responsibilities lol

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D ) I’m terrible and my daughter sleeps in our bed with us so we need to continue to push her to sleep in her own bed. It’s getting crowded :D
  • @poshspice Thank you! I’ll have to get that and try it. He can sing his ABCs pretty good, so maybe that’s a good sign. I know they’re working with him at daycare, but I almost wonder if it’s making it worse since he seems so against it at home when I ask if he needs to use the potty. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Hawaii will be super nice at least! I feel your pain though because DS won’t sleep in a pack and play either on vacations, so none of us get that great of sleep when he’s in bed with us. Hopefully this one goes a little smoother for y’all!
  • @elliebo I completely forgot him sleeping in our bed isn't normal 😂 yes, that's something we need to transition too lol. How did I forget that?
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I feel so much better with her right next to me! My heart’s not ready 🤦‍♀️
  • @elliebo I totally took being a FTM for granted. Coming home from work and just lounging on the couch all night with zero responsibilities. Ahhh.

How are your other kids doing this week?
She’s great. I’m solo parenting all week and she’s been cooperative. She’s learned to nod her head yes now when I ask her questions.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
Sleeeeeeep. I do not remember being so sleepy last time.

GTKY: What transition are you going to try to make before baby arrives? Example: crib to bed, potty training, new bedroom. (Stolen from April 19 and June 19  D

Mark me down in the too early to transition DD to the crib category. She will be 22 or 23 months. #2 will sleep in our arms reach cosleeper until she/he outgrows it and then maybe we will try a pack and play and DD is ready for a big girl bed. The only issue is that DD will be sharing a room with this LO eventually and I feel like DD May try to put stuff in her crib. Sigh. I don’t think we will even attempt potty training until well into my maternity leave. I know any success we would have would regress after the baby is here.
  • @chloe97 So true about the potty training regression. I’ve been considering that too. I wonder if it’s better to just not try to train at all or power through after the baby is here and get back on track. Also I just realized our girls are the same exact age! So cute your DD nods her head when you ask questions. They’re seriously becoming little people.

  • @secicc12 we’re you in June 2017 BMB? I was in July since DD was due 7/1. I lurked June a lot though because I felt so far ahead of everyone else. LOVE this age. She’s learning more everyday and is super communicative and not too headstrong yet- except about wanting Mac and cheese. All of the time.
  • HA I can’t blame her for wanting Mac n cheese! I love this age too, especially letting her just wander about without me having to carry her everywhere/guess where she wants to go. I was actually in the August BMB but had her 5 weeks early in the beginning of July!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @chloe97 and @secicc12 as a BTDT mom of girls with a similar age gap to what you will have, I can say that I had the exact same worries.  DD1 turned 2 right around my due date with DD2.  We had always agreed to wait to attempt any major changes (crib transition and potty training in particular) until after the new baby came to avoid regressions, etc.  In the end, we ended up just following her lead because she does everything on her own schedule.  She hoisted herself over the side of her crib at 22 months during her nap time so we quickly converted the crib to a toddler bed that afternoon.  Then when I was 40 weeks pregnant she started insisting on using the potty.  To my surprise we never had any real issues with either one.  The potty training wasn’t instantaneous, but we never saw a regression either.   My best advice would be to take each day as it comes and to follow your LO’s lead.  Don’t stress over those transitions/milestones and just let them sort of happen naturally.  There’s never a really great time to try any of those things when you have a new baby, but when the older one is truly ready it goes so much smoother.  Obviously each child is different, but for us it worked and made the transition from 1 to 2 much easier.

  • @chloe97 @secicc12 @mcewen3 Now y’all have me wondering if it would even be worth it to try potty training DS (2yo) before the baby gets here, or if he’d probably just end up regressing. I feel like he’s going to stay in diapers forever at he rate he’s going, but I’d be frustrated if I thought we had him potty trained just to do it all over again once the baby got here. Why is there not a potty training school I can send him to for a long weekend or something??
  • @msb615, I feel like 2 is still pretty young as far as potty training goes. My son was 3 and some change when he potty trained. Pushing it any sooner got poop all over my walls.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds Oh god, no.. definitely don’t want poop on the walls. I guess I’ll see people on Facebook potty training their 18m over a long weekend and continuing to post how he’s only had one accident today that I’m like, wait what? My 2 year old pitches a fit about even sitting on his little potty, so I hardly even try. I’m really hoping daycare will just do it....
  • @msb615 our daycare did lol. But as long as he's not interested, just leave it be. He's not going to go to kindergarten in a diaper, he'll get it. Boys are sometimes a bit slower on the potty training front. They can go as long as 4 years. Mine caught on super quickly just after 3.
  • @msb615 definitely wait until he shows you he’s ready.  It’s not worth the fight.  You can get some books about the potty and start to talk about it more, then let him take the lead from there.  I haven’t potty trained boys (and I have heard it’s different) but my experience with both girls was to wait until they showed me they wanted it.  It was around 2 for them, but I have several friends who’s kids were closer to 3.  It just depends on the kid
