We don’t agree on any names. Except for one boy one. We had the hardest time naming DD. And with our twin boys, it was really easy! So if this one is a girl, we probably won’t be able to decide until the last minute. Here are the running list of first/middle names that didn’t make the cut the last two times.
June (I am a June baby myself) Pearl warren archer grace ford everett Ruby kate
Boy: (most to least favorite) - Jackson Gregory (my maiden name is Jackson, Gregory is DH’s middle) - William James (William is both of our grandfathers names. Both have passed) - Benjamin Zane (Zane is my brothers middle name and means John in Gaelic)
Girl: (most to least favorite) - Amelia Grace (Amelia is DH’s great aunt) - Claire Marie (Marie is SIL’s middle name) - Juliet Abigail (Abigail is my sister’s name)
I guess mine are less in order of favorite and more in order of how the rest of our children will be named. We want two more after this one. So each list allows if we have 3 boys or 3 girls.
@srscott3 our names our crazy similar. We also had Juliet, Amelia, and Marie on our list at one point.
Our sons middle names were William and Willard after their paternal grandfathers. ❤️ We talked about doing Will as a middle name if this one is a boy to tie it to the twins.
Our names are pretty set ( I think.....) due to the fact that we had picked names earlier this year. I'm still pretty hung up on them...
Boy will likely be Isaac Arthur. This could change but highly unlikely.
Girl will be Sage Marie. This has been FACT since we met. Lol
Since our last name starts with G I have to watch for words. Example, I wanted DS to have Arthur for middle but then... NAG. So no. He ended up getting my dads name since he was diagnosed with cancer and went through treatments during my pregnancy.
For a girl it used to be Ella Diane or Claire Diane but we had a friend name their daughter Ellie Claire so we have been rethinking girl names. Right now we like Annie June. Boys is going to be hard for us. We already used our two favorite family names - Jack Miles. I have no idea what we will do for a boy. We like using family names so some options are Jimmy, Jasper, Thomas, William, Torrence, Zachary and Dan. I don’t know how I feel about any of those. Good thing we’ve got time!
IfIborn female: Margaret Patricia male: Wyatt Oliver. Though I don't want to be settled yet at this point because we are team green so we have lots of time to talk about it. So while we are settled I am pretending we aren't so I can keep talking about it lol
We really like Logan for a boy but can’t decide on a middle name. My grandpa (who I adore) is named Marcelino, which is the Spanish version of Marcel, but he goes by Max. So Max or Marcel are middle name possibilities.
We have no clue on a girl name. It took us forever to decide on DD’s name (Lucy Brielle). H likes Mila, which I also don’t mind but I think there is something better. I really like Indie but can’t talk H into it.
I love so-called antique names and would like to name little one after one of my grandparents (Clyde and Marjorie) but BF is not sold on those. Right now Theodore is high on the list and I also like Ophelia. I foresee this being an ongoing argument as BF would happily go with the most boring and overused names. His name has been in the top ten for like a hundred years, so he doesn’t see the value in having a more unique name lol.
We had this conversation and it went off track really quickly, so we only have a middle name so far. We like the idea of using family/traditional names, and settled on the middle name Gardner (weirdly, both our grandfathers were named that), but got wayyyyy off track on first names.
We have agreed the bean's name for while in utero (a tradition in my family) is to be called Griswold the Ruiner (Grizzy Roo for short). Because Griswold is a family name and also far more...um...distinct than we will actually name our child. Ruiner is because little Grizzy has been pretty emphatic on aversions to basically all my favorite foods: chocolate, tea, fruity gummy candies, samosas, and dried cherries.
@harrierwife I also love Mattias, and am working on DH to go for it!
@katerst I love Ella as a nickname for Elizabeth or Eleanor.
We had no issues naming DD... we had a girl name right away. She ended up with two family names, Isabelle (Izzy), dh’s Grandma’s name, and Christie as a middle, my middle name. If this is a boy we are doing Dh’s middle name and we both like the same first name so it would be Lucas (Luke) Joseph. For a girl we both really like Lucy, but can’t decide if it should be just Lucy or have a long form. We both like Luciana. And I was thinking a variation of dh’s middle name, so Luciana Josephine? I’ve been calling the bean Lulu... Luke or Lucy, what will you be?
@navyblueladybug I have a Lucy! We also debated between just Lucy or a longer form and decided on just Lucy, because we knew that’s what we’d call her.
My second DS was team green so we had a short list for boy and girl names. I used Patrick on him so my left overs are: Bennett, Connor, and Wesley.
Girl names: Jane, Lucy, and Clara. And I love them all so much and for different reasons, I don’t know how I’d decide!
I feel strongly about the middle being a family name, but I don’t really love any of our options. This is a topic my DH never likes to talk about until about 35 wks. Grrrrrr
@JuneBabyH I like having the middle name a family name too and we've used all the names that I like already. My DH also shows zero interest in talking about it until the end

I love using family names. DS has my FIL's first name as his first and my dad's middle name as his middle name. It also happens that DH's middle name is my FIL's name and his brothers name is my dad's middle name. and my brother has the same middle name as my dad. So we already covered ever immediate male relative with DS.
tl;dr if we have a boy we don't have any family names left that I like because everyone has the same names.
If we have a girl the middle name will be Ann, after my mom's middle name. First name is a struggle though, I love Charlotte but DH does not...
@meatballs37 LOVE the name Elizabeth. It’s my SIL’s name, my sister’s middle name, and my step mom’s middle name. So many good nicknames too, as you mentioned. Love Birdie!
@meatballs37 I'm an Elizabeth (technically, although I go by a nickname that is unrelated). Wish I'd known Birdie was an option!
The only beef I have with Elizabeth is that if you try to actually go by Elizabeth, everyone will start calling you Liz within moments of meeting you, even if you specifically tell them not to. I love all the other nicknames, but the bully in my elementary school was a Liz, so I've always had an aversion to that.
@spacepiraterunner ugh so annoying that people want to nickname you when you gave them your full name. Especially when it holds a negative connotation.
I’m glad we’re not the only ones already debating names! I kept telling myself it was too soon.
Having said that, I chose DD’s name when I was 12 years old, never wavered, and when I met DH I told him he had no choice in the matter, haha. Her name is Nyla and her middle name, Carolyn, is after my mother .
For this baby the choice seems much harder! For a boy, DH loves Maximus, (mostly so he can announce it in a big booming voice....) which I don’t mind. Also Camden and Kieran are high on our list.
For a girl, I came across the name Haven recently and it stuck with me. I like how warm it sounds and it flows nicely, while still being fairly unique. We also talked about Kaia, which I go back and forth on.
DH and I got the “Baby Name” app on our phones. It’s like a match maker. You can each swipe through and favourite names separately and it alerts you when you’ve both chosen the same one. Admttedly.... that hasn’t happened often.
Our girl name is Charlotte Rose. We already have a Lily Ann and wanted to keep with a very subtle flower theme.
Boy names seem to be a lot more difficult. We both like Finn but can’t decide on a middle name. I want to use Luna because it is a family name but DH seems to think the child will be made fun of. I pointed out that several of my cousins, uncles, and grandfather all have the same middle name and were never teased, but we just can’t agree.
@luckystar28 Not at all. I won’t reveal mine for the same reason. Our boys name is common. But our girls name is one I’ve Never heard before and not willing to share till baby is here.
@luckystar28 Yes! Exactly. And I am happy to pm you the name lol. These boards are more public than you think... I think I shared too much last time around (on my old user name) and am weary of that again!
