Nails: DD now says “All done!” While she’s throwing her food on the floor to indicate she’s finished eating. We are working on the not throwing food part. Progress?
Fails: Yesterday DD decided no naps are the way to be! I disagreed. She did stay in her crib for a really long time before deciding she was done with even trying, but she was a grump because no sleep. She best sleep today!
Guided discussion question (for selfish reasons): What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital?
I’m asking because I’m really not sure what to do. I’m sure my mom would not mind taking her. However, she has never slept anywhere but home and I don’t know how that would go. My mom also has no crib and I’m not sure she will really fit in the pack and play to sleep anymore. I feel weird asking my mom to spend multiple nights at my house, particularly because the only available bed is my marital bed (!). That seems way too weird to me. Is that weird? I selfishly would really like dh with me because I’ll probably have another c-section and I remember thinking it would be impossible to get the baby myself in the night. So what are your plans??
@rosebud332 I would just bite the bullet and ask your mom to stay at your house. You're daughter is going to have to deal with some big changes, so I'd prefer her comfort over your mom's. Just have new sheets for her and she'll be fine!
Nails: My kid ate 2 servings of broccoli last night. I'm feeling pretty blah about myself as a parent recently, so I'm reaching
Fails: I've been sick for 2 weeks, had my bmb g2g this weekend, and as a result have been so. freaking. tired. I'm feeling extra pregnant right now and everything takes effort. Dinner has been lame and unhealthy. The other night, DS had popcorn, a popsicle, and cinnamon toast crunch for dinner.
Guided discussion question (for selfish reasons): What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital? My in-laws are staying with us until the baby is born, so he'll stay at home with them and my mom will probably take him to daycare to keep up the routine. If my in-laws weren't going to be here, my mom would just stay at our house and watch him.
Nails: Toddler might be discharged from speech therapy soon! Super awesome and unexpected! We're going to see how he does over the next several weeks and go from there, and his therapist also wants to see him back at 2 years to make sure he's still on track with everything.
Fails: Uh, well, we're trying Room Time right now (aka he's in his room to play alone for an hour) and it is not going well. The funny thing is, he's totally independent if he's not fenced in. But when he sees I'm working on something he always wants to get up in my business. Sigh.
What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital? The in-laws will be here, so they'll take care of him as soon as I go into labor. Thankful we've got that option!

Nails: My husband got a new job. We’re taking a big leap of faith and my husband is finally going to be free from this craziness that’s making him miserable.
Fails: Realizing I still haven’t bought a bday gift for my son. He hasn’t asked for anything except the actual birthday party part so I guess it slipped my mind!
@rosebud332 I would just ask your mom if she can stay at your house. That way, your daughter can be somewhat on her typical routine and in her typical environment. My grandparents lived out of town when I was a kid and whenever they came, they always slept in my parents’ bed, so I don’t find that strange at all. @texas_t I hope you feel better! Feeding a toddler is just hit or miss sometimes. @PensiveCrayon that is wonderful! Speech development is so important and that is so great that he’s progressing so well. @misscheapandchic I hope your husband loves his new job! Nails: We made it back from our trip and had a really great time. It was wonderful to get to spend some time with my brother, who I only get to see you once or twice a year since he moved away.
Fails: My son has never been the world’s greatest sleeper. Even as a newborn, he was awake a lot. He has never slept the “recommended” amount, But after beating myself up for a year and a half and trying everything, I have come to the conclusion that that is just him. Well, for the six days we were gone, he only took one 30 minute nap in the car on the way to Sea World. All three of us were in the same hotel room, so it was a nightmare putting him down at night. It would take probably two hours for him to actually fall asleep, so he typically was not actually asleep until 10 or 11. Well, yesterday, he fought his nap for 2 1/2 hours. Then, I had to wake him up after an hour and a half to take him for his 2 1/2 year well check. Last night, it took him probably two hours to fall asleep. Today, I put him in his bed at 2 o’clock. It is now almost 4 and he is still up there singing to himself and playing. It really sucks because he is so crabby in the evenings, but he just hates sleep. Sorry that turned into such a rant!
Guided discussion question (for selfish reasons): What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital? I am hoping that my mom gets over her issues and that my younger brother and sister are able to come and stay at my house with him. If that does not work out, he will go to my in-laws, especially if I have a RCS. If I go into labor on my own in the middle of the night, my grandma or DH’s aunt will come stay with him overnight. The plan is for my husband to come home while I am still in the hospital to be with DS overnight, so he does not wake up without either of us, if at all possible.
@rosebud332 how old is your DD that you’re thinking she won’t fit in the pack n play? When DH & I went on vacation back in February, my parents kept DS2 (who had just turned 2 earlier that month) and he surprisingly still fit in the pnp just fine. Also, if that’s the route you decided to go, and you’re not comfortable asking your mom to stay at your house, I’d recommend doing a few “practice runs” and having DD spend the night here and there before December.
Nails: this is literally the smallest “nail” ever, but today DS fell asleep in the car for the first time in MONTHS. Usually I’m fighting him hard for naptime these days. It was nice not to do that today.
Fails: I’m 29 weeks. I came to the realization today that at this point in my last pregnancy, my baby shower was done, I was fully stocked on diapers, and the nursery was well on it’s way to being complete. This time I’ve done...absolutely nothing. Second baby syndrome? As for my other kiddos, DS will be staying with my parents because that’s the only place I feel comfortable having him stay. Stressing out about what that means for labor and delivery this time though. My parents hung out at the hospital the whole time when I was having my son. Obviously they won’t be able to do that with my 2 year old. SD16 has the choice between staying with my parents along with her brother, with my MIL, or with a neighbor friend she goes to school with.
Nails: Ummm...I learned my child likes red apples over green apples. We had a parent activity at daycare tasting apples. It was fun! I'm glad DH and I were both able to go.
Fails: So DS just learned something new from DH..."God dammit" we've both been trying to watch our language, but it's been hard lol.
Guided discussion question (for selfish reasons): What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital?
If I make it to my induction (39w1d) then my mom will watch him since she'll be in town visiting (aka won't need to take off work). If I go into labor naturally before she's in town, not sure...really depends on the time of day honestly, but my sister, my dad, or maybe our friends.
I am just so. damn. tired. It's been a long yet somehow short-feeling week. Got my tdap and flu shot today and I am hurt-ing.
@CecilB93 Oh nooo! DD has said "oh my gah" a few times this week and I'm like I have to talk to her sitter tomorrow because I can't imagine her teachers saying it at school (at a Presbyterian church haha).
@mrsm224 Great idea about having kiddo do some trial nights at grandma's. ....though, @rosebud332, I would probably just ask her to stay at the house.
And I have no idea what we'll do. It'll depend on the time of day. But I suspect (expect ) that whoever it is, MIL/FIL/my mom, will drop everything to answer our call. Maybe not the best plan??
@PensiveCrayonthat’s awesome that speech is going so well for your DS! @katy0990sorry your little guy was fighting sleep so much during your vacation. Hopefully he’s able to get back on routine easily at home again.
Nails: Today I was invited to give another talk on something I think is important, to a group I wasn’t expecting to get access to yet. Also DD came running up to me on the playground at preschool with two fistfuls of wildflowers & weeds “mama, this one’s for you and this one’s for daddy!” Of course, by the time she got home, she wanted to put them in a vase in her own room. But the sweetness!
Fails: I am nonstop whining, mostly in my own head but plenty out loud too. Baby girl apparently has her head pressing down on my cervix and bladder, and I am feeling lots of punches and hiccups down low right over my pubic bone. I am going to lose my mind if I have to deal with this painful burning sensation for 13 more weeks.
Guided discussion question (for selfish reasons): What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital?
I’m due 12/27 and my parents are coming out a week plus early for the holiday abd to help out. As long as she doesn’t come before they arrive, we’re good. If it were before then? Have her stay at my sister’s, or have one of her sitters come over? Much better for DD to be in her own home with her adored grandparents all to herself. She won’t even miss us if she has their attention.
@texas_t hope you feel better soon! And my kids have eaten horribly lately because I’m tired and every evening there is an activity. I figure it’s a season of life - I’ll get back to making real dinners on a regular basis eventually. @PensiveCrayon yay for your son! @Katzalia I just noticed this week the pubic bone area pain. Today it hurts bad! It’s hard to get out of bed, or move really.
Nails: DH was out of town a few days last week and the kids and I not only survived, but we all had a great time! I took them apple picking and we made a few things with those. My 6 year olds are doing a unit on Johnny Appleseed this week, so it was perfect timing.
Fails: My kids have forgotten how to get ready in the mornings and I can’t seem to get out of bed on time, so Monday and Tuesday mornings were disasters. I need to go back to setting an alarm since the sun isn’t as bright as early as it used to be.
Guided discussion question (for selfish reasons): What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital? @rosebud332 I agree that I’d just have my mom stay at my house. We have people stay to watch our dogs on vacation, and while they could choose one of the kids beds, we just change our sheets. When DS2&3 were born DS1 had never stayed anywhere else so I had him come home to keep DS1’s routines normal. The nurses are super helpful - I sent the twins to the nursery for the night and told them to only bring me one at a time for feedings. They helped me get them out of the bassinet, however I did not have a c-section, so I was pretty mobile.
As as for my kids, someone will come over when we call. We live close to my parents and sister and his parents, so depending on when it happens I’ll decided who I will call. DH and I haven’t really talked about him staying this time, I assume he will since our kids are older and perfectly comfortable staying with grandparents or grandparents/aunt stays here.
@CecilB93 My dh has been saying that one a lot too. Last night I actually said something to him and he kind of blew me off. So I told him he can deal with it when dd starts say “GD” every time something doesn’t go her way. Especially in church. Won’t that be lovely? He acknowledged I’m right after that. Haha
Thanks everyone and I think you’re all right. I’m probably overthinking and I’ll just ask my mom to stay here. I know she won’t mind and it’ll make things a little easier on dd for sure to at least be at home in her own bed.
@mrsm224 She’s only about 18 months but she’s super tall! She’d probably fit but I don’t think she’d be very comfortable. She’s used to a full size crib and I think it would be pretty tight.
@rosebud332 You could always buy an airmatress for your mom if you dont want her in your bed.you can find some pretty comfy ones nowadays. @texas_t I hope you get to feeling better. Don't feel bad about dinners. I fed my ds oatmeal for 2 nights because I had no energy. I threw a banana and blueberries in and told myself it was healthy so it was ok lol. @PensiveCrayon yay for your ds. @hoosiermama-2 i feel you!!! Got my flu and tdap wednesday and my arm is swollen and fevered in a large area around the shot. I think my arm is gonn fall off lol
Nails: I got all my grocery shopping done and washed 3loads of laundry.
Fails: I did not fold said laundry so its just sitting on my table staring at me...
What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital? My sister will come stay at my house with ds until im out the hospital.
@rosebud332 I agree with all that I don't think it would be weird if she slept in your bed. Also, if you ask now, and she says no for some weird reason, you have time to do some practice stuff at her house. My DD (15) but tall for her age, still sleeps in a pack and play at my moms everyday for 2 naps, and the plan is for her to sleep in the pnp at my in laws when we're in the hospital.
Nails: DD seems to be saying more lately, not full words, but consistent things. She attempts to say baby when I point to my stomach and say ma when she gets her milk. She also signed "help" once and "please" a few times so that was exciting.
Fails: We're struggling with using utensils. She throws food on the ground when she's done eating, and often plays and throws the spoon/fork and doesn't use it how it is intended. I really would like to think that she can handle a plate on her high chair, but she inevitably turns it over and all the food goes on the ground.
Question: My MIL will have her. She lives a mile away from us, so if I do go into labor in the middle of the night or something like that, she can sleep the rest of that evening at our house, and then take her the rest of the nights at hers. We will have one of my DH best friend's stay at our house to dog sit, which he did last time when DD was born.
@PensiveCrayon yay for being done with speech!! @texas_t dinner over here has been bad as well. We rarely eat veggies, and I feel bad that cheese and bread are main staples of her diet @katy0990 I feel you on the nap struggles. I pray this baby sleeps better than my first. @CecilB93 have you tried talking about appropriate words for adults vs kids? My SIL (and we will follow suit) has never really had people stop swearing around her children, just explains that they are adult words that she can't use.
@rosebud332 Just going to echo what was already said - I'd have her stay at your house and just get fresh sheets. I don't think it's weird! andplusalso, that way your dd can stay in her comfortable environment in the midst of major change.
@katy0990 Ugh, I'm so sorry you have to deal with such sleep issues!
@snugglyduckling25 I'm glad the time went so well while DH was away! When MH is gone the time can seem daunting and pass so slow so I'm glad it was positive for you!
Nails: DS learned a new dance move where it's all shoulders & he knows we think it's hilarious so he giggles as soon as he starts to dance. It melts my heart.
Fails: Eating has been a big struggle lately & I honestly don't have a ton of energy to put into it so I feel you a lot @texas_t & @lavenderlisa!
While we are at the hospital I plan to have whoever can help out take DS or come over. We are spoiled rotten to live close to my in laws, 2 S&BIL, my parents & my sister whom I'm very close with. If the timing is a surprise I will call whoever I think would be free otherwise if I am induced again I'll plan that out when it gets closer.
@Jens_Hoes FWIW my son also like to throw plates and utensils, so we took a break from them until he was almost 2. When we reintroduced them, We made a big deal about how they are only for big boys who can use them correctly and that seems to help.
@rosebud332 I keep telling DH that I can't wait for him to say it in front of MIL so I can tell her he learned it from DH
@Jens_Hoes not really, but we need to. We tell him that it's a bad word and not to say it (and it's only been a couple days, maybe once or twice that he's said it), but maybe we need to tell him adult vs child words. That's how we explain alcoholic drinks, we tell him it's a mommy and daddy drink, then we give him Welch's sparkling grape juice as a substitute when we have wine lol. I'll definitely try to remember adult vs kid words next time he says it and we tell him not to, he doesn't seem to like to listen to us these days though...
Nails: I can't even say she's potty training at this point. Pretty sure she's just plain old potty trained. Still needs the occasional reminder if she hasn't gone in a while, but hasn't had an accident (day or night) since Monday, and that one was our fault. Also, two dropoffs in a row this week with no tears... Hallelujah!
Fails: bedtime has been a disaster lately. We're having some real clinginess issues (possibly pregnancy related?) and it means bedtime is dragging on forever every single night ("Mommy I want to keep you here! Mommy come upstairs! Mommy I miss you!"), and I've snapped at her a few times lately.
What will we do with her? Uhhhhhh... good question. We don't have family terribly close. Our nosy regular babysitters are my sister (five hours away) and my SIL (anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours away depending on traffic through downtown Chicago, in the opposite direction of the hospital). My other SIL is closer, but has a super busy social calendar and travels a lot so I'm not sure she'd be around in a pinch. We've never left her with a babysitter who isn't related to us, and never without major advance planning. Maybe we'll ask the neighbors?
If we end up with a scheduled C, we've got plenty of family vying for the honor of staying with her. As much as it makes me cringe a little (we didn't tell anybody about the induction date I didn't make it to, let alone that I was delivering until #1 was out, because we didn't want people bugging us or pushing to visit sooner than we wanted), at least that makes life easier?
@rosebud332 I know I'm late with the input, but I agree that I'd have her stay at your house. Just change the sheets. Any time my mom stays at our house, I tell her there's the guest room and bed in the (finished) basement and she always opts to sleep on the couch! I think it's because we don't let the dogs downstairs, but who knows.
When we are in the hospital, my ILs will likely have DS.

@AGK2015 we didn't tell anyone when I was in labor until my son was born, so I understand how you feel. Everyone knows at this point that if I don't go naturally, I'll be induced 12/6. Do you maybe have one family member you can trust to keep the date a secret so you still have a babysitter and privacy?
@CecilB93 not nearby, unfortunately, and we'd be dealing with more hurt feelings than it's worth if we didn't let one of the grandmas do it, especially since there's already some jealousy about Nugget glomming onto my sister over anybody else (including Mommy and Daddy) when she's around, and yet preferring Mommy and Daddy to everyone else when she's not. Penalty of having a children's librarian who visits monthly with her cute dog for competition; we don't see anyone else as often, and even if we did I think it might still be no contest.
@CecilB93 We did something semi-similar. My mom, brother's gf, and MIL knew I was in labor. My MIL and FIL had to take our dogs for us, and I had originally wanted my mom in the room. Ended up only having DH in the room with me when DS was born. This time people will know because DS and the dogs will need a place to go. No one else will know except MIL and my mom though. I don't need the world to know what's going on with my body. lol Some people give a play by play on facebook and I'm like ummm.. not necessary. Thanks.

Nails: All three boys seemed to grow out of their clothes at the same time, and this weekend I got the bigger sizes out and small sizes put away! I think it only required getting out 2467 totes:).
Fails: A local guy auditioned for The Voice is supposed to be on the blind audition part of the show. He wasn't on last week and we hadn't watched, so we thought we'd have a good chance of watching him last night. Since we don't have network TV, we even did a trial of Hulu Live to watch. What a waste of two hours of my life 1) Hulu live kept buffering the entire time (except for commericals). 2) He wasn't on. 3) I've never watched it before, but those judges...does anyone else find them obnoxious? My favorite one is Adam Levine because he talks the least:). He should be on tonight, but I don't know if I can stand it again!
My mom will come watch the boys at our house while we're at the hospital. She loves spending time with them, but the three of them destroying her house for two days is a bit much for her. It's easier for them to just continue destroying our house, and all their "stuff" is already there. They usually allow us to go home after 24 hours, but this time we'll be staying the whole 48...just because I want another day of quiet! I love those boys, but I'm thinking it'll be nice to have another day where my meals (even if its hospital food) are just a call away and my only job is to lay in bed, watch TV and snuggle and feed the baby:).
@AdorkablePixie I totally side eye those who post a play by play on FB. Like, I haven’t seen you since high school. I don’t need to know how dilated your cervix is right now.
My sister actually started the conversation of what we'll do when I go into labor, and offered to drop everything to come stay with the kids. She's the best thing ever. She lives 1.5 hours away, and works 2.5 hours away, so we'll have to let her know with enough time, but I don't really anticipate that being a huge problem. Worst case scenario we drop the kids off at my brother's house for a while - the only reason he won't be watching them the whole time is he's got an infant of his own and that would probably just stress them the fuck out. Anyway, my sister has a bed at our house that's basically hers, so she'll just sleep there if she needs to. The perks of having the "central" home - we have so much space for visitors, it's not usually a problem.
@PensiveCrayon That is so awesome about graduating from speech therapy soon!
Nails: DD has just been a delight lately. We taught her to say jeez Louise when she's frustrated and it's incredibly adorable. Also, she's learning so much, and a lot of it on her own! She's been trying to read her favorite books on her own and this morning she folded her dad's wallet into a triangle and said "I made a triangle!"
Fails: As per usual, the only thing DD really drives me crazy with is sleep (or lack thereof) and her sleep has just been BAD lately. I am so tired.
During labor, we're going to ask our DD's godparents to watch her. Luckily, they literally live downstairs from us in the same apartment building, so it should be very convenient for everyone, and DD adores them, so I'm hoping it'll go well. Ideally, my husband can go home at night to sleep with her, or at least get her to sleep, but that just depends on how labor goes I guess. I'm nervous about it because even with just her dad out of town last week, DD's routine was disrupted and she barely slept, so having mom and dad gone might be tough. Hoping for a fast labor this time around!
Re: STM Check In
Fails: Yesterday DD decided no naps are the way to be! I disagreed. She did stay in her crib for a really long time before deciding she was done with even trying, but she was a grump because no sleep. She best sleep today!

What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital?
If I make it to my induction (39w1d) then my mom will watch him since she'll be in town visiting (aka won't need to take off work). If I go into labor naturally before she's in town, not sure...really depends on the time of day honestly, but my sister, my dad, or maybe our friends.
DS2 due 12/12/18

@PensiveCrayon yay for your son!
Guided discussion question (for selfish reasons):
What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital?
@texas_t I hope you get to feeling better. Don't feel bad about dinners. I fed my ds oatmeal for 2 nights because I had no energy. I threw a banana and blueberries in and told myself it was healthy so it was ok lol.
@PensiveCrayon yay for your ds.
Question:
My MIL will have her.
We rarely eat veggies, and I feel bad that cheese and bread are main staples of her diet
@katy0990 I feel you on the nap struggles. I pray this baby sleeps better than my first.
@CecilB93 have you tried talking about appropriate words for adults vs kids? My SIL (and we will follow suit) has never really had people stop swearing around her children, just explains that they are adult words that she can't use.
DS: 12/20/16
EDD: 11/29/18
@Jens_Hoes not really, but we need to. We tell him that it's a bad word and not to say it (and it's only been a couple days, maybe once or twice that he's said it), but maybe we need to tell him adult vs child words. That's how we explain alcoholic drinks, we tell him it's a mommy and daddy drink, then we give him Welch's sparkling grape juice as a substitute when we have wine lol. I'll definitely try to remember adult vs kid words next time he says it and we tell him not to, he doesn't seem to like to listen to us these days though...
DS2 due 12/12/18

9/15/2015: BFP HCG - 400, 9/17/2015: HCG - 827, 9/21/2015 - HCG 3,327!Nails: DD has just been a delight lately.
