STM Check In

I don’t think this has been posted yet for this week?

Guided discussion question (for selfish reasons):
What are you planning to do with your other kid(s) while you’re at the hospital?

  • @CecilB93 My dh has been saying that one a lot too. Last night I actually said something to him and he kind of blew me off. So I told him he can deal with it when dd starts say “GD” every time something doesn’t go her way. Especially in church. Won’t that be lovely? He acknowledged I’m right after that. Haha

Thanks everyone and I think you’re all right. I’m probably overthinking and I’ll just ask my mom to stay here. I know she won’t mind and it’ll make things a little easier on dd for sure to at least be at home in her own bed.

@mrsm224 She’s only about 18 months but she’s super tall! She’d probably fit but I don’t think she’d be very comfortable. She’s used to a full size crib and I think it would be pretty tight.

  • @Jens_Hoes FWIW  my son also like to throw plates and utensils, so we took a break from them until he was almost 2. When we reintroduced them, We made a big deal about how they are only for big boys who can use them correctly and that seems to help.
  • @rosebud332 I keep telling DH that I can't wait for him to say it in front of MIL so I can tell her he learned it from DH :joy:

@Jens_Hoes not really, but we need to. We tell him that it's a bad word and not to say it (and it's only been a couple days, maybe once or twice that he's said it), but maybe we need to tell him adult vs child words. That's how we explain alcoholic drinks, we tell him it's a mommy and daddy drink, then we give him Welch's sparkling grape juice as a substitute when we have wine lol. I'll definitely try to remember adult vs kid words next time he says it and we tell him not to, he doesn't seem to like to listen to us these days though...

  • @rosebud332 I know I'm late with the input, but I agree that I'd have her stay at your house. Just change the sheets. :) Any time my mom stays at our house, I tell her there's the guest room and bed in the (finished) basement and she always opts to sleep on the couch! I think it's because we don't let the dogs downstairs, but who knows.

When we are in the hospital, my ILs will likely have DS.

  • @AGK2015 we didn't tell anyone when I was in labor until my son was born, so I understand how you feel. Everyone knows at this point that if I don't go naturally, I'll be induced 12/6. Do you maybe have one family member you can trust to keep the date a secret so you still have a babysitter and privacy?

  • @CecilB93 not nearby, unfortunately, and we'd be dealing with more hurt feelings than it's worth if we didn't let one of the grandmas do it, especially since there's already some jealousy about Nugget glomming onto my sister over anybody else (including Mommy and Daddy) when she's around, and yet preferring Mommy and Daddy to everyone else when she's not. Penalty of having a children's librarian who visits monthly with her cute dog for competition; we don't see anyone else as often, and even if we did I think it might still be no contest.
  • @CecilB93 We did something semi-similar. My mom, brother's gf, and MIL knew I was in labor. My MIL and FIL had to take our dogs for us, and I had originally wanted my mom in the room. Ended up only having DH in the room with me when DS was born. This time people will know because DS and the dogs will need a place to go. No one else will know except MIL and my mom though. I don't need the world to know what's going on with my body. lol Some people give a play by play on facebook and I'm like ummm.. not necessary. Thanks.

  • @AdorkablePixie I totally side eye those who post a play by play on FB. Like, I haven’t seen you since high school. I don’t need to know how dilated your cervix is right now.
  • @katy0990 Yes! I really don't need to know that. I didn't even want to know that with DS and don't want to know this time either.
