  • DH is working on his Master’s degree. He needs to take one 8 week long online class during the spring. He can either take a class Jan 7th-March 4th or the beginning of March-the beginning of May. Typically, he has to attend class for 2 hours 2 nights a week, in addition to lots of reading and writing essays.

My my due date is 1/27. DH thinks it will be best for him to take a class starting in January because he’ll be in class less time after the baby is born (as opposed to if he takes a class during the second semester).

I say the baby could come early (DS was born at 37 weeks), and I don’t really want him to have to worry about missing class or having to write an essay while I’m in labor/dealing with the first couple of weeks postpartum.

Then again, it could be more difficult to balance things once I go back to work (8 weeks after baby is born), and he’s taking a class.

    Thoughts?

  • @saltedcaramel518 That's a tricky one. My first reaction was to say the later session that starts in March until I read the part where you'd be back at work soon after. I remember going back to work after baby #2 and that first month was really overwhelming getting our routine sorted out with two full-time working parents (and DS was a year old at that point!). Going back with an 8 week old baby, possibly still night-waking and feeding, plus having DH gone for 2 hours in the evenings twice a week sounds like pure hell. I'd opt for the early January session.

@ladystout08 so jealous! We finally *started* ordering big furniture items (crib, dresser, rocking chair, etc.) so I'm majorly envious that you are already almost there. Good for you!
@tosh24 happy birthday!!! Cheers to what is hopefully your best year yet :)
@saltedcaramel518 oof, that's a tough one. I see where he's coming from, but even if baby doesn't come early you're going to want as much help as possible with DS while you're in the home stretch. It's my first so I can't say for sure, but I don't imagine I'm going to be hugely helpful in any way 37+ weeks. I'd say go with the March-May option. By then you'll hopefully have some type of routine down, and you'll know how to plan at least a little in advance to where you're not totally overwhelmed.

I went to bed before 930 all weekend and was up before 7 both days. I got so much more done around the house than usual and even woke up a few minutes before my alarm this morning to get in some Monday morning snuggles instead of going straight into zombie mode. (And packed a healthy lunch for SO and me.) Sleep works wonders for this pregnant mama, so grateful I haven't had much trouble sleeping yet. *Fingers crossed*
  • @saltedcaramel518, my vote is for January. I had a similar situation when my second was born. 3 weeks after DD2 was born, Dh had to leave for work stuff for 2 months. It was hard but it would have been much harder if I was trying to go back to work then. At least you can still kind of sleep when the baby sleeps and its ok to order takeout and be exhausted.

  • @kianarain when I say done, I mean being remodeled. Lol. We tore out the gross carpet and refinished the hardwood, replaced the ceiling and painted the walls. Our crib is in the garage and will likely be there until like.......November.

  • Yesterday we finished moving the office into the guest room, now to find a spot for the remaining few larger toys that we've been storing in the office, then we can start prepping the room to be a nursery. DD has some play castles that we've been storing in the office, but I don't know what to do with them now. She's still too young to sell them, since she'll get the most play out of them in the next few years, but they're too bulky to keep out in the open, and our house...stupidly...doesn't have much storage. We'll see :) I'm just really happy the heavy duty work is done with clearing out both the office and guest room then combining them.
And the "new" office/guest room looks and feels GREAT! It's nice to have a big comfy bed in the office, but it's SUPER tempting. Yesterday I sat down to rest while writing a report and fell asleep lol oops

I'm not ready for October! This is all going too fast. On one hand I can't wait for baby boy to come, and on the other I'm not ready for the chaos that goes with having another newborn AND a toddler this time. Ready or not, though...
I'm definitely ready to not be pregnant anymore, though. I love feeling him move around and grow, but it's a lot more uncomfortable this time around.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I told DH to take the January class, then changed my answer after I asked him what he would do if I was in labor while he needed to attend class. His response was that he could attend via phone. Hah.. no, I would be so annoyed if he was doing that while I was in labor.

Also, he’s probably not going to take more than a few days off work, so having him be at work all day, then unavailable for over 2 hours while I’m a week or so postpartum would not be ideal. So, he’s going to take the later class. He gave me the dates, and if baby doesn’t come early, I should still be on leave until the last week or so.

  • I just found a little bit of mold in my camelbak cap! Should I be worried about a potential problem from that?  I normally wouldn’t care like at all, but now I’m paranoid.
  • Happy Birthday @tosh24

We had our final house guests of the summer (my sister and BIL), so now we can start converting our guest room into the nursery. Hopefully my friend and her husband can come pick up the bed this weekend (she recently bought a house and needs a guest bed!) so that we can hit up Ikea the following weekend to buy a crib and dresser. DH is ridiculously excited to assemble some Ikea furniture. He loves having projects. And I love that he loves doing them. :)

Went to the Big E today with my sister. (Giant state fair for New England states). It was so much fun, but now I am EXHAUSTED. Walked around for 5 hours. Did lots of shopping, lots of eating. After I drove home, I almost couldn't walk to the mailbox, my hips were so sore. Managed to get the laundry in and just picked up a rotisserie chicken for dinner so I all have to do is heat it up when I'm ready. DH is in China so I can't even get him to pamper me tonight. Fortunately a good friend of mine is staying over tonight cuz our house is closer to an event she is going to tomorrow. And she is a good enough of a friend that I can ask her to help me do things like unload and load the dishwasher because I am too freaking tired!

Also I was attacked by bugs almost 1.5 weeks ago. The bug bites are still super itchy and swollen. I am getting so sick of the itching! And now I'm tired, and sore, and itchy and DH is not even here for me to complain to.  :'(  *commence whining and pity fest*

  • I'm trying to reorganize our storage stuff...
What sorts of things would you store in the garage, verses store in the house?
Being that we're in Minnesota, all liquids need to be stored inside during the winter. But what about clothes, books, toys, etc? We have a lot of garage space space and much less indoor space, but I've always felt weird about storing things in the garage.

It is never a good idea to go "grab a few groceries" when your hungry. It's an especially bad idea when you're pregnant.
Ohmigosh I so agree. I went to the grocery store with my mom and dd the other day, I was starving, and dd kept saying she had to go potty. So I had to keep walking back and forth and it just made me hungry. I bought a lot of groceries.

I agree. I hate storing stuff in the garage. Which is why the few closets we have in the house are full. That and mice always seem to find a way into our garage (it's not attached to the house thank goodness). Toys would probably be fine in the garage, as long as they aren't electrical. I'd worry about putting ones that use batteries and stuff in the garage because of the moisture. And I say that because I feel like during the winter our garage is always wet because of driving the car in and out with the snow. We start trashing stuff when we can't fit it anywhere lol. I'll be so happy when this baby girl comes and I can slowly get rid of the swing, bouncer, car seat bases, clothes. So excited lol

Yesterday when I went I bought a box of personal pizzas, Honeycomb cereal, Lindt chocolate truffles, Babybel cheese, and cookies. Lol

  • My major dilemma at this moment is whether or not I should return my foundation and primer from Ulta and buy them at Nordstrom instead. Ulta doesn’t price match and Nordstrom does! I would save a total of $10.30 but part of me is also lazy right now.
  • @AliKay20 whenever I feel lazy like that I think about how much whatever the item is in regards to how much I get hourly and decide.  A few bucks I might pass,  for 10 i would do it.  That's pretty much my only motivator because i returning things

Today my work outfit consists of a navy dress paired with hot pink sneakers, because those are the only shoes  (other than flip flops) that physically fit on my feet. In my head I'm calling it my "pregnant and running out of fucks" outfit.

No one has said anything, but some of the  silent double takes from partners have been amusing.
that's amazing. I am too stubborn to spend too much on maternity clothes and have been reeeeally walking a fine line on what is "business professional" as of late. Leggings are pants and if they are black that counts as business wear, right? right.
  • @KLS123 RIGHT! Precisely! Leggings that are soon to be paired with long sweaters and tunics.. Very fashionable and.. Erm... Professional... I plan to play the oblivious card if I get questioned on that! lol

Does anyone have a lead on where the hell I can find an inexpensive maternity bathing suit? I don't care if it's one piece or two. I would prefer a structured bust because I have a large, heavy chest. I want to start swimming on Sunday mornings, because a pool near me has started a women only swim time and I would love to feel weightless on occasion... I just can't justify paying a fortune for something I might wear ten times!
  • @KLS123 I have a hard time buying maternity specific clothes too... I have focused on buying dresses I think will work after the baby is born too for work. Gap has had some sales and I also had some gap cash so bought a few dresses from them that have faux wrap bottom but the top unbuttons for breastfeeding/pumping later. Plus they are comfy and have a tie waist to help cinch for now and later.
I did buy maternity pajama pants from gap and I would live in them if I could...
  • @AliKay20 I would return it. A few bucks I might pass on and just remember to do shop the other place next time, but anything more than like $3-4 I would return it and get the better price. I think about what I could get with that saving...for example, $3 would buy me a wallflower or hand soap from bath and body works on sale, and $10.50 could get you TONS of things. A 3-wick candle from bath and body works (I'm obsessed lately), a few lattes, Gripe Water for baby, almost a pack of target brand diapers.... :) Imagine "if I invest half an hour making this exchange, I get a free candle." worth it.

  • This week, the brother of one of my coworkers (that I don’t know very well) passed away. Yesterday, an envelope was passed around on my floor for everyone to put $ in to send to the family. I didn’t have any cash, so I just passed it on to the next person. The envelope made its way back around to me today. And I still don’t have any cash (I assumed it was all going to be taken up yesterday). Now I feel super bad for not contributing anything... but couldn’t someone have sent an email to give a heads up? I rarely carry cash.

  • Recently my work computer got changed over from a crappy old laptop to a surface and I got two new monitors so that I can compare documents side-by-side. Sounds sweet right?? NOPE. I’ve had major issues with this set up at least three times in the last week since it was installed where the surface won’t recognize the monitors or my mouse is completely missing or something else ridiculous. Tired of wasting time when I don’t even wanna be hereeee!
  • I stayed at work obnoxiously late last night so I want to leave early today around 4.  But I have a new-ish employee who is very needy and working on finishing something up for end of day and I know he's going to have questions.  Struggling with whether I should be a good person and stick around or not.
  • @saltedcaramel518 That's rough. DH and I were lucky enough that he should be finishing his master's this December. Our contingency plan (one class almost got cancelled) was going to be for him to wait until the late spring/summer semester to take another class since he will already have to juggle having a new baby and working full-time (no paternity leave) in January.. I know that's probably not super helpful but coming from kind of a similar situation that's how we were going to handle it. Best of luck to you guys!

  • @leighbrek I got a maternity swim suit at Kohl’s. I ordered it online back in 2015 with my first pregnancy. It wasn’t too expensive and it ended up getting lost in the mail and they gave me a refund and then I got it weeks later, so it was free. Not sure what their selection is anymore but worth checking!
  • Walking isn't nearly as fun as it used to be. I'm that person who would walk forever and be happy about it. Today I literally took my dogs around two blocks and had enough with achy legs and sore feet. I know it's the end of the day and I did a lot of standing today, but exercising seems to be becoming more of a challenge just in being interested in doing it. Discomfort central!

@leighbrek this is me, too!! I usually love working out and going for walks. Also, I'm slower, but it doesn't feel like it. If on the treadmill I would be comfortable at 4.0mph and would keep this up for some light cardio. Last night by 3.8 I felt like it was really fast, and 3.0 felt like a comfortable speed walk. What is going on???? I remember that being the case later in pregnancy with DD, too, then I was able to work back up after delivery pretty quick.
