My 2 yo is in her room (next to mine) talking to herself and yelling “Mom! LET. ME. OUT!” Meanwhile, I’m laying in bed pretending I can’t hear her. She just broke out in a loud rendition of “Johnny Johnny” followed by “Baby Shark.”
My insurance (Aetna) sent me a complimentary copy of the Mayo Clinic's "Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy". In that book, they have a diagram that shows the different sizes of dilation. I took once glance and said "There is no way this is to scale". So I took out a ruler, and sure enough, it was to scale. Color me horrified. Aaaaand, just because I can, I'll share my horror with y'all by posting a similar diagram (but this one's certainly not to scale). Enjoy!
I think having your cervix open bagel wide is better than pushing out an 8lb bowling ball through a cheerio. Haha, I’m the weirdo who felt better after watching births too.
@madreofdragons When you put it that way, I prefer the bagel. And I'm so thankful that human skulls don't fuse until after birth. Thank god for cone heads! I find birth videos really stressful. Then again, I also get really freaked out watching anyone get an injection or having blood drawn, but I don't mind getting shots or getting my own blood drawn. Whenever I see someone else going through something, I imagine it being incredibly worse than it actually is.
@hannahbananas11 Ugh, that's so gross. One more reason I'm never setting foot in that place!
Okay, here's a really weird and random thing. In the past couple months, my cat has become increasingly obsessed with licking me. She's never done this before, and she doesn't lick anyone else. This morning she even jumped up on the bed to lick my face. I haven't changed my skincare routine or added any new products. Is this a thing cats do to pregnant people, or is that too stupid to even ask? It's just so strange! She's obsessed at times, I can't even scratch her belly without her grabbing my hand to lick it.

One of my cats cant get enough of me since being pg. Must be a thing @grebretso! He likes to lay on my stomach and purr.. babys going to need purr tunes to sleep once born
@grebretso My dachshund doesn’t leave my side when I am home - it’s normal for them (animals) to pick up on pregnancy and “take care” of you.
Im excited for football tonight just because I made jalapeño artichoke dip. Meaning I made it and ate some already and I plan on being asleep for the game.
I took DD for her flu shot this morning and she still hasn’t forgiven me I got mine too. My body overreacts to vaccines so I’m planning on spending the next day in bed.
The baby had hiccups for the first time that I could feel today. Cute now, especially when I know how annoying it will be later.
@cass06_07@kayjay44 I knew pets can act more affectionate, I just didn't expect the licking part. Her little tongue is so raspy!
I got my flu shot while at my dr appt last week and jeez. The nurse's grasp slipped while pulling the needle out, so I ended up with a GIANT bruise that's still there a week and a half later. Vaccines are no fun! I usually never have issues with needles but that one hurt.

I'd also heard that pets get more affectionate, but mine are poor examples, one already basically lived on my lap when I'm awake, or literally any surface of me while I'm asleep. The other will only be pet on her terms and will never be described as affectionate, but she does lick me...its weird.
@grebretso if it helps I have to do insulin shots in my belly before bed and last night my stupid high waist maternity band rolled up as I was starting to inject. Bent the needle in me and knocked it out. Surprised it didn’t leave a mark, but I was awake after that.
@kayjay44 I took my DD to get hers this morning too and she’s still mad about it. She keeps showing us her bandaid and saying “why you do that to me mommy”
my dog dog is so clingy lately too, as in has to be sitting ON me
Holy shit @BourbonBiscuits, that's intense! How is that even possible?? My bruise is still visible, but it never looked that bad.
I'm so glad the phlebotomist at my OB is great at her job. Almost every other person has had to poke me several times for blood, she always gets it on the first try. Never even leaves a marl.

I feel you @eggsandwich2019 student essays are the worst. Also I think grading my last batch gave me this cold that is really a death plague. I can’t stop coughing and every time I cough I pee myself and that is not cool. I was giving a talk at a conference yesterday in front of a room full of people and I was coughing so I was peeing and I was wearing a pad so sort of it was ok I guess but peeing in a business suit in front of thirty people while lecturing about Kantian philosophy was a new experience for me.
I KNOW!! You guys it even hurts like I got punched. My husband has been making fun of me relentlessly. The thing is I kind of enjoy getting blood drawn, and I have great veins (if I do say so myself) so I never need to be stuck more than once. It didn’t hurt or anything ... I guess this lady just really sucked lol
Anyone want to give travel opinions? We are going to London in a few weeks (mid October) and looking for a second or even third location to visit. Only real requirement is that transportation is easy (so no connecting flights).
On our list so far we’ve thought about: Spain (Barcelona or Madrid) Bruges then Amsterdam Luxembourg then Munich
@BourbonBiscuits I’m a terrible stick and even I don’t bruise like that. It sometimes takes 3+ tries, and I despise getting blood drawn. One person in my OB office gets it right every time and I always cross my fingers that she’s there.. but I’m pretty sure she’s on maternity leave now. Maybe they blew the vein.
@madreofdragons We were planning to yesterday, but DH left his stethoscope and white coat at the VA hospital when he rotated there a year ago, and yesterday when he stopped by to get it, it wasn't where he left it in the department. Go figure. Have you tried? I read that you can hear it at 20 weeks, and I'm 19 weeks right now.
@megpants209 check to see if there are any local holidays/events during your travel dates. Spain has a lot this time of year, some are great while others mean a ton of drunk people and urine everywhere.
Old haggard mom here. Let me tell you how *enjoyable* it is to have a school age day kiddo who has 1 billion friends and plays sports. I spent my day yesterday shuffling between a 9 am birthday party then a 12 noon soccer game followed by a 1 pm birthday party. I’ll admit that I’m scared to juggle the schedule of 3 kids in the future.
Then, because I decided at the 11th hour to take advantage of the Target car seat trade in, DH, the kids, and I took 2 seats over to be traded in (and ordered our infant seat - Chicco Keyfit for $125 with all the discounts!).
I’d like to say today is shaping up to be more low key but no, it isn’t. And DS has been up since 5:40 telling me he has to poop (newsflash - hour later, no poop).
DH and I had a date night last night. Great except we didn't get to go til after baby went down, so we got home after 10 and who decided to wake me at 4:45 for 30 and then at 5:50 for the day?! I can't even nap when she does bc DH has family coming for brunch so I need to shower etc. Did I mention I'm congested as hell and we are going into week 2 of probably 4 living with my in laws?!.
TW: 1 infant loss 8/17: Our daughter was born 8/18: Our daughter kicked open heart surgery ass 2/19: We lost our son to Prader-Willi/Paradoxical Vocal Cord/ Noonans at 6wks old 4/26/2020: EDD for baby #3!!!
@BourbonBiscuits holy moly! I, too, have good veins (lol) and I get personally offended when they bruise me- but that is some next level shit, dang.
@jessier19 omg what a nightmare - I’m on the market this year and I keep thinking that if I will get any on-campus interviews they’ll be in March and leaking in a business suit is seriously the scenario I am envisioning. Thank goodness for pads I guess?
@megpants209 I’d go for the Spain side trip since the weather will be nice and it’s lovely and inexpensive and as long as you eat pork the food is pretty great. Second choice would be Belgium/Holland because they’re charming. I lived in Belgium when I was little and have a soft spot for it.
@BourbonBiscuits do we have the same phlebotomist? That is exactly what my arm looked like after the draw they did in July.... It eventually went away.
@megpants209 I can't compare any of those places but we were just in Belgium and if you want waffles and chocolate all the time that is the place for you. I would recommend Ghent over Bruges though if you're only doing one city (it was super cute but so touristy that it didn't seem real).
@jessier19 art history. I have a TT job but my husband is also an academic and so far only getting adjunct work at my institution so hoping to apply some pressure? It’s such a hustle! What about you? I’m guessing philosophy?
Re: Weekend randoms 9/22-9/23
Shush it, kid! Do do do do do do doooo
19 weeks, 3 days.
Baby is the size of a ping pong paddle?
There's no way that's fitting in or out of me
Aaaaand, just because I can, I'll share my horror with y'all by posting a similar diagram (but this one's certainly not to scale). Enjoy!
I am struggling under a massive pile of grading which I fell behind on due to being sick/overly anxious this week. Student essays are the worrrrrrst
