Nails: I got DS’s Halloween costume 40% off yesterday!
Fails: I’m side-eyeing myself for scheduling us to fly out at 6:02 am tomorrow.
Questions: I can’t think of anything
GTKY: How are your other child/children reacting to your pregnancy? My 2.5 year old loves to lift my shirt to “see” the baby. He also loves to put toys down my shirt for baby Jellybean to play with. Sometimes, he will pretend to take the baby out of my belly, so they can play together. I hope he is this interested when the baby is actually here!
Nails: DS is generally a decent eater, but lately has been more finicky. Last night, the little gobbler ate EVERYTHING. He looked to have the pregnancy munchies for me He ate steak, veggies, pickles, popsicles, a carrot energy bite, popcorn & as he says, a "couple peeanuts!". I apologized in advance to daycare this morning for the future diaper fills.
Fails: Poor little dude got his hand stuck in our accordion style closet doors. He cried so hard & I comforted him with snuggles & a sucker. When I looked, he had quite the bruise already forming. I know I didn't cause it, but I felt so crappy about it.
Questions: I'm trying to think of ways I can make Christmas special for him this year. He will be 2 on 12/20, so not only will his birthday always be shadowed by Christmas, but this year he will be dealing with a new sibling & loss of attention. Ideas?
GTKY: He has essentially no idea. I'll point to my belly and tell him there's a baby growing in there and he will be a big brother soon & he just side-eyes me like.. "wtf mom, I know what a baby is, and that is indeed not a baby" He only understands outside babies so far, but he does love them.
@temmetime Can you take him somewhere fun (depending on how you are feeling, of course) maybe Christmas lights at the zoo, the aquarium, a children’s museum, or Great Wolf Lodge. Edit: Wrong tag Oops!
Nails: We're all finally recovered from the stomach flu! And DD is in such a good rhythm with preschool now, after a rough transition, and really loves it. She especially loves the classroom fish, Azul, and she got to help feed him yesterday, so she was thrilled. Also, she some favorite quotes lately: when her dad picked her up at school yesterday she ran up to him on the playground and said "Daddy, I had a massive fart!" And then he was like haha, okay, we say excuse me if we fart. Then she runs back up to him and says "Daddy, I had a massive fart, excuse me!" Also, when saying goodbye to me today she took my standard goodbye and said it to me instead. Hearing a toddler tell me "Goodbye munckin, have a great day!" was adorable. I swear 2.5 is the best age in the world.
Fails: I am not counting any fails this week. We had such a rough time with the flu, I am congratulating us all for surviving, haha.
Questions: None at the moment!
GTKY: How are your other child/children reacting to your pregnancy? DD is very up and down. Sometimes she is very excited about the baby, sometimes she's still insisting that she wants a sister, not a brother, sometimes she'll say hi to the baby (my belly) and sometimes she'll refuse. She has started suggesting names and the frontrunner is...Target. (She loves that store, since it's where she gets all her play doh and hotwheels, so it's a compliment, I think, haha.)
@temetime Ooh, that is tough timing. Is there any really special present he's been excited for? Something you could maybe build up the anticipation of a little bit? How close is it to your due date? Would it be possible to do a special mom/DS play date on his birthday?
@katy0990 I assume that was to me Unfortunately I live 2.5 hours from Omaha in a very rural area, so those places aren't feasible for us @maureenmce he doesn't LOVE toys honestly. He gets excited about being able to play in our cars or getting to eat fruit snacks/popsicles. EDD is 11/29, so baby should be here (hopefully haha) and a few weeks old by then. The play date idea is a good one! Thank you!
@maureenmce Target is my 2.5 yo’s favorite place too! Although he hasn’t suggested it for baby’s name yet, he HAS given us some pretty interesting suggestions. Cheese, Upside-Down, and Chicka Boom Boom are three of the ones that make me chuckle the most
Nails: He was exceptionally well behaved at the store today! I let him walk by himself, and instead of running from me (which he loves to do) he followed directions and eventually asked to sit up in the cart. WIN.
Fails: I feel like we’re at the end of the naptime era. My friends tell me there’s a 2.5 year regression, but man we are really struggling over here.
Questions: None, atm!
GTKY: My 16yo stepdaughter is hit or miss. She’s not too interested in the pregnancy, but also isn’t being a brat about it. She’s a wonderful big sister though, so I have no doubt that will kick in once this little guy arrives. Although I really think she was secretly hoping for a sister this time around. My 2.5yo doesn’t get it totally, I don’t think. We just bought him the “I’m a big brother” book, which he’s been loving, and I think that’s really helping. Every night before bed, he asks to read “the Maddox and Jackson book” which I think is just the sweetest thing!!
Nails: ummm. Trying to think of something here. A few minor victories with work. Some amazing snuggles with DD who has been very affectionate lately. Baby dresser is mostly ready to go with nb and 0-3 month clothes clean and ready.
Fails: DD was sick last week as was her cousin, my mom caught it now and is miserable during her vacation here. DD has been fragile amd tearful a lot during recovery, I’ve been irritable and stressed, and MH has been negative and stressed about work. So... we’re limping along. Oh! And the not-expired carseat from DD that we saved? Turns out it somehow got wet and is super moldy. Time for a new carseat. I’m afraid to check some of the other stuff like the cosleeper bassinet and rock’n’play.
Questions: does anyone have a thermometer they like & would recommend? I am so sick of buying/replacing crappy thermometers that are inaccurate/stop working. The only one I have that seems to keep trucking on is a freebie from a hospital or clinic that takes forever but works well.
The latest one I bought kept giving errors, or when it gave a reading, said 95.5 F (when by the old reliable she had a low grade fever). I would love to get a good one that doesn’t take so long.
GTKY: How are your other child/children reacting to your pregnancy? She is adorable and has been hugging and singing to my belly.
@temmetime Yes, Oops! What about farm animals or tractors, sorry for stereotyping. I guess not all rural areas have those things. Maybe you could make popsicles? Bake Christmas cookies?
@katy0990 no worries, I grew up on a farm & there are definitely lots of animals and tractors and those things are some of DS' favorites! It will be winter in Nebraska, though, so that makes things dicey haha. Thanks for the suggestions!!
@temmetime my daughter and her cousin have birthdays 3 days apart (not the same age). When we were all together for their birthday weekend, we made a big deal about which day we were celebrating each girl’s birthday. On DD’s birthday, we did an activity she had picked (from a couple of choices we gave her) and had a cake. Then the next day when we celebrated her cousin’s birthday, same deal, the cousin got to pick an activity and there was another cake. It worked pretty well and DD got to feel special and celebrated on her day, even though there was a lot else going on in other days.
@mrsm224 We are also struggling with naps, too! He has only napped 2 or 3 times in the past week, but I know he is tired! @Katzalia Can you wash it with baking soda and vinegar? Also, please let us know if you find a decent (non rectal) thermometer. I feel like we might as well be searching for a unicorn!
Nails: I really need to keep a list of my nails and fails so I can actually remember them when it is time for this post. We are going to Melting Pot for dinner tonight so that’s a win.
Fails: DS has been waking up around midnight pretty consistently lately. Sometimes we will rub his back and he’ll be back asleep and stay asleep but some nights he’ll just get right back up crying for hours. I don’t know what’s going on. There have been two nights I’ve put him in bed with me because I didn’t know what else to do and I needed sleep!! Last night I just decided to let him cry. DH tried once, I tried once, DH tried again and he still got up. I put ear plugs in and tried to go back to sleep.
Questions: I don’t really have any right now.
GTKY: How are your other child/children reacting to your pregnancy? I don’t think he really understands. He says baby and points to my belly but then does the same to himself and DH sooo 🤷♀️
@temmetime This was probably already suggested but maybe give him some options and take him out to do something he’d like to do?
@Katzalia I have yet to find a decent thermometer. I have a cheap one that I do under DSs armpit. We got a forehead one when he was born and it’s a piece of crap. We get a different temperature every time we use it. It’s frustrating.

@katy0990 I think the carseat is way too moldy — and could have been like that for a year since we moved. I worry about the integrity of the straps etc. and they recommend just spot cleaning, not full-on washing. So for safety and peace of mind, we are replacing.
Also — thanks for commiserating on the unicorn thermometer search @katy0990@AdorkablePixie . Seems like it shouldn’t be so hard....
It’s one of the forehead ones. I swipe it across DD’s head a few times and go with the highest temp. I’ve used it on myself and it seems accurate to me. The only ear one I ever got was from Walgreens and it was crap so I’ve stuck with this one.
Nails: the orchard was fun on Sunday, and our apple pie turned out well.
Fails: my kids have had a hard time playing nicely and quietly lately. I get that they’re kids, but it’s driving me nuts.
Questions: none atm
gtky: they’re both very excited. DD hugs my belly every chance she can. DS is excited to get a little brother and probably to not be the littlest guy in the family anymore. They’re adorable, and I can’t wait to see them actually interact with baby boy.
Nails: DS2 was released to gym and cross country after 4 weeks from the broken collar bone, he was SO excited for practice tonight and did amazing. I think the coaches were nervous because he only had one practice before the break and they ran a total of 1.6 miles tonight. He finished strong and even before DS3 who has been to every practice.
Fails: I took all 3 to Target yesterday for costumes after school and we were in a hurry to get back home for DS1’s soccer practice. They got off the bus and all wanted to go back home to get something to eat and drink. Note to self: always feed and water the kids before attempting an after school Target run. We got what we needed and everything was fine until we were walking out the door and DS3 lost his mind because I wouldn’t let him buy M&Ms for a snack (other items were offered because I knew he was hungry). He’s my strong willed child that I hope uses his powers for good one day, so it was a couple hour episode and I definitely did some yelling that I later regretted.
Questions:
GTKY: How are your other child/children reacting to your pregnancy? They are all excited, they give hugs to “Snuggles” (their name for the baby), talk to him and love checking out the weekly things that baby is the size of. DS3 is probably the most affectionate and I really hope they are all this excited when baby is here.
@rosebud332 that is the one we have and I felt like it worked fine at first, but after the first year or so, I cannot get consistent readings. Plus, it typically gives me really low readings. How long have you had yours?
@maureenmce so adorable - 2.5 is a great age for the cutest sayings! @Katzalia I also use the forehead thermometer and just take it a few times and see where it’s at.
Nails: Managed to travel alone with the giant lap child to Indiana? He’s loving it here — my parents have a dog and a cat, ducks and geese he loves chasing after, and grapevines. He is, quite randomly, a huge fan of the grapes, which aren’t standard grocery store grapes but concords.
Fails: Eh. Nothing huge that I can think of. I forgot to pack diapers for the plane ride again Luckily there was no massive stinky blowout this time.
GTKY: My kid has nooooo idea what December is bringing. If you ask him where the baby is he points to himself. Silly child. I’m interested to see how he reacts.

I'll be honest...not gonna tag people because there's so much going on and I'm mobile lol.
Nails: since Saturday, DS has pooped in the toilet twice!! Still had like 3 or 4 accidents in his underwear, but we're getting closer to being fully potty trained!! Aside from nights, he's not ready for that quite yet, but he's pretty close with that, too.
Fails: out of my control, but DS has had a cough and drainage for about a week now. And I woke up with a sore throats and cough this morning myself...dammit.
Questions: umm...none that I can think of.
GTKY: he's definitely getting more excited! He'll talk about "my baby brother" a lot without prompting from anyone else.
@snugglyduckling25 That’s great he’s back at practice and did so well his first day back!! Good for him. Sorry about the meltdown. I know I’m no fun when I am hungry either.
@rosebud332 That’s the one we have and we hate it. It never gives a consistent reading. Hmmm Kne day it told me DS had a temp of 103 and so I checked again and it was saying 98.5. That’s a huge difference!! He did not have a fever.

Nail: we took pics this weekend and there were a few that I like. She of course isn’t smiling in Any but also isn’t crying
Fail: she’s getting/has a cold. I’m crossing my fingers it doesn’t interrupt her nighttime sleep.
GTKY: she’s young so her level of understanding is super low. I have been pointing to my belly and saying baby so when I say baby to her she lifts my shirt and pokes at my belly. She has no idea what she’s in for though lol
I will return tomorrow to tag Because I am mobile as well
Nails: I think my nails and fails are almost one in the same this week. DS has had a reeeeeeally rough week with tantrums and fighting sleep and I think night terrors. On one hand I think I've been handling it well and maintaining my composure and patience. On the other hand, there were definitely times I had to hand him off to DH and walk away from the situation. It's so hard... I know his brain is just growing so fast and he can't express himself yet so it breaks my heart. He's also become a lot more snuggley lately though so I love that.
Questions: To jump off of the thermometer topic... we haven't found one we love but got a great deal on the Frida baby one. Haven't had a need to use it yet (*knock-on-wood*), so I'm not sure how well it works. Anyone have any experience with that one?
GTKY: I'm pretty sure DS has no idea. Although the other day he smacked my belly and I told him he needed to be gentle because baby sister was in there and he lifted my shirt as if he was looking for her lol! It was the first and only time he's ever done something like that!
@temmetime I've got my thinking hat on now for you guys and something to make his day special! I love what others have suggested about a one-on-one day, or two-on-one day with your DH. Or doing a fun activity at home like decorating cookies, but making it a big deal. Maybe a carpet picnic party with his favorite movie or show and fun treats?
@maureenmce That story about DD's "massive fart" is so funny! I was watching something this morning, a kids show, with DS and they used the word "massive" and I specifically thought about their use of the word "massive" and that it was good vocabulary building lol!
@katy0990 and @AdorkablePixie I’ve had mine about 18 months and never had a problem yet. I’ve heard other people say the forehead ones are not accurate though, so maybe they’re hit or miss? One of these days I’ll get a good ear thermometer so I don’t have to take multiple readings to make sure it’s right.
Nails: Got the exterior of the house painted & love it! Also DD has just started talking in sentences—super win since she has a speech delay!
Fails: Work has been hectic, stressful and I’ve been trying to learn & adjust to new laws & guidelines that make my work more challenging.
Questions: Varicose Veins—mine are getting more prominent and are feeling sore. Is this normal? I’ve never had them until this pregnancy (started about two months ago).
GTKY: How are your other child/children reacting to your pregnancy? DD is very sweet and always says she wants a little sister. She kisses my belly and loves practicing the word “sister”. ❤️
Nails: Potty training is officially a major success! I had been so salty about having to wait as long as we did, way past the point where she was clearly ready, but I suspect it's saved us a lot of hassle. She's had only 3 accidents over the past 48 hours including overnights and naps, and she's been pooping as regularly as ever without a single poop accident the entire time. It was a loooooong effing weekend, though.
Fails: Two nights in a row we haven't gotten her to be on time. She's so miserable when she's overtired.
GTKY: Maggie is completely enamored with "Baby Marion." Essentially, she treats my bump like one of her stuffed animals: sings to it, "reads" to it, tickles it, and regularly informs me what Baby Marion is saying or doing. I hear a lot from her daycare teachers about the Baby Marion stories Maggie tells, too. It'll be very interesting to see how she adapts to having a real little person around to share the attention, though. Especially since she won't necessarily get as much unsupervised Marion access as she thinks she's going to. Guess we'll see!
@AGK2015 yay for potty training success!! Also, omg your daughter is so adorable, she's going to be an awesome big sister.
Re: thermometers...we use an under the arm thermometer that I have from when I was little our friend used their weird forehead one (you hold it like 3 inches away and point it at their forehead) and she got what seemed like normal readings for my son, but when I tried it later I got ridiculously high readings, so I'm apparently not cut out for fancy thermometers. We have an old ear thermometer, just need batteries and the little plastic thingies that cover the sensor, and I've honestly forgotten that until now lol.
Nails:. Nothing too big. I have gone two whole nights in a row within having a bowl of sugary cereal before bed. Thats pretty good for me:)
Fails: I recently got Ds out of our bed and into a pnp next to it and hes been doing pretty well. Except...the last two nights I put him back in bed with me during middle of the night wake up which is sabotaging my whole sleep plan:) I don't even really doing it! I think my subconscious is punishing me for depriving it of cereal!!!
@maureenmce@mrsm224 Target is my 3 year old’s favorite store too! I ask her what she likes about it and she says, “buying all the tings” (she has a slight Barbadian accent from her former nanny).
Nails: I wish I could think of some. It’s been a tough week. I guess my purchase of maternity clothing was a success although I really didn’t want to buy anything for just the next 10 weeks that I will thankfully never wear again. Unfortunately though, I was pregnant in a different season last time and lived in sundresses when I was this big. None of my maternity pants fit, so I needed to get a few pieces. Everything I ordered fit, looked ok, and was relatively inexpensive (motherhood maternity) aside from the two Blanqi items I got.
Fails: daughter/husband calling me as soon as I got to work a few days in a row because she didn’t want to get up and go to school; Elsa Halloween costume arrived and permanently glittered our home in the couple of minutes it took her to try it on; sinus infection, sciatica, stomach issues, difficulty getting around; suicidal aunt necessitating my call to her shrink to ensure she was alive (she is, so I guess that’s a nail? Though having to deal with it while at work and managing our life is insane); forgetting to set my alarm last night, waking up to husband’s and finding him asleep with daughter on her floor where they slept after she woke up from a bad dream and didn’t want to sleep alone or in her bed (he’s much more of a sucker than I am) . . . - Maybe I should have posted all of this in a bitchfest thread?
Questions: Is anyone else stressed out about how they’re going to do holiday shopping/cooking/prep this year while recovering and marathon nursing and chasing around a toddler? I am torn between opting to take a pass and wanting to be a superwoman . . .
GTKY: How are your other child/children reacting to your pregnancy?
Daughter really does seem to get it and is excited about it, which is not to say she won’t want to return her after a few days. Last night she decided she wants to name her baby sister “Aca.”
@nawmin Oof sounds like you had quite a week. I hope it looks up from here. Christmas...I plan on doing my shopping on amazon, and as for cooking and cleaning, lol. No. I won’t be doing that. I have a couple of fake trees because I am a Christmas maniac and I’m putting up the easiest one, throwing some presents underneath and pretty much calling it a day.
@nawmin I’m sorry about the stressful week! For Christmas, I am shopping as I see things (I got DS and H done). I’m decorating early and hoping for the best. I also do not plan on cooking. My H can do that this year.
Re: Christmas, I aim to be done with gifts and wrapping by Dec 1. We’ll put up the tree and decorate after Thanksgiving, and I expect I’ll be able to participate fully then.
We’re hosting Christmas again this year, but with a Dec 27 due date, hell no I’m not cooking dinner. We’ll do some sides at home (mostly not cooked by me), and order the main dinner from a grocery store.
@nawmin we're getting Christmas shopping done over the next few weeks to spread out money spending and not save all shopping for when I'm huge/have a newborn. We also told people we won't be traveling for Christmas. If they want to see us, they need to come to us. We'll probably go to my dads, but he's 5 minutes down the road and we don't usually do a huge meal for 4.5 (toddler) of us. Though I do have a roast I'm thinking of making, super quick and easy and tasty! I say take a pass, don't try to be super woman right from the get-go!
I don’t have any real nails and fails. But I am beginning to get worried about my ability to get through the next 3 months. I felt like everything was going really fast and I felt pretty good. But the last week I am already so uncomfortable and hate how much I’m complaining already.
I wanna get through this and not be a miserable wench.
Me: 36, H: 37 FTM, 2 Furbabies married 03/17/07 lived in Houston, Austin, Los Angeles and NYC due: 2/15/17
@krob I feel you on this! I’m getting uncomfortable and miserable. My husband said to me tonight “you’ve been really cranky the last couple days, is it December yet?”
I also really want one more after this, but I’m starting to doubt my ability to do it all again, and I think I’m complaining so much, there’s no way I’m going to talk DH into impregnating me again, lol.
@nawmin it sounds like you had a rough week! I hope you can relax and rest this weekend. As far as Christmas, I'm not due until it's almost Christmas, so my plan is to have all shopping done by Thanksgiving and all wrapping done during that long weekend. Amazon will be my friend. I am nervous about marathon nursing sessions, recovering and having my kids home from school on winter break for the first 2 weeks!
@krob I'm there too. I was there from the beginning of this....probably partly the reason I'll have a 6.5 year age gap. I remembered how much I just didn't enjoy pregnancy, however, I wanted the baby, so here I am, hoping the next 3 months fly by.

It’s one of the forehead ones. I swipe it across DD’s head a few times and go with the highest temp. I’ve used it on myself and it seems accurate to me. The only ear one I ever got was from Walgreens and it was crap so I’ve stuck with this one.
@Katzalia I also use the forehead thermometer and just take it a few times and see where it’s at.

DS2 due 12/12/18
@rosebud332 That’s the one we have and we hate it. It never gives a consistent reading. Hmmm Kne day it told me DS had a temp of 103 and so I checked again and it was saying 98.5. That’s a huge difference!! He did not have a fever.

9/15/2015: BFP HCG - 400, 9/17/2015: HCG - 827, 9/21/2015 - HCG 3,327!Fail: she’s getting/has a cold.
I will return tomorrow to tag Because I am mobile as well
Questions: To jump off of the thermometer topic... we haven't found one we love but got a great deal on the Frida baby one.

Rainbow baby DS born 9/29/16!!
BFP #3 3/26/18 | Due 12/3/18
Fails: Work has been hectic, stressful and I’ve been trying to learn & adjust to new laws & guidelines that make my work more challenging.
Questions: Varicose Veins—mine are getting more prominent and are feeling sore. Is this normal? I’ve never had them until this pregnancy (started about two months ago).
GTKY: How are your other child/children reacting to your pregnancy? DD is very sweet and always says she wants a little sister. She kisses my belly and loves practicing the word “sister”. ❤️
@Erinka I also have developed some varicose veins in my leg this pregnancy for the first time. I was told that they are due to increased blood flow.
DS2 due 12/12/18
Fails: I recently got Ds out of our bed and into a pnp next to it and hes been doing pretty well. Except...the last two nights I put him back in bed with me during middle of the night wake up which is sabotaging my whole sleep plan:) I don't even really doing it! I think my subconscious is punishing me for depriving it of cereal!!!

9/15/2015: BFP HCG - 400, 9/17/2015: HCG - 827, 9/21/2015 - HCG 3,327!Nails: I wish I could think of some.

I also really want one more after this, but I’m starting to doubt my ability to do it all again, and I think I’m complaining so much, there’s no way I’m going to talk DH into impregnating me again, lol.
@krob I'm there too. I was there from the beginning of this....probably partly the reason I'll have a 6.5 year age gap. I remembered how much I just didn't enjoy pregnancy, however, I wanted the baby, so here I am, hoping the next 3 months fly by.
