Re: Weekly Randoms w/o 9/17

  • I finally gave in and bought a pair of Rothy's after being barraged with ads and sponsored posts about them on instagram for months now. I have to say they do not disappoint. They are SO comfortable! But it's also the first time I've worn flats that actually fit in a long time (I had to buy a full size up from my pre-pregnancy size) so that could have something to do with it.
  • Loading the player...
  • I am utterly exhausted. Taking care of a 1.5 year old and being halfway through a pregnancy is no joke. I'm also wondering if the progesterone is adding to my exhaustion. I saw on the bottle that it "may cause drowsiness." Ha, like I need help with that.

  • @kaf1788 I have a handful of friends of swear by Rothy's... ugh, your post may put me over the edge to buy a pair today.

@kns1988 I am tired just being pregnant, don't know how all you S+TMs are doing it.

DH ended up having an emergency appendectomy this weekend and I am officially over this year. I am so thankful the surgery went well and his recovery hasn't been too bad, and that it happened before baby arrives. It has also put my pregnancy anxiety into high gear. I think I'm doing an alright job hiding it from DH so far, but the list of things I alone will be taking care of between now and November/that need to be put off until November is freaking me TF out. Then I get freaked out about being so anxious and upset while pregnant. The cycle is vicious.

  • @kaf1788 a friend of mine gave me a 20% off link for Rothy's and I LOVE them. I wear the crap out of my flats and they never last me more than a year but I think I'll be able to wear them again next summer. Luckily, I'm a basic black flats kinda gal so I haven't gone down the rabbit hole of 100 different pairs but I love them.

  • @kns1988 I hear you! DS is 5 so luckily he's semi self sufficient but he's got a cold and been up half the night. I'm so tired. Progesterone made me sleepy when I was on it for one of my other pregnancies, I used to sleep like a rock after I took it at night.

  • I live in flats and sandals. I've never heard of Rothys but you all are making me interested. I'm guessing they are pricey?

Has anyone tried tieks? I usually just buy cheap target flats. Like @ladystout08 they don't last very long!
  • @molosmiles they're not cheap but they're definitely worth the investment I think. Also, they got a hold of my hippy heart when I found out they're made from recycled water bottles.

  • What are y'all planning to do for winter outerwear by the time we are super pregnant and/or post-partum?  I live in a cold climate and have a great winter coat, which will likely not fit me come December/Jan.  I hate the thought of buying a whole new winter coat.  I might check Old Navy or somewhere similar for sales and buy one of the larger plus size coats, or a large sized mens coat.  Or I know there do exist zipper expander contraptions to use with your current wardrobe.  I am a bit skeeved out buying second-hand clothes and since I am large to begin with, I am not optimistic I'd even find anything.

My wife and I have conceived a babe with my body and frozen donor sperm through IUI, with medication support (clomid, ovidrel, and injections of progesterone)

    IUI #1, #2, and #3: Dec 2017, Jan 2018, and Feb 2018 - all BFN
HSG Test: April 2018 - all clear!

  • @rooonilwaazlib honestly I'll probably just layer. I live in the north but I rarely wear a coat since I'm normally just going from the car to the office or car to the house, etc. I'll probably just wear long sleeves and a tunic/sweater and I'll just wear my coat unzipped if I have to. I have a carhartt though that runs fairly large. I'm running so dang hot during this pregnancy that I can't imagine wearing a coat anyway lol. My concern is shoes. I live in my Uggs during the winter months normally or my leather boots but I won't be able to zip my leather ones and I think my feet will be too big for my Uggs, plus not sure I can bend over to pull them on.

@molosmiles I LOVE my Tieks! I have a few pairs in bright colors, and wear them almost every day. They are SO comfortable. I have had some trouble with them lately though, as my feet have been so swollen. I mostly own patents, which don't have as much give to them. If you're dealing with swelling also,  I'd recommend either buying the classics (which are a little softer) or waiting until after pregnancy.

ETA: Before getting hooked on Tieks, I mostly bought cheap flats also.  I'm fairly tough on my shoes, and the cheap flats would generally wear out within 6 months. I bought my first pair of Tieks last November, and other than a few minor scuffs on the heels they're still in great shape.

  • I always see ads for Tieks but everything I see seems like such forced reviews and I’ve never known anyone who actually owns them to ask if they’re worth it. @AshVA maybe you have convinced me!

@rooonilwaazlib I bought a winter coat from Gap early on when it was summer and the winter stuff was all on sale. Since I metro/walk every day and the station is outside I was worried I would need it. If what everyone says about how hot you feel later in pregnancy part of me wonders if I will even need it. We’ll see!
  • @Kabazaba wow, an emergency appendectomy sounds so stressful. I'm glad your husband is okay, and I hope that you can find help with the stuff that you have to get done.

@rooonilwaazlib this is my second time being pregnant in the winter, and I just plan to either wear my regular coat without being able to zip it or steal one of DH's coats. He's larger than me, but we're the same height.

@rooonilwaazlib I'm sure it's different for everybody but all my friends who had winter due dates (in New England) said they were running so hot they never ended up needing a winter coat so you may be fine with just a bigger sweatshirt or layers. You could also always put one on your registry! I'm considering investing in the parka from Seraphine that's meant for maternity and babywearing.  I won't have a car during maternity leave and the sidewalks in Boston can be impossible to navigate in the winter regularly, much less with a stroller so I'll be babywearing pretty much anytime I leave the house. Even if I don't really need it during pregnancy I think it will be worth it!
  • Oh man, now I have to look up Rothy's and see what all the fuss is about. I live in flats!
@kns1988 my DD is 1.5 years old and many days it's totally exhausting. I can muster up enough energy to make it to bedtime, then I just crash. Thankfully DH is similar and we crash on the couch watching our shows on Netflix.

Having a cold while pregnant and taking care of a toddler is NOT fun, but thankfully DD let me sleep in until 8:30am! HALLELUJAH! My first client isn't until 10:45, so this is fabulous. DD has been waking up around 630, rather than 730-8, so this is a treat.

  • @rooonilwaazlib In my search for second hand baby gear, I have come across SO MANY ads for BNWT maternity coats that never got worn so maybe that's a cheaper option that won't bother you too much if you know it's new? Personally, second hand clothes don't bother me at all so I'll probably just buy one off a buy and sell if I find I need one. With DS I just layered under my regular winter coat and left the zipper open, but I was mainly just going from home to office and he was born in November so not too bitterly cold yet.

  • @rooonilwaazlib what everyone else said! I'm already running so hot that I just plan on using what I have and staying unzipped. If it gets really cold, I'll just steal some of SO's jackets and hope they zip up lol. But even not pregnant, if I'm layered w/scarf and hat it's usually too hot to fully zip.
  • @rooonilwaazlib I plan on just wearing one of my dh's old winter coats.
  • @Kabazaba I’m glad your DH is ok. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

I put up my fall decorations yesterday now that it’s starting to feel like fall. Until it gets back up in the 90’s for a couple of days later this week. I wore leggings to church yesterday and it was amazing!

  • @kianarain I hope it flies by!! I just had the realization that I don't have another day off from work until Thanksgiving and I'm worried time is just going to dragggg.
  • @kianarain I was thinking the same thing this weekend. I started to look at the calendar this weekend, and between family visiting, our baby moon, birth/baby classes at the hospital, and holidays, we have very few free weekends left!  I’m torn because there’s a lot of things that I know are on my to do list - shopping, decorating, little kits for diaper changing and after birth care, things like that to do, but it still feels like it’s too early. I just know all of a sudden it’s going to be too late!
  • Re winter coats: I hope I can get by with layering and wearing my coat unzipped (or using DH's). I will keep my eye out for a winter coat at consignment stores and sales but I can't justify spending a small fortune on something I would wear for 1-2 months. Plus I live in NC so it's cold, but not as cold as some of y'all.

  • @mrsmang oh lawd, I haven't even signed up for birth/baby classes yet. Definitely +1 on feeling like it's too early for some things, but if we wait any more it might be too late! Bah timing/organization is going to get the best of me.
  • @mrsmang talk to me about "after birth care" kits. Like for you or the baby? I feel like postpartum me will be so thankful if present-day me could get it together enough to put together a care kit for myself. What are you thinking about getting?
  • Not @mrsmang but @KLS123 I do post partum kits for my friends as shower gifts.

I usually add some variation of the following:
    -water bottle
-snacks (usually granola bars, protein bites, etc.)
    -dermoplast (alcohol free kind!)
    -tuck pads
    -stool softener
    -coconut oil
    -nursing pads
    -overnight pads
    -wine/booze of choice
    -infant tylenol
    -gas drops
    -a nose frieda
-cloth diaper inserts (they make awesome burp cloths)

Basically the little things you may not think about but want nearby not tucked away in the nursery or your room.

  • Now y’all got me interested in Rothy’s. I see their ads everywhere (IG, FB). I really just told DH I want those really comfy Ugg slippers (doesn’t need to be Uggs) for my go to shoes Fall-Winter, lol. My feet are starting to swell.

I am more than excited to think that the next 4 months will fly by w all these holidays!!! At the same time, we also are running out of time to think about baby’s nursery and NAMES. Ahhh. I downloaded an app that I’ll make DH download also. We’ll swipe names that we like or don’t like and get matched. I’m sick of me questioning 100 names for him to say no everytime.

    Happy Monday, ladies!
  • @kianarain yes! I've told DH several times, once Halloween hits it'll FLY BY! It's always like that...once the holidays begin it's one after another and it goes by so fast. I've always felt all of Oct, Nov, Dec just go by so fast. This makes me excited AND nervous all at once.

    Re: Coat
I've heard from others that you don't really need a coat because you run hot..but I live in Minnesota, and I needed a coat. I just used my chunkier winter coat and didn't ever zip it. It has a tie at the waist, so I just used that. Fortunately, I know it'll work. Unfortunately, it's been my fav coat the last 3 winters and it's probably near it's last winter. If you do look for a maternity one, look for the ones that can be used for baby wearing, too, so you're not buying a coat with just one purpse.

  • My anxiety went into overdrive this weekend and I almost had a panic attack.  Tomorrow I'll be 25 wks which means only 4 wks left before I get to the point where my water broke with DS#1.  There are also 4 wks left until my shower and aside from a few things here and there, we have done NOTHING for this baby.  We have been so caught up with school and sports for DS#1 and time is just rolling by.  I made DH pull some stuff out of the attic today so I can wash the toys that we kept, wash some clothes and at least figure out what we have/need/can get rid of.  I'm hoping doing this will help talk me down off the ledge I was on yesterday!

  • @sweetyjenj I vote YES! Can never prep too early.

@bradleysmommy28 ugh +1 to the anxiety. I had a bad wave hit me yesterday that resulted in some minor hyperventilating while crying, but not necessarily related to baby. Literally came out of nowhere. No matter the cause, it's scary & helpless & consuming. I hope you can get some relief by going into prep mode!
  • Adding another item to the list of things Instagram made me buy:
    The Shhhower Cap. https://www.shhhowercap.com/

I only wash my hair 2x a week, but like to shower daily. If you ladies use a shower cap, and need a new one, I HIGHLY recommend this. I've had mine for over a year and it's still like new. Other shower caps always got gross after that much use, so it's really worth the extra money. I can't sing the product's praises enough.
  • @ladystout08 @KLS123 that’s about what I was thinking - definitely a kit for me. I’ve had friends mention things and seen a ton of lists on Pinterest. I haven’t actually started a real list of what I wanted to include, but I know I want one. I’ve never had a baby so I would only be going off recommendations from others.

We should definitely start a thread at some point, but I think we are probably safe to wait a little longer?  I don’t feel strongly either way.

  • @sweetyjenj when I was reading about the winter coats...I had the same thought as you, we live in Minnesota, we NEED coats! ha!  I had DD1 in April and got by with the regular winter coat.  I think it's a little big in the waist and my bump then wasn't too big, so it worked.  I'll probably make that work again or get the extender thing.  I'm guessing I will be able to find a used one, because tundra.

I would't go too crazy about postpartum stuff yet.  It's nice to have stuff on hand but some stuff may vary depending on your needs and delivery.  I ordered stuff off Amazon last minute and had DH run to Target to buy pads for me...I never needed the ice pack things but some people swear by them.  You can always send a family member or friend out to get what you need if there's something you forgot.
